Commercial for DWTS 21, Week 8 – Pressure’s On!! (Video)
Oh boy, I don’t think this commercial bodes well for either Carlos or Alexa. Either one of them is going home, or they’re setting up for the dance off….or both. Is it wrong that I hope it’s Carlos leaving??
The highest scored dance gets immunity this week! The pressure is on – tomorrow on #dwts! https://t.co/dvxcPGkhe3

I don’t think Carlos is going home, and I hope Alexa isn’t going home either.
I think they are setting it for the dance off.
But I have a question: would they send Carlos and Witney to Phoenix to see Mark Anthony, if they were going to be eliminated? It would be quite a waste of money.
My biggest wish is for Tamar to leave! The sooner the better!
Sure they would, Pedro. They’d do it to get Marc Anthony on the show. Which gets his fans watching the show for that night. Which increases the ratings. Not everything is about Carlos actually.
From here to the finals is the start of the Producers rubbing their hands together in glee. They know with the continuing pressure that the celebs are going to show a moment of frustration that they can spin any way they want. Even the pros will be showing a different side as with Allison’s tough love on Andy. It will be interesting to see how they use these moments. Judging by what we’ve seen so far, Bindi isn’t going to give them what they’re looking for. Although it makes me smile thinking about the surveillance the Producers are putting on her and still coming up empty. Kind of hard to spin her dance frustratiion when all you have to work with is a fine mist over a field of flowers.
I would like to know what happens if two couples get the same highest score?
@Pedro
What they’ve said before, is the couple with the highest cumulative score would then get the immunity. So that’s Bindi. The next highest are Nick and then Carlos and then Tamar. So if Bindi is to score 30, even if she dances first, that part of the challenge is over. Which is probably why we have no news about the order in which they will dance. Also, it will be interesting to see if the judges appear “stingy.” They might if they are trying to give the boon to a particular couple.
Heidi, I don’t think you are wrong to want Carlos to leave. I wouldn’t care if it’s him or Tamar to leave.
@Colleen
It doesn’t say the best cumulative score, it says the best dance.
This is the extract of Broadway World: “For the first time this season, the couple with the highest score from their solo dance will be granted immunity from elimination next week and will also receive 3 additional points.”.
So what I wanted to know, let’s say that bindi and nick both get perfect scores, who gets immunity?
Because this is a show and they cannot leave loose ends, and the judges are supposed to be impartial and independent of the producers.
@Pedro
I can read. I know what they say in the article. But you asked what happens if 2 couples get the highest score on immunity night. In that case, the fair way is to go by cumulative score. To do anything else, like ask the judges to decide, REEKS of manipulation. They also can’t go for a public vote for that because it would hold the show up.
Maybe Pedro should read the site for a while before posting as that question has been answered several times on different posts.
Colleen is right – if Bindi and Nick were to both get perfect scores, Bindi would get the immunity – that’s the way it’s been in the past anyway. If Alexa and Carlos both get 30’s (or 29 and that’s the high score), then Carlos would get it. If Bindi, Carlos and Tamar all get perfect scores, Bindi gets immunity.
PH, if wanting Carlos to go home is wrong, then I don’t want to be right. (Though tbh I do kind of want him to stay just one more week because there are certain pros I want to see in other couples’ trios much more than Witney.) But either way I’m still not certain if the celeb leaving tomorrow will be either PenaVega, though I am kind of worried for Alexa since being in jeopardy twice could mean something.
Is it bad that I laughed at the “shocking elimination” comment? I mean I know not everyone pays as much attention to things like voting patterns and package edits as we do, but this wasn’t nearly as much of a surprise as Willow Shields’ exit last season. When everyone left is doing fairly well, we know someone good will have to go home.
Exactly! How was Hayes elimination shocking? It was sad as he’s a darling and it was a good partnership. But it’s not like he had a high score on Famous Dance Night. I don’t remember if Hayes had ever been named as “in jeopardy” but so far, they haven’t necessarily said the true bottom 2 in any week yet either.
If it’s Tamar, Alexa or Carlos I’ll be happy.
Lol, would love to see another shocking elimination. Sorta like the one in season five.
What about this commercial does not bode well for Carlos or Alexa? I thought the video was just talking about competition pressure (which we generally expect for all the couples)?
Of course these folks have competitive natures, but don’t forget they receive $30,000 for tonight (week 8) and $50,000 for both weeks 9 and 10 if they survive. Not a bad weekly wage to strive for.
:::rolls eyes:::
I didn’t know that the weekly wages were that paying high. Then Alek should be motivated since he probably doesn’t really want to go back to Costco! One week is way more than a costco annual salary! He should say that he needs the $ to make people want to vote for him!
I’m with anyone who wants Tamar and Carlos to go next!!
Pure conjecture on my part, but this promo makes it look like Alek is going home, setting him up to look unmotivated to the point that Lindsay hits him in the ears (she ‘s not helping his image any & this hurts her chances to stay in the competition, too,) so when he’s eliminated the producers are saying “see it’s his turn bc/ he looks so bad in the rehersal package.
Lindsay may have learned a lot about teaching when she was in troupe as to “what works or doesn’t,” in her words, but she sure didn’t learn the public relations part of the show. It’s a team effort & her rolling her eyes at Alek when he was justifyably dismayed at the low scores relative to the other teams didn’t make Lindsay look good either, as a seemingly non-supportive partner, & may well contribute to their getting sent home tonight. Lindsay needs to learn from Mark, Derek & Val who always side w/ their partners, when they feel like they are scored unfairly, & encourage them not lose confidence no matter what the judges say.
Several of the sound-bites from this promo were actually part of the packages from last week’s episode. Lindsay saying Alek needs to step up, Carlos saying his wife is his competition, the footage of Alexa in her paso “practice skirt”… I’ll be curious to see how the packages for tonight’s show compare to this promo.
Kinda missing the point – commercials can be used in many ways besides just reminding people the show is on. Get them excited, get them worried, get them thinking in a certain way. Who knows how it’s being used this week, but it’s VERY interesting that they chose to show Carlos saying his wife is his competition. You don’t really believe they just throw stuff together, do you?
@PH Oh I think it was very deliberate that they focused on the lower scoring/ less popular couples in the promo. I’m just not convinced that it’s foreshadowing for the elimination since so much of it is from the week prior. It does make me wonder if Team Takedown is having another rough week… But the PenaVega “competition” is played out. Very little Bindi or Nick footage, in terms of rehearsal anyways.
@PH But I haven’t been following the show that closely for very long. I’m sure there’s a lot I have yet to learn with regards to the producers and the stories they want to tell.
It doesn’t have to be foreshadowing for elimination but it could be any number of things….like them manipulating the dance off, for example. They use last week’s footage to say something about the coming week all the time.
Well, PH, after the mishandling of the contestant announcements before this season, I think they *might* just throw stuff together! Hopefully it doesn’t mean that Alek is leaving. Since he has contemporary, I hope that he’ll do well tonight.
