DWTS Jodie Sweetin Taken To Hospital By Ambulance, Hurt At Rehearsals
People is reporting Jodie Sweetin has an ankle injury and had to go to the hospital today from rehearsals. Let’s hope she’s going to be ok.
An injury has at least temporarily sidelined Jodie Sweetin from Dancing with the Stars.
The Fuller House star was taken from rehearsal to a Los Angeles hospital with an ankle injury, a source confirms to PEOPLE.
It is not yet clear if this injury will keep Sweetin, 34, from performing on next Monday’s show, which will air at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
ETA: Here’s an update on Jodie from GMA. Thanks to Al for recording…
ETA2: Poor Jody. Now she got hit in the nose or mouth, but, wow what a beautiful move she and Keo were working on.
Hmmmm…we had heard from a source that Jodie actually twisted her ankle while rehearsing w/Val last week. Maybe this is a reaggravation of that injury?
I’m wondering if her ankle was weakened from last week and then she tried to do too much too soon in trying to recreate the “Try” performance and made it worse.
Given the demands of their routine AND the fact it was already weak from having twisted it I can’t say I’m surprised. Hope it is just a minor injury. Wishing Jodie (and Keo) the best.
Umm, didn’t Meryl hurt her ankle or foot while having Val as her switch up partner?
I hope she’s able to still compete. I hate to see anyone go out because of injury.
Susan2 I think she broke her toe? Val’s partners have a history with injury don’t they?
I think Bindi actually hurt something last season too, but it wasn’t enough to slow that girl down.
i don’t think an alligator bite could’ve slowed Bindi down 😛
poor Jodie.. I hope she’s gets better and this doesn’t turn out to be anything major. i still feel like we haven’t seen the best of what she can do, sadly. would hate to see her have to withdraw.
@PH – Bindi hurt her foot when she had to learn Quickstep in two days in Week 3. I don’t know of/remember any Val-related injuries other than the fact that her foot was still healing during the switch-up.
Oh, poor Jodie. 🙁 I was hoping that strong, confidence-building performance on Monday would be the start of something good for her, and now this happens. Fingers crossed it’s something she can dance with and that it doesn’t mess with her head.
Oh my goodness, an ambulance?
Danica injured her ribs with Val, but Amy hurt her neck? Shoulder? With Derek. Meryl broke a couple of toes….Alfonsio and Robert had pretty bad back injuries…..not sure if the pro is to blame.
I think Bimid had really bad blisters amd early on she had an ankle injury…
Injuries are just part of it unfortunately……hope she’s okay.
Something happened the week Bindi was dancing with Val, Sonic….can’t remember what, now though.
Nice try Jill. Congrats on missing the point. Again.
Hi guys. So meryl broke two toes with val, janel hurt her rib with val i think finals week actually remember the vid of her freaking out and crying, danica broke her rib, and now i guess jodie twisted her ankle with val. Val cool it, dont be so aggressive with your partners!
I really hope it isn’t something serious! I’m thinking though the legal team or the insurance company might have initiated stricter rules after the Tamar situation last season.
@PH #12 – My memory is certainly not infallible, but the only thing I can think of that happened when Bindi was with Val was him being mean to her and getting called a d-bag by a producer for it. I could be wrong, but that’s all I’ve got.
You might be right, Sonic.
Im just going to guess that this is going to make the video package now. Hope she gets better.
Lea Thompson hurt her ribs as well dancing in the switchup with Val. It’s not a positive charge sheet is it in regards to his partners getting injured from switch up or during normal competition. He even managed to drop Julianne on her head.
Didn’t Rumer cry at one of their rehearsals bc Val dipped her so violently that her neck snapped back?
Wow things don’t look to good for Val, do they?
I remember him dropping Julianne in that rehearsal, it looked painful and Tom’s comment of ‘see how they’re treating the person whose now judging them!’
Sorry that was posted twice ?
Ok so we have:
1.) kelly monaco being dropped in rehearsal-remember guys?
2.) julianne-getting dropped or almost getting dropped
3.) rumer-neck injury
4.) lea thompson-rib injury
5.) meryl-two broken toes
6.) danica-broken rib
7.) janel-bruised rib
8.) jodie-twisted ankle
Im trying to remember if anyone else has gotten lots of injuries. But ive only been around since season 18 so cant contribute much. :/ i dont think val means it but hes very intense and hyper focused. Im guessing thsts why that happens
Yes Shim It was part of their package that week Rumer’s exact words when it happened were “You _________ whacked me so hard” Like Jeny said I don’t think he does it on purpose but his dances are rather aggressive and he definitely has a track record for partner injuries. He really needs to tone it down!
He very nearly dropped her during the live show as well. Which is why it’s always rather hysterical that his fans grab on so hard to Derek’s arms shaking at bit during the overhead lift with Bindi – a far harder move, and he pulled it off during the live show.
Post updated!
Yowza! That looked like it hurt! I hope she doesn’t overdo and risk a worse injury! But I’m sure the show’s doctors (and lawyers) will be all over that!
Not to be nasty, but the show loves to milk the “will she or won’t she dance” angle; on the other hand she was in the pimp spot last week! Whatever shall they do?
To me that move looks a lot like what Shawn and Derek did at the beginning of their freestyle, but of course, Derek was supporting Shawn’s weight, not the other way around.
Now I’m worried! Her face looked like it was serious!!
My question is, why in the world was she supporting Keo instead of the other way around!!
Ouch! Poor Jodie and agree, why was Jodie supporting Keo? As for the show protecting her from further injury, just look at Tamar. There is a sick part of me that thinks they would’ve loved the drama if she collapsed on stage…..ratings are everything to them.
There are some women who could do that move…I just never got the impression that Jodie was one of them. That’s…weird.
Yikes!! That looked painful! I hope it’s not as bad as it looks.
As for why she was supporting him, they were trying to replicate a move from the music video (it’s at the 2:43 mark if anyone wants to check it out). As soon as I saw the hint of what they were doing, I knew it was a bad idea. The show should never have put her in that position. 🙁
#a7 PH – I’m sure Courtney remembers the incident! She had to go private on twitter because of the crap she was getting. And all Court did was relay a message from DT where DT made a “comment” about Val. Don’t kill the messenger!
In Pink’s video the two of them are mostly about the same size. Keo is a big, big guy, and I unfortunately think doing this particular move was probably his boneheaded idea. It’s in a way kind of what you’re going to get when your “dance” is about domestic violence..
Ouch poor Jodie. I hope she gets better asap. That was one of the coolest moves in the video and if her ankle wasnt already injured, they may have been able to pull it off who knows?
Gosh it is so risky though. I just hope she does not have to withdraw cause that’d be unfortunate
PH Have scores and votes ever been put together for more than 2 weeks? If Jodie leaves and there’s no elimination, it will be 3 weeks of scores and votes determining the next elimination.
Yikes, this sucks. I have seen a similar reaction out of someone when they tore their Achilles. That doesn’t mean this is what happened – but bringing her to the hospital in an ambulance doesn’t bode well, unless it was a twinge of extreme nerve pain and the hospital trip was just precautionary. I hope she’s okay.
Well, in many finales there are three or four dance scores combined, so yes, it happens a lot, but usually when the scores are tighter and it’s more determined by the audience vote because of that. There’s probably more. I’ll look later if I remember.
YIKES! My heart holds out hope and wishes her well either way but my gut says it’s Achilles she’s out.
Yeah, this wasn’t a good idea. I doubt Jodie has the physical strength for a move like that even without the height/weight difference. Of this season’s female celebs, Paige is probably the only one who could pull off a move like that.
Figamentation & Wynn…it looks like an achilles or peroneal tear to me as well. Ankle tears are painful but she looks doubled over in pain, so much so that she cannot conceal it. My heart goes out to her.
I have to say, iconic dances does not mean copied step by step. Keo could have easily switched places with Jodie to achieve the same effect.
Just checked my emails and saw this headline. I said..Oh no!! Watched the video several times and it looked like Keo came down on Jodie’s left ankle. If she hurt that in practice with Val last week, no wonder she screamed in pain. So sad to see this happen to her. I agree that Paige is physically tougher and could do it. Hoping and praying it isn’t as bad as it seems and Jodie can continue.
Nice observation, KreativeKat. Upon further review, I think she was already wincing in pain it is when Keo went all down that she grabbed and squealed. I wouldn’t recommend even Paige try that with Keo, especially if she had tweaked her ankle the weak prior. Ugh, it sucks when people get injured.
@wynn…
I can’t believe if Jodie was having discomfort from that ankle before doing this that Keo would even think about trying this unless of course Jodie kept it to herself. I agree with you about Paige not trying it with Keo. He just isn’t experienced enough as a teacher to do this stuff.
Didn’t Shawn and Derek do this move in their freestyle? It was how they started the dance. Except that Derek was supporting Shawn
@Shim…
Yes, you are correct. Shawn and Derek did that same move, only Derek was in Jodie’s place and Shawn was in Keo place. Why would Keo be the one being lifted like that instead of Jodie? I am really feeling for Jodie right now. Oh, Derek where are you when we need you so?? (just kidding)!!
Oh wow that looks quite painful! ? like a current of electrifying pain all of a sudden. I’m not entirely familiar with this move, but I have seen it before. Is it normal for Keo to be on the inside, or should Jodie have been? It looked safer.
So weird that Courtney and others mentioned that. I read this on tmz when it came out and it just crossed my mind for a sec…maybe Val pushed her TOOO hard and it’s a flare up…but then I shushed my inner thoughts.
But, wow haven’t realized how many past celebs had injuries with him. Out of all the pros during switch up, Val would be the least trustworthy one for me, If I was a celeb on the show.
Argh. I hope Jodie heals in time and makes it past Ginger and Val now. Nothing against Ginger, but I don’t wanna see another 50% performance, when it’s obvious she can be pushed and perform better.
And oh Keo…the jury is still out for me with him.
To be fair to Keo, it doesn’t look he’s choreographing the dance so it wasn’t his decision to recreate a move like that. However what I don’t understand is why they would entrust a routine like that to a celebrity with a pro that isn’t even trained in contemporary (as far as I’m aware). Surely Paige and Mark would have been more suited to a performance like this?
Why would you want to recreate this move with someone who is not an athletic performer with a crazy strong core like P!nk? She used to be a gymnast, Jodi isn’t (or at least I don’t think so)! No offense but wth Keo?
M8, it might not be Keo’s choreography, but he’s the pro. At the end of the day, the buck stops with him. He’s the one who’s responsible for his celeb partner; he should know her strengths and weaknesses better than anyone else. So he should have nixed it. However, maybe Jodie was determined to try it, in which case it becomes a bit more complicated.
To be fair to him Cidra, and I’m not one to defend Keo normally, but those people with him are the actual choreographers for the Pink performance. Surely TPTB would have personally gone above Keo and brought them on board to chorograph/teach them the routine especially as Keo will probably have enough trouble dancing the contemporary himself let alone having to choreograph as well. They’ll be getting paid good money to do it as well. This just smacks of TPTB going above Keo and taking control of the performance leaving Keo and Jodie to both learn it together.. Remember Keo is still very inexperienced he’s hardly going to stand up to TPTB and say no we’re not doing this choreography or this move. He could get in big trouble especially considering the trouble TPTB have obviously gone to getting these people in. Like Chloe said, Pink was a gymnast with dance training who performed it with a professional contemporary dancer. Jodie and Keo are the wrong couple for this. Out of all the remaining couples the only ones suitable IMO will have been Paige and Mark.
Ah, well, if those are the choreographers for Pink’s performance, then I’ll have to back off Keo. He probably doesn’t have the standing in the DWTS heirarchy to push back if TPTB brought them in to do the choreo and make it “memorable”. However, it doesn’t speak very highly of them if they felt this couple could manage a move like that.
I agree about Paige and Mark. As I said earlier, I think Paige is the only female celeb this season with the physical strength and balance to pull this off with either Mark or Sasha (of this season’s pros).
Isn’t Mandy Moore some sort of director and producer, she should know who could handle this dance. Agree Keo has no real authority here, but she does and she has the background and experience to make a way better call than assigning this dance to this pair.
Just thinking out loud but maybe they had planned on Mark and Paige doing Pink’s Try back hen they put these elaborate plans in motion but switched the pair because of Mark’s back injury.
I agree with Colleen, they probably initially planned it for Paige but Mark’s back injury changed their plans.
It was a totally bad idea to give it to Jodie and her unexperienced pro though. Ginger was on her dance team in college and Val is way more experienced than Keo but Val’s partners always get basic Jazz for Famous Dances Week…
Sorry, but I’m gonna have to put the kibosh on that theory – Mark had already requested a specific iconic dance for this week, it had gotten cleared, and he had choreographed an entire routine to it, then the artist asked them not to do it. I don’t think “Try” was meant for Paige & Mark – they had another dance from the get-go.
Wonder why the artist would ask it not to be performed? If anything, it’s publicity 🙂
@Renee – Not sure, but even though DWTS was completely legally cleared to use the song & dance, they agreed not to use it in order to preserve their relationship with the artist. And the artist is someone DWTS probably has a vested interest in maintaining a relationship with.
Awww what a rough week for Jodie. I believe the nose thing happened earlier in the week before the foot injury but either way two injuries in the same week can’t be fun. 🙁
Poor Jodie! I hope she will be okay, I feel like maybe keo should have lifted her instead of her lifting him cause he has more strength.
Ooh the suspense is kiling me hehe.
I love the behind the scenes tid bits of info…so thanks for that!
Maybe it was Bruno Mars or Beyonce? who knows…
Also, I wonder if they’ll have TV Night next week(s) and allow Mark and Paige to use the Jetsons Theme Song that Derek didn’t get to use last season with Bindi.
Fingers crossed!
Wow, Jodie is having the rehearsal week from hell! For her sake, I hope this will be a case of “lousy rehearsal, great performance”.
Wonder if Jodie and Keo are dancing or taking Mixed Martial Arts classes from Paige.. Yikes!
@EmnEm – I’m curious as to what theme they’ll have for week 7. Part of me thinks and wishes it’s “Classical Night” but I’m not sure they’ll give us that gift. “No Theme” night would be great too 🙂
I think it’s great they are trying the original move (when she is lifting him), because that was really iconic and this shows that Keo IS stepping up and pushing Jodie, because he knows she is capable of doing amazing moves. Besides I’m sure they wouldn’t do this move if Jodie wasn’t comfortable enough and agree to do it. I hope they pull this off because it will be awesome.
The video clip of rehearsal footage that still haunts me because it looked extremely serious. When Hines fell on Kym and she could be heard saying I can’t feel my arms. I thought for sure she was hurt badly. But, she did dance the Monday after that happened. But, wore a neck collar part of the time.
@CC NY: Oh how I miss thee! Classical Night was just PURE dancing to the music. I LOVED Hines and Kym’s paso to “Explosive.” It was so good I still have the song on my ipod.
Yes, I actually do wanna see no theme for once and just see how the night goes. It would be much more organic.
@Louis Troutman: That rehearsal package was SO emotional and scary and just goes to show how professional Kym was/is and how dedicated Hines was. Really miss their samba too to Earth Wind and Fire
DWTS is already losing in the number game/ratings big time, esp. this season with the lowest ever ratings.. So the producers gotta keep the show fun/fresh with exciting themes like Disney Night/Switch-up/Famous Dances Night etc.. or else no one would care to watch just ”pure Len kinda ballroom dancing” with no creativity & only content. The show will get canceled then.. 😛
Gotta give it to the producers for still keeping the show fun with exciting new themes & drama. People LOVE drama.. so good for the show 😉
PDS, FALSE! DWTS is not down in ratings if you take up away all the political campaigning stuff. In fact, the last I looked, DWTS was at #3 two weeks ago (taking away all the political stuff). Also, ratings have always down a little in the Spring.
