Keo Motsepe Teases On DWTS Week 1, Theme Weeks, And More (New Interview)
The IB Times interviewed Dancing With The Stars Keo Motsepe. Keo is excited to say the least about getting Jodie Sweetin as a partner. He describes his first meeting and how he fell to his knees in delight after her spinning her. More below including some teasers on their first dance and the themed weeks he’s looking the most forward to.
“I saw [Val] dancing with Stephanie [on ‘Fuller House’] and I was like, ‘Wow, she can dance. I wish she would come dance on the show. That would be awesome if I could dance with her.’ And it just so happens that she’s my partner this season,” Keo said before giving IBT details on their first meeting.
The dancer stated that he knew he was going to have a great partner when producers told him his mysterious ballroom buddy wanted to rehearse the very same day they met.
“Usually the first time you meet your partners you ask each other questions and that’s it. But I get my schedule and they’re like you’re going to meet your partner and she wants to practice. And I’m like, ‘The same day? Sounds like I have a good partner for the season!’”
Keo explained that once he started spinning Jodie around during rehearsals, he fell to his knees in pure delight. “I knelt down on the floor and was like, ‘Yes! God, thank you!’” he said after witnessing her dance skills in person. In fact, Keo revealed that Jodie is so talented, he’s confident Team MoSweet can survive the Week 3 curse. (Keo has never made it past the third week on “DWTS.”)
“We were talking about [the curse] the other day,” Keo told IBT. “[I told her] no partner and I have ever made it past Week 3 on the show and when we pass Week 3 — knock on wood — it’s going to be our first experience together. I don’t know what it’s going to be like in Week 4 or 5 or what it’s like to dance during ‘My Most Memorable Year’ with my partner. So it’s going to be a great and uplifting feeling for me. And to share that with Jodie is very special.”
The dancer explained that the other themed-dances he’s looking forward to perform are “Latin Week” and “Disney Night,” which will allow him to “be creative and do something special for my partner and myself.”
Although Keo wouldn’t dish what Team MoSweet’s first dance would be, he did promise that fans will definitely enjoy their ballroom debut.
“It’s going to be very special because I’ve never done this before on Week 1 of the show,” he teased. “Its going to be very special and interesting.”

OH MAN!!!…
I LOVE Jodie & I love how Keo dances but…
he’s been the worst teacher on this show…
I hope he stops with his awkward flirting (&focusing on himself), and starts realising, how much of a contender he’s got as a partner….
so… KEO? get your sh#t together & don’t dissapoint me!
German DWTSfan is watching you :))
As much as I’ve loved Disney night in the past, I’m really starting to get burned out on the idea. Why not bring back the side by side challenge they did in season 16?
Disney night! Love that. Hopefully they get to Disney week though since he tends to no deliver the goods choreography wise.
I love Disney night and always welcome it in the ballroom!
Disney night is a bit of a mixed bag for me. There’s no doubt that it’s produced memorable dances over the years, but sometimes it’s too much to have an all Disney night with eight or so storytelling routines, one after another. However, I really, really doubt that this season will have as many big theme nights as last year so bring one on!
I’m not a fan of theme weeks, but Disney Week always delivers. I like the fact that it’s very specific because it keeps TPTB from turning it into some type of stupid reality faux-drama. I’d be a happy camper if the ONLY theme they did was Disney Week.
As for Keo, I hope having a ringer like Jodie as a partner gives him the validation he so obviously needs. Maybe then he’ll be able to turn the focus onto his partner (and her goals) rather than on his goals and needs.
I couldn’t agree with you more Cidra. This is Keo’s chance to show us what he can bring to the dance floor and I also hope he has grown up and changed somewhat to putting his pardner 1st and steeling the “limelight” both in rehearsal and out on the dance floor. It’s about her not him. He’s a great dancer and just needs to focus on her. Can’t wait to see her dance. She has become a beautiful woman.
Something he’s never done on Week 1… So it’ll either be a Foxtrot, Quickstep or Tango (since Mischa’s Week 1 dance is a Tango).
I’m hoping that this partnership has the Lindsey effect.. Taking Lindsey’s terrible prior pro showing and turning it into something lovely.
I for one, am excited for this pairing. I say bring it on!
Tango in week one kinda scares me to be honest. All I keep thinking of is strictly and how some have had that in week one and it just seems like they always look more nervous than the others. Keo must be excited to do dances he hasn’t done on the show yet though.
I don’t usually comment on the couples before I saw them live but yay for Disney week! Season 20 was one of my least favourite seasons ever but Disney week was totally the MVP. Season 18 was one of my favourite seasons ever and Disney week is my favourite week in it. So sign me up for another Disney week this season!
Vin I have mixed feelings about Tango being danced on week 1. Not only about the technicality but also the Tango attitude, after all part of what makes me very fond of Alexa’s Tango was because she committed herself into it like she’s never before. But then again, an even harder Ballroom dance (Foxtrot) has been danced on week 1 since ancient DWTS times, so who knows really. Hopefully Mischa (and anyone else who got Tango) didn’t disappoint.
Speaking about Strictly, has it been discussed here about Tristan resigning from Strictly as well? Ola, Aliona, Kristina and now Tristan, damn we’re going to see tons of new pros or old ones coming back this year.
