DWTS Season 23, Week 7 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

My cynical side (which is more than a “side” at this point and more like 2 thirds), says that “Decades” week  is a cluster f@#k waiting to happen. I mean really, there are some craptastic decades for music and this is a show that has real trouble picking appropriate music when NOT limited to specific decades.

ETA: Running order is up.  Tentative on team dances – apparently Team Future went first in rehearsal, but George didn’t indicate whether they were also going first during the actual show.  Judging from the way the running order is set up, I’m guessing they end up calling Ryan, Marilu, Maureen, & Jana in jeopardy – two members of each team. -Court- Read more..

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

PureDWTS Season 23, Week 6 – Power Rankings

DISCLAIMER: As I write this, I am currently under the influence of some new migraine meds that have the unfortunate side effect of making me very, very foggy – if my struggle to find the word “paint can opener” the other day at Sherwin Williams was any indicator, I’m definitely experiencing some aphasia; additionally, the fact that I put a carton of coconut milk in my purse and put my iPhone in the refrigerator while putting away groceries yesterday probably points to some general absentmindedness.  So forgive me if the words don’t come as easily today as they usually do – I’m told this passes after about the two week mark, so fingers crossed…

…and perhaps it is the effects of the medication, or perhaps not, but I’m left feeling a bit unsure of what to make of last night’s show.  I guess I should have known by about the 20 minute mark that things had already gone completely off the rails – we had Pitbull prematurely scoring (and then being completely late scoring the rest of the night, and having a suspiciously hard time with those paddles), Erin making painfully obvious double entendres about Ryan’s “facials”, and Ryan trying to make black light paint a thing, but having it look more like sunburn art. Then there was that pinata that Erin was curiously insistent that everyone hit, but only appeared to be filled with glitter.  Go fig…but perhaps more peculiar was the scoring, which at times left me wondering what exactly the agenda really was.  Part of me thinks TPTB may be falling out of love with Laurie (or may at least be seeing that she may not actually be a sure thing for the win), they seem suddenly obsessed with Jana (after appearing to be rather lukewarm about her thus far this season), they seemed to very slightly ease up on their “underscore Calvin at all costs” edict of the past several weeks, they seemed to finally drop the hammer on Terra (after heaping sometimes over-the-top praise on her the first few weeks of the season), and they seem to kick their praise of James into overdrive (which even I, as a James fan, can agree was a bit too much).  Are they trying to shape their ideal finale? Or are they even taking it a step further, and shifting gears from gunning for a Laurie win…to gunning for a James win? I think it will be very, very interesting to see how things go once Len is back on the panel next week…when daddy’s away, the other three stooges seem to play; but when he’s back, they seem to get back to business.

Wish I could say I was sad to see Amber leave, but I got the impression that she really wasn’t having much fun anymore, and that she never really got comfortable being on the show – so I don’t think she was all that disappointed to go, either. I think Maks collected his paycheck and is happy to be back to being a stay-at-home-dad-to-be. I didn’t see too many fans outrageously upset, either – Amber’s exit was minimally disruptive. I’ll admit – at one point in the show, I told myself I wouldn’t be terribly disappointed if Jana left instead of Amber, but in the end, I guess I’m partially glad the former stayed, because I think Gleb is more of an asset to Marilu’s team dance than Maks ever would have been.  Speaking of which – if you haven’t yet, check out our team dance spoiler post, if for no other reason than to justify my waking up at 2 AM to reveal the teams 😛 Read more..

Lindsay Arnold Talks On Dancing With The Stars Week 6 With Calvin Johnson, Their New Dance, And More

Lindsay Arnold answers questions about Dancing With The Stars Week 6 at Entertainment Tonight. She talks of what it was like to be in the bottom three (that was just sad and so wrong). She also explains how they put their Argentine Tango together. Here’s a take on their new dance coming up…the Jive.

The competition is clearly heating up, and the leaderboard has changed quite drastically. Aside from social media, how do you and Calvin plan to get back on top?

We made a huge leap from last week, and we have the jive this week, which I think is going to be really fun for Calvin. He has been looking forward to doing this style since the beginning. The first few weeks we did a few basic jive steps and he liked it, I think because it’s similar to football in the way that there’s fast footwork, high energy — that’s like in his nature. The jive is also extremely hard and there’s a lot of technique that goes into it, so the biggest thing I want to do this week is grill him with his technique. I already know his performance level will be there, so I want him to look like a dancer. I want him to prove, like last night, that he can be the leading dancer.

I love these two. More at Entertainment Tonight.

PureDWTS Season 23 Week 6 – Media, Scores, And Interviews

What another great show last night on Dancing With The Stars. My three favorites this week were James & Sharna, Calvin & Lindsay, and Jana & Gleb. More on that later in Court’s new Power Ranking post. Below is some media and new interviews after the show, but, first, let’s review the scores. Also note that next week, is “Various Decades” week and the Team Dances (see this spoiler post for more info)….and Len Goodman will return to the judges’ table.

Jana & Gleb 40 (10, 10, 10, 10)
James & Sharna 38 (10, 9, 9, 10)
Calvin & Lindsay 37 (9, 10, 9, 9)
Laurie & Val 37 (9, 9, 9, 10)
Marilu & Derek 34 (8, 9, 9, 8)
Maureen & Artem 31 (8, 7, 8, 8)
Ryan & Cheryl 30 (7, 8, 8, 7)
Terra & Sasha 30 (7, 8, 8, 7)
Amber & Maks 28 (7, 7, 7, 7) Eliminated

From Glamour:

Backstage after the show, Amber admitted that she realistically didn’t expect to get much of anywhere on the show. “I didn’t think I was going to win; I didn’t think I was going to make it the first week. I didn’t think I was going to make it half-way! I came on and just tried.”

As much as the process wasn’t a walk in the park for Amber, she reiterated backstage that she’s bonded for life with her partner. “Me and Maks…we’re family forever.” That’s pretty major for someone who says she was blindsided by the realities of signing up for DWTS. “They told me I was going to do maybe two to three hours [of rehearsal] a couple days a week, no big deal. It became my life!” So what’s next for the model/spokeswoman? “I’m going to try and take a vacation…just go to the beach somewhere!”

In the other news, head judge Len Goodman will return next week, and we’ll be there to bring it all to you!

From Fox11:

After the show, Rose told FOX411 about her spat with Maks: “I think that’s just life. It’s a competition. He has been dancing for thirty years. I haven’t and sometimes it gets very frustrating and sh*t happens and you just get through it and me and Maks are family forever.

“Literally, after that we called each other and it was just like, ‘Oh, my God, we can never argue like that again. I f–ing love you.’ And then we just went in the next day and just practiced,” she said.

Maks downplayed his apparent anger in rehearsal, saying he was faking for the cameras: “I think I punched the wall or something. That was in fun just to see if [producers] would use it and they f*cking have. That’s amazing.”

Rose said she’d learned the show is, as she said on camera, HARD, and she would warn her close friend, Rob Kardashian’s galpal Chyna (now heavily pregnant), of that for the future: “If Chyna wants to do ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ I’ll be like, girl, ‘Listen, it is no joke and I’m about to tell you exactly what it’s going to be like because they lied to me before I got on here and told me I was going to do maybe, two, three hours a couple days a week, no big deal.’ And…it became my life.”

The beauty laughed backstage as she carried her dance shoes that she would throw them: “I’m going to ‘roof’ these b–ches!” And she planned to take a beach vacation with her little son soon.

Here’s some DWTS All Access coverage thanks to Stormy….
