Is Emma missing from the group? I can’t make everyone out in the video. Doesn’t look like Britt is there either. Really hoping my eyesight is just bad and Emma is at least in the troupe this season.

I’m surprised Hayley was in this considering she was busy with Derek most of last week.
Glad DWTS is holding on strong and putting out great performance. My dream is to be on Dancing With The Stars to perform. Maybe one day I’ll have that dream come true.

It didn’t look like it was particularly difficult choreo, Sonic. These are professionals and have been known to pick up harder dances in a short period of time.
I wouldn’t put too much stock in absences from this dance. If people are THERE, they are likely going to be on the show in some capacity…but I doubt someone not being present means they’re not.

I’m disappointed not to see Emma today but hope she’s still going to be around this season. Maybe she had something come up and was unable to do today’s performance and TPTB said “no worries, we’ll get Hayley to fill in on Kelly and Michael.”

@Cidra – one can only hope. I’m also very disappointed not to have this classy lady back as a teaching pro. I suppose seeing her in the troupe is better than nothing, but as you said elsewhere, it seems a ridiculous waste of her talents and abilities.

I’m curious re Emma, If she’s out I’m not excited about this season, first Karina now her? I’d take both of them over Sharna and PETA any day of the week, not to mention the four younger girls. I have to believe someone requested Edyta, or they’re trying to appease the original viewers now that their #1 is sitting out. I’m so glad he told them no this season.
I’m also a little disappointed that Keo seems to back as a teaching pro. While I understand the need for another tall male Pro on the roster, he’s not a very good teacher. Both his outings thus far have been all but painful to watch, in my not-a-dancer opinion. A beautiful man and a beautiful dancer, with a good heart from what I’ve seen, but a lousy teaching Pro (IMO of course). Here’s hoping he’s matured some in the off season, and maybe gotten a few pointers from the teaching vets along the way.

Linde, I think for better or worse Keo will be a teaching Pro until TPTB find another male ballroom dancer of color. No question the show needs diversity, but as has been mentioned before, they were too hasty when they picked Keo and didn’t even give him 1 season in Troupe. Even so, I’m not sure Troupe would have helped a lot because I just don’t think he’s got what it takes to be a good teacher in the rather specialized DWTS teaching environment. I do wish he’d make an effort to improve his methods by watching other seasoned pros and asking for help, but he doesn’t seem to be motivated to do that. Guess we’ll see what this season brings.

Cidra (21) – I agree completely. I love watching Keo dance, but I cringe watching him teach.
And while I still think that Derek is out, I have to admit that seeing Hayley this morning made me at least give it a second thought. If Hayley wasn’t at practice last week, because she was with Derek, but now Hayley appears – maybe Derek could too. I know its doubtful – her learning that 60 second dance is nothing compared to the time Derek would need to be spending if he had a celeb, but – it did give me pause.
PH, your comment on the other page about some latest dwts new regarding Derek were you still referring to him being on Broadway or something else?

I’m wondering if, considering Derek’s injury while he was doing NYSS, he has committed to NOT doing DWTS as part of his contract for SITR. I had been thinking that maybe he could be a guest performer once during a season — it would be phenomenal to have him perform with Julianne!!

Oh no.. after her absence this morning, Emma tweeted something cryptic :/
@Suzy I’m sure I’m not the only ones thinking that it would benefit DWTS to be able to show Derek, upcoming Broadway sensation, has a big association with this network hit. I’m sure Harvey Weinstein and the DWTS team with both see opportunity for promotion there. So even if we don’t see Derek on DWTS in some capacity this season, he’ll probably appear on ABC closer to the SitR opening even more than he did for Disneyland 60 and it would shock me if Derek Hough isn’t seen perfroming on DWTS sometime in S22 or S23. And maybe a bit of a break will make the fans grow even fonder!
Love that Edyta is back. Not surprised at all if Emma sits out a pro season. She hasn’t been all that successful with her partners. Even got bad scores on her rumba with Alek. It isn’t a terrible thing to sit out a season.
@Jamie – Emma has also gotten saddled with some pretty hopeless partners that any other pro likely would have struggled with – Bill E., Mikey, Billy Dee, Redfoo…and as for the rumba with Alek, it wasn’t NEARLY as bad as the judges made it out to be. It’s not all on her.
Jamie, considering the skill and/or fitness level or many of Emma’s partners, I’d say she’s been *very* successful with them.
#32,33 – totally agree about Emma’s partners. IMO she is prob the most versatile of the female pros. I think Sharna may be a better choreographer, but Emma is almost like a chameleon and able to morph into whatever she needs to be to make her partners shine. If she had good partners, I think we would see even more incredible stuff from her. Because she actually has done a phenomenal job with the celebs she has been given, IMO.
I agree sitting out isn’t the worst thing, when a pro needs some time to reassess their methods, but I just dont see that with her. I love her quirkiness and her honesty.
Also, do you think if the Kim Fields rumors are true, that Sasha would be her pro? From a height perspective? I see people saying that val might have amy willerton – but I feel she would be more of a keo type celeb.

Learning more about how the casting went last season, it makes a lot more sense why Lindsay and Emma kept each other so involved in each other’s seasons. It speaks volumes for their friendship.
I still don’t understand why Emma would be an “on the fringe” pro when Sharna seemingly isn’t. I’m guessing the MBT is why Witney appears to be “safe”. I don’t think either Sharna or Witney are necessarily better pros than Emma…I think she’s done a great job with the partners that she’s had. Both Witney and Sharna have had total ringers.
All I can come up with is that TPTB are looking to go full on sex pot this season- Karina, Peta, Sharna, Edyta, Witney?
@Whitney – I’m guessing because Sharna is more likely to win the show an Emmy than Emma is – although we have no real way of knowing that, as Emma has gotten saddled with duds time and time again and likely hasn’t had a chance to show off her choreographic prowess.

Why does it seem like the male pros are locked into spots moreso than the female pros? Is my perception totally off on that. To me it seems like the same guys (I know Artem kind of got screwed last year, and Sasha hasn’t been a pro for a while) but for the most part the guys seem to stay the same. And Keo is given a pass time and again even though he’s been the first one voted off. But it seems like every year they’re changing girls, or there are questions about who the female pros will be.
On the topic of female pros: I don’t get the appeal of Witney. I thought she did great with Alfonso, but I feel like anyone would have done well with him. Her other partnerships just seemed so blah to me and her choreography was kind of boring. I’d much rather have Emma than her, but I’d pretty much choose Emma over most of the female pros. I’m hoping something changes and she is given a celebrity.
Jenny #39 Re Witney – I think part of the appeal of Witney (and, to a lesser degree, Lindsay, and a greater degree, Allison) is the SYTYCD demographic. Those two have lasted father on the show than any ballroom dancer who has competed (Hayley also made it to Top 6 on her season, but she’s troupe and not ballroom by training so I’m going to exclude her for my point.) They carry their own fanbases that are probably pretty big from the show, and DWTS wants to conquer them. So they keep them on.
All things considered, Emma is probably more successful than either Sharna or Val. Compare her partners to theirs, then where she placed to where they placed. They’ve had some huge ass ringers and didn’t make it as far as Emma did with Bill, to name one. I might just do the math on that one. Seriously, Val has been handed a ringer nearly every season and is never a lock for the finale. His record is only good if you don’t look too closely.
Lea (#38) – Sorry, no Tristan.
I do think it would be interesting to do the math. Do it! In terms of Sharna she made such a huge impression with Noah that I think that has really sealed her position. What has potentially kicked Emma out is the fact that Lindsay did such a great job with her potentially hopeless celeb. Now that Peta is back, how many blonde female pros can the show really handle? Peta’s injury is what made a spot for Lindsay. Whitney’s in because she and Alfonso are like a little DWTS husband/wife team at this point (not being literal of course- you all know what I mean). She’s not going back to troupe unless she stops altogether for a few years to have a family and comes back in. Male dancers always have an easier time keeping spots because it’s not as competitive as it is with the hoards of female dancers.

Not to get too off topic about the specific season, but does anyone else think that Witney’s actual dancing (not just choreography) has gone down in the last two seasons? Last season specifically, there were moments when she was dancing that I thought she was going to fall flat on her face or her limbs were flailing — even when she was dancing with another pro! Maybe I’m way off based as it isn’t like I have any real dancing knowledge, but I went from really liking her in S19 to thinking less and less of her abilities. I know there is the whole choreography getting help thing, but it’s more than that.
Last season really turned me off of Wit and turned me on to Lindsay.
