Dancing with the Stars Season 22, Week 4 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?
It’s Disney week next and it was announced on the show that Zendaya would be a guest Judge. @DWTSGossip also mentioned at twitter that Len may take 1- 3 weeks off. Usher might be a guest judge as well.
ETA: Vogue here. Via Sharna’s new blog, she and Antonio have a Jazz next week. Read below for more.
ETA2: According to E Online, Jodie and Keo went to Disneyland to get inspired for their dance. You can read on their song below.
ETA3: According to a new interview with Paige at MMAJunkie, she and Mark have a Quickstep to “Toy Story”.
ETA4: Heidi here checking in from New Orleans with a food coma. Jo on twitter asked some of the pros/celebs what their Disney movie was.
ETA5: Got a few spoilers – source wasn’t 100% sure on Kim’s song, but given that it’s the only one from that movie that has ever been used as a quickstep on the show before (by Chad & Cheryl in season 10), I’m fairly certain it’s correct. -Court-
ETA6: Karina says “#jazzisnext” on her latest Instagram post, and apparently Jodie & Keo said in an interview with People that they have cha-cha, but the person that told me this on Twitter didn’t provide a link and I just don’t have time to search for it – guys, please spare our sanity and if you’re trying to fill us in on something you read, at least link to it. -Court- Vogue popping in: Here is the People interview that mentions they have a cha cha next.
ETA7: Vogue back again. According to ABC, Val and Ginger have the song “Bonjour” from Beauty And the Beast.
ETA8: Source says Wanya has samba, and the song is a bit of a head-scratcher for me…but at least I get to chant “pink pajamas, penguins on the bottom” as the song plays. Looks like we might see Von tackle Prince Charming (pun intended ;-)) next week. I’ve also been told that that Paige has been singing “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” on Snapchat – I guess it is possible for that to be a quickstep, if you speed it up. -Court-
ETA9: According to a late night GMA FB session, Ginger and Val have a Foxtrot. ~Vogue
ETA10: Per an interview with Wanya & Lindsay on the ExtraTV Snapchat, Wanya’s song is actually some sort of dubstep remix of “Circle of Life”. Ok, that makes a helluva lot more sense as a samba! Thanks to @KCD410 for the heads up…things are getting a little crazy around here with just me & Vogue holding down the fort! -Court-
ETA11: The rest of the dances and songs have been filled per Broadway World via Disney ABC. Be sure to read the link for more details on the show. The opening number sounds amazing. ~Vogue
ETA12: Preliminary intel out of camera blocking seems to point to Paige closing the show tomorrow night 🙂 And this, kids, is a very good sign – makes me think that Paige may be getting more votes than we think. -Court-
ETA13: Thanks to @MaddiRoseL on Twitter, who pointed out that Antonio shared in his Facebook live post that he is dancing first tomorrow night – based on what I’ve heard, he and Sharna had a pretty rough week with very limited rehearsal time, so combined with going first, there is high potential for a not-so-stellar score. Brace yourselves. -Court-
ETA14: Full running order up, courtesy of George Pennacchio. Thoughts? Marla, Nyle, and Doug are in what I like to call the “danger zone” – statistically the worst running order positions. Nyle probably just got put there because they couldn’t fit him anywhere else, or his set pieces/animation dictated a certain order, but I think Marla & Doug were intentional. Wanya is the penultimate performance for the 2nd week in a row – just can’t quite seem to bust into the pimp spot. With the exception of Nyle, the first half of the show is probably going to be much, much weaker than the back half. -Court-

Dancing last (10th)
Okay, so here’ a small wishlist of potential dances I would love to see next week (but probably won’t happen):
When Can I See You Again? from Wreck-It Ralph as a Cha Cha or Jazz;
Something That I Want from Tangled as a Jive;
I Bring You a Song from Bambi as a Waltz (standard or Viennese), Foxtrot, or Contemporary, whichever is best suited;
The Mob Song from Beauty and the Beast as a Paso Doble (bonus points if it’s done by Ginger and Val, because Val would be a great Gaston);
Let Me Be Good to You from The Great Mouse Detective as a more traditional Jazz number;
Any song from Descendants — in particular Did I Mention as a Jive, or Sofia Carson’s version of Rotten to the Core as some sort of Latin dance like a samba or even an Argentine tango;
And last but not least, a pro Latin dance (most likely Cha Cha) to Try Everything from Zootopia as the opening number. Not only it would be an interesting departure from the usual Disney Night openers, but it would also be a great way to plug the movie (if it’s still in theaters as I write this comment).
And I’m willing to bet Nyle and Peta will be dancing Contemporary to You’ll Be in My Heart.
I agree Bia, I so want to see Val as Gaston!
Some ideas I had were a Quickstep to the Kingdom Dance music from Tangled, Jazz to “Almost There” from Princess and the Frog, “Colors of the Wind” as maybe a Contemporary, and either Foxtrot or Quickstep to “If I Didn’t Have You” from Monsters Inc. (depending on the version of the song used).
Also this one is REALLY out of reach but I really want a Jive or Quickstep to Billy Joel’s “Why Should I Worry” from Oliver and Company!
I’m still waiting for a Salsa to “Hawaiian Rollercoaster Ride” from Lilo & Stitch. It’s such a catchy song! And Lilo and Stitch is way too cute a movie.
If I had to guess I’d say maybe Nyle and Peta have a Foxtrot to “You’ll Be in My Heart”.
There is a song from the princess and the frog called “down in New Orleans” that I think would be great for a quickstep or a jazz. I would also love to see a dance to “strangers like me” from Tarzan. Also (and this is slightly embarrassing) but one of my fav songs from the Disney catalogue is “a very merry unbirthday” from Alice in wonderland. I have no idea for dance style but I know all the words of they and its addicting.
Hit submit too early: I also wouldn’t mind seeing someone take on “friend like me” (don’t get me wrong Mark choreographed a great one to that as did Cheryl but I would love to see what Lindsay could do with it).
Ugh i loveeeee “colors of the wind” from pocahontas! and “strangers like me” from tarzan! Squee! Lol.
Why havent they done tangled??? SO many good songs to choose from! I dont know the names of the songs though!!!
Isnt hawaiian roller coaster ride too slow for salsa? Also imagine someone dressed up as stitch ?
my dream songs include:
-Strangers Like Me from Tarzan
-Define Dancing from Wall E
-My Belle Evangeline from The Princess and the Frog
-Weezy’s Version of You’ve got a Friend in Me from Toy Story 2
-Be Prepared from The Lion King (had this song been done already? maybe?)
Cannot wait for Wanya and Nyle!!
Paige and Mark should do a Waltz/Viennese Waltz to “I See the Light” from Tangled.
Some guesses for what they’ll use based on media timing/concurrent advertising for movies.
Beauty and the Beast :movie coming out 2017
Tarzan: movie coming out in 2016 and Nyle obv. told us
Would love to see Karina and Doug do something from Pocahontas (rumba maybe)
I’d be surprised not to see something Jungle Book or Alice in Wonderland themed with the movies coming out really soon.
Be Prepared from the lion king would be a dope Argentine Tango, but they would prob put it for jazz. I bet “The Bare Nesseccites” from jungle book is one with that movie coming out. I would love to see the spanish version of the toy story theme as a Paso or salsa. But my 2 all time faces have to be “I Wont Say Im In Love” (Foxtrot) & “Beauty and the Beast” (Waltz/Viennese Waltz),
I would love to see:
A JIVE to Hakuna Matata from The Lion King
A contemporary to At Last I See the Light from Tangled
A foxtrot to Ever Ever After from Enchanted
A quickstep to The Bear Necessities from The Jungle Book
A jazz/quickstep to I’ve Got No Strings from Pinocchio
A waltz to Beauty and the Beast from Beauty and the Beast
A contemporary to Part of Your World from the Little Mermaid
A samba to What Made the Red Man Red from Peter Pan
Noticed on Karina’s instagram that she and Doug have jazz. I don’t know if I’m the only one, but I seriously still don’t like jazz as a dance style on this show, and there have only been two that have been done on Disney night (Charlie and Nastia who both killed their dances). While I would rather see Doug do a rumba or a quickstep or something, I am hopeful because currently, Doug is my favourite of the footballers and one of my favourites.
I would also love to see a Paso Doble to Be Prepared. I’ve been choreographing one in my head for ages!
I have wanted them to use Ma Belle Evangaline from princess and the frog since Disney week began, but I’d be shocked (and ecstatic) if they used it. Would love to see something from Tangled, Pochahontas, or Mulan as well.
Look forward to the updates this week, and thanks for all you do!
How come I’m the only onde who doesn’t want a dance to I See the Light? Probably has something to do with my immense dislike for Rapunzel and Flynn as a romantic couple.
*only one
Damn autocorrect!
Another great one would be Friends on the Other Side from Princess and the Frog
Yes Aly! A dance to “Reflection” or “I’ll Make a Man out of You” would be amazing!
Wish list:
-quickstep to Dig A Little Deeper from Princess and the Frog
-cha-cha or foxtrot to Son of Man from Tarzan (really hope Nyle gets this!!)
-OR foxtrot to Two Worlds from Tarzan
-PASO DOBLE TO BE PREPARED FROM THE LION KING
-samba to Digga Tunnah from Lion King 1.5
Also:
-Rotten to the Core (original movie version) from Descendants as part of the opening number. It would be nice to have a couple dance to this, but I don’t see any contestant playing any of the characters /:
I’m not very good at matching styles but FWIW these songs are awesome and could inspire some great dances:
Toy Story 2 “When She Loved Me” (about how Jessie’s owner outgrew her)
Pocahontas – “If I Never Knew You” ( sung before she saves John Smith)
The Lion King – “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King”
Pinocchio “”I’ve Got No Strings”
Alice in Wonderland “The Unbirthday Song”
@Narice I Just Can’t Wait to Be King was done already. It was Cody and Witney’s Samba in S18.
@Bia It wouldn’t be the first time they repeated a song but yeah now that mention it I do remember Witney did a nice job with that.
Post updated!
Usher might be a guest judge? I hope it happens. I love Usher, he was an amazing coach on The Voice… and he won season 6!
I know I’m probably in the minority, but I’d rather see Nyle with his clothes on!. The underwear shots are kind of yucky to me.
I agree with u sandy for some reason that pic makes me feel like im in the bedroom with him made me nervous eek
Karina said on instagram that she and Doug have Jazz this week (it’s in the hashtags).
I love the idea of sharna and jazz and that song. Usher?! Love that even more. I hated him on the voice but love his music.
I am NOT looking forward to Zendaya at the judges table. Couldn’t STAND her in S16 because I felt like she was a spoiled brat who was allowed to get away with things that other contestants weren’t…like wearing sneakers every week or being allowed to go barefoot in a dance when TPTB told other contestants they HAD to wear heels (like Candace Cameron Bure and the Rumba)
I also don’t see her being unbiased towards Val as she is STILL very tight with The Fam..having performed in Sway and I’d also be willing to bet she’ll be a part of the Maks/Val tour this summer…GAG!
However I am glad that Antonio has Jazz this week. I think that’ll be RIGHT up his alley!
I’m looking forward to seeing Zendaya judge (except that she may overpraise Ginger and Val). I love this week every year.
Part of why she could get away with not wearing shoes or sneakers in certain dances is because she’s taller than Val. By letting her go barefoot, it doesn’t make their height difference as dramatic.
Jodie’s gonna be doing a ChaCha to “Try Everything” from Zootopia (according to a “People” article) and I couldn’t be happier! I was really hoping someone would dance to it. What a catchy and uplifting song.
I still haven’t seen the movie and it is killing me!
I have to respectfully disagree with you Kelly. Zendaya was only 16 when she competed, and she only wore sneakers three times on the show (while doing her hip hop, and doing her two instant jives) and she still performed as well as she did when she performed her proper jive in week 2 wearing heels. In terms of her going barefoot, she only went barefoot once? While doing the contemporary, so I don’t think she was doing anything sneaky there. There have been many other couples who have not worn appropriate shoes during respective dances (first one that comes to mind is amber riley wearing flat shoes in the jive in season 17 and alexa penavega wearing flat shoes doing the rumba). Nonetheless I respect your opinion.
I’m looking forward to Zendaya guest judging and i can’t think of someone more perfect. She’s had two hit shows on the Disney Channel (just winning a Kids Choice Award), and just released the song she did for Finding Neverland. She’s grown to be a confident, graceful woman and she is a exactly the rolemodel and inspirational figure (having won many awards for her humanitarian efforts) you would want on disney night. So she might overpraise ginger and val. I’m sure I would be a little bias if I came back to judge my former partner even when trying hard not be, but that might just be me haha. Nonetheless, good luck to all for next week!
And Usher as a potential judge? Awesome! Also, don’t know if anyone noticed this on snapchat, but brittany will be dancing this week, as well will be Lindsay’s sister Jensen. Can’t wait to see Jensen, I’m a massive fan of hers and the whole Arnold fam actually.
Not to go on again about Zendaya, but I think she’ll make for a better guest judge than Donny Osmond, just saying.
Yes I love that Zootopia song! I can literally see jodie and keo when listening to that song. And CCNY, you need to watch it ASAP. One of the best movies to come out of Disney.
Jodie and Keo are doing Try Everything from Zootopia.
Mark and Paige are doing a song from Toy Story.
Sharna and Antonio are doing Friend like me from Aladdin.
So far what has been announced on their blogs/interviews
Not a fan of any guest judges at all! Three stooges are enough IMO! But if they feel it necessary I’d rather a qualified judge (i.e. Kenny Ortega) rather than former contestants and or musicians! But that’s me?! I just hope with the pimping we already have, they don’t go overboard with Ginger and Val, but I’m not holding my breath!
I wonder if Val and Ginger will have Neverland sense Zendaya is judging next week .
Yessssss, one of my song wishes (Try Everything) came true! Not in the way I expected, but it’s still pretty satisfying. Fingers crossed for the Something That I Want jive now!
I really like Zendaya. She’s smart, hard working and drop dead gorgeous. Hopefully she’ll be impartial when it comes to Val, although I’m no necessarily expected it.
I’ve always wanted to see a waltz to Bella Notte from The Lady And The Tramp. Or a samba to I Just Can’t Wait To Be King from The Lion King. Maybe a foxtrot to Robbie Williams’ version of Beyond The Sea from Finding Nemo.
Susan2 Cody and Witney did a samba to that song in season 18, then they got eliminated
Thanks Zoe. I blanked out on that one.
I take it putting Zendaya in the judge’s seat is a form of product placement so I get it. I expect to hear how everyone is great and then she’ll score according to how she is told to, That seems to have been the pattern all along. I’m not sorry to see Len take a break. He’s just not feeling that job anymore and it shows. The money must be really, really good.
That IG of Nyle is hilarious. Did he really post that when asking for votes? I think he has Val beat for showing skin this season.
All of these something-somethings are making me antsy. Can’t wait to find out what all of the dances are!
@Rose1 Well, they do say sex sells…
The only song from Toy Story I can think of to fit a quickstep is “Woody’s Roundup”. Looking forward to it. I think Paige and Mark will have a blast being cowgirl and cowboy
I was also trying to find a song from Toy Story that would be fitting for a Quickstep.. All I came up with was “We Belong Together” from Toy Story 3. That would be a pretty cute dance!
@Rose1 – I’m kind of turned off by the photo. A little skin is okay, (and way more sexy)… but that photo is just a bit too much information for my liking.
Why would Zendaya be a better guest judge than Donny? Because she’s a bigger ringer? ?
Zendaya wore sneakers more than anyone else on that season and at times when it was very advantageous for her to do so. Others have been called out for their footwear (Lance springs to mind) but zendaya was both pumped and coddled. But no biggie… she didn’t win.
All that said… the Zen fans best keep cool. Not in the mood for fangirl BS.
@Elena and @CCNY What about ‘Strange Things’? That song is also from Toy Story, I guess. It is fast and Quickstep worthy. Let’s see which song they use.
@Moksh – OH I LOVE “Strange Things”! Such a good song! I’m not quite sure it would work for a Quickstep though. Doesn’t have that “bouncy” feel to it for a QS but I think a Tango would work great for it for a future Disney night.
Thanks to Disney Night I’ve spent most of my day listening to Disney songs. Hahaha. God I can’t wait until Monday night!
It would be nice to see Ginger and Val have a darker performance and see her play a villain. While I don’t think Val has a problem with that, after most of his performances with Rumer were shades of none but one.
But , I’d like to see Ginger not be so sweety pie cuddles and smiles every performance for lack of a better term.
An edgy, dynamic, dark, dramatic performance. Keep your partner growing, so we can see growth.
Also, better choreo por favor. I feel like Ginger has it in her, she just needs to be pushed a bit in a positive manner
Was just respectfully expressing my opinion, nothing wrong with putting it out there. Didn’t say I was a Zendaya groupie, although it probably came off that way, but she was a child while on the show, and now she no longer is, so just defending her. I wasn’t even rooting for her during season 16, was rooting for kellie and derek, so it’s got nothing to do with that. I just think she’ll be a good guest judge, and is she isn’t then I was wrong.
And I simply said she’d be a better guest judge than Donny because I think she’ll be less condescending, got nothing to do with their respective abilities. Donny kind of ruined Disney night for me in season 18, and hopefully Zendaya won’t do the same. I’m looking forward to all the dances more so than i am the judging, so i’ll leave it at that.
If we need to have a guest judge at all for Disney Weeek I’d rather have Riker impersonating Jack Sparrow than Zendaya, now that would be funny.
At 19 Zendaya is still younger than all of the pros and all of this season’s contestants so I still find it weird for her to judge them.
the only song from the toy story franchise that I imagine would suit a quickstep has to be we belong together from toy story 3 and I’m kind of hoping that that’s what Paige and Mark are working with because it’s such a lovely song.
*COMMENTING ON ZENDAYA HATERS*
I for one never rooted for zendaya and val, I was pro Kellie and derek since week 1. I’m no dancing expert but, I would have to bet that a jive is a hell of a lot harder to dance in sneakers than heels. So I’m giving her points for that and her jives were honestly some of the best jives of the shoes run. Just keeping it real people, not a fan of hers at all. But gotta give credit where credit is due.
Zendaya was only barefoot for her contemporary dance which most people are. And she only wore sneakers for her instant jive and the dance off.also hip hop which every one who dances hip hope does (Bethany and karina seaso15) Didn’t others like meryl dance barefoot for rumba which was the same season as Candace. Don’t hate…
Why would a Jive be harder to dance in sneakers? It’s like dancing in trainers.
I’ve done the jive in both sneakers and heels, as well as other dance styles of course, and trust me, it is much harder to dance in the sneakers. You wouldn’t think it, but it doesn’t have the same grip as the heels do, it’s not as easy to get the bounce or do seamless spins, as the heels have a nice smooth surface while the sneakers often have texture on the bottoms. and the kicks and flicks don’t look as pronounced as well.
I’m so looking forward to Disney week! Favourite week by far. Hopefully they come up with a great opening number like they have in previous seasons, with all the bells and whistles. Looking especially forward to Mark and Paige, i’ve been waiting to see a toy story dance done as part of this week (not counting the one hope solo did) so can’t wait for that. And of course, my faves of the season, Jodie and Keo.
Yeah, maybe don’t be childish and tell people “don’t hate”, Leandra.
And while we’re on the topic of dancing jive in sneakers vs. heels…
…I don’t care which is easier, jive is meant to be danced in heels. I don’t give Zendaya “props” for doing it in sneakers because it’s “harder”, I just shake my head because it’s not meant to be done in that type of footwear, as you can rarely get the right technique in it. I roll my eyes at it the same way I do barefoot rumbas.
Good god, Zendaya fans are still stuck on the “jive in sneakers” argument, 3 f*cking years later. Maybe time for some new material, guys.
Very, very pleased with the songs so far! I would have preferred Marla and Tony to have “Kiss the Girl” instead but “Part of Your World” is nice too. Maybe Contemporary or Rumba?
Only song that sounds like a Samba from the Tarzan soundtrack is “Two Worlds” so I’m gonna guess that one for Nyle and Peta. Should be a fun one!
Also, since Wanya has something from the Lion King, I REALLY hope it’s a Paso Doble or Argentine Tango to “Be Prepared”. I am already picturing Wanya looking like Scar and Lindsay one of the hyenas.
Marla probably has a contemporary, which with that song is exactly what I initially wanted. I hope Wanya and Lindsay have a jive to Hakuna Matata. I can see then having a ton of fun with that!
Leandra,
I had thought back during Zendaya’s season that the majority of the complaints about it was because Len would always call people out when not wearing proper shoes. Unless, my memory fails me, I don’t think she was ever called out.
Why did Sharna get Alladin again and a song that’s been used on DWTS even way before there was Disney Week, couldn’t Disney clear enough new songs for 10 people?
If Ginger and Val get Peter Pan or Neverland with Zendaya there that would be some serious pimping.
Exactly Geri – plus Donny (as annoying as he is) has a lifetime of performing experience.
Tony, seriously – Zendaya “haters”?? What are you, five?? There are no haters here – just people who are pointing out the reality to a few Zendaya fans who’ve decided to share their…whatever…with us. This season isn’t about Zendaya. At all. Now, all of you whining about those of us that don’t kiss Zen’s ass can go somewhere else. I don’t want to deal with that bullshit yet again.
You are correct, Renee – but the Zen apologists are very good and changing the narrative, much like many people who don’t have a leg to stand on.
I hated Zendaya wearing sneakers not because of the advantage or not – but because it looked dumb and the technique suffered and I don’t recall the judges saying anything about it.
Anyway, I’m fine with her being a judge on Disney night – it makes sense since she’s the Disney “IT” girl right now. I just hope that two things don’t happen- one that the crazy Zendaya fans don’t start going crazy (looks like it might already be too late) and two that she’s fair and positive without being overwhelmingly biased towards Val/Fam (not totally counting on that but I’ve been surprised before).
Also, I agree that it’s weird that Sharna has Aladdin again – but with “Friend Like Me” she shouldn’t be able to do Jasmine cosplay again, right? Not that there was anything wrong with it – she looked amazing – but I want new things, please.
Dancing Jive in sneakers almost always looks flat footed to me. The spring seems deflated. Honestly, during Zendaya’s season, I went back and forth between her and Kelli as my top celeb almost the whole season. What started to push Kelli ahead was the lack of proper footwear Val had Zendaya in way too many times. It’s a pet peeve of mine.
Also, Kelli and Derek’s freestyle was so memorable but I honestly can’t remember a damn thing about Zendaya’s and Val’s freestyle. Not one thing.
While I’m always happy to see Zendaya, because I do like her, personally I feel that only winners of the Mirrorball should be allowed to judge. Or no former contestants period. Or no guest judges period, which would be my preference. Or at least get guest judges with some experience in dance, especially ballroom.
There’s also a Spanish version of “you’ve got a friend in me” that could be used. Emma and Alan did a bumper to it in season 20 dressed as Woody and Jesse.
Slightly disappointed with the amount of songs being reused this season. With so many great Disney songs that haven’t been used, was looking forward to seeing new ones. Hopefully we’ll at least see some fun dances for the reused songs.
For those unhappy with the songs, just something to keep in mind: even for fellow members of the Disney family, like ABC, clearing Disney songs is still very, very tricky and also rather expensive – plus, they’ve gotta pick songs that can fit the dance styles, and not every couple can do contemporary or jazz during Disney week. I don’t think we can realistically hope for an entirely new crop of songs (that are also dance-appropriate) each time they do Disney week.
I think Aladdin is a good theme for Antonio and Sharna and Lion King is perfect for Wanya and Lindsay! Jungle Book will probably also be fun for Kim and Sasha. I’m not a big fan of Little Mermaid and I’m kind of scratching my head at that selection for MARLA of all people. If they wanted to make her a princess she’d probably be better off with a different character than Ariel. Tarzan is a nice choice for Nyle and Peta but I’m already feeling this will be the package where they talk about waxing his chest…
Zootopia is a fun one and I love that movie but are they really going to have them dress up as animals? I sort of hope not, because that’d be weird, but if they don’t I’ll feel a bit deflated because it might take us out of the “Disney magic” vibe. I also don’t think Jodie and Keo really suit the lead characters of that movie. Are they gonna have her be Shakira’s character or something? I think Ginger and Val or Paige and Mark would better embody Judy and Nick and I think Toy Story would be good for Jodie and Keo, but I can see Paige and Mark doing great with it too so I’m happy they have it.
Zendaya as a guest judge seems a little strange to me with her being younger than everyone but I’ve seen her around the media circuit and she does seem very mature for 19. And if Alfonso could judge Witney I guess Zendaya can judge Val.
@Julia I’m thinking that, for the Zootopia dance, Jodie will be dressed in Gazelle’s red ensemble with Keo as one of the tiger back-up dancers.
Zendaya as a judge? Spare me! Ginger will get pimped to death by her. If she takes a page out of Julianne’s book and judges Val and his partner harder than everyone else, I guess I could live with her sitting at the judges’ table.
Don’t you mean to say that Julianne judged Derek and his partner harder than everyone else Meggie? IMHO, at times, she overpraised Val & his partner. Or do you mean that Zendaya should be like Julianne and judge her former partner harder as Jules did with Derek.
I’m pumped for Disney week, sans Zendaya. It’s my night off and I can relax and enjoy the entire show 🙂
I am disappointed that Sharna and Antonio don’t have the Star Wars theme song (I would think they would jump on the craze), that Keo and Jodie didn’t have the Circle of Life (it’s cliche but it would have a cute nod to his heritage) and that Tony and Marla didn’t have “Bella Note” (she screams “elegance” to me).
But I’m glad that Nyle and Peta got Tarzan. I hope it’s on Strangers Like Me.
Also, I’m pretty sure that Zendaya’s song Neverland is not a Disney song, it’s from Finding Neverland: The musical. So I doubt anyone will dance to it, but who knows?
Whoever pointed out “Be Prepared” from Lion King is so right. I think a tango would be awesome to this song. Unique beats like that can make one stretch their creativity in unique ways. Choreographing one in my head right now.
I love that song and would love to see something rather edgy from Wanye. Maybe a male villain in a dance this season, instead of a female villan like Ursula.
Also, I would love a samba to “Prince Ali” from Aladdin.
I’m actually excited to see Zendaya as a judge. I think she’ll bring a fresh. youthful perspective to the panel…more so on performance value and portraying the character in the dance rather than actual technical value.
Also, excited for Usher if that is true. He’ll probably comment on production, dance exuberance, and performance value also. No ballroom technique, I think so.
Would love to see Cheryl come back as the 3rd guest judge. I honestly believe the guest judges are fed notes/comments from TPTB, anyways. I think that TPTB either choose the guest judges score or the comments..or both..gasp.
I’m expecting lots of 9s and 10s from the guest judges…unless its Cheryl, who would be the only true qualified guest judge like Julianne.
Thanks for catching that Kelly! Yes, I meant that Julianne judged Derek and his partner harder than the others because Derek is her “fam”, but only in the good sense of the word. Wouldn’t it be nice if Zandaya did the same with her “fam”?!?
Courtney, do they have to reacquire the rights to song if they used it before on another Disney week? Or can they use it multiple times?
So far, I like the songs that have been picked. I’m a big Disney fan. Hopefully the pros can make good dances with these songs.
@Chloe I have this feeling that Neverland will be used as the opening number.
I didn’t watch S16. I’ve only seen certain dances on YouTube so I will probably be fairly undecided on Zendaya before the show starts. That being said, if she is totally a FAM over scorer I am going to get pissed. Thus far the only FAM member who has impressed me all season is PETA.
I agree with a lot of comments on pure about ginger and this Monday’s choreo. It was just boring to me. And I felt like it was trying to use Derek and Bindi’s as a template. No mas por favor.
I feel the same way about Sharna all season BUT I hope she can really do a cool number with Antonio. Jazz is pretty much free reign IMO so with his energy this may be a break through week
Does anyone know if they are going to have a Zendaya opening number? Like they did in S18 (not sure which season) where they introduced Julianne and then the judges on stage and it was super awkward ?
I think if they do an opening number with Zendaya, then she might dance alongside the pros, since she was a contestant on the show.
Hit enter too soon. She might also dance since she is a dancer alongside a singer and actress. Whatever they decide to do, I hope it’s as graceful yet fun as the past two Disney night openings!
The only thing I remember from Zendaya’s freestyle was Val’s impromptu lecture to “all the parents out there.” This from the man who refused to take down a disparaging/embarrassing photo of a child that he posted, when requested to by the child’s parents. I will not enjoy watching/listening to Zendaya.
I can hear a repeat of those imfamous words from last season’s “guest judge” – “Just because I can”. Impartial judging according to the fam!
Based on Val and Ginger’s song, she’ll either have her first ballroom dance or they have Jazz. Hopefully they’ll have a foxtrot!
Maybe Zendaya will do something to her song “Neverland” from Finding Neverland The Album, for an opening?
Also, Derek’s at Disney right now with his nephews I believe! How fun…makes me wanna go get my Disney ears on!
Just realized that not only did Sharna get Aladdin again, but Val got Beauty and the Beast again. That is probably my favorite dance of his ever, so not really complaining – and definitely not complaining about using the same movies/songs – just find it interesting that the same pros got them.
I’m a Zendaya fan and have follow her years. So please do not hate on her beening a judge until after the show. But I will say she will be a fair judge and will be much harder on Val
@Carol – Nobody is “hating” on Zendaya, and I find that term childish – it’s also rather childish to not let others be entitled to their opinion. Not everybody is going to like her – not your job to go around asking people to “not hate” on her. And unless you’re clairvoyant, you do not know for a fact that she will be “a fair judge and will be much harder on Val”. Let’s avoid stating personal opinions as fact.
“Bonjour” is a weird song. Would’ve rather seen a Foxtrot or Waltz to “Tale as Old as Time”.
Not sure what dance style fits it. I guess Foxtrot? If they give Ginger and Val Jazz right after Contemporary I might stab my television.
I’m indifferent on Zendaya- She wasn’t my favorite her season, but I liked her and her partnership with Val well enough. In general, though, I hate past contestants as judges. I can’t think of a single past contestant (even ones like Alfonso that I loved as competitors) who added anything substantial to the judging. Four judges means less time spent dancing. If they have to have a fourth judge, I strongly prefer someone with ballroom dancing background, and not just a celebrity with something to promote.
Two things:
1) It’s called Belle, NOT Bonjour.
2) It’s called Beauty and the Beast, NOT Tale as Old as Time.
I’m very “meh” on Ginger & Val but I’m so excited for their dance! (and I love that song too!) I love Beauty & The Beast so I’m just happy someone’s going to dance to that movie.
I’m not too excited about “Friend Like Me” being used again. Only because I still think Shawn & Mark’s version was so good. Plus, I can’t imagine Antonio getting really animated (without looking forced like last week). I think Sharna should’ve waited to use Antonio Jr for this dance instead of the Foxtrot. It would be so cute to see Antonio and his son dance to this song!
Super shocked that the show got “Circle of Life” from The Lion King. I’m really looking forward to what Lindsay has up her sleeve for this dance.
As far as Zendaya as the guest judge… I’m not too thrilled because I’m predicting she’s not going to bring much to the judging panel (like almost all past celeb guest judges). Just a lot of “that was so good!”, “good for you!”, “you nailed it!” kind of remarks.
Remember it might be a good thing that Wanye and Lindsey have a samba to a nonconventional samba song. It gives them the chance to re-do a samba later on in the finale, if they make it, which I strongly think they will.
@Bia – In my defense, I’ve never even seen Beauty and the Beast 😛 I just know some of the songs.
“Circle of Life” for a Samba? I’m not sure how that would even look like. The song is pretty slow.. I guess if Val managed to make “Poor Unfortunate Souls” somewhat of a Samba, Lindsay can do the same with this one. Just hoping Wanya is in a full lion costume on monday night 😀 Mane, tail and everything!
Guessing Von and Witney may have “A Dream is a Wish your Heart Makes”. Sounds the most fitting for a V-Waltz. I’ve been very impressed with Von’s lightness on his feet so this may end up being his best dance if done right.
Von & Witney just did a 2 minute “live” Facebook video (on his page) with a sneak peek of some of their Vieneese Waltz moves. 🙂
I can kinda see parts of the Circle of Life as a samba, but it would make a much better contemporary
Different Tony from the one above here…
I’m always a sucker for Disney Night and while I do wish for some new songs every time, I do understand the legal and monetary restrictions that come with this particular theme night. I still look forward to it, none the less. 🙂
I’m gonna go ahead and guess that Nyle’s got Trashin’ the Camp. That’s the only song I’m aware of from Tarzan that could fit the samba. And if that is his song, I’m going to be excited for it, as that’s my favorite song from Tarzan.
Thanks so much to the Angels for keeping us updated!!!!
@tony I’m guessing Trashing the Camp too. I find it’s a rather underrated Tarzan song. Wonder if they’ll use the movie or nsync version
That’s a great song for ginger and Val. Funny story that song drives my cousin insane and since I was like 3 or 4 we all just randomly break into song sometimes just to see her squirm…..gotta love the benefits of a large Italian family that knows what buttons to push on each other lol. Anyways, I’m trying to remeber the song from Cinderella but it’s probably the one that is right after she gets to the party and the price is like “let’s dance” then the clock strikes and we’ll all the rest of the stuff happens. I hate that damn movie but my sister loves it so I know it well.
I’m going to go out on a limb and say that Von and Witney’s song is “So This Is Love” – it might be a bit slow for a Viennese Waltz, though I don’t quite know what the difference is, but it could work!
I wonder if they’ll use a sped up version of You Got a Friend in Me, like the spanish-ish one. And i’m excited to see Wanya and Lindsay’s dance! We did Lion King in camp two years ago, so I actually got to learn the real words in Circle of Life in case anyone wants to know them…
Von and Witney could also have A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes. #Aviva Amy and Derek used So This is Love and it was one of their best dances (in my opinion).
Bia, you correcting CC NY could have been more diplomatic. It read as a tad bitchy.
Can’t wait to see Val as Gaston. Talk about type casting LOL
Witney should be gorgeous as Cinderella but yeah the idea of Von as a waltzing Prince Charming is well amusing to say the least.
I actually think Try Everything is a good song for Jodie and Keo and they could definitely pull off a Judy and Nick vibe.
Samba is going to be hard to do to Circle of Life. Though the beginning part (before the chorus) might work.
Anyway I’m liking all these songs and hoping everyone ups their game as Disney Night is my favorite theme and I want to see some good stuff.
@Courtney I remember the jive in sneakers and how odd it looked. It ended up bein more like hip-hop with kicks and flicks. I may be wrong, but didn’t she dance most of the season in flats or character shoes because of that weird height problem with Val when she wore heels? I mean, that can be worked around, but it didn’t seem like they tried very hard to do it, considering that Mark pulled it off in a similar circumstance with Sadie a couple of seasons later.
Also, on Zendaya judging, could her revealing on Ellen that she was cast in the next Spider-Man movie have influenced this? It’s clear to me that she’s still on an upward fame trajectory, and if she does well in Spider-Man, ABC/Disney may never get a chance to get her back on DWTS again.
“La Valse de L’Amour” from Cinderella (2015) is also very fitting for a Viennese Waltz. Kinda hoping they do that one instead.. that scene of Lily James dancing with Prince Charming in the movie was gorgeous. I’m still upset this movie didn’t win any Oscars…
Also, Witney is gonna make a BEAUTIFUL Cinderella.
Excited for Disney Night as always! Am I the only one who’s relieved that so far it looks like all the songs are from the animated movies? I have nothing against the live action ones but I so prefer the animated movies’ songs, at least most of them.
Also, can Nyle only wear a loincloth or maybe nothing at all, for, you know, authenticity?
Well Daniel, there is a Mary Poppins song in there, but I guess 9/10 ain’t bad. 😉 Was hoping it’d be “Feed the Birds” or “Chim Chim Cher-ee” but I guess “Spoonful of Sugar”is good for a Jazz routine.
Also PETA AND NYLE ARE ACTUALLY DOING “TRASHIN’ THE CAMP” AND I AM SO EXCITED!
The only ones I’m a little disappointed by are “Friend Like Me” and “I Wanna Be Like You” just because they’re being re-used, but I think with the Aladdin song for a Jazz number this could be a breakout week for Antonio.
I’d be excited about the opening number if Derek was choregraphing it. What is bump and grind Mandy going to come up with?
I think some of the songs are being reused since there was a Disney album released late last year with pop/country stars covering classic Disney songs, which is where some of the odd song choices come in.
Linz (#111), So true. Derek would come up with something utterly spectacular. As for good ol’ Mandy, she’ll come up with a nice, *wholesome* Disney bump and grind of course! 😛 Ugh, I can hardly wait.
Kim and Sasha are dancing to I wanna be like you. Why aren’t they dancing to bear necessities? But I guess you have fix the post Court ( or whoever)
So excited for a Spoon Full of Sugar! wohooo
Got it. Thanks Zoe!!!
A Spoon Full of Sugar from Mary Poppins is the perfect song for Doug and Karina. And I’m so old… that I actually remember seeing the original Mary Poppins in the movies when it first came out… decades ago.
While I’m fairly confident that Wanya has the moves for the Samba I’m not really sure how the song will work. Oh well, I have faith in Lindsay’s choreography that she can work her magic once again.
@Daniel – While Nyle doing a song from Tarzan is the perfect fit for him. I’m not sure that the producers will go for the authenticity angle.
@Sandy Fox’s Glee put the boys in loincloths for one number 3 years ago so I definitely wouldn’t be surprised if Nyle dons one for DWTS.
Antonio did a live feed of his rehearsal for an hour on Facebook – and they are using children in their routine.
Love Paige and Mark’s song but does anyone else find it too slow for a quickstep? Like all I imagine is a foxtrot to that song.
I’m guessing Nyle will wear something simmilar to what Mark wore as Adam in his and Sadie’s Adam and Eve Contemporary.
I can’t wait to see Paige and Mark, Nyle and Peta, and Antonio and Sharna because I love that song from Aladdin. Unfortunately, I feel like Marla and Tony will leave tomorrow night on a high note from a classy waltz.
Angela, they will probably be dancing to a different version to the song. I keep hearing about a Spanish version or something like that.
Thrilling news about Paige and Mark!
Oh my God… I’m so happy 🙂 I know it may be dumb to be getting all excited for running orders but I was REALLY fearing they would make Paige open the show. I just didn’t want her to get lost in the shuffle specially on Disney Night. A Quickstep is usually a good dance for them to open the show with so I figured they’d go with Paige opening the show.
Now my money is on either Antonio, Wanya or Nyle goig first. Maybe more so Antonio or Nyle.
I’m so glad that Paige is going last as well. It’s about time!! They must have a really good routine. And I think you are right about the votes, Courtney. Her routines have been standing out lately so I think the memorable routines are bringing in votes.
@Tina – Paige has been slaying her dances, but I think it’s probably fortunate for her that the NFL stars really haven’t been making a huge splash…hell, I think that’s actually a lucky thing for Wanya & Nyle as well. All three are great dancers, but I think if the NFL stars were making a better showing, all three would run the risk of fading into the woodwork compared to the NFL hype. I think Paige has gained some fans that may have otherwise voted for one of the footballers…good for her 🙂
The NFL stars have been quite disappointing in comparison to a few others. It’s really interesting because it looks like Von is there to have a good time, but isn’t taking the whole thing super-seriously, and Antonio seems more concerned with his on-camera image than he is actually learning how to dance.
Paige has done well in her dances and I think her personality and dancing well, coupled with the NFL guys not really doing well, has helped. I think the other factor is that she just has that “it” factor, whatever that may be.
Back when she first debuted in the UFC, despite being young in the sport and just making her debut, Dana White compared her to Ronda Rousey, not in fighting ability, but in the fact that both have that it factor that can transcend just the sport. I think you’re seeing that now.
The UFC has been giving her a fair amount of coverage, plus there were UFC/MMA people at the show on Monday to support her. I have no idea if any of it is translating to votes but at least it’s nice that her experience here is being embraced. I think she does a weekly DWTS recap on some sports related media.
I’m really happy about Paige. I agree about the “it.” You gotta love a fighter who comes to DWTS to proudly get all girly.
Paige is quite marketable from a UFC standpoint. She was actually the only non-champion to be offered an endorsement deal with Reebok when they decided to make “uniforms.” That says all you need to know.
I only saw two UFC people so far at DWTS that I could make out. I know Urijah Faber who’s her coach at Team Alpha Male in Sacramento has been there twice, and I think he brought a couple of her teammates down, too. The other one was Chuck Liddell who’s been retired but heard, he’s still living in San Luis Obispo.
I’m very glad that Paige and Mark have a great running order this week. However, I’m going to try to not get too excited or get my expectations too high for them, since the last dance can, but not necessarily be the best or highest scoring dance of the night.
So Zendaya is Guestjudge this week and Maks is Guestjudge next week (Switch Up week), how nice for Val… (Now I also get why Mark and Paige wanted Paige to get Val for Switch Up week since Maks gave Bindi a 10 just because she was dancing with Val)
Val’s best dance is also the rumba, so that explains why she’s been pushing that on twitter for the switch up. With Maks as judge, pairing her with Val AND giving her the rumba would be guaranteeing high scores.
Also Mark and Val are good friends so it might be rooted in that, since Derek isn’t around.
Er, say what you want about how likely Maks is to be biased toward Val…but Bindi earned every 10 she got, Geri. She was GOOD.
PH, Bindi was AMAZING, but her Cha Cha with Val was a 9 to me and all the other judges and I think normally it would have been a 9 for Maks too…
Court, thanks for the news that Paige and Mark look to be dancing last tonight. Fingers crossed it means what we hope it means in terms of her voting totals. 😀
And Antonio/Sharna had a rough week in practice?! Yikes. Trainwreck, anyone? His dancing has been marginal already so I can’t imagine how lackluster they’re going to be with even more limited practice time.
Sharna is definitely dressing as Jasmine *again*. Don’t get me wrong she looked great in season 20 but I was hoping that she’d be the Genie, since that’s who is in the song and it’d be a refreshing take. This feels like a too-soon retread. But DWTS seems to never pass up an opportunity for sexpot Disney cosplay.
Yeah, Paige is probably getting the votes.
Hopefully Wanya and Lindsay will land the pimp spot next week. They are just a delightful mix of happy and fun.
And while I love Paige and Mark, quickstep is probably my least dance style of them all. I would much rather them close the show with a different blow your socks off – style of dance. Just my opinion though.
Well, Paige mentioned them getting “rowdy.” I think it will be great fun.
Kinda odd that there are some clips of their dances floating around online. Well, I only saw two clips of Antonio and Sharna’s dance. It looks like the actual production. Maybe its the prefilmed segment with characters on it? not sure… But, isn’t there some kind of rule about that?
I remember CAI saying in her periscope the judges aren’t allowed to see the dances before hand like rehearsals…but CAI can just find the clips at #dwts.
I’m guessing that Antonio isn’t going to view Disney week as “magical” lol. Maybe this could be what makes him work a little harder or provide sharna with a wake up call of sorts. I forgot about her dressing up as jasmine before. I had high hopes for this pairing but so far they haven’t really wowed me outside of last week and that only wowed me becuase he let himself be himself and not so overly confident.
Hit submit too early: I’m hoping that Kim and Sasha are towards the end of the show too. Other than Antonio and sharna, I’m a little worried about Von and witney as well. Her past Disney week dances haven’t exactly been great.
George P. just tweeted the entire running order of the night.
It’s interesting that Wanya has gone nearly last the past three weeks. (Third to last, second to last and once again second to last this week). Then again, his dances are definitely worthy of that. I expect his Samba to be pretty amazing.
Poor Marla, Doug and Kim all got pretty bad running orders this week (2nd, 4th & 5th) :/ I was hoping Kim would go mid-second half. Same with Marla. As if they weren’t already fading into the woodwork enough…
My picks for top of the leaderboard are Paige, Ginger (eye roll) or Wanya. I think Doug or Antonio might end up being at the bottom this week.
I wonder if Von and Witney and/or Wanya and Lindsay have simple sets and that’s why they’re near Ginger – her set looks pretty freaking complicated from Tom’s instagram post. I also wonder if Nyle was put in the first half to kind of liven up an otherwise weak first hour.
Aviva – Set design and dance styles also play a part in placement.
Kim’s running order is actually not bad at all – top of the second hour is pretty good and she should land there, too, provided the screw around at the beginning of the show.
