The Dancing Poetry Corner – A Year In A Life

What was your Most Memorable Year? It’s hard to choose just one, isn’t it? I have mentioned my wedding year and the year of my husband’s death before. Another year comes to my mind:

2011 – March 23rd to be exact. I had gotten done cleaning the house my sister and I used to share in Mechanicsburg, PA. I had planned to go out after I got a shower. After the shower, I slipped and hit my leg full force on my vanity and fell backwards through the door frame into my bedroom. A trip to Urgent Care was made and the following Monday to an Orthopedic doctor. My terrible injury turned out to be a deep bone contusion/locked Achilles/sprained foot. I could not put weight on that right leg for months. I was in a wheelchair, not being able to walk. My PT cousin started me on an aggressive regimen of PT to get me walking again. I did use a walker and finally at the end of July, I was fully walking unaided. Here is the kicker, my sister and I decided to put our house up for sale in June and it sold in ten days. Somehow, even though I could not get around well, I managed to pack up my things to move which we did in July back to our hometown of McAlisterville to be closer to family. It was a very stressful time for my caregiver sister and me. It was a whirlwind and we finally got settled in our new house on October 7. We stayed with my younger sister in the interim.

Everyone has a story similar to mine. From joyous occasions to those that have brought gut-wrenching sadness, turmoil, and life-changing events. The stories in the Ballroom depicted those times and many more. Tom Bergeron is living one of those stories by needing to be with his Dad. Alfonso Ribiero ably filled in for him. We found out Allison Holker is having another baby. Congratulations to her, husband, and daughter! Witney Carson’s engagement was mentioned. Happy times interspersed with the Most Memorable Year theme. Emotions were dripping all over the Ballroom.

The Judges revealed their Most Memorable Year. Julianne chose 2007 – coming to Los Angeles, joining the show, and winning her first season. Carrie Ann chose 1993 – being part of Madonna’s Grille Tour. Bruno chose 1983 – being in an Elton John video. Sasha Farber gave us a chuckle emulating Bruno.

PureDWTS Season 21, Week 5 – Who’s Dancing What…and When? And With WHO?

It’s switch up week!! I didn’t vote much…mainly because I think Derek will do amazing regardless of who he’s with. And I don’t believe our votes actually count for anything. 🙂 Sad but true. Them’s my thoughts on the matter.

Anyway, we’ll be trying to figure out the couples and the dances and the songs as the week goes on. If you hear or read something, please remember that we need a LINK. Also remember that we have twitter – if you see it and the post hasn’t been updated 20 minutes later, by all means, let us know. Original pro is in parenthesis.

ETA: The sound you are hearing is Heidi screaming in rage from the golf course she’s currently on. And me swearing under my breath at my desk. I don’t believe for one minute that Val got Bindi fair and square, and that Mark really got Paula fair and square. Also hearing a bit of vacillation on who got Alek – and implications that who got him may have changed between last night and this morning. And the bulk of these pairings just bore me to tears. For more discussion, you can check out my switch-up prediction post. -Court-

ETA2: Hearing that the pairs will be officially announced on GMA tomorrow morning.  No, I don’t know what time (although I’m guessing around 8:15 AM EST, if they do what they usually do); no, I don’t know if any of the couples will be there (though I doubt it). We will be live blogging it – most likely over at my switch-up post. -Court-

ETA3: No announcement on GMA (surprise, surprise) but People did just post the list.

ETA4: A couple dances…no offense to whoever posted that Alek & Emma have rumba in the comments, but it almost seems too good to be true since that’s what I was tweeting @DancingABC all last week 😛 -Court-

ETA5: Updated with Louis & Tamar’s dance…

ETA6: According to Derek’s blog, Bindi has cha-cha and Alexa has tango.  Guess if Derek had to miss out on doing one dance with Bindi, he’d pick cha-cha or samba, which he has said in the past are his two least favorite dances. -Court-

ETA7: Vogue here. The official press release from ABC has been posted. The rest of the dances are filled in below.

ETA8: I GOTS TWO SONGS, HEY HEY HEY HEY!!! And I’m already swooning over Alek & Emma’s…even if it’s not “Holding Out for A Hero”… 😉 -Court-

ETA9: So…we have Alexa and Derek’s song, but since it’s Derek’s, I put it over at PDH. 😉

ETA10: Well, lookie here. A little birdie told us a few more songs.  We know the song by Hayes name is being used…but I’m not sure if we’re sure it belongs to Hayes.

Alexa and Derek (Mark) – Tango (See PureDerekhough)

Hayes and Allison (Emma) – Viennese Waltz (Song: “Like I’m Gonna Lose You” by Meghan Trainor)

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Andy Grammer Writes On His Emotional Night On Dancing With The Stars, Interview With Extra, WhipClips

Andy Grammer has written a new blog at She Knows. It was an emotional night, but, it was so special to him. He has some kind words to say about Gary, Derek & Bindi, and Carlos & Witney as well. You can also listen to a new Extra interview with him and Allison at Extra.

For me, it was an emotional night because the lead-in package to our dance was all about my mom’s passing and trying to make her smile wherever she is. It’s a TV show, but these stories and emotions are super real to me, so it was actually pretty intense.

What made it even more special is that I was able to do the dance to my new single “Good To Be Alive (Hallelujah),” which I think had me the most comfortable on the dance floor that I’ve been yet.

Unfortunately, the incredible Gary Busey was sent home; we all miss that quirky force of nature of a man.

Other notable dances were Derek Hough and Bindi Irwin’s dance for her father to “Every Breath You Take.” And I also really loved Carlos PenaVega and Witney Carson’s dance to an a cappella “Amazing Grace.”

PureDWTS Season 21, Week 5 – Switch Week Predictions!!

So once again, TPTB kinda went “Plot twist!” last night and moved the switch-up to week 5, even though we had been hearing that week 6 was the actual switch week.  So given that – and the fact that they inadvertently tweeted this out last night – it’s entirely possibly that the switch voting was all for naught, and they’re going to do whatever the hell they want and cherry pick their own pairings.  It’s happened before, with Meryl in season 18 and Sadie in season 19 – neither one went to the pro they had the highest vote count for.

ETA: Starting to get some intel on the pairings – and I’m afraid the news isn’t great. Below are what I’ve had confirmed so far – and I’m sure you can tell that not all of them match up with the data I’ve seen. Also worth mentioning? That Alek’s partner may have been tinkered with – as in he had a different partner as of last night than the one he had this morning. I would still take this with a grain of salt – switch-up is one of the scheistiest things this show has ever done, and who knows if they are still tinkering…

ETA2: Apparently the pairings are getting officially announced on GMA tomorrow morning.  No, I don’t know what time; no, I don’t know if any of them will actually be there (but I doubt it). Yes, we will be live blogging. -Court-

ETA3: Not a peep on GMA – wonder if plans changed, as my source was fairly certain they were going to announce them on GMA today.  But hey, if it’s anything like the cast announcement was – they probably moved the announcement over to Animal Planet or HSN or something 😛 Mark tweeted this around 2 o’clock EST this morning (so around 11 California time) – looks like he was hopping on a red-eye, and considering the only female celeb that rehearses outside of L.A. is Paula…I guess that lends credence to what we’ve already heard. Also trying to make sense of this tweet by Emma – if she got Andy (as some are guessing from some tweets of his she favorited), I would think it would still be dark out if she was catching the early morning flight to wherever he was – but in the picture she posted, it looks light out, and she looks like she’s in her own Jeep…which she would be more likely to drive if she was headed to McCadden, not the airport. Thoughts?

ETA4: And not 2 minutes after I post this, People posts the official list:
Actual pairings:
Paula & Mark
Alexa & Derek
Bindi & Val
Tamar & Louis
Alek & Emma (!!!)
Carlos & Lindsay
Hayes & Allison
Andy & Sharna
Nick & Witney

Court’s postmortem thoughts on the results? TPTB totally cherry picked – the only one of these that I think was legitimately the highest vote-getter was Alexa & Derek, and depending on whether you count the oodles of bot votes Alek & Emma. THIRLLED about Alek & Emma :-D, but pissed that Hayes somehow ended up with Allison – calling total bullsh*t on that one, since almost everyone tweeting Alek/Emma was also tweeting Hayes/Lindsay. We made sure of that. I guess I’m glad she didn’t get Nick, but she should have gotten Carlos.

Sharna Burgess Writes About Her Dreams Coming True On Dancing With The Stars Last Night

Sharna Burgess has written a new blog at Hollywood Life. Let’s just say, she is on cloud 9!

Well after last night, I guess it’s safe to say that Dreams really do come true! I never could’ve imagined at 13 years old when I was standing there after school copying the Backstreet Boys choreography to “Everybody,” that all these years later I would be on Dancing With The Stars dancing with a Backstreet Boy (with some of the Backstreet Boys in the audience!) and dancing to that very same song. It was surreal!

This week went from epic moment to epic moment. I was so happy that Nick let me into this side of his world; I learned a lot about him, and at the same time I got to live out a little bit of my rockstar dreams! I couldn’t have imagined this performance going better. I think Nick was perfection, and I had the time of my life with him on that stage. I hope it was as fun for fans to watch as it was for me to perform that iconic BSB song with Nick!

PureDWTS Season 21, Week 4 – Power Rankings

*looks around* Wow, Alfonso hosted DWTS and the world didn’t end. Right on! Seriously, though, I though the guy did a pretty damn good job – his pacing was good, he didn’t talk too much, and he kept things moving. I’m sure there are some that would disagree, but as for me? I’m just thankful that he stepped in for Tom and seemed to minimize any potential disruption that Tom’s absence caused. But the joke about joining the band? Played out, dude. Pun intended 😛

One rather strange observation about last night’s show? The running order – it struck me as kinda odd, and I wasn’t the only one. Seemed like they actually front-loaded the show with good dances, and relegated some head-scratchers to the end of the show. Seemed…backwards. I would have moved Andy, Paula, and Carlos to the first hour; and probably moved Hayes, Tamar, and Alek to the back. Not much else to add, just that it all seemed kinda out-of-order to me, given the quality of the dances.

Other noteworthy moments? Allison announcing her pregnancy – my god, that child is going to be gorgeous and talented. And it leaves the door open for Lindsay to remain a pro next season, which makes me happy 😀 And who doesn’t love Sasha channeling Bruno circa 1983, in one of his “I’m Still Standing” getups? Guess I’m just thankful that it wasn’t the bizarre black man-leotard thingie… 😎

Did @DancingABC accidentally tip their hand with regards to the switch-up? They tweeted out this eyebrow-raiser right before Alek performed – and it has since been deleted. Someone told me that the phone votes were saying “Thanks for voting for Alek & Sharna!” as well, but it didn’t do it for me. Just a senior moment, or someone inadvertently tweeting about next week’s pairings? You be the judge.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy To Be A Guest Judge Next Week On Dancing With The Stars

Special thanks to @IdolXFactor1 for this GMA recap of last night’s show, but, check out the end. They announce Maks Chmerkovskiy will be a guest judge next week on Dancing With The Stars. Oh boy, buckle up your seat belts…

PureDWTS Season 21 Week 4 Media And Interviews, The Couples Talk On Switch-Up Week Next

What a show last night!! From one dance to the other, I was mesmerized and in awe of how great each couple is and in different ways! Below are the scores which I pretty much agree with. Though I think the judges should have given Bindi and Derek all 10’s. But, wow, what a tight competition we have this season.

Bindi Irwin & Derek Hough 9-9-10 28
Tamar Braxton & Valentin Chmerkovskiy 9-9-9 27
Nick Carter & Sharna Burgess 9-9-9 27
Hayes Grier & Emma Slater 9-9-9 27
Carlos PenaVega & Witney Carson 9-8-8 25
Alek Skarlatos & Lindsay Arnold 8-8-8 24
Andy Grammer & Allison Holker 7-8-8 23
Alexa PenaVega & Mark Ballas – 7-7-7 21
Paula Deen & Louis van Amstel 6-6-6 19
Gary Busey & Anna Trebunskaya – 6-5-6 16 (Eliminated)

For recaps and interviews, keep scrolling down though you’ll need some tissues for a few of them. Note too how the couples talk on Switch Up Week. They find out today (Tuesday) who they are paired up with and what their dances will be.

ABC7:
I love how Gary says he’s not going home and that we’ll still feel he and Anna’s spirit dancing…
