The Season 21 Champion Will Be Declared on Tuesday, November 24
“Episode 2111 & 211A” – After weeks of competitive dancing, the final four couples advance to the FINALS of “Dancing with the Stars” this MONDAY, NOVEMBER 23 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET). Alek Skarlatos and Lindsay Arnold, Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough, Carlos PenaVega and Witney Carson, and Nick Carter and Sharna Burgess have one last night of competitive dancing, fighting to win the judges’ and America’s votes to be crowned the “Dancing with the Stars” champion on TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 24 (9:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.
On Monday, November 23 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET), the finalists will compete in two rounds of dance. In the first round, one judge will help each couple choose the creative elements of each dance, which is a re-do to a new song. Carrie Ann Inaba will work alongside Lindsay and Alek, as well as Bindi and Derek. Julianne Hough is with Nick and Sharna, and Bruno Tonioli is with Carlos and Witney. In the second round, in one of the biggest competitive dances of the season, the couples take on a freestyle dance featuring special effects, additional dancers and unexpected surprises. There will be special performances from Meghan Trainor, singing “Like I’m Gonna Lose You,” and Who Is Fancy, Ariana Grande and Meghan Trainor performing “Boys Like You.” At the end of the night, the couple with the lowest combined viewer and judge votes from the previous two weeks will be eliminated.
In the two-hour season finale on Tuesday, November 24 (9:00-11:00 p.m., ET), the three finalists advance to the final stage of the competition. There will be live dancing and show-stopping performances at the Grove shopping center and in the DWTS ballroom. The night kicks off with a high-energy opening number, featuring a reunion of all 13 of this season’s couples at the Grove. The finale will be filled with performances from Alexander Jean, Andy Grammer, Chaka Khan, Elle King and Nick Carter. Kim Zolciak returns to the ballroom to dance a Samba with Tony Dovolani to “I Dream of Jeannie,” which she was never able to perform, along with encore dances from the eliminated celebrities. The cast of the upcoming “Dancing with the Stars: Live! Dance All Night Tour” will perform a dance to Avicii’s “Broken Arrows” as a sneak peak of the 90-minute show traveling the country this winter. The three finalists will each dance a repeat dance from this season. In the last element of competition, the couples will perform a new routine as part of a “24-Hour Fusion Challenge.” The remaining couples will fuse two contrasting dance styles that they’ve performed this season and they’ll have less than 24 hours to prepare that dance for judges’ points. At the end of the night, the winner of the coveted Mirrorball trophy will be announced!
What is the deal with Meghan Trainor? I don’t dislike her but they have used one of her songs every single season at least once and she’s been on before.
Thanks for posting this Vogue!
Does anyone (maybe one of the nurses who comment here) know the likelihood that Tamar will actually be cleared to dance on the Finale?
Same with Ariana Grande. They love her as well.
Would be cool if they got Adele to sing Hello.
# Tina I agree but highly doubt she wnats to introduce her new album in DWTS. I’m curious if the fact that Nick’s performing on Tuesday might help him in votes?
Nick’s new album is getting released on Wednesday…
I’m surprised that they’ve put it out there that they will be using the scores and votes from the last 2 weeks to determine the elimination on Monday. And there will be 2 “reruns?” The one on Monday will be to a new song and with creative input from a judge. And then a straight re-do on Tuesday? To the original music? And who decided which dances each finalist couple will repeat on Tuesday?
@Lucie yeah that’s true. I heard she’s very picky. And when Nick performs on Tuesday the votes will have already been in and counted so that won’t make too much of a difference.
After we saw Kim’s samba performed by Tony and Jenna I can’t imagine her doing it will be a good idea or will make her look any good. Why do something a pro already did?… and quite great. I would have chosen any of her other routines…
@Tina oh I didn’t know that. I’m not form US so I really don’t know much about voting and when exactly it’s closed. So on Tuesday are all the votes already counted and they only add the scores from their dances to determine the winner?
So if I am remembering Heidi’s numbers post correctly this does not help Nick by using the last 2 weeks votes? I am guessing on the 2nd night the redo dance will be one that the couples have picked themselves. I wonder if Derek/Bindi will redo VW since Alexander Jean is performing? Just a thought and I remember Mark recently saying that she “might” be performing for the finale which made me think it wasn’t a sure thing.
So let me understand this… A Judges dance, the Freestyle, a dance they have previously performed and then the fusion?
Dang…
And when they say they’re combining the scores from the last two weeks that means Week 9 and 10, right?
Hmmm this is interesting.
Love the lineup! Megan and Ariana! She has a great voice but the only way that song she is going to sing (not the one with Ariana) has john legend on it so maybe he will be there too? Ariana is a killer singer so I’m all for that. Im worried about Kim though. What she had doesn’t seem like something one heals from that quickly.
I think the dance they have previously performed will be just for fun & the judges won’t score that. Like Rumer performed her disco salsa & Riker performed his jive last season during Tuesday’s finale. 🙂
So they’ll have to prepare 2 dances for Monday’s finale -judges pick & the freestyle. Then finally, they’ll have to prepare for the 24 hours fusion dance for Tuesday’s finale.
You could go over to the numbers post and see what I wrote, renee. 🙂
@cc by: I was just thinking the same thing in regards to what factors in regarding the scores. something seems fishy.
In the past when they’ve redone a dance on tuesday, the couple picked their favorite dance. I think this is when Derek wanted to pick the AT that Shawn did in the switchup, but the producers made them redo their quickstep.
They have scored the redo dance in the past. It all depends on what they want to happen, I think.
PH, I don’t know how the Tuesday repeat dances will work, but Shawn’s quickstep was redone on the Monday.
I read somewhere that Shawn and Derek wanted to re-do their Tango/Paso fusion that Derek didn’t perform, but TPTB nixed that because Melissa and Kelly chose dances from Week 3 (iconic dance week) and they asked if for their QS so all 3 repeats were from the same week.
If the redo dance is a scored dance then surely that allows for quite a bit of manipulation as then there are two dances’ (with the fusion dance) scores that are added to the couples combined score after voting has taken place? And this can sway the outcome quite a bit since judges scores count 50%
PH Mark had danced paso/tango fusion with Shawn because Derek’s neck was acting up.
Has there ever been 2 “rerun” dances before? The way I read that is a re-done dance style on Monday but with creative input by a judge this time. Like last season when Len danced with Nastia, Julianne with Riker and the other two just directed their teams with an idea. But that was to a previously unused style last season. NOT a rerun. They have also had the couples re-do a dance before, once with new music and once as the original performance. But not in a year with this judges idea dance.
And so no Derek’s Paso this season?
WoW, the pressure is really on for the final contestants. Four dances total.
It’s a shame Bindi & Derek will not be doing a Paso this season. I remember Derek saying at the beginning of the season that that’s the one dance he wants to see Bindi perform.
I think in Seasons 10 and 11 they did Night 1: Judges Choice/Redemption Dance (previously done style, new music/choreography) + Freestyle, Night 2: Favourite Dance (for ranked judges points) + final challenge (Season 10 was something weird/cool that I can’t remember the specifics of how it worked, and Season 11 was an instant dance relay thing). Obviously this was a really long time ago so we have no idea if there will be any similarity between then and now, but it’s the closest comparison I could find.
Also, I’m another person disappointed that we don’t get to see a Paso from Bindi and Derek because 1) Derek’s Paso’s are always awesome, and 2) I wanted to see Bindi do one (as Derek had said at the beginning of the season).
I think Nicole’s Proud Mary jive was on night two, was it not? And it would have been a redo. I don’t know, I remember the dances but not how they all played out and I’m not concerned enough about it to look it up. The producers will just do what they want anyway and they’ve done it a million different ways up to now.
You’re right PH, it was. That was the “final challenge” as I called it in my earlier comment. I think that round was something along the lines of the couples getting to choose the style and music that they wanted to dance to as their final dance. Nicole chose jive and Evan chose quickstep; both styles they had done well with early in the competition.
The producers sure do like to change things up a lot, especially when it comes to the Finale week.
That Proud Mary Jive is one of my favorite Nicole dances – she just slayed that. Kinda funny that her freestyle was kind of a let down after many, MANY amazing dances. That seems to happen more lately than it did back then.
I agree, that dance was awesome! And I agree about her freestyle too. They had done so many amazing dances that season that it was almost impossible to live up to what they had already done. Nicole’s is probably my 2nd least favourite of Derek’s freestyles (Ricki’s being my least favourite).
I think the problem with freestyles now is that after so many seasons it’s hard for a lot of the pros to come up with something new and exciting. They’re also trying so hard to win that they end up either going too over-the-top or trying to go for something that was used to great success the first time or two it was used (often by the Houghs) but has become so overdone that it’s boring (like hip-hop and contemporary freestyles).
ok so they are combining the scores from the last two weeks than it really puts Bindi a head, lol yes I actually did the math to find out & yes I included the dance off scores as
This makes me very hopeful that Bindi at the very least will not place fourth, Bindi would have had to have gotten the lowest amount of votes in the last two weeks for that to happen.
If on Mon night each judge will help one couple with creative elements, how are they going to do this, given we have 3 judges and 4 couples left? Am misunderstanding this? Also, no disrespect to fans of other couples, but is there any reasonable outcome under which Bindi would not win this? I really think it is hers to take, and I can’t imagine she and Derek would not wow us in the finals.
YOU did the math, SMR?? LOL…you could have read the entire post on the subject.
On a random note – everyone should go youtube Karina and Slavikks rumba at dance legends NYC. I don’t believe this particular performance was on youtube before a couple weeks ago – it’s the one where they kiss in the middle and she cries at the end. So incredibly beautiful.
