Bindi Irwin is a “Badass” Per Derek Hough’s New DWTS Blog
Since PDH is currently experiencing technical difficulties, I figured I would post Derek’s blog here first. It’s a very interesting read, as per usual. I suggest you all check it out. I’ve put an excerpt of below. It’s pretty much as I guessed re: ghostbusters and his thoughts on losing.
I think you guys are more bummed about my team dance record ending than I am! Team Nightmare totally deserved that win. That was so, so good. I’m not gonna lie — I felt like our song was a complete letdown. Maybe not “complete,” but nothing againstGhostbusters — which I love — but the song was less inspiring. When I saw the other group’s dance, I was like, “That’s the one.” They were just so cohesive, and the costumes and choreography were so perfect.

This week we have the foxtrot. I don’t think Bindi is thinking of foxes just yet. It’s always a little hard going from one of my favorite dances, the Argentine tango, to something like the foxtrot. I’m trying to make it interesting and add some fun elements to it. What’s fantastic about Bindi that I don’t think people realize is that she does her homework. If we do Dirty Dancing or Lost Boys, the next day, she comes in and is like, “OK, I watched the movie and a bunch of videos last night and then I watched our rehearsal video. I was studying them.” She comes in having done all this homework and is ready to go. She wants to get better and is not just all talk. It’s amazing. She’s definitely not of those people who just put in the work while in rehearsal; she goes the extra mile. So, yes, she did watch The Jeffersons after we got that song!
A typical Derek blog, gracious and well-balanced. Glad he gave the Nightmare team props, just wish it would extend the other way too. Bindi is indeed a rare creature. Positive to a fault, hardworking and kind. Derek has met his perfect partner and I would love to see this lightning in a bottle team go all the way.

Bindi is like a bright, warm sun on the outside who has a core pure steel on the inside. Three toenails fall off and she’s like “yeah, whatever”.
If this is to be Derek’s last season as a pro on the show, it’s so wonderful that he got such an amazing partner. Whenever he speaks about Bindi, you can almost hear the amazement and admiration in his voice. It’s really very moving.
Bindi truly is Derek’s perfect partner. I hope to see this amazing pair raise the MBT in 4 weeks time. This season is flying by, and every week from this pair has been a joy.

She and he have a beautiful symbiosis going on. They just have bonded as well as I’ve seen any partnership bond on this show. But then again, they’re probably the poster children for a positive and uplifting friendship dynamic — how she handled the loss of the Jetson’s music and all that training time was the epitome of grace and adorableness. And the 3 toena…excuse me while I lean over into the sink a moment. Sweetest bada**, evvvv-er! 🙂
If he does win the MBT with Bindi, he could (I don’t want him to) retire knowing that he actually struck on lighting in a bottle with that lil’ lady! 1/1,000,000, for real!
As always, I so enjoy every Blog that Derek writes. I love how he humbly gives others credit. What a true example of a true human being. Love this guy!!!!
I don’t think Derek is even giving it a thought about himself winning (a least in respect to the MBT); but more on the journey Bindi is having and the tremendous, awesome partnership they have and positive atmosphere Bindi creates in whatever she is doing. She came into this dancing show with no physical fitness sport or any dancing career in her past or even singing/musical stardom. Yet she has grasped Ballroom dancing and put her ALL into it in every way possible. She is a true champion in more ways than one, also.
I would really love to see Bindi win…she’s so nice, positive and charming. I don’t see how anyone CAN’T like her. Which is why I HOPE TPTB don’t start their manipulation games that seem to come out every year since S18 :/
Derek is always humble, giving others credit where it’s due (Unlike OTHER Pros on this show). He truly wants his partners to shine. I would hope that he moves on after this season…because really, there isn’t anything more for him to do. If he could be creative director and choreo the opening numbers rather than Mandy Moore, that’d be great. Give him a 6th and FINAL MBT and I’ll be SO happy!
Wow Bindi is awesome! I mean I already knew that but this makes her even more awesome in my book!
I’m so mixed on my feelings about Derek after this season. On the one hand, this would be a great season to go out on, especially if they do end up winning the MBT, and I would love to see him as Creative Director or what other project’s he’d do next. On the other hand, the show seems to be building up Val to be the next headliner pro after Drek leaves, and as I’ve said before I’m not looking forward to the day that happens. I might actually have to stop watching.
If Val was going to be a headliner, it would have happened on it’s own by now. And the only reason they are trying so hard, is because they know Derek will leave, eventually.
They should just let these things happen. Oh who am I kidding TPTB would never do that, at least not with Rob Wade at the wheel.
I am desperately trying to find a dress similar to the one that Bindi wore this week.If the wardrobe department could steer me in the right direction I would be extremely grateful. … Bindi and Derek are sure to win……
