Derek Hough Blogs About DWTS Season 23, Week 3 – “I Wasn’t Upset”

Yeah, as we guessed, DWTS was making a mountain out of a molehill – no shocker there. Since Derek is actually a nice man, he doesn’t take any shots at anyone like others would be tempted to do. What sounds really great is the stuff he’s put together for Tuesday…and how many other DWTS pros scored an invite to Hollywood’s Night Under the Stars? šŸ˜‰ Ā I’ve put a couple excerpts below, but I suggest you read the whole thing at TV Guide – he’s very chatty this week. šŸ™‚

I want to clear the air about something: I know Marilu said in the clip on the results show that she thought I was upset with her, but I wasn’t. I wasn’t upset with her or about the scores. “Upset” is the wrong word. I was just bummed out because I just knew she could perform it better. Our dress rehearsal was better. I’m with her when she does it fantastically. I just want everyone to see that. I’m not disappointed in her. I’m not upset with her. I’m proud of her. I just want people to see how great she is. She loves the show so much and I want her to look her absolute best.

——

I’m also performing a results show number with the troupe and some outside dancers. It’s to a song I wrote with Lindsey Stirling, so we’re going to debut it! I just threw the routine together yesterday and hopefully it turns out good. I’m going to play the drums and I will be tapping and drumming against myself at one point. One of the dancers in it is Marie Poppins, who does a really cool section with Allison Holker with mirrors. I saw her do it on social media and there’s a piece in the music that has a similar vibe for it, so I called her up to ask if she could come do it. There’s also going to be some Argentine tango in there. It’s going to be a really cool performance. I’m very excited about it!

On Saturday, I’m going to be performing at the Motion Picture Fund. George Clooney’s hosting, Barbra Streisand’s performing, and Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway will be there too. I have no idea how I scored an invite! When I found out the other attendees, I was like, “Crap!” No pressure, right? The theme is Old Hollywood, so I’m going to do Singin’ in the Rain, which I’ve done before, and also an Argentine tango. I’m cheating a little bit, but I figured it was easiest to keep it in line with what I’m already doing this week. It should be a really fun night!

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Cheryl Burke On Her Experience So Far With Ryan Lochte And The Person He Really Is

Dancing With The Stars Cheryl Burke talked with The Charlotte Observer about Ryan Lochte and how she always loves a dance partner who is going through change or controversy because she likes to be able to affect their life more than just teaching them how to dance. I think she’s done just that, do you? Read on for how she’s gotten to know who he really is…

Q. So have you figured out who this guy really is?

Oh, for sure, and I think that what they show on the show is reality. The producers arenā€™t scripting this and telling him, ā€œMake sure youā€™re goofy this week.ā€ He is that person. After spending almost seven weeks now every single day together, I know that this is who he is: Heā€™s charming, heā€™s funny, heā€™s down to earth, he is a mamaā€™s boy, and he is a gentleman. He just wants to feel accepted again by everybody. …

(His experience in Rio) made him really grow up mentally and made him realize that, you know what? Not everything is gonna be a fairy tale, or not everythingā€™s gonna go your way, and you have to be prepared for the punches that are being thrown at you.

Q.How well do you think heā€™s been handling the pressure?

(After the incident with the protesters) his first thought was, ā€œI need to get out of here. I donā€™t want to be a part of this. I donā€™t want to affect someoneā€™s life. The show doesnā€™t deserve this, Cheryl doesnā€™t deserve this.ā€ He didnā€™t want be a burden. And then when we all rallied behind him and he felt the love from the other celebs and dancers on the show, he was like, ā€œOK, Iā€™m gonna stay.ā€ … This show is really intense, and itā€™s every single day. Youā€™re going out there, youā€™re doing something you donā€™t know how to do in front of millions of people on a live television show. I mean, that alone is so scary. But in a way, the fact that itā€™s so time-consuming has been good for Ryan because itā€™s distracting him from all the other stuff. Instead of reading about or Googling himself, heā€™s focusing on this.

And every time we get (mediocre scores) itā€™s making him stronger and itā€™s making him want to work harder. And every time that weā€™re out there and he is in jeopardy, in the bottom, he realizes heā€™s just got to step it up. This is not easy for him. He had zero dance experience. Heā€™s supposed to be underwater, and now heā€™s on land.

PureDWTS Angels Weigh In: Amber Rose Has a “Bone To Pick” With Julianne Hough

This news is blowing up all over. According to E Online, Amber Rose isn’t all too happy with Julianne Hough. On Amber’s recent podcast, she said she felt “body shamed” when Julianne said she “felt uncomfortable” during the grind on Dancing With The Stars this past week. Julianne also responded back to Amber. Below is more. Look for our thoughts afterwards. Be sure to tell us your thoughts too in comments.

E! News has the exclusive clip from Amber’s next episode of Play.it’s Loveline With Amber Rose where the co-host dishes on a recent experience with the blonde judge that rubbed her the wrong way.

Amber’s fellow host Dr. Chris Donaghue mentioned that he felt Julianne’s criticisms of Amber’s dance were unfair, to which she replied, “Last night was like, they did the commentary, and I, it was a point in the dance where I had to lift my leg up and Maks [Chmerkovskiy] dipped me & [Julianne] said, ā€˜Oh, I’m uncomfortable,’ and instantly I felt, I did feel body shamed.”

Amber added, “You know, all the beautiful professional dancers that are on Dancing With the Stars, I mean they dress very sexy and they do the splits and they grind up on these guys and they look absolutely stunning and get a standing ovation. And me, and my body, my hips, my ass, my breasts made her uncomfortable.”

Meanwhile, Julianne tells E! News exclusively, “To be clear, that was a produced package, not live coverage and they can put those sound bites anywhere. My ā€˜uncomfortable’ comment was about the fact that I felt like I wanted more out of the performance ā€“ when someone is doing a hot, sexy dance like that without the right amount of energy that is required, it can be uncomfortable to watch. ”

She continued, “Trust me I’m ALL for a sexy booty dance!! We all know that!! And any kind of body shaming goes against everything I believe in.”

More at E Online.

Our thoughts:

Vogue: When I first heard Julianne say she felt “uncomfortable”, I immediately thought same here since she wasn’t exactly doing a SALSA. Seriously, that dance was kind of a mess from the get go all over. It was like Maks couldn’t get her to do a Salsa, so, he just let her do whatever she wanted.

Miss Heidi:Ā I think AMBER was uncomfortable in that moment and she projected it on to Julianne. I didn’t for a moment think “body shaming” when I heard the comment, I thought she was uncomfortable with the style and content of the dance. Julianne was echoing what most people who read this site were saying about that dance and nowhere did I see criticism of Amber’s body. In fact, most of us think she’s a very beautiful woman…with some insecurities like we all have. Own the insecurity instead of projecting it on to other people. Ā And really, tell MAKS when you’re not comfortable doing something, because doing it when you’re not comfortable – TRULY not comfortable – will show on camera and make others feel the same. Honestly, the discomfort with that dance was that it was a bad dance. I felt the SAME discomfort in watching Maks and Val make idiots of themselves with that little scripted bit they did before their dance. Just dance, boys. And it had nothing to do with their bodies.
