Dancing with the Stars Season 21, Week 4 – LIVE BLOG
Nice to be home alone to watch a show this season!! Looking forward to what kinda crap they will let fly tonight. And, also, sending all my best wishes and prayers to Tom Bergeron and his family.
T-minus 15 minutes!!
Great concept, but man, if anyone else had made that large of an error?? Wow. What did they do to Nick with his Jive? Curious to see the scores.
Okay, those scores are about right. Now…what happens with everyone else and is she in danger for next week?
Okay, I watched what Erin said three times about elimination and I still didn’t get her. WTF??
Gary makes me smile. That is all.
Tamar looks gorgeous!! Dance was pretty good, but she still gets that blank look on her face.
CAI always strikes me as so fake when she pulls that crying BS. Talk about not connecting.
Has there been someone who hasn’t done a rumba by the rules this season, Bruno??
That was a serious question – I don’t remember there being one. 🙂
Hayes – is a contender. He’s really rather astonishing when you think about it, because he’s a 15 year old kid. All this stuff is supposed to be icky and gross. Isn’t it?
That was also a serious question. I don’t remember 15. 🙂
Alek’s package made me cry for not the first time tonight. The Paso was okay – my only question is that if it is due to the lack of rehearsal, or if Latin isn’t going to be his forte.
What’s with the empty chairs?? Did I miss something important?? Oh….I get it now.
NIck slayed that, as expected….but I was just a bit underwhelmed. Hope the BSB fans are voting like crazy because that may not stand up against some of the other stories.
Very good dance from Carlos (but with a lift which probably won’t get called). VERY interesting strategy from Witney making that a Waltz instead of a contemporary. Or did they already do contemporary??
Thanks for not disappointing me, CAI. Not only did you not call the lift but you straight up said you don’t care about Carlos’ arms. :::rolls eyes:::
LIFT COUNT = 3; Number of Lifts CAI has called – ZERO. (Paula, Tamar and Carlos)
Get your mammograms, ladies. God, losing your mother that quickly to breast cancer? :::cry:::
Pretty good cha cha for Andy – still throwing those arms away…
Railroading Andy, IMO, CAI. Geez, you let a lot of crap slide tonight, but you can’t let Andy get away with anything at all.
Bindi has been emotional since the show started, judging by All Access. Pull it together girl, but not too much.
Wow…beautiful package, beautiful dance. Wow. Once again, a partner of Derek’s gets the first 10 of the season.
And the eliminated person was….Gary. Boo. And he stole the entire show, as usual. FINALLY at the end of the show Alfonso makes it clear how the elimination was structured – Option number 2 of my Dancing by the Numbers Post.
Hoping DWTS will be on. I live in SC where all the horrendous flooding has occurred , so I’m expecting the news to be on with updates. Also sending prayers to Tom’s family, as he will be missed tonight, but I’m sure Alfonso will do great.
I loved the opening and with Alfonso there the show is in good hands 🙂 . Alexa’s video package was great and I love he she wasn’t afraid to say that Alfonso’s comment didn’t sit well with her and came back with a really fun foxtrot. In not sure if that was the band or the shirelles version though….either way I loved that version. The costumes and whole stage setup was great. The umbrella bothered me a little becuase i am slightly superstitious. The scores were pretty much what I expected though.
Sideboard: I think Erin looks great tonight. Whoever styling her is doing a great job this season thus far.
I was so pulling for her. Seemed like a bit of friction between she and Alfonzo. He could have said what he did better last week. Oh man I caught myself. I am talking about Alexa.
Good to see Alek able to compartmentalize. Can’t be easy.
Technique issues aside I liked Alexa’s dance.
Just the little snippet of Bindi and Derek had me tearing up.
I liked Alexa and Mark’s dance, I’m curious to see if she’s in jeapardy next week.
Seeing Bindi’s bits & pieces, I’m already getting geared up.
Too much messing around at beginning of Alexa’s Foxtrot. It was a great concept too bad she messed up :/
pls dont make alfonso happen… i dont like to see him as a regular on the show. idk what it is butabout him but it’s just too much. And nowseeing him as a replacment for tom makes me fell uncomfortable in a way to not watch this episode anymore.
P.S.: sry for my english … ♥♥♥ your page
Gary, sorry bud but you gots to go. That was horrible.
Gary’s jazz was really bad. Not even sure if that is dancing. He was just waving his arms randomly around the whole time. Having said that, it was entertaining to watch.
I am with you guys tearing up over Bindi already. I was 10 when my dad died, but I can only imagine the pressure, sadness, and desire to do her dad proud. #HeavenIsWatching
And then there is Gary. I loved the song…a wee bit slow, but he really gives it all he has, it just isn’t quite enough. He is so fun to watch though.
Gary is just beyond inspiring. He had that accident and still is out there acting and everything and just gives whatever it is his all so for that I have to say this: bravo Gary busey. Now the dance was one I had a lot of hopes for and it was my favortoes from him thus far becuase he just was so into the character that he really seems to love. Saying that, carrie Ann was right when she said her critique and I really want him to improve so much and he has since week one but not at the same rate as the others and as much as I like him I have to wonder how long he can stick around with these scores (I know cloris lasted long back In her season so it’s definately doable but I don’t remember her getting as many 5s).
I love Gary’s attitude. He just has a great attitude. Will be interesting if tonight is his last dance. I do think Anna has been amazing with him.
Hit submit too quickly it looks like lol. Sorry for the autocorrect I meant favorite. This phone has a mind of its own.
Tamar is a great dance but for some reason, I could not connect to her. The rumba wasn’t very good either (not much hip movement), but it will probably receive a very high score.
I think it’s really funny that they keep playing Alfonso’s comments during the packages, like he was the only judge with constructive or interesting commentary haha! Gary and Anna’s dance seemed like more of a mess than usual..
CAI quit yer blubbbering? No call out for that lift?? I still don’t see a connection between Tamar & Val
Bruno and the Elton john video lol tom must have gotten a good laugh out of that 🙂 . Ok so Tamar’s video was a good one but seeing Val say that his motivation is to “see people happy” made me laugh considering how rumor didn’t look happy half of the time last season lol but I like this new Val so I’m letting it slide. Tamar and her husband look like they are the real deal Hollywood marriage and not one of those that last like 5 years and done for a dumb reason so I like her even more. The song was nice and I couldn’t tell if that was her version with her singing or the band. Gotta be honest and say that I loved the second half from the move where he dragged her into the middle of the dance floor (don’t know the technical term there) but the first part was a perfect buildup to an emotional ending so I really liked her this week. Costume was amazing too and she looked gorgeous. Purple/lilac is good on her. Oh and Alfonso calling out Julianne about the not putting the score yet made me 🙂 .
Was that Sasha dressed as Bruno? Too funny. I must say Anna look great loved the color.
I understand how dramatic the back story for Tamar’s dance was but that was not a great rumba imo. Kind of boring. Still don’t see the connection with this partnership but can really see how she loves her husband.
I’m waiting for the day that the judges point out Tamar’s eternally bent knees. Her legs do not look good and it’s been a consistent issue. She is by no means a bad dancer, but I think 9’s are too high for that dance.
Tamar and Val’s dance was beautiful, but their partnership seems very cold. She can dance but without a connection I can see them leaving early.
If that Rumba deserves 9’s, there better be some 10’s headed our way. Cause their rumba was ok but not deserving of a 36. IMO.
Pretty sure Tamar had a slight lift in there. Will Carrie Ann call it? It wasn’t in the straight line drag (I know wonderful dance language right) but rather in the circle thing. I looked at it three times and it comes near the end. And of course Carrie Ann said nothing. Wow 27 thought they might go higher.
Tamar’s story was heart felt. Authentic. It is great to see that side from her and she looked gorgeous. The dance? It was okay but certainly not worthy of three 9’s IMO.
Twitch and Allison are going to have a baby 🙂 🙂 🙂 yay!
Yay! Babies,, congrats Allison!!!
Congrats Allson! Sorry if this comes out rude, but I hope this means she’s out for season 22.
I actually really liked Tamar’s dance. I thought it was beautiful. Not sure it was worth all 9’s but.. oh well.
Alexa was good but it went south hard at the end…
HOLY!! Allison is pregnant! So happy for her and Twitch 🙂
I knew it!!!! I was just thinking a couple of days ago that allison looked pregnant!
I can’t believe they gave Tamar and Val a 27 for that dance. Extremely overscored! Anyway, congratulation to Allison and Twitch!
Whoops I meant 27 not 36. Still adding in the guest judge.
Kelly, I am so very glad you saw that lift. Another inconsistency of Carrie Ann.
Hayes’ video was great and the less I see Nash on the screen the better lol. He sorta has a confident shyness that I have so i kinda relate to him about growing into it. Emma nailed the choreography on this one and he killed it out there. Didn’t realize how blinded out the collar of his shirt was h till he was standing next to Emma during critique lol. I love how surprised the judges were but I sorta expected him to do well since he just throws everything he has into the dances week to week so I really liked it.
Tamar & Val had a lift last week, now this week. Hmm Val breaks the rules, Val breaks the rules.
Hayes & Emma looked awesome. Loved their dance. Love Hayes reactions.
Congrats to Allison, although my first thought is hoping she won’t be a pro next season…
Loved that dance from Hayes/Emma. I definitely think they’re contenders, and is probably one of my favorite dances of the season.
Great routine from Hayes & Emma!! Emma’s the bomb!!
Every time I see Nash I’m just thankful we got Hayes instead of him on the show 🙂
Hayes just killed it. That was SO amazing. I also really loved Emma’s choreography. Wish we could see her do Conremporary more often.
Kudos to Emma and Hayes. Fun and suited him perfectly.
I think Hayes is fabulous. What a mature young man he is. Emma is doing a fabulous job with him. I think, I hope he lasts for awhile.
Probably an inappropriate comment coming up, but what the heck!?!
Derek and Alek seem to be filling out their britches very well…
Hayes is very good tonight. Alex paso looked a little awkward. He seems more suited for ballroom dances.
Alek handles this week better than most people and I loved this paso. When I think of paso doble I think of tough face quick feet and inner strength and that came across I. That dance in my opinion. Saying that I really liked it. The cutaway to nick standing there with that group was funny becuase I was looking for the ther bsb members and then I see Joey fatone out of all people lol.
@PH….when I was 15, I got my 1st kiss & had my 1st boyfriend, so for me, the opposite sex wasn’t gross. I spent my days hangin with friends & studying because my grades were very important to me.
That was a decent Paso but Alek seemed a bit zoned out to me. Understandable given the events of last week.
I honestly don’t know how Alek does it… He just killed that Paso. After all he went through last week, to come out and do a damn good job? Hats off to him. I’m amazed by him every week..
That was such a spectacular dance by Hayes. The look on Emma’s face when she saw those scores was priceless. He is a dark horse for sure.
I felt so bad for Alek. You could see the military training in him. He was holding back his emotions. It is too bad he couldn’t let go, but right now I am sure he is using every tool he has just too cope.
Killer routine from Nick!!! Loved it!!! Great job Sharna!
love the idea of the fans on the dance floor. Nicks video made me feel old because I remeber watching the bsb and worshipping them practically lol. Didn’t know that he such a rough childhood but I’m glad he came through it like he did. Sharna’a reaction to aj was priceless. The dance itself was everything and more than what I expected. Sharna and jazz go together like peanut butter and jelly 🙂 is it too early to call her the dwts queen of jazz becuase that’s how I view her lol. Joey fatone in the crowd was funny.
Okay, I have to confess. I really like Nick and Sharna jazz. My favorite of the night so far!
I loved Nick and Sharna!! Holy crap that was incredible. Sharna’s choreography was amazing too!!!
Ok sorry but Nick was highly underscored! Deserved at least 1 ten.
Nick and Sharna were great. Oh the memories of the Back Street Boys. I was surprised I knew every single word. I just think this dance was so much better than say Val and Tamar. Oh well.
“I want to be part of the backstreet boys too while I’m trying to take everybody’s job” – Alfonso’s sense of humor is amazing lol. I was worried without Tom there would be no funny lines but Thank goodness I was wrong.
LOVED Nick and Sharna. Rather surprised they weren’t closing it, but that was great, and I think it deserved at least 1 ten
I’m a quivering pile of goo after Nick and Sharna’s dance. What a fantastic moment! Nice to see A.J. again. He was always my favorite BSB.
I loved that dance!!!!! But they kept the entire same moves in the chorus. My favourite so far 🙂
knowing what happend this week, I just can’t describe how proud I am of alek and lindsay. this must have been a super rough week for him and you could see it and only feel for him….
thoughts & prayers to all the victims&families of th UCC shooting from Germany
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
Wow, Carlos and Witney were fantastic. They looked majestic and the dance was beyond beautiful. Carlos and Nick are my favs so far tonight!!
Carrie Ann is such an inconsistent judges. So now she only cares about performance and not about techniques. I like Carlos, but there was a little stumble at the end.
I gotta be honest and say that seeing Keo with Hayley and the other troupe members made me think “he is better in group dances but not with celebrities. Such a shame” so I kinda feel bad saying that. Carlos video was nice but not great. Liked how he said that his life changed within a week though becuase I’m a firm believer in fate acting in strange ways and boy does that prove it. Anyways the dance was good but at the end of the night I doubt i will remember it. He is giving it his all and is improving but something still isn’t adding up for me yet. I wish I could pinpoint it but the only way I can describe it is like this: this was the first week where i didn’t feel like he was putting on a fake face so I liked that but it’s still like there is a wall there
I loved Carlos & Witneys dance… He’ll make it further than Alexa!
That was such a beautiful dance by Carlos and Witney. She did a phenomenal job choreographing that. I loved the simplicity of the music and Carlos was so into what he was doing. You could tell he felt every single bit of that dance. Those scores were about right.
On another note, Alfonzo is on my last nerve. His tone is just condescending.
Not to mention not calling the lift, Kaitlynn.
I actually liked Val and Tamar better than Nick and Sharna.
@princess Heidi: I’m 24 and barely remember being 15 other than the bullies and my odd nature of just ignoring them and throwing myself into school. Oh and my obsession with reality TV lol.
FOR BOYS it was gross and icky, KellyK. For boys. I don’t know many girls who felt that way.
Jillo, I not only don’t find that inappropriate, I find it to be very accurate. 😀
This is probably the first week this season I’ve actually looked forward to multiple dances. Not sure if it’s because of the theme/stories or the celebs are just starting to grow on me.
Hayes is slowly becoming my favorite though. First week I thought he was a punk and I wouldn’t like him at all (especially because his brother is a major jackass) but week after week he’s seemed so humble and grateful to Emma and he’s a good dancer! He’s a 15 year old kid with no dance experience at all. This isn’t a Zendaya or Cody situation. I really really hope he makes it far…I also just love Emma.
When did Tamar get above critique? Do the judges ever give her any criticism? She’s a good dancer and I like her but it bothers me they never seem to critique any of Val’s partners. I still saw no connection and a blank face.
BACKSTREET BOYS FOREVER! (even though I’m truly an *NSYNC girl)
What’s up w/the empty chairs behind the judges?
Paula and Gary really need to go home. Both dances were really bad on many different levels.
Really blatant lift in Paula’s dance – again, not a word. That’s Paula, Tamar and Carlos. Three in one night.
Carrie Ann toured with Madonna?! That’s an image for ya lol. Ok so Paula really makes me smile because she gets the 5s and says “I can do better than that! Time to improve my scores no matter what” 🙂 . That dance was my favorite from her thus far and she was having the time of her life out there. louis really really has wowed me this season. Anyone else have a flashback to Susan lucci and when the judges had her say something out loud like that after what I think was her paso? Lol.
Poor Paula, she just had that one big goof up. Oh oh the judges are being awfully nice to her, I think she must be out tonight. I would just like to see here get through one whole dance where she does really well. I hope she gets better scores. Well 18 was better.
Seems like the lift police didn’t like being called out for her comments last week to Carlos so gave them a pass on the lift. It’s not the first time she’s done it to save face or make atonement.
The judges have been so 9 happy but I have a feeling 10’s are coming up with the last dance of the night.
I don’t like the couples all gathered together backstage in the makeup room or whatever it is. Looks cheap.
Maybe due to the nature of this week’s theme CAI has chosen to not call lifts for everyone.
Allison is making me hate myself right about now. I’m 34 weeks pregnant…no way I could have done that early in my pregnancy! I felt so nauseous all the time…I thought I was doing well to go for a walk 3 days a week! Kudos to Allison for staying fit during her pregnancy!
Allison is not choreographing to her partners abilities. It is unfortunate but I doubt she will have to worry about dancing six months pregnant.
I liked this dance until after the side by side with Allison. Then he seemed to quit moving. I couldn’t get that. I thought his scores were fair. I keep waiting for him to break out. Ummm did Alfonzo let slip who isn’t eliminated tonight. If Louie is dancing with Tamar then Paula isn’t eliminated. Why would they pick that to say?
I’ve tweeted CAI TWICE regarding her not calling out the lifts..we’ll see if I get blocked. Lol
I have a 15 yr old niece who’s tomboyish & she would find all of it icky/gross, so it’s not just 15 yr old boys 🙂
I can relate to Andy right now becuase my mother beat breast cancer when I was a sophomore in high school and I remember just feeling like nothing made sense whatsoever. Anyways the dance wasn’t bad but didnt deserve to be raked over the coals like that.
Bindi just turned an entire room of adults into blubbering messes. I’m guessing we aren’t the only ones. I will always remember watching that show and going “Steve Irwin is a awesome person and I want a pet crocodile.” (My parents told me no every time I asked but there was always a part of me hoping they would say yes…..they didn’t lol). Bindi killed that dance. Steve would be jumping up and down right now and beyond thrilled to see her dance if he was alive but I know he must be doing that in heaven right now and doing backflips knowing that he did a great job raising her and knowing what she has done to continue his legacy.
That was beautiful. She is so special and the love between she and her dad was so special. What a beautiful dance. It certainly took my breath away and was so indicative of how I feel many times when I think of my dad and how I wish he was here with me. Good for Bruno. That dance was far and above any other dance tonight. That choreography was so inspiring. That will be a dance for the ages.
Wow. The amazing choreography and the amazing Bindi. What a completely phenomenal dance
Completely unsurprised about Gary going home. They could have at least put Paula in the bottom 2 to make us guess because it could have gone either way for me then lol
I had my mammon2 weeks ago 😉
Bindi & Derek had the best dance..shoulda been 10’s across the board IMHO!
I love Gary busey lol. “The fact we have been eliminated is false” lol. This man never ceases to amaze me. Plus it was nice to see “from Russia with love” back 🙂
The only comfort I take in Paula staying will be seeing her stuck with Val for switch up. I literally have to mute her now.
I’m usually not crazy about contemporary but that was out of this world. Really amazing.
Still recovering from Bindi’s package. I have always adored Steve and he would be beyond proud of the person she has become. The package and the dance were both amazing!
That’s very convenient for her, Sandy. She had no problem being a bitch to Andy, though.
Bindi and Derek’s contemporary was truly stunning and beautiful. I think it tops Mark and Sadie’s contemporary from a year ago, and I LOVED Mark and Sadie’s contemp.
She had me in tears. I have loved Steve since I was a little girl and his passion for wildfire inspired me so deeply. When he died, it broke my heart. It’s so clear how much of him lives inside of his daughter, though. Carrie Ann and Derek are right. She truly is a bright light.
Side note- note a fan of Tamar, but her dance was great!
Derek is amazing! that dance was beautiful! Deserved all 10’s. Sorry for the one line…. No more words…. Speechless.
I must be an old fuddy duddy. But I don’t like pregnancy announcements, marriage proposals or any of that stuff during a show.
@KellyK – In my opinion, week 4 is too early for any couple to get 3 10’s across the board. There still plenty of time to show dancing growth.
Hmm.. I wonder if Carlos is in trouble. I don’t think Carlos or Alexa are bringing in the votes.
I wonder who Bindi will be switched with? I’m betting she’ll be partnered with Mark, which makes me really excited, because I LOVE Mark. Perhaps there’s a chance she could get Val?
And I’ll disagree w/you Sandy. It’s been done before…S19 Wk 3.. Both Bethany/Derek & Janel/Val got perfect 30’s.
posting before reading everyone else’s comments can’t wait…well, firstly I thought that alexa and mark’s dance was decent, but kind of forgettable after going first. I feel like she has a lot of potential, and mark is a great choreographer, but i don’t know, I always feel like something is missing between their partnership/connection that keeps them from getting to a whole new level.
Hayes always surprises me and does way better than I expect! I love seeing emma be happy from getting good scores for once!!! 😀 I feel like contemporary was a great dance style for him, and I felt like he really shone! He didn’t really seem gawky at all, and I think emma choreographed it very well and displayed his strengths.
i feel like alek just wasn’t in the performance. usually there is a joy and a full immersion when he dances, but that was missing this week. i really think he is an absolutely stand up guy,and has the best technique of any guy in the competition thus far. his comment of “i haven’t really been through much at all this week compared to the roseberg families” really demonstrated what an amazing guy he is. whoever he marries will be a lucky gal. I also think the tempo/speed of the song was kind of off for a paso. I feel confident though that once he is more settled emotionally with everything in roseberg, he will be back at the top of the pack. He really truly does have the talent for it, and I really want to see him go far, he deserves it.
I always feel like the judges needlessly rag on andy and its so unnecessary. I thought this was andy’s best dance, and LOVE his personality, he seems like a really great guy through and through. that picture of him at his moms funeral made me cry, the look in his eyes was beautiful and heart-wrenching.
I LOVED witney and carlos’ dance! I REALLY felt like they were dancing with their souls, and they really did look like angels dancing in heaven, and just the music made it all SO beautiful. It was gorgeous to me. I did notice when he made mistakes, etc., but probably for the first time ever lol I agreed with carrie ann in thinking that he did fantastic because he danced with pure soul.
Nick and sharna’s dance was so enjoyable! Possibly underscored?! Was there anything wrong with it? I found erin’s banter while interviewing nick and sharna kind of awkward though. And I loved especially the ending of the routine, sharna did a fantstic job with the choreography, and nick truly was in his element, and I feel like he really let loose and owned this performance.
I actually thought this was paula’s best dance! I thought the precision with her footwork was decent often. But I do hope that she gets eliminated next because she seems like the worst dancer now that gary is eliminated.
I actually thought that tamar and val were overscored, although I did like that val’s rumba had a lot of classic content/choreography. Tamar also looked absolutely BEAUTIFUL, and she finally opened up emotionally in her dance which made a huge difference! But I definitely thought it was way overscored.
I also was confused as to why bindi and derek did not get all tens?! Was there anything wrong with it?! The choreography was perfection, bindi’s execution of the choreography was beautiful, it was just stellar in every possible way, from the nuanced moments to the lifts, etc. I also cried quite a bit. Just don’t understand what is up with the judges and I seriously want some new ones.
Also very happy for allison and witney! so much happy news! 😀 i noticed too that gary although he is eccentric, he does make good points at times! it was funny him shushing alfonso, btw alfonso seemed like really nervous the whole netire night, which is understandable though, tom left some big shoes to fill.
I can’t get over Alison being pregnant. And if we make the finals she will be 6 months?! I was amazed. I hope she is taking care of herself.
Loved Nick & Sharna but I didn’t see jazz. I saw freestyle. But I loved it
I loved Carlos talking about his faith. It was great to hear his testimony. Still, I am amazed though that the judges weren’t tougher. That was more contemporary to me than waltz. But beautiful & stunning.
Bindi & Derek-tears. I’m still sniffling.
Alex-i can’t imagine what life is like for him right now. With the months he has had and this past week. I couldnt tell what was going on inside him. He was very wooden to me & I didn’t really like the dance but with the week he had I am amazed he could do it. And I think the song wasn’t good for paso. Not intense enough. Very proud of him & Lindsay. I really hope he can do Latin!!!!!!
I think next week it may be Paula but I think Alexa isn’t far behind. Her package wasn’t flattering IMO.
Does anyone know what was up with the Sasha & Brit bumper. Did she slip or did he drop her?
I’ve been lurking the past few weeks, and so enjoying reading everyone’s comments, but just felt I had to comment on tonight’s episode. That dance from Bindi and Derek was just stunning. The last routine I remember seeing that moved me as much as this one did was Amy and Derek’s freestyle in S18. Those moments were not about a competition, that was a young girl mourning her father, taken away when she was so very young, and blossoming even more into a strong, amazing, inspiring young woman, truly living each moment. That being said, if the judges are just scoring on the dance, not looking at the package, that dance still deserved at least one more 10, and in my mind, three 10’s. Despite it only being week four, I’m just not seeing what that piece was missing and if we completely took away the emotion from the package, it would still be a stunning routine, danced so beautifully by Bindi. This young lady has so much strength; I lost my mom ten years ago while in my 20’s and I don’t know that I could have held it together the way she did. Bravo to Derek for absolutely poignant and brilliant choreography and to Bindi for her bravery and vulnerability and grace.
The other highlight for me, on the complete opposite end of the emotional spectrum, was Nick and Sharna. I was just fan-girling the entire time and loved every moment. So much fun!
Endlessly frustrated by the inconsistency in judging and in moments wondering if the judges were even watching the same dance. The strongest example of that for me tonight was Tamar and Val. She did look beautiful and performed the choreography very well but as others have mentioned, her eyes were just blank and I saw no connection with Val. How the three judges could give such OTT praise for their connection just baffles me.
Would have loved to see Anna dance with Nick or Carlos next week, only reason I’m sad to see Gary go.
Really hope people are getting behind Carlos feel the votes would be split between him/Nick and Hayes
@KellyK I don’t think Sandy’s saying it’s impossible for perfect scores to happen so early just that she doesn’t agree with them needing to be out so early.
Halfway through Bindi and Derek’s dance, my wife said to me that he was being her father in the dance every step of the way. Absolutely brilliant choreography by Derek and stellar performances by both of them.
Two weeks from now that exact same dance would get three 10’s without a question.
Well I’m not the only poster here who thought Bindi & Derek deserved a perfect 30 tonight. If the dance is great, why NOT give it a perfect score. It was far better than Tamar & Val, who again did not get called out for a lift. CAI called Nicole & Derek out in S10 for a lift in a Rumba & again with Shawn &’Derek in S15! Her inconsistency is maddening
Julianne straight up said during MOVE that even though a dance was beautiful and spectacular and amazing, she couldn’t give a 10 so early in the season. I think that is their new “thing”. I’m fine with that, but saying that Bindi’s dance was only one point better than some of the others is a bit ridiculous.
Votes…I think that Alexa, Andy and Carlos are not getting votes. I think the votes are all going to Nick, Bindi, Alek and Hayes….everyone else is fighting to stay in the comp. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Tamar in jeopardy next. They’re trying to stimulate voting for those couples. I just think a season can’t take so many good dancers and great stories – if you aren’t making an impact every week, you are in danger.
Tony/Sandy – I think that is exactly the problem with judging on this show. Instead of going with what they think/feel, they act with regard to something other than the dancing. And they always have, it’s just different now. Before, they were “kind” and scored based on individual growth, never going lower than a 6. NOW, they’ve come to the (correct) conclusion that if they never go lower than 6’s, someone like Paula is going to be very close on the leaderboard to someone like Nick or Bindi BUT they’ve also decided that they can’t hand out 10’s so early even if the dance is worth it. Both ways consist of judging on something other than the quality of the dance. Both pretty much suck.
But it’s a reality show, not a dance competition.
Exactly, Lee – and that is pretty stupid. Time is dictating the score instead of the dance itself.
I’m not complaining about her only getting one 10. That’s not a big deal this early on. But hedging your scores based on what week it is is just as FALSE as giving all the freestyles perfect scores late in the season.
Ditto Kelly. It was a 30 for me too for Derek and Bindi!!
3 lifts tonight Carrie Ann; is there something special about tonight?? Funny how you seem to pick and choose when to fulfill your position as the lift “police.”
And, why do you have a hair up your behind when it comes to Andy??
Bindi & Derek’s dance was “breath-taking!!!” Listening to her package and watching her dance, caused a river to over flow all down my face. Holding her Father’s finger started the flood and it kept running. Worst case of “tear jerker” since Kellie Pickler’s Super Size Freestyle in S-16.
My favorite dance of the night. Go! TeamCrikey
Also enjoyed Andy’s, Alek’s and Hayes. Missed the first 9 min. of the show, and didn’t see Alexa’s dance yet.
@PH If your theories on who are and aren’t getting votes are correct, Alexa could be in major trouble. Do they have the switch-up before another elimination? That could be all that saves her
“But it’s a reality show, not a dance competition.”
I feel like I got hit hard by that fact tonight. No way behaving like this with Andy, holding Nick down and I don’t even know where to begin with the constant bum kissing of Tamar, it’s like I’m watching The Hunger Games.
Did anyone else see Binid’s brother wiping his eyes?
That dance was pure perfection. Amazing choreography. It deserved all 10’s. I hope it’s submitted and wins an Emmy. Definitely makes my all-time fave Derek dances list.
Will they be announcing the switch-up partners on GMA? or are they already announced?
I think the switch up is next week with no elimination. The votes and scores from this week will be combined with the votes and scores from next week for an elimination in Week 6. I think. They seem to change the rules as they go.
I have to say I agree that Bindi and Derek deserved a perfect score. It was just so breathtaking! I also agree with some of the comments about Nick’s dance. It made my BSB fangirl heart so happy to see that dance!!
As of right now (and this is subject to change) my favorites are Bindi,Nick, and Alek (albeit tonight wasn’t his best but given the circumstances, I still think he did well)
I am excited for the Switch Up next week, I definitely agree that I would like to see Bindi with Mark and maybe Alek with Sharna?
Think Bovida may have to change some odds. can some tell me if Alison’s pregnancy will affect a position in season 22?
I would think so, Stoli. She will have just given birth or will be very close when season 22 starts. Depends on what her actual due date is.
If she’s already given birth…well, that’s a personal choice I guess.
The way Allison dances, I kind of worried about her being pregnant. She already has a little belly (cute) and I hope she is feeling okay. Maybe she’ll tone it down a little, for the baby’s sake. I thought it was random to announce her pregnancy on the show, but oh well.
I knew about Witneys engagement a couple of days ago when she put it on IG so I don think it was that shocking…..
I’m definitely not a fan of Contemporay Dances because the movements are so odd, jerky, rough and I have no idea whats going on. But with Derek and Bindi’s Contemporay it’s the first Contemporay where I understood clearly the dance. And it was beyond Breath taking. BEST EVER !!!!
Bindi and Derek’s dance totally deserved the highest score of the night…ought to have been a 30. It was beautiful and whichever judge said it was like watching how Bindi lives her life as a beacon of light, was absolutely spot on. Derek is a genius choreographer and this routine was pitched perfectly. I usually gravitate toward Mark and his partners, I like to see what craziness he cooks up, but this season I’ll be rooting for Bindi to win.
I would also like to second those who are uncomfortable with Alonso’s continued presence. I didn’t like him as a judge and I thought his comment to Alexa was at best ill-phrased and, at worst, out of line. I’m glad they let it be aired that it didn’t sit right with her either. And it couldn’t have been more clear than tonight that Tom Bergeron is the heart and glue of this show…on point with comedic timing and just the perfect touch of sweet comforting papa bear when emotion gets too heavy or the judges overstep the line with comments. Prayers to his family.
To be fair to Alfonso he didn’t really do anything wrong. People can’t forget that Tom was absent for the first time EVER which is a massive deal for the show and for his step in. Alfonso read the autocue, didn’t try to be clever and did his job. Poor guy got a major case of bad luck having Gary be eliminated while he was host. I can’t imagine how loud the director was screaming in his ear to wrap it up while Gary was in speech mode, you could see his painful grimace while Gary was talking.
My favorites of the night (in order)
Bindi & Derek
Hayes & Emma
Alek & Lindsay
Tamar & Val
Nick & Sharna
I thought Alfonso did a great job filling in for Tom. He had some good funny moments too.
Was kinda bummed to see Gary go but I saw it coming. And I loved his “elimination” speech. Best. Ever. Lol.
Looking forward to the Switch Up – If I heard Alfonso correctly he said that, as of now, Tamar is with Louis and for some reason I found that hilarious 😛
I thought that Alfonso actually did a good job. I was rather sick of seeing him and hearing about him, but he handled being host very well. Not so sure The Berge could have done better with Gary. And really, do you WANT to stop him when he gets going? Could be ratings gold…unless of course networks are like airlines – they get fined when they leave the gate too late 🙂
Alexa’s sister plays Grace, Alicia’s daughter on The Good Wife!! She’s so pretty!
Alexa’s dance was cute. Too bad she messed up a little. Too bad she doesn’t see the difference between giving Mark 100% on the dance floor and being married to Carlos.
Gary? I guess he did as well as possible.
Val’s rumba was boring. It seemed like the same rumba that I see from him every year. Tamar danced what was given to her nicely but did not deserve 9’s.
Hayes danced very well and I loved Emma’s choreo!
Yay! Allison!
Yay! Julianne and Apolo! Love them!
I am so bummed Alexa is not doing as well as she can be. I know she can do wayyyy better. You can tell in her dances, but I just think Mark is not bringing it out of her. I really hope she gets Derek for the Switch-up. If anyone can bring the best out of a celeb like that, it’s Derek. Come on Alexa! I have wanted you to be on DWTS for the LONGEST time and now that you’re on, what’s going on?!
I also thought it was random for Allison to announce her pregnancy on the show. Don’t know if she was doing it for the votes, but like a few of you on here, the first thing I thought of as well was that I hope this means she’s not a pro for Season 22. Don’t mean to be rude, but she just really needs more training.
Nick’s dance did look like a freestyle but I still loved it. Bindi’s dance was phenomenal. Derek did fantastic!
Alek looked like he was so unhappy inside. Lindsay looked absolutely beautiful. I feel like he could’ve killed it with more practice.
Nick’s dance was super fun. Seemed like a freestyle though.
And yes, in that bumper, Sasha totally dropped Scarlett! Loved him in Bruno’s Elton video outfit!
Now that Paula is still in the competition, I think the switch-up between the male pros/female celebs is going to be interesting. I think Derek is the best fit to partner Paula (compared to Mark and Val) but I really want Derek and Tamar to pair up. Would also like Mark to pair up with Bindi. Not only do I think he does well with younger contestants, it would also be nice to see him happy for once this season – and I definitely think Bindi can lift his spirits.
And congratulations to Allison and Twitch! I hope now that she’s pregnant she’ll calm down and not throw herself into every move in her dancing. Will be interesting to see if she comes back as pro next season. If she doesn’t, I think Lindsay’s chances of staying pro are very good.
I generally do not like contemporary dances but always enjoy Derek’s. Kellie P, Bethany and now Bindi, WOW. Bindi did an excellent routine matching Derek with each move. I will watch it many times. I thoroughly enjoyed Hayes he and Emma are my third favourites. I have to admit Im thinking I will vote for Tamar to be with Derek,, would love to see if her attitude will be different. Great to be able to comment on the show as its happening. Thank you M Heidi.
I really respect Alexa for honestly saying how she felt about Alfonso’s comments.
When they got to the actual foxtrot, I really liked the choreo of Alexa and Mark’s dance. It was cute and fun. Too bad she made that little error. Comparing to the other dances though, I think I would have liked to sneak in one 8 in there.
CAI’s comment about Carlos’ dance almost gave me an aneurysm. How can you go from, “It was good but it is a dance competition and I have to judge the dancing” to basically not caring about the technique and calling the other judges cray cray for doing so?! Because we all know who the crazy one is.
I love Sharna’s fangirl moment with AJ! And I think she did a great job with mixing her Jazz choreography (which I agree, she’s really great at. Noah, Charlie, and even Andy!) with what people want to see in a Backstreet Boys dance. I’m glad we have this fun, upbeat dance amidst all the emotional ones. Happy that he didn’t dwell too much on the bad parts in his life and focused on the boys and how he considers them family. I was a bit bothered by the camera angles though. Some were so low that the crowd was blocking Nick and Sharna and I couldn’t see the whole dance for a couple of beats. But overall, I loved it.
Bindi and Derek’s dance was epic. I just can’t with this girl. That package turned me into an emotional wreck. When she broke down after that thing about holding her dad’s finger…ughhhh! I’ve cried a lot in packages before and Bindi’s was definitely not an exception but let me tell you, I have never cried this hard because of the dance itself. I mean a few have made me tear up but never like this. The dance told a story; the arch of her life with her dad, him leaving but then realizing that he’ll always be there. The choreography was fantastic. I loved that little hand part that they did. I want to get a bucket and dump 10s on them. How CAI rated that the same as Carlos’ dance, I’ll never know.
Oh, and congratulations to Allison, tWitch, and Weslie! Baby Boss in the house! But how does Allison still have abs while 4 months pregnant?! I feel inadequate now. Sorry for the long post.
Carlos did a good job! Nice to see him more vulnerable.
Andy did so well! I loved that routine! Carrie Ann is hosing him unnecessarily.
Derek’s choreo was beautiful! Bindi is really a beautiful spirit.
Gary deserved to go home with Paula going next.
Beautiful night of performances.. All had a special meaning..
I’m still moved by Bindi& Derek’s Contemporary piece. It was stunning. I’m so impressed with this young lady’s maturity & ability to embrace the essence of every dance. Derek is doing a phenomenal job with her~ This routine IMO deserveda perfect score! It was definitely the BEST of the night.
Thank you Bruno~ Julianne loves to hear herself talk-lol Not sure how they can give a routine the highest praise, no criticism and dock it a point. Anyway Team Crikey made a mark on the competition tonight!! Bindi is in it to win it!! 🙂
Also really enjoyed Carlos/Witney ~ gorgeous performance. Not sure why the judges keep nitpicking him. Feels like an agenda.
I was so emotional after the last performance & the overall night, had to watch something funny 🙂
Enjoyed Tamar and Val’s rumba. Bindi is a sweet young lady.
My favorites of the night:
1. Hayes & Emma – just adore their partnership. He is really doing so well. I can see them in the finals.
2. Alek & Lindsey – very intense dance. Definitely think the week took a toll on him personally. I did think that Lindsey danced around him a lot.
3. Carlos & Witney – not a big fan of Carlos, but I thought this dance really showed his commitment to this competition. His package was very sincere.
4. Alexa & Mark – cute concept and choreography. Alexa was doing so well until she had that little mishap. She definitely reminds me of Candace Brue; and Candace went all the way to the finals. I wouldn’t count her out just yet. I do admire her comment about family coming first.
5. Nick & Sharna – I really liked Nick’s previous dances, but this jazz was not my favorite. It looked more like Sharna’s wish dance with the BSB.
6. Andy & Allison – poor Andy. First Peta getting hurt, now Allison announcing her pregnancy. I’m afraid he could be the shocking elimination. I’m hoping he gets Emma or Witney next week to maybe bring up his scores a little. Allison is not one of my favorite female pros, but I’m very happy for her and her husband.
7. Bindi & Derek – for some unknown reason I don’t find her appealing in her dances. I don’t know what it is, definitely not Derek’s choreography. I just don’t see what others are seeing in her.
8. Tamar & Val – I thought their rumba was okay, but there still is a distance between them in their dancing. They may make it to the end, but I don’t think they will win.
9. Paula & Louie – I think this couple will be next to go!
As for Gary & Anna leaving, Anna’s prayers were answered.
I wonder if with Len out for this season, CAI is trying to fill his shoes as the “cranky/mean” judge. The problem with this is that Len would get cranky over the usual things, lack of actual ballroom steps, breaking hold too much, messin about. He was pretty consistant in his critiques.
The trouble with CAI as the mean judge is her total lack of consistency while judging. She brings down the lift hammer on some couples while letting lifts slide by with other couples without any comment.
She yammers like an idiot while gushing over a couple who gave an entertaining yet flawed dance while bringing out the whole “it’s week blah, blah. We need to see more” for for a different couple that also gave an entertaining yet flawed dance.
Consistency woman!
Highlights of the show for me:
Nick and Sharna’s Jazz to Everybody gave me happy feet, happy hands, happy head, you name it.
Bindi and Derek’s whole package this week. The rehearsal, the dance itself and the aftermath of the dance was so moving and emotional. Derek really seems to be in awe of Bindi’s heart and zest for life. It’s a really touching thing to see them interact with each other.
Sasha as as music video Bruno!
Bruno in said video with his err……….prominent banana hammock.
Gary gave a typically wacky, rambling speech at the end and what’s weird is that I’m starting to figure out what he means. ??
Just heard on GMA this morning that Mak will be the guest judge next week. Should be interesting!
Thanks, Heart – was going nuts trying to figure out where I knew Alexa’s sister from. Much like Alexa was driving me crazy at first. 🙂
Best of the night hands down, Bindi and Derek. Perfect dance and execution and it was clearly worthy of 3 10s. I was also very impressed with Hayes, I adore Alexa and I’m glad Carlos made it through. I think Alexa, Carlos and Andy are underrated and I just love Andy’s infectious personality. I’m with Heidi on Nick. He’s great but that dance was underwhelming perhaps because it was exactly what I expected–no wow moment for me.
Gary ended it on a perfect note–what a class act. I also thought Alfonso did a great job.
My faves of the night:
Tamar and Val
Nick and Sharna
Hayes and Emma
Alek and Lindsey
Call me a cynic but this week is never my favorite, because I know that people will bring on the waterworks and frankly it annoys me. I just FF because I am not interested in even seeing any of their packages, years ago they were fun to watch but now they are so scripted.
And finally Gary is gone, now if Paula can be next!!
Power rankings are up: https://www.puredwts.com/2015/10/06/puredwts-season-21-week-4-power-rankings/
Congratulations Allison & Twitch. Selfishly I’d be happy if she’s out for next season. Ryker was her perfect partner. Andy can’t handle that level of choreography.
Loved seeing the clip of Apolo & Julianne.
When do we find out the switch up pairings? Any spoilers?
