PureDWTS Season 24, Week 2 – Power Rankings

To begin, here is a list of things I’m totally over seeing/hearing about on DWTS this season:

1.) Explanations of how Heather doesn’t have an advantage due to being a professional dancer.
2.) Production/the judges trying to angle for a showmance between Bonner & Sharna.
3.) Len generally being cranky about anything that doesn’t fit a rigid set of standards, and scoring to “make a point” as a result.
4.) How tired Normani is/how jet-lagged she & Val are.
5.) Charo generally being unruly.

It’s only week 2, and already, all of the above items have been beaten like a dead horse. Time to find some new material, production.

Beyond all those low points, I’d rate last night about a 6/10 – not bad, per se, but still kinda bland in terms of what I’ve come to expect from DWTS.  Front half of the show was a pretty big snooze, and they seem to load the back hour with the stronger performances. One pleasant surprise: Rupaul himself in the audience, out of drag, and rooting for Charo. I daresay he’s probably wayyyy too big a get for DWTS (and given my recent talk about demographics, probably not someone who would be extraordinarily popular with the main viewing audience), but one can dream 🙂

Part of me is a tad sad to see Chris go – no, he wasn’t a great dancer, but he wanted to be there, and I had no idea he had such a serious injury.  Definitely explains a lot about why he disappeared from the public eye for awhile, and Witney sympathizing with him showed me a new, more mature side of her. At the very least, he went out on a high note, with a fun dance that he did decently well with. Maybe we can look forward to a more in-depth Night at the Roxbury-themed dance from him at the finale 😛 Read more..

Ultrasound sales specialist by day, semi-knowledgeable DWTS fan by night...with a smattering of hair & makeup enthusiast, occasional model, baker, and crazy cat lady peppered in to make things REALLY interesting ;-) I might pee my pants in happiness if Donnie Wahlberg ever does DWTS - or if they ever use "Sunglasses at Night" as a paso doble.

DWTS Season 24 Chris Kattan And Witney Carson Elimination Interview On Good Morning America

Chris Kattan and Witney Carson flew to New York to be on Good Morning America to talk about their elimination on Dancing With The Stars. Chris has nothing but good things to say on the show and Witney. Witney said Chris had her laughing the whole time, but, they really worked hard too. Witney also said she thinks Rashad and Simone will be in the finals. Thanks to @Idolxfactor1 for recording. Great interview.

PureDWTS Season 24 Week 2: Pre and Post Show Media, Interviews, Scores, And More

What another super night of dancing on Dancing With The Stars. They are all so good in different ways. Though I’m sad when we have to see someone eliminated. One thing is for sure, I’m a new fan of Chris Kattan. He was so funny and I love how he just had a blast. I’ll never forget his story too. What an inspiration to the world. To relive his dance and all the others, see Idolxfactor.com (this link works for International viewers too) or the Official You Tube site.

So, let’s review the scores…

Normani Kordei and Valentin Chmerkovskiy (Cha Cha): Scores of 8-8-8-8 from the judges for a total of 32.
Rashad Jennings and Emma Slater (Viennese Waltz): Scores of 8-8-8-8 from the judges for a total of 32.
Heather Morris and Alan (subbing for the injured Maksim Chmerkovskiy) (Jive): Scores of 8-6-8-8 from the judges for a total of 30.
Simone Biles and Sasha Farber (Cha Cha): Scores of 7-7-7-8 from the judges for a total of 29.
Bonner Bolton and Sharna Burgess (Viennese Waltz): Scores of 8-6-8-7 from the judges for a total of 29.
Nancy Kerrigan and Artem Chigvintsev (Cha Cha): Scores of 7-7-7-7 from the judges for a total of 28.
Erika Jayne and Gleb Savchenko (Foxtrot): Scores of 7-7-7-7 from the judges for a total of 28.
David Ross and Lindsay Arnold (Cha Cha):Scores of 7-6-7-7 from the judges for a total of 27.
Charo and Keo Motsepe (Paso): Scores of 6-6-7-6 from the judges for a total of 25.
Nick Viall and Peta Murgatroyd: (Foxtrot): Scores of 7-5-7-6 from the judges for a total of 25.
Mr. T and Kym Herjavec (Paso): Scores of 6-5-6-5 from the judges for a total of 22.
Chris Kattan and Witney Carson (Jazz): Scores of 6-5-6-5 from the judges for a total of 22. (Eliminated)

Now for some media. First, see People for all of their new interviews after the show. FOX11 talked with some of the contestants as well. Below Nancy explains what happened in rehearsals this past week versus what we saw in their package and more….

After the show, Kerrigan told FOX411 that the rehearsal moment was overblown, saying, “That was like five minutes of the whole week! We’re truly having a ton of fun…most of the time, we’re just laughing.

“Sometimes it’s rough and frustrating in practice — but we were there for like four or five hours.”

When asked if she’s tired of being always known for the Harding-related incident, married mom of three Kerrigan shrugged to FOX411, “I mean, I guess it was part of my life but yeah, things have moved on way beyond that. I’m having a great time here.”

Kerrigan told reporters she’s had no further problems from the knee that notoriously got hit–but she did admit to having “spine issues, so that’s sort of annoying. I need surgery on my spine when I’m done with this [show].

“Actually, when I got asked [to do “DWTS], I was in the neurosurgeon’s office…but I just wanted to be here. During the little breaks, it’s a lot of stretching and stuff to make sure I’m standing up straight.”

The famed ice skater hopes to “become more confident, not be so nervous” by doing “DWTS.”

More at FOX11. FOX11 also has a great interview with Peta HERE. I love how her and Maks aren’t waiting any longer to get married.

DWTS Season 24, WEEK TWO – LIVE BLOG (Spoilers)

So, what kind of fresh hell awaits us tonight?? To be on the safe side, I’m going for a beer. Courtney will fill in if I’m not back in time. 🙂

T-minus 15 minutes…

Alright, let’s get this show on the road. Thoughts going into tonight’s show: I’m sure the Maks injury drama will be milked for all its worth. Erika going 2nd? Yikes, big trouble spot. But I will be shocked if anyone other than Chris heads home tonight. -Court-

Ummm, WOW. That was a pretty solid cha-cha from Nancy, and Artem didn’t hold back – he didn’t coddle her.  And she handled it.  Color me impressed 🙂

A 28 for Nancy.  Perhaps a tad underscored, but let’s see how the  rest of this night shakes out…

Ehhh…Erika really needed to stand out tonight, and I’m not sure that’s the dance that’s gonna do it.  Just a little too cool & at ease, and she had a couple snafus.  She’s not bad, but she’s not memorable.  Hmmm.

A 28 for Erika as well…and I think it was a skosh overscored, with respect to Nancy.  Just feel like Nancy did MORE. Read more..

Nick Viall talks the Foxtrot and Maks’ Injury in this DWTS Season 24 Week 2 Vlog

Why do all the blogs come out on the same day? They’re less likely to get covered here when they do that – there’s only so much we can take. 😉 Nick talks the foxtrot, Maks and Peta…check out People.com or the Video below.

Peta Murgatroyd Talks William Shatner and the Female Competition for Nick Viall – DWTS Week 2 Blog

Actually, William Shatner made it fairly clear why he’s not a Nick fan in his usual Bill Shatner kind of way. That said, I find Nick to be funny and endearing – and any of the guys who can give serious competition to the female ringers get my vote. 🙂 Check out Peta’s whole blog on People.com – it’s a good one! Good job, “Pete”. 😀

William Shatner has been very vocal about not liking Nick and I just think that’s funny. I have no idea what Shatner has against Nick, but he is one of my fans. That’s why I wrote to him that I am going to get him to love Nick at the end of the day.

I just want everyone to get along and see a new side of Nick. On the reality shows he was sometimes cast as the villain, but what I’ve seen of him, he’s just the biggest joker and we have so much fun. I love that people are noticing that.

But it’s also hard work. He’s exhausted. Everything hurts right now, which is completely normal. He’s learning something so new to him and he’s giving it his best shot.

He is such a hard worker. He doesn’t stop! He doesn’t take breaks! I have to take breaks and have water and rest my legs. I’m still trying to get back to my normal level after my pregnancy. But he’s just, like, “Let’s go Pete! Let’s go. Let’s go again.” I’ll be sitting there resting and he’ll be keeping going.

More Dance Hints For Dancing With The Stars Season 24 Week 2

ET Online caught up with Rashad Jennings to ask him about week 2 of Dancing With The Stars. He gives some fun teasers on tonight’s dance with Emma Slater.

“I do have some of my friends coming into town for the show. We’ll prob go grab some sushi, my go-to thing, and then go to this vegan ice cream spot that I just die for, but I’m going to get some rest because I want to be on point for the dance,” Rashad shared. “The judges can give me a birthday gift by giving me a good score. And the people can give me a good gift by voting for me. That’ll be my gift!”

He also gave ET a few details on what to expect from he and his partner, Emma Slater. The two will be dancing the Viennese Waltz to “Suffer” by Charlie Puth, and Rashad says he’s planning to break out his poetry skills — a hobby he picked up during one of his off-seasons — to add a fun element that the show has never seen before.

“I do poetry. My hashtag is #ShadThePoet … so anything with a hashtag that has [my nickname] ‘Shad’ in front of it, it’s a way for people to get to know me personally, outside of being a football player,” he explained. “I take 10 seconds of a song, and in front of it, I put 10 seconds of poetry. So I lead people with my poetry into how I want the music to move them.”

“This week Emma was like, ‘You have a soothing voice when you do that. I want you to narrate the audience, the crowd, everyone [watching] TV into this song.’ So the room is going to be dark, I’m going to be speaking,” he teased. “It’s going to be unique, and hasn’t been done on the show yet. I think this may be one of my favorite dances to do, just because of the song.”

ET also talked with Sharna burgess and Bonner Bolton as well….

“He’s doing very well,” added Sharna, who confirmed that despite reports, she and Bonner are not dating. “Like he said, he connects to this one because of that Texas two-step dance that he’s used to.”

“He’s used to taking a woman’s hand and leading her around a dance floor, which is super rare these days, a man that has the confidence to do that, so it’s actually really fitting in his world,” she continued. “He’s connecting with the steps. We haven’t quite got to putting the romance and the character in there yet, but we’re going to get it.”

So what type of romantic is Bonner in real life? “I’ve tried to keep it genuine and unique, but I used to take girls out on the ranch and show them a good sunset out on the West Texas desert, show them the stars at night,” he gushed. “A little wine and dine.”

More at ET Online in what to expect for tonight with some of the other couples too.

ETA: Maks and Heather chatted with Access Hollywood Live about their dance last week….and their second dance too. This interview must have been recorded last week before Maks’ interview. You can watch this interview HERE.

Simone Biles Week 2 Blog – Judges Who Talk are “Scary”

That’s something that hadn’t occurred to me – that getting actual verbal feedback in addition to a score would be scary for a kid who’s just waiting on the numbers. And, no lie, these judges can be humiliating at times. I don’t envy her that. Check out People.com to read her whole blog – it’s pretty good, but short.

But even though we got a 32 out of 40, getting feedback from the judges was a little scary. In gymnastics we just get a number but on DWTS they get to tell you what they think you did wrong. It’s nice to be told what you need to improve on, but it’s terrifying for that to happen in front of the entire world!

Getting ready for this week’s show has been very different than premiere week. Last week, I think I picked up the dance a little easier, but this week we have cha cha to Jessie J’s “Burning Up” and I’m finding it challenging.

The actual steps are not the hard part. I’m supposed to be sexier in this dance and that’s not something I’ve ever had to do before. Sasha has been really working with me to loosen up my body and to make sure I’m showing the emotion of the dance on my face.
