Val Chmerkovskiy Looking Forward To A New Reintroduction Of Everyone And More On DWTS Week 2
Val Chmerkovskiy and Laurie Hernandez blog about Week one of Dancing With The Stars at US Weekly. They chat about the disappointment of the protestors interrupting the show, but, they loved their first dance. They also chat about their “Duck Tails” dance and more.
VC: Starting out season 23, I though that it was a great cast and a great show. And the ratings spoke for themselves, people were excited to watch us. It’s very unfortunate that the moment everyone spoke about the next day had nothing to do with our show or the 13 celebrities that put themselves through three weeks of hard work to get to the premiere. All the excitement was overshadowed by a couple of idiots doing stupid things.
But I am looking forward to kind of a new reintroduction to everyone next Monday, to be honest, a do over where we won’t have distractions from everyone who put in a lot of time and effort. It wasn’t fair to everyone. Next week, we’ll have a different type of show – I know we will. Unless someone’s protesting DuckTales being animal cruelty, I think we’ll be OK! It’s going to be a really fun show and bring everything back to the essence of DWTS.
To be completely honest – because this is an honest blog – I really wasn’t inspired by the song Laurie and I danced to last week! It didn’t really speak to me, it wasn’t something that I loved. So it was kind of a great performance to showcase Laurie, but moving forward, we’re doing music and dancing — especially this week — in a genre that really speaks to me – cartoons! It’s TV theme week and we’re dancing to DuckTales which is the greatest cartoon ever! I’m really excited about that! It speaks to me way more than “American Girl.” It’s crazy that Laurie’s so young – I don’t even want to talk about that, it makes me feel old that she didn’t know DuckTales!
LH: Val loves that show, but I don’t know too much about it! Don’t forget, I’m a 2000 baby! I’ve looked it up on YouTube, and I see that it’s about ducks. Val says they’re three nephews …
VC: They have an Uncle Scrooge …
LH: They have an uncle! The three little ducks are super adventurous. As far as cartoons go, I watched a lot of Ed, Edd, n Eddy when I was a kid.
VC: I don’t even know what that is! But the DuckTales song goes perfectly with jive. Anyway, Laurie did amazing on her first week out, but every dance will have its own special challenge, and music-wise, it’ll have its own personality.
Lots more at US Weekly.
Gee, Val wasn’t inspired. What a surprise. Despite having an ADORABLE, partner in Laurie, a FABULOUS job on DWTS and loyal fans…….
Adorable. Looking forward to next week!
Oh c’mon Val.. You don’t know Ed, Edd and Eddy?? One of my favorites and “Plank” is such an iconic character. Lol
Anyways, I’m looking forward to their dance.. I hope it’s true that Val is inspired and he choreographs something cute and fun(ny).
Looking forward to this. Val has choreographed some of my favourite jives on dwts so I have high hopes for this
My favorite thing about Laurie is how genuinely appreciative she seems the opportunity.
The tone between the two of them was a little telling to me. Laurie is just grateful to be given the chance. I also love how she had such sweet things to say about her competitors. Val definitely seems to have higher expectations/feel more pressure- he takes things so seriously sometimes, and I think it affects his ability to create. I wasn’t annoyed by the “inspired” comment- I’ve heard pros say that before about the music (I actually think Derek mentioned it in his blog this week.) What I will be annoyed by, however, if he uses it as an excuse for sub-par choreography.
I dont know what duck tales is and im 22. I know what ed edd and eddy is though!!!
I am feeling so old right now. Lol. I thought everyone was familiar with the adventures of Donald Duck’s 3 nephews Huey, Louie and Dewie. Hey Disney, you better get busy…you got an entire new generation that you nèed to engage. I am really looking forward to this.
Mods, is BuddyTV a legitimate site, or tabloid junk? They have an article, reposted by Yahoo, that claims Amber Rose has been saying that the show is rigged for Laurie to win.
That’s a tough one, JM. I think it’s a blog just like this one and I don’t know if they have sources or not. I don’t think I would call it a tabloid.
I would be surprised to hear MAKS’ partner saying the show is rigged for MAKS’ brother to win, I guess…but maybe she’s not been brainwashed by the Fam just yet. 😀
Thanks PH! I had never heard of BuddyTV before. I saw the story first at Yahoo Entertainment, which linked to BTV.
Or maybe Amber Rose has guts enough to says what she thinks, no matter who her partner is…based on the very little I know of her, she might.
I just read the Buddy TV article and a source says Amber thinks Laurie is being pimped for the win by DWTS because Laurie was given top billing plus she feels she and Maks will be made to look like the villans because both are outspoken and she is determined to not let that happen.
Kinda funny how Val said the Week 1 song “American Girl” that really suited Laurie didn’t speak to him but the Week 2 song that Laurie can’t relate to because Duck Tales doesn’t mean anything to her, really speaks to him because he loves Duck Tales.
Apparently, for Val, it’s all about *his* connection…
Val should’ve picked a more appropriate song that speaks to him. This song: “I’m too sexy for my shirt too sexy for my shirt so sexy it hurts. I’m too sexy for your party, too sexy for your party, no way I’m disco dancing…” oh wait, didn’t he and Rumer dance to disco? 8D
Well, I’d say Amber is a pretty smart gal … if the Buddy TV story is true!
