DWTS Derek Hough And Bindi Irwin Practice The Dirty Dancing “The Lift” (Photos), Rehearsal Interview, And More
If you haven’t seen pictures of Derek Hough and Bindi Irwin rehearsing “the lift” for their “Dirty Dancing” dance, see E! News. The New York Post and the Daily Mail have even more. They are amazing!! To read and see more including a new rehearsal interview with ET, a discussion on whether a slower version Of “I’ve Had The Time Of My Life” will work (there is a piano version I love that would be perfect in my opinion!!), Derek’s blog, pics of Jennifer Grey arriving to rehearsals, screen caps galore from last week (Heidi is outdoing herself), and lots more see Pure Derek Hough.
Nobody lifts Bindi in the water…except Derek for #DWTS' tribute to #DirtyDancing! http://t.co/oJOHdGhkvy pic.twitter.com/MGExs7sD4d

One, two, three, four, this is what we’ve waited for, four perfect scores and nothing more…or less!
I’m feeling Bindi and Derek are gonna be delivering a sweet ‘baby’ of a number Monday night. 🙂
I’m scared for that lift on the show! Wasn’t Jennifer recently quoted saying that she and Patrick never practiced that move and just did that one time only?
But then again, it is Derek and if something goes wrong, he will be able to save it.
I just love everything derek brings to the dance floor and in life. That positivity and energy with Alexa really shined through the TV. It’s weird how Val tries to show positive energy but it seems fake and too intense on TV. Val’s eyes have no warmth or love there.
I’m sorry, producers, but quit trying to make Val like a Derek. It ain’t happening. He has zero charisma.
I hope Bindi gets a perfect 40. She is a joy. However, this would not be the first time there was an overhead lift on the show.
Rumer and Val did this amazing overhead lift. Here it is https://instagram.com/p/2nE3WHvhd_/
Take heart, Heart. If you can speak positivity into life with your words spoken aloud, then let’s all shout some big time encouragement their way for Monday night!
And, also for me, Val’s likability quotation is usually hovering near negative numbers, sadly. I think he is an extremely talented dancer and choreographer, and may be a fantastic friend and all-around great guy as well, but it isn’t coming across to me on TV. I kind of feel like I’m watching a more subtle and refined version of John Travolta’s “Grease” character trying to be too-cool-for-school most of the time. Definitely not cool. But to show just how incredibly positive an influence Bindi can be on those around her, I actually warmed a tiny bit to him…verrrry tiny.
Hardly an apt comparison, ExerciseFan – that was a contemporary dance, where lifts are allowed. They are not allowed in a rumba.
Since Rumer was experienced in aerials (among other things), it should have been amazing. But for an untrained, inexperienced dancer, this is just dangerous.
Jennifer and Patrick never practiced it and only did it once because Patrick had horrible knees or back (can’t remember which). It’s a very difficult lift to do, especially with a novice. I expect Derek will have male troupe on the floor as spotters. Although I’m more worried about Derek than I am Bindi. I don’t want him to end up in the same condition as Patrick – which is where many dancers do end up.
As for Val, I actually saw moments or *real* warmth and humor when he was around Bindi. I recognized it because it’s so rare.
I have been fascinated by Bindi’s effect on Val. The moments of him coming up with his “first animal metaphor ever,” trusting her and handling the snake, that little thing he did right at the beginning of their interview with Erin which was to make sure that Bindi didn’t have any lipstick on her teeth, and the way he absolutely cracked up at the very end in reaction to Bindi’s roar of excitement — it made me start to think that he may well be a different person if he surrounded himself with different influences — so sad that that probably will never happen.
YAY, Dirty Dancing for Team Crikey. The photos look AMAZING too. 🙂
Very excited to see what Derek creates as a tribute to this Iconic dance!! So happy he gets to perform this number with Bindi~ I agree with Derek in that there are some similarities between Bindi & young Jennifer G. in this film.
Knowing he possibly had this role in the remake it’s cool to see him be the one to perform it on dwts with a celebrity partner. If he gets his way, it could be Epic!!
Good Luck Team Crikey!! 🙂
I bet Patrick’s wife will be watching Monday night. Derek said in his blog that the producers wanted every Pro to make the “Iconic Dances” as close to the original dance as possible. He also sad the Pros had freedom to work with; so the dances should be awesome.
So excited to see Bindi & Derek’s “Dirty Dancing” dance to the song that was my favorite part of the movie.
Yes, Good Luck and Stay Safe: TeamCrikey!
I love Lisa. I hope she’s in the audience and watches too!!
I wouldn’t doubt that both Lisa and Jennifer are in the audience, Vogue
Can’t wait to see Jen Grey in the rehearsal package and hope she and her daughter are in the audience. She hasn’t been around much since she won – loved her and Derek – my favorite pair…
So excited for this dance! Can’t wait to see what Derek choreographed! Last week’s dark tango with Alexa was really great and now the beauty and purity of Dirty Dancing with bindi! Just love what he brings to the show!!
