DWTS Heather Morris And Maks Chmerkovksi Talk Of Dancing And Their Challenges
Here is Heather Morris and Maks hmerkovksiy talking on dancing and Dancing With The Stars in this new interview with Access Hollywood. They are starting their rehearsals tomorrow. Heather says she has a challenge since she doesn’t know anything about ballroom even though she’s a professional dancer. Hmmm. Listen in….
ETA: And another….
ETA2: Here is Val and Maks…
ETA3: And…

Man, I am having a really hard time warming up to her.
Ugh, I don’t even want to watch it because I’ll probably just get super annoyed hearing a professional dancer say: “It’s so hard for professional dancers to dance!!!”
Trust me. you will indeed get annoyed….and just with her attitude too.
Poor thing. Having to learn a new style other than the ones you’ve trained in for you WHOLE LIFE?!?!
This is the same narrative Maks and Val always prompt with their ringer partners – try to change the narrative and gain sympathy. Sadly, it works on too much of the audience. Perhaps some will wake up.
I think I would have a lot more respect if she and Maks owned the fact that they have an advantage but said that then they were taking that as a challenge to innovate and do more creative and challenging routines.
But my guess is that TPTB would never sign off on that kind of PR/branding.
Calling it now, she’ll be the shock elimination of the season. One of the men will join Normani and Simone in the final over her. Forget the dance experience, her attitude/personality in general puts me off and will many others.
Hold on! Let me tune up my violin!
I bet they fake some problems in rehearsals to make it seem difficult. You have to play some angle when you can’t showmance.
You said it all for me so well.
UGH! Talk about off-putting….I don’t know how it is possible for them to already be on my nerves.
I wouldn’t care who she was paired with, there is no way I’m voting for someone that basically has the same training as Hayley and Allison. It’s ridiculous. I’m especially put off by the fact that she says she doesn’t have an advantage.
The Hollywood Reporter says she is “the biggest ringer yet”.
Just based on this clip, I’m personally not warming to her. I remember her in Glee but I don’t recall ever seeing her as herself in an interview. But TPTB can slice/dice and present her differently.
I just remember the Glee episode where she recreated a bunch of Britney Spears’ videos, she danced just like Britney plus the fact that she was a Beyoncé back up dancer. This one is really, really a stretch for me. I didn’t think there was anything left that TPTB could do that would shock me but they managed to.
Vogue, you were right. I should have listened to you, but I watched it. That was annoying. The one thing I did notice, though, is that Maks actually seemed to admit on some level that they have an advantage. I wonder if he realizes that most people find it off-putting if a couple with an advantage this massive just straight up denies having any advantage. If he does in fact realize this, he would be wise to talk to Heather and make sure she understands.
I agree!!
Oh yeah, execs are most likely never going to let Maks and Heather acknowledge the fact that they have an advantage. Deena Katz, one of the exec producers on the show, had an interview with ET about that. She basically said that she doesn’t see it as a big deal that someone who is a professional dancer is on the show as a star, or something along those lines.
Wow. Even she has lost understanding on the whole point of this show.
So yeah, no surprise there that all we’re hearing from Maks and Heather are “Oh, it’s different and will be a challenge!” rather than “We know we have an advantage so we have to create challenges another way aka through complex choreo.”
As each member of the fam has its mirror ball, they may set their sights on an Emmy or at least one nomination. Hence the ringers. Lol…
Lana I don’t believe any of the three has an Emmy in them.
I may be in the minority, although I am in the DWTS demo, but I’ve never watched Glee. So I have no clue who this woman is. But on first impression, I’m not warming up to her personality at all! It doesn’t matter how well she dances. If she’s not likable, she’s not going to last to the finals, imo.
Maks should be embarrassed to be competing against non-dancers with a professional dancer. Sheesh. They could have hired her for the troupe instead of having her compete.
Maks and Val don’t have Emmys in them. Maks had Meryl – the previous biggest ringer of all time – and couldn’t score one. Val sits back and doesn’t go out on a limb with the Choreo.
Difference between DWTS and the Emmys? The latter isn’t going to make it easy for you.
Found this hilarious tweet:
Also on ET: #DWTS cast. Question to BEYONCÉ’S FORMER BACK UP DANCER: do you have an unfair advantage?
Dancer: Not at all! It’s TOTALLY fair.
Yeah I definitely think the GP will be turnoff by these facts. I do not think she will make it to the finals, close to though.
Maybe Maks is trying to NOT be a massive hypocrite when you think back to all the public bitching he did about Derek and his partners.
Hopefully her personality keeps her from winning.
I have not seen Glee, but I do remember seeing her on SYTYCD and didn’t like her there either. It is really not fair to have her on the show. She could be in Troupe or even a pro, as Allison was on the same season of SYTYCD as Heather. In the Netherlands we have a saying “Hoogmoed komt voor de val” Which basically means that someone who thinks they are everything, will eventually fall. I am hoping in her case this will become a reality and she will be out soon.
I’m sorry, I know i’be said this before, but a PROFESSIONAL dancer is totally unfair, and under no cercumstances should be allowed to be on the show as a celebrity. I know one of you mediators will probably have a problem with me, sorry, but I don’t like it.
No, Rachel, as long as you’re talking about the show there’s no problem. Now, some might disagree with you, but that’s a different thing. I actually agree with you. I didn’t think it was fair that Riker was on, either.
Maks and Val aiming for an Emmy??? HA…they have about as much a chance of success at that venture as they do pursuing serious acting careers 😛 The only hope for an Emmy on this show right now is Sharna or Lindsay – outside chance of Sasha, if he’s able to stop playing it safe and really go for it with Simone.
When even other news outlets are kinda taking digs at Heather (and not just we big meanies here at Pure), I think she’s in for some trouble this season – Mama Spence watched one interview with her on E! and was like “That girl is stuck up and thinks she’s gonna win this.” On the flip side, Mama Spence really liked Chris, David, & Bonner, because they “don’t have any ego about their dancing”.
It’s also important to keep in mind that Glee wrapped two years ago – and aside from a few of the cast members having small roles on Scream Queens or American Horror Story (and Melissa Benoist doing Supergirl), most of them haven’t been very involved in more mainstream-popular ventures. I don’t know that Heather is going to be able to rely heavily on the Glee fanbase with this one – it seems to have dissipated quite a bit from when Amber did DWTS 3.5 years ago.
Her facial expression remind me of Disgust in Inside Out.
You definitely have a good point about Riker. However, since he wasn’t as well known, I don’t think, it was probably a little easier to overlook his dance background.
Without the showmance angle, I don’t see this team lasting all that long. She has NO personality and as a professional dancer there won’t be that growth/journey that the voting audience loves.
Well and the thing about Riker that kinda sets him apart from Heather for me is that he had not actually danced ballroom in a good 10 years when he did the show – Heather has actually kept up her dance training. Riker was lapsed – Heather isn’t. Ditto for Alfonso – people wanted to harp on his tap experience as if he had been doing it professionally, every day of his life, since he was 8, when in reality, all he’d really been doing for the past 20 years was the Carlton…albeit jokingly. Big difference between someone that danced in a semi-professional capacity 10-20 years ago and someone that continues to make a living dancing today.
Don’t be surprised if they throw Beyonce and Jay-Z to be part of the audience. WATCH AND SEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The day that Beyonce & Jay-Z show up in the DWTS is the day I personally fly to L.A. and apologize to Val for every negative thing I’ve ever said about him, founded or unfounded. In other words – KEEP DREAMING.
Their biggest challenge may be whose choreography are they going to use. Season after season Maks choreo has been lackluster at best, I’m curious to see if this season is any different, if suddenly this season things are amped up in the choreo department then I’m calling foul.
You do realize these producers aren’t ACTUALLY god, right Justine1?? They just think they are…
Can’t wait for Val to say something about how unfair it is competing against a gold medal gymnast. lol
@PJ#1 it just better as hell not come from Maks.
