Dancing with the Stars Season 23, Week 9 – LIVE BLOG!!

As always…

Site rules in are effect – don’t hit refresh every 2 minutes, make sure you’re not posting one-liners, etc. Thank you. 🙂 And Rosa, if you do your usual posting of multiple comments one right after the other, I’m going to delete you. Don’t do it.

Opening number was a bit of a non-event. :::shrug:::

I love Idina Menzel…but I loved her BEFORE Frozen. And I still love her in spite of it. 🙂

Redemption edit for Marilu – she’s going home. Of course, I wonder how much of this happened LAST week.

That was a pretty damn good Samba from Marilu! I saw one step that might have been a mistake, but it was tiny…and she was having fun

Now we’ll hear a bunch of BS about how she’s finally working with Derek blah blah blah…Wait, Idina! I love you!

And once again, Marilu doesn’t go to Erin and gets her scores right there. I call bullshit. The 9s were fair – don’t really know if that means she’s going home or not, since neither Ryan nor Maureen got good scores when they left.

Great dance from Calvin – very beautiful. And that song makes me weepy every time I hear it. Calvin is definitely a contender. Watch your backs James and Laurie.

Almost forgot my LOL to the Cat Calvin sans dance belt. LOL. Why are we getting the somber tone from Julianne like she doesn’t want to give him props??

Huh…long game is to get rid of Calvin.

Male singer on this bumper just murdered this song and not in a good way. WTF?

Never been a fan of the Wiz. Kinda bummed that James go it.

Think Jenna just screwed up. Is James the Joker or the Wizard? Did James just miss a step as well?

Those mistakes would get Marilu 8s. This should be interesting. I even heard Emma yell on All Access.

I thought I saw more than one issue (and one of them was Jenna’s), but maybe it was just me. snort.

Who’s the woman rubbing all over Derek back stage? Anyone?

Charleston doesn’t have the same impact with Terra, but Sasha is doing surprisingly well making it work for her. Fun dance! Oh god, CAI will call out lip syncing again.

Everybody getting the good scores tonight. Interesting. Hmmm…I don’t know what to think now. Terra and Marilu were the bottom queens.

Pardon the expression. 😉

Oh boo freakin’ hoo. Why are we crying, Jana? For Gleb or yourself?

Sorry, distracted by Derek kindly calling out the producers on All Access…a lot. Nicely. In a Derek way.

Is this dance kinda boring? I can’t focus on it.

Totally over scored. And if you all don’t ease up on hitting refresh and do better at commenting, I might open a vein.

Very good dance by Laurie – but then that’s no surprise is it? Seemed like she was too far away from Val at times and a tiny bit off balance.

Heh…Marilu gets 9s and is still at the bottom of the leader board. Maybe she ain’t going home? Who the hell knows?

Didn’t the men do then Paso moves last time there was a male duet? One that looks really similar to this one? Or were they joking in the package?

I was worried about the capes at first but they got it together. Great dance! I enjoyed it.

Ugh, getting glimpses of Laurie and Jana’s duet and I’m not looking forward to it. It looks like a standard contemporary.

LOL Marilu – naughty girl. 😉

Okay, that was the old style vaudeville show stopper! I loved it except for the part with Marilu’s legs and Terra’s body. But it was fun and funny and lot of crazy stuff in it. It was…happy. I can use happy on this election eve. When the world could end.

Give Terra and Marilu 9’s and they still end up way on the bottom…but with James. I guess Laurie and Jana need that save, eh?

Contemporary is so not special any more. That was chock full of cliche moves that Val got off the internet. Hands over mouths, the whole nine yards. I feel like I’ve seen the same contemporary dance about 20 times now.

It comes down to Jana and Marilu and they really got my hopes up. It’s okay if Marilu goes, she had a good run even with the bullshit packages. I’m much more pissed that they guaranteed Jana a spot in the finale AND made sure her fans voted hard by putting her in jeopardy. Hope Rob Wade is happy now – and I hope he’s seen the backside of Derek Hough. Derek certainly doesn’t need the work. Unlike some.

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Dancing With The Stars Is The Hardest Job Terra Jole Has Ever Had, But, Most Rewarding – New Blog

Dancing With The Stars Terra Jole writes that she feels great going into tonight’s show, However, it’s taken it’s toll of her physically. Here is more from People.

I feel really great going into tonight show, but the physical toll of the competition has definitely started to get to me.

I started on DWTS only three weeks after having a cesarean section. That probably wasn’t the smartest thing. I shouldn’t have done any cardio until eight weeks after giving birth, and two hernias have formed.

But we are so close to the finish line and instead of having the surgery now and hurting myself again, I’m waiting until the end of the competition. During rehearsals and the live show I’m having to wear a belly band or girdle to not injure myself any further. It’s tough and very risky — but it’s all worth it!

Being away from my newborn can be a little harder to justify, though. Not being able to spend a ton of time with her is the hardest things I’ve ever experienced.

I gave my daughter Penny so much of me in the start of her life and now her younger brother Grayson sees me in his dreams, basically. I’ve already missed his first smile and to make things worse, he won’t latch anymore. I usually am only able to get him to latch at night, but due to missing a night here or there, he now prefers the bottle.

It truly tugs at my heartstrings, but I keep telling myself this is for them. One day they will look back and hopefully feel that if Mama can do this, they too can do anything.

DWTS is the hardest job I’ve ever had — and probably the most rewarding at the same time. Not only are you tested physically, but emotionally as well.

DWTS Jana Kramer On Whether Or Not Gleb Savchenko Is Dancing Tonight – Blog, Rehearsal Video

Below is a video by People. You can see Jana and Gleb in rehearsals. Jana also has written a new blog here. Note that she is still unsure of Gleb is dancing tonight. Let’s hope so. More below and at the link.

Knowing that I may not do the dance with Gleb is devastating. I’m so used to the way Gleb dances, the way he moves, the way he teaches me. And now I’ve having to learn how to work with a completely different person: troupe member Alan Bersten.

None of that is to say that Alan isn’t amazing. He’s been fantastic jumping in and making me feel comfortable. The way he teaches and dances isn’t any better or worse than Gleb, he’s just different. Gleb is much more sharp because of his ballroom background, while Alan is more flowy.

To make things even more nerve-racking, it’s Monday and I still don’t know if I’ll be dancing with Gleb or Alan tonight. Alan has been working with me in the rehearsal room and in spare moments backstage, but if Gleb feels he can physically do the dance then he’ll get out there with me tonight.

But because of his injury, Gleb and I only rehearsed the dance at camera blocking rehearsal and it did not go as smoothly as I would have liked. And while I ultimately hope Gleb can dance with me, I’m a control freak and would rather just know definitively so I can stop running scenarios in my head.

We’re also slated to perform a second dance that teams us up with another couple: Val Chmerkovskiy and Laurie Hernandez.

I love working with them, but because of our travel schedules, Laurie and I have only rehearsed about two hours together this week. I have confidence that we’ll do great, but I’d feel a lot better if we’d had more time.

It helps that I also feel very connected to the song Laurie and I are dancing to. I’ve connected it to telling a story about domestic abuse and being trapped for so long but now being strong and breaking free.

Laurie Hernandez Previews Her New Dances For DWTS Week 9

Laurie Hernandez has written a new blog for US Weekly. She writes of her busy schedule. So much so, she didn’t start rehearsing for her new dances until Thursday last week. Here is more….

On Thursday I started rehearsal for this week. Our individual dance this week is an Argentine Tango – it’s Broadway week and we’re dancing to “Cell Block Tango” from Chicago, so that will be pretty cool. We’re also paired with Jana and Gleb for a dance and that’ll be a contemporary-ish freestyle, so that’s exciting. It’s pretty overwhelming to learn so many dances – we had to learn four last week! So I was relieved we got the jive for the dance-off because that’s the one we’re most comfortable with.

It’s crazy that we’re in week 9. I think the thing that hit me most was three couples getting a perfect score last week – it just shows how good everyone is and how much everyone is improving. And Ryan Lochte leaving was sad because we definitely bonded over the last few weeks. We didn’t even meet in Rio so we were excited to meet for the first time at Dancing — we bonded over the fact that we’re both Olympians.

More at US Weekly including her thought on everyone crying last week.
