DWTS Season 24, WEEK FIVE – LIVE BLOG (Spoilers)
Disney Week – I can’t decide if I’m excited or not. 🙂 I have a tendency to recall Rumer sneering at the camera “Let Nastia and Derek have that song” like an entitled…anyway, that’s one of the drawbacks of watching this show since nearly the beginning. Almost nothing is new.
Hey, there’s my favorite little cutie from SYTYCD. JT!!
Okay, that was a really good opening number. Loved it. Very catchy number. Well done Alfonso. And the whole cast! That was really good.
LOL Emma! Peek at that mirror!
Hear that crowd roar after that dance? yeah, me too. 😉 Very good dance in my opinion. Didn’t like the stairs part at the beginning – gotta give Emma some crap on that the same as I do for the C-boys. Although they do it all the time and she usually doesn’t.
Kinda like the tinker bell look on Jules. It photographs better than it looks on the show.
Oh STFU, CAI. Boooooooooo!
Massively underscored. Massively. Totally hosed. That 7 was uncalled for.
And he’s called safe. That is highly annoying. Of course I want him to be safe, but I think it tends to suppress the votes for him by the people in the audience who have no clue.
Oh we’re back to this. SAFE – Heather and Alan
Jeopardy – Erika and Gleb
SAFE – Bonner and Sharna
Nick and Peta are jeopardy. And they dance next. Nick is kinda like Derek – give him a clean shave and he loses 10 years off his age.
Peta is right – he is getting better each week but the show is rather determined to keep him down.
Boy, Peta is really challenging Nick with some hard stuff. All that side by side? Cuuuhrap. And he handled it very well for the most part. Very cute dance, IMO. I have to admit that as soon as I saw the cane I was all “Charlie flashback”.
Hold the fucking phone. I like Nick and all, and think he did a very good job…that that dance was NOT better than Rashad’s – looking at you CAI. Is he going home? Very possible based on that score.
Man, crack is wack.
Erika getting the sympathy edit. :::sigh::: I’m sorry, she does nothing for me. I would much rather see Nick again than her. I’m sure she’s a nice enough woman, but…
I could have done without the hair flick in the middle, and her feet came off the ground. Pretty lackluster choreo, IMO. Not a horrendous dance by any stretch. Just not very impactful.
“Profound” CAI?? Jaysus. She’s getting the very kind judges as well – I thought it wasn’t nearly smooth enough.
And Erika also gets a higher score from CAI than Rashad did. I’m disgusted.
I’m sure you can do Jazz well, Heather. I would hope so since you’re a PROFESSIONAL DANCER!!!
The professional dancer did very well on the Jazz. But the choreo was way too weak for a professional dancer.
OMG, CAI gets real?? I’m shocked. Man, Len getting real as well. Waiting on Julianne the pro dancer apologist. And as expected, Julianne delivers. She makes a good point, true – but Heather is a professional dancer and she’s not dancing up to the standard one would expect.
Maks? I didn’t understand anything you were trying to say.
Yet another person getting a higher score than Rashad from CAI. He must be killing it in the votes.
Bonner is funny but he was very wooden in the opening. He gets progressively better…and then he gets wooden again. What style is this? Foxtrot?
Heh. Len can’t remember what style this was supposed to be either. 😀
Sharna has candy in her hair. So you’re trying to tell me that Bonner and Rashad are the same Carrie Ann?? MY ASS.
Forgot to mention my little JT in another dance. Love that kid. So cute.
More results…
SAFE – Simone
SAFE – David
Jeopardy – Normani (OH give me a break – trying to pump up the votes for Normani)
SAFE – Nancy
Prediction: they put her in jeopardy so that they can kiss her ass and give her a perfect 40. Classic redemption story. Even the package is playing into it.
Big break right in the middle. Probably Donny’s fault. She seemed a bit behind Val early on, and had trouble with some other turns. Almost falling out of them in a couple spots. Kinda weird. She did good, but I think I expected a bit more as well.
And the expected fawning commences. She does have good lines, for sure. But the turns are just odd in spots.
Geez, sexist much, CAI?? What does her being a girl have to do with anything??
I can’t believe Donnie was Season 9. That long ago? I like Normani – I just wish Val would STFU. I love how Erin’s cuts him off.
Yeah, I don’t think that’s 39 dance. Oh my god, SHUT UP, VAL!!
David is so cute and fun. Love him.
Yeah, big music break. Hate that.
Holy crap!! David just did a damn decent jive!! Remember, this is a baseball player, not a professional entertainer. Amazing job!! Lindsay scores on the choreo again.
These judges are just full of shit. Come on. The athletes with no professional performing experience aren’t doing that much worse than the performers (Normani and Heather) yet they are getting shit on by the judges. 7s?? Are you KIDDING ME? Dude must be getting serious votes.
Nancy looks BEAUTIFUL!! Come on, girl!! You can do it.
That was awesome!! A little rushed in that spot that she messed up in the blocking, but really good!!
I really like Artem this season – Nancy is bringing something out of him that is very positive. And, based on her running order and her judges comments, etc…I wonder if she might be doing very well in the votes.
And here we go with the bad edit for Simone!! Right on time, eh? At least they fixed it toward the end.
I love that little pig. I want one. A cartoon pig. Have I mentioned that I’m eating a Reese’s peanut butter rabbit with white wine? Total female combo, I must say. 🙂
Where’s Lin Manuel? I looooove him.
Okay, I’ve been waiting to see Simone’s talents put to good use. Best dance of the night, I think. But of course it likely won’t be scored that way.
Not the raving that the Normani and Heather got. Should have been the high score of the night. Grrrr….
Normani is safe, of course. Only in jeopardy to boost her voters.
Erika and Gleb eliminated, as predicted. Am I sensing some hostility from Erika or is that my imagination?
Okay, who was keeping track? By my count, Rashad and Simone were once again left out of the Erin skybox chat for how many weeks in a row now? If someone has been keeping track of who’s not getting Erin time, that would also help with my Mayhem post for this week. The timing, provided someone did it will help address the other issues – like who got cutesy disney animation during their packages? Hit me up at Heidi@purederekhough.com with your findings. Thx.
I was just thinking the same thing-I’m excited and I’m not excited which sucks b/c when it comes to these cheesy theme weeks, Disney week is one I like but all I keep thinking about is how much more conniving can this show get….?
Alfonso is a born entertainer. I’m so glad that him doing the show has rejuvinated his career.
Yuck to the song in the opening number
Ok so far Sooo good-JT and Alfonso, completely, stole the opening!! The little girl was a cutie too!! I’ll give it out to Mandy Moore for bringing it all together with the cast! ????
I’ve seen the beauty and the beast movie three times can’t wait to see Rashad and Emma dance
Loved the opening. That song is catchy. Anyways, that video for Rashad and Emma was great. Was worried at first but thank goodness that took a good turn
Looooooved the opening. The best I’ve seen in a long time. I unabashedly love Disney Week. And I’m heartened to see Rashad and Simone bookending the show. Plus the fresh batch of songs. Here’s to hoping manipulations won’t kill my vibe.
Was curious to see how the set would look and it looked minimal compared to past beauty and the beast dances so A+ there Emma thank you 🙂 . Definately a great dance and he really seemed to enjoy himself. I’d give that dance a 9 bordering on a 10.
Omg so emotional watching Emma and Rashad
Great arm extensions by Rashad! And the dance had a lovely flow throughout-CAI is WRONG about his “small movements” WTH is she talking about? ???
I really enjoyed the opening number. Rashad and Emma were great imo. He is hella classy sexy. (If that could even be a thing).
What a crappy song.
WTH! Did CAI get the memo that Rashad is not the chosen one. Boo!
Seriously, Carrie Ann? A 7? That was worth a 9 at least.
“Massively underscored. Massively. He got totally hosed.” AGREED. Jeez. WTH was up with those scores? I did notice a bit of awkwardness, but nowhere near SEVEN-level.
They deserved 10s wonder if I’m the only one who wishes the show would get all new judges
Wtf CAI? BS lowballing. The hosing’s already begun. I also am annoyed by the acknowledgement of the song’s tricky timing and then them still getting some blame for it.
A aaaand I hope that preview doesn’t mean a bad edit for Sasha and simone.
Ugh I was FEELING GOOD, DWTS.
Shout out to Julianne. CAI is straight up smoking something. A 7 for that?!?! Absolutely ridiculous. Thought that deserved most or all 9s. CAI’s critique was straight up crap. Have no idea what she was saying.
Well looks like CAI smoked the wacky weed before the show again. I thought that was beautiful. Esp considering the music they were dancing to.
Hmmm why are they showing some negativity in the packages of Simone, Nancy and David? ? Are they gonna show any negativity from anybody else’s rehearsal packages too or just theirs? ?
Big thanks to my son who is sacrificing watching the Cav’s in the playoffs so Mom can get her DWTS fix LOL
I love JT!! Cutest kid and so talented. IMP he should have won SYTYCD.
Rashad and Emma- While I agree it was not his best dance (probably due to the song) but can’t help thinking he must be killing it in votes given the comments and mediocre scores. Good on Julianne for not playing the game. 8-9 make sense, 7 is ridiculous!
Aw crap I hate it when they do results in the middle of the dancing. I esp hate – you are in jeopardy now go dance.
A 7? Was there a lift or something, CAI? Interesting what her future scores will be.
Someone (judges or producers) always ruins my Disney happiness and becomes the evil king or evil stepmother or witch. This year, it’s Carrie Ann, I see. Just like in the fairy tales, goodness will prevail (I hope)!
Trying to be optimistic here, at least “crap all over Rashad” week happened when he’s not in danger of going home anyway. I can’t see a situation in which Rashad goes home next week, regardless of how everybody else scores.
JT from little kid SYTYCD with my fave, Robert??? Love that Robert was on the Oscars and want he also in Lala land? Was Robert in the opening number too? I would love for him to be a regular on DWTS! Can’t wait to see it!
I’m loving the costumes for nick and peta. I have an idea for Halloween now. Plus that song is just catchy and perfection for me as a kid lol. That video was good. Nose growing never was so oddly hysterical. The dance was actually my fav so far. I’d easily give that an 8. Improving by leaps and bounds nick is.
My thought process for Nick and peta, this is cute, this is good – oh hey.. there’s some canes
Nick, very cute dance.Really , CarrieAnn? Is she being obvious or not?
Nick and Peta’s routine was cute and fun-I wasn’t wowed by it though….thought she made it pretty intricate for him and he almost had some difficulty keeping up….9’s?? Hmmm….Are they that much in jeopardy over Erika? Oh boy….
“WHAT?!?!” I’m watching with my mom and sister, and we all screamed that when Nick’s scores came out. CAI logic has completely derailed at this point. A 7 for Rashad and then a 9 for Nick makes no effin sense,
Rashad and Emma made me tear up. That dance was amazing and graceful and beautiful. Nick and Peta surprised me, that dance was super cute and super sharp
9’s for Nick and a 7 for Rashad? What the? I don’t get this show sometimes.
Rashad is the only one I’ve liked so far can Erika please go home I just feel no connection to her
Rashad and Emma fans need to vote!! Their dance was lovely and so well done.
Wow. The scoring is a clustertruck. I.just.don’t.get.it. Nick was good. Rashad was really good. Yet, Nick scores higher. Mods are are right (as usual). TPTB really seem to get judges and celeb packages to manipulate and script the direction of the show. It’s a shame really.
Okay, so we’ve transitioned from the part of the season where scores are sometimes wonky to the part of the season where the scores are totally and utterly random. Cool.
I agree that Erika’s dance did nothing for me. She just looks very fake and I’m sick of hearing about how she thinks she should be better because she is a performer.
Was I the only one who was creeped out by watching Erika cry on Gleb’s shoulder? ???
I will say that when she’s not acting not a sex-pot, she can deliver BUT is it enough and is it too late? Eh….
Anyone wants an example of why going first is a killer in terms of scores, you just saw one in all it’s glory with Rashad. He does that dance later then he gets at least a couple more 9s and certainly not a 7. Interesting how Nick got sympathy scores to suggest he was going home but Erika got the sympathy edit to suggest it was her. Right now I’d lean towards it being Erika. Plus Nancy or David may be in jeopardy as well and Nancy did have a tough running order spot last week. Let’s see how it all plays out.
I’m at a loss here on Erika. That dance wasn’t exactly memorable but definately her best yet. I’d give that an 8. honestly between the gushing over her and nick….I’m edging towards her leaving tonight.
Nick and Peta- Cute routine It will be interesting to see the scores since I’d give it a 7. WHAT BS!! I like Peta but come on!! No way that was better than Rashad!
Erika and Gleb Oh boo-hoo Sorry but when you dance ONE style and flat out say TOO BAD I’M NOT CHANGING what do you expect? It was a nice dance 8’s seem fair though again she was nowhere near as good as Rashad. I think she’s going home.
CAI’s scores: Rashad: 7, Nick: 9, Erika: 8. GTFO of here with that BS. On no planet are Nick and Erika close to the level of Rashad. My mom and sister are ranting about the manipulation. I’m hoping most of the general audience can see through the crap.
I cannot take any of CAI’S scores seriously for the rest of the night because I’m just like ‘I want a ten page essay with works cited on why that got higher than rashad.’
Really like seeing this side of Erika. Probably too little too late though. Lovely dance, but it wasn’t as good as the first too.
Also some nitpickyness not having to do with the dance: I understand not wanting to do a fish suit but I wish erika had at least worn a dory-blue dress. I feel like she’s the only one not committing to the theme.
Nick was definitely overscored! He was stiff the entire routine!
Utter crap giving Rashad 7 for god sake !!!
Not really feeling video for Heather and Alan. Maks annoyed me becuase he isn’t one that should be talking about getting into character for any dance. Dance kinda felt like running for awhile and then some good stuff. Good not great. I guess an 8.
Really Tom u want us to believe that was Maks’ choro? I really think I just need to ff through Heather’s dances for the rest of the time she is on.
Didn’t enjoy Heather’s dance
I feel like 60% of that jazz was just heather running around. Agree with CAI surprisingly. Oi does it look awful on C Bros when they can’t even make a professional dancer with jazz specialty do well.
Aaaand why is julianne still on the heather pimp train?
“I loved it” Of course you did you choreographed it. Maks, stop talking. Happy CAI finally called them out. That dance was a lot of spinning and running. BORING
I can’t believe she went on and on about how she could friggin “do jazz well” Duh? Ya think? You learned it!!! ???
I think the characterization of the dance was very good-I, personally, saw more ballroom than particular standard jazz but that could, also, be b/c of the song they were given and, also, b/c, clearly, Maks choreographed and we all know he can’t choreo traditional jazz for shit LOL
CAI redeeming herself. Also love Heather admitting there wasn’t a lot of dancing. Honestly, given potential and expectations, I would’ve been fine with 4 7s.
Should’ve been 7s for Heather, with maybe even a 6 thrown in there. Such a disappointment, especially considering she’s been doing this for donkey’s years.
That reminded me of two of Val’s jazz dances.
West Side Story with Janel and the Way You Make Me Feel.
At least I think they were both labeled jazz but I know they were super underwhelming! Danced great, sure. But nothing I can’t see at the local high school dance competition.
Heather and Maks/Alan- HELLO Maks she is TRAINED in Jazz! That’s like her telling YOU how to do Latin DUH!! There was minimal dancing and more ACTING which is fine for a lesser dancer but not a PROFESSIONAL Sorry Heather 8 is about what that was worth but you danced the hell out of it.
So far I’m kind of GRRRR about Disney night A lot of good couples remain so let’s hope it turns around a bit.
It’s going to be odd to have Heather not dance with Alan anymore. I hope she can maintain the same level of chemistry with Maks.
I’m going to guess that the 3rd couple who is in jeopardy will be the first couple to be called safe at the end of the episode, leaving Nick and Erika in the bottom 2. Considering that next week is boyband vs. girl band week, it seems like TPTB would want to eliminate Erika so that there’ll be four women vs. four men next week.
Well Bonner and sharna….that was easily my fav from him thus far. I’d give that 9. Another one improving big time the last two weeks in my opinion. 🙂
Bonner was ok I think it was the song that’s making me feel not to into it
Hey!! I just spotted Romeo from season’s past with Chelsea Hightower!! I loved them together that season-can’t remember which-my memory fails-would have to look it up LOL
The choreography seriously let Heather down there. The girl can do anything she’s bloody trained in the dance style. Maks/Alan/Serge/any other ghosts has dropped a bomb there. She did it all perfectly mind, as you would expect. Julianne once again embarrassing herself, that’s nothing new please love get yourself back to Move rehearsals and stay there for good.
Ok WTH is CAI saying?! She’s driving me crazy this evening….
I, actually, thought Bonner held his own while he was IN HOLD-when he was out of hold, he was a bit out of balance at times but he seemed to really enjoy himself with this dance!
Wow between Donny & Val, that was a lot of ego on the screen.
Aaaaand here comes Val. Tea and toilet break time I think.
I loved Bonner and Sharna’s dance. Super fun. The most personality I’ve seen from him this season (though he does still have ‘wooden’ moments). I think 7’s were too low. And it also reiterates my hatred for Rashad’s score which also got a 7 from CAI but was BETTER.
They thought Bonner did better than he did and he was stiffer than a brick but I’m glad he reminded the audience a few times about his injury. An Injury doesn’t injure your personality as well.I am glad he actually tried a little this time though but it wasn’t as good as Rashad CAI!!!
I loved the opening number–really cute!!! I don’t like when they announce during the show who is safe and who is in jeopardy. It ruins the show for me. They should save it for the end.
So far tonight my favorite dance has been Rashad and Emma but it was totally underscored. And other dancers who weren’t as good were scored too high.
oh woowww
Rashad must be killing it with the votes
First to dance, first to get called safe and a 7?
I don’t know what to say
Fuming that Rashad got the same score as Bonner from CAI, Rashad runs rings around him I can’t understand her she’s so random
So Normani’s in jep? Would love her to be a shock elim but unfortunately think the teeny bopper vote is too strong compared to Nick and Erika’s, even if she isn’t getting votes from elsewhere.
This Normandi crap is turning me off from the show. Enough already!
Loved Donny and that pasa
Finally normani and Val feeling the heat last week from Len resulted in her best dance. Glad she is in jeopardy but I’d give it an 8. Val must be pissed lol
Kiss her ass is right Heidi! They are friggin going ga ga over this paso doble as if it was the next coming of Jesus! Are they serious?! ???
Well,She did that! I’m keeping with my team but she will be around until the end. That was really good! No way she is going home.Donny still sounded good as well.
Rashad and Normani are the top two so far for me at least
I generally liked Normani’s dance, but I wasn’t a fan of the stick stuff in the middle.
Rolled my eyes at yet another “call jeopardy for the person about to dance” and I hated the panning to donny. And then the kissing donny’s ass after.
Buuuut, call me crazy, I really freaking loved this dance. Great amount of paso. Lots of passion. Still plenty of fun. I think 39 is fair.
That should’ve been 8s maximum, no doubt about it. The 10s are an absolute joke.
Bonner and Sharna I think they are hitting a wall physically Guy is amazing but not physically ready to compete with those who are much more flexible/versatile.
Normani and Val It was not worth a 10 in my book. Whatever it’s obviously all about the C bro’s and Peta tonight cause it sure as hell ain’t about the dancing.
Normani must not be getting the votes. Jeopardy, gushing from the judges and a gift 39.
That paso is soooo undeserving of ANY 10’s!!! OMG!!
A dance that didn’t have enough traditional paso doble steps, a dance where it seems like Val didn’t even bother to teach Normani to even assume the paso forward stance, a dance where the props and even friggin Donny Osmond were Sooo totally distracting from it and it gets perfect scores?! UNREAL!!
Well I love David and Lindsay but that wasn’t feeling it this week. Song kinda was odd too. He got better towards the end of it though 🙂 I’d give it a 7
David was clearly having fun
I love how they are using the checkered suits from the Pitbul Number and James’s trio last season!!
I never try to comment whilst a show is in progress, but I’m so *explitive* mad at the blatant praise for a Paso Doble that had so little control!!! This wouldn’t have been so bad had Len not gone along for the praise Normani crap, call me crazy but I’m pretty damn sure Len doesn’t like hyperactive Paso Doble, Chelsea Kane’s Paso Doble is a prime example, but needless to say I think Normani might legitimately be in trouble or is going to be next week (if this jeopardy shot isn’t as effective as TPTB think it might be).
David and Lindsay’s dance screamed FUN!! Loved her choreography once again and he handled it pretty well considering jive is a fast dance!
David and Lindsay- Nice ring! Too cute!! Her choreography is ALWAYS creative.
Love how she worked the idea of CARS into the moves I’d give it a 9 but here come the CLOWNS with the hoses again!
David’s dance was so much better than a lot of the other dances tonight and the scores were so low compared to others not as good. I don’t understand how they score on this show. He should have had a much higher score. NOT FAIR!
I liked the first half of Normani’s dance, but the second half had very little Paso content. I wish they at least started with the sticks and then ended with the Paso stuff. I was hoping for more. The dance didn’t deserve more than one 10.
Younger audiences tend to not vote as much as older audiences (Too bad that also applies to general elections), but realistically I don’t think Normani landed in the bottom this week. She didn’t need the boost in votes this particular week.
Just voted on the phone and heard Tom say next week is girl groups vs boybands theme. How awesome more pimping for the only girl group member Normani and Val…This show is a joke
Ugh I hated Nancy’s song
Nancy and Artem are a welcome surprise to me this season. Nancy is endearing and Artem keeps impressing me his dances and with their partenership. Any word if he has any outside help (not that it matters because it is fab)?
Hey maks watch Nancy and artem. That’s a Jazz routine that works on every level 🙂 . Nancy owned that dance 10 easily from me.
Ugh every time Erin talks my ears bleed
Damn that did not look like an easy routine but she held her own throughout it. I love how real she gets in her rehearsal packages! Very humble!
Honestly though I don’t know if I’d give them 9’s….
Simone and Sasha 🙂 they got a bad edit video….can’t wait to see normani and Val’s soon or Heather and maks next week since he of the loud mouth (what my friends call maks) and he of the never ending talking (val) get karma back in their face.
Yep-noticed how they gotta focus on the negative with Simone-just terrible Exploitation ?
Love Nancy. She’s the Jennifer Gray of season 24. Just fabulous. Should have had at least one 10. She was as good at this dance as was Normani at hers. A woman of character and beautiful too.
Side note: peanut butter rabbit and wine is sounding good about now. You should try (and trust me this is delicious) chocolate rabbits dipped in caramel and Nutella together.
Simone and Sasha. Wow. Wow. Wow. 10 by far. Easily their best so far and I think the best of the night. That was amazing.
Feel like David and Nancy were underscored.
And that’s the sort of routine you never saw with Laurie and Val. It actually utilized her gym skills! It was also refreshing to see a contemporary not focused on pain and melodrama (because most can’t pull it off like rashad). Should’ve tied val and Normani at least!
Now if Sasha and Simone do not get 4-10’s-there is something wrong with this picture….
Although I will say, if I were Sasha, I would’ve had Simone do more floor work dancing on her own-capitalize on her gymnastics strengths more but whatever that’s just my thoughts….
Well….Erika went out on a high? She was fun while it lasted just wish gleb would have pushed her more. This could have been a really fun pairing.
And the right couple went home!! ????????
And if you don’t mind me saying but Erika’s reaction does not surprise me in the least bit-quite bitchy ??
Rashad Normani and Simone are the best of the night
Not sorry to see Erika gone but Damn Tom why’d you take so long to say it
My prediction is Nick will likely go next week
I have a theory regarding Normani. I’m might be giving the judges more credit than they deserve, but I think they think this is as good as Normani’s going to get, which is why she keeps getting high scores.
For Rashad, it wasn’t the song; it was the style of dance. Evermore would have been great for a waltz. If they assigned him that style, it would not have looked weird (not that I think it did!).
Nancy and Artem- One of my favorite songs She did great I don’t think Nancy gets how really talented she is.Those 9’s are fair I can live with that.
Simone and Sasha- Crappy package though I don’t think it is enough to hurt her in votes. Oh wow great dance I’m happy with those scores.
No surprise that Erika went home. A snarky attitude does not play well with the main demographic.
The judges were awful tonight all the good dances got low balled. And not surprising at all that Erika went home.
How many of Normani’s dances have had a high kick?? How many times is Val going to use that trick? Paso doble, rumba, foxtrot, cha cha. 4/5…
She did great, I kinda wish she hadn’t been wearing heels on that one. It would’ve been four 9s for me, I’m with Len on this one. CAI gets carried away sometimes with the “perfection” comments. But I LOVE that song! And I love Mulan!
Next week, with the stupid boys x girls team you have the best dancers of the competition on one team and the best choreographers on the other, so it’s gonna be interesting… Aand one of the contestants is in a girl group…
I sent all my votes to Nick tomght – I don’t call I go thru the abc.com website – even though I detest the Bachelor /ette shows because I found him to be likable and hardworking. Not sorry to see Erika go. Who is she even?I also believed after reading the mods opinions that he would be in jeopardy and I wanted Erika to go home before Nick. I love love love Sasha and Emma and their partners, and I hope either Rashad or Simone wins!
Where is #judgesintegrity?
There’s some serious shocking elimination territory next week. All the low hanging fruit are gone, all that’s left are stars that either have big fanbases and/or are good dancers. I gave Nancy all my online votes and Rashad all my phone votes, although I think Rashad is killing it in votes and will be fine regardless, but Nancy may need the votes. Next week we’re definitely going to see whose getting the votes and who isn’t.
Not your imagination. I also thought erika a bit hostile. Those “thank yous” seemed very curt and she seemed dismissive of Gleb’s compliments. Kind of erases the goodwill her package made me feel toward her.
I must say, the live performances were great but I HATED the pauses they engendered for each dance. I discovered it wasn’t even just my donny hatred. It was annoying each time (no hate to auli’i though I adore her)
I love Disney Night so much! That was a great opening. I always love to see Alfonso back in the ballroom!
Rashad and Emma: That was such a charming dance and his package was so funny! I’d give it all nines. (Maybe an 8.5?) That seven was uncalled for. It may not have been his best dance but that seven was undeserved. We know he’s killing it in the votes!
Nick and Peta: Nick is just so likable and very good for a novice! He is definitely the best bachelor to be on the show. That was some hard choreography and he handled it well. Overall a very cute dance. I’d give it one nine and three eights. And lol at Nick in those shorts! 🙂
Erika and Gleb: I like seeing a different side of her that is more sweet than sexy. Glad that she’s not one-note. I think that was her best dance and she looked beautiful.I think her score is fair. 🙂
Heather and Maks: This was so cute and fun! I think the choreo could have been bit more complicated. I’m fine with having Heather on the show but I think she needs difficult to match her ability. It was full of energy and really captured the spirit of Disney Night. Scores were fair. 🙂
Bonner and Sharna: Lol at the package! I think he is improving but then he has moments where he’s stiff. But it was still very exciting and I loved their costumes! Scores were fair.
Normani and Val: Normani seems so sweet and I wish Val would let her talk more :/ Maybe I’m crazy, but I loved their paso! Always great to get a throwback to the early seasons of DWTS. Maybe I would have given it two tens instead of three but overall a great dance.
David and Lindsay: My favorite costumes of the night! David is just so likable and he handled the jive very well. It’s not the easiest dance. 🙂 I think he showed massive improvement because like the judges said, he never missed a beat. Very fun, great choreography, and a great guy dancing! Scores were fair, but maybe another eight?
Nancy and Artem: Omg I love Nancy this season and Artem as well! Can’t remember if it was Carrie Ann or Julianne who said this, but I agree she was the most princess-like out of everyone! I was glad to see her embrace the character and have fun with the dance. I think the scores were fair, and I hope she makes the finals 🙂
Simone and Sasha: Yay they got tens! And Auli’i Cravalho should be in more Disney movies. She has a beautiful voice! Simone looked like a dancer tonight and she is improving a ton. A great way to end the show and great choreography from Sasha. 🙂
Elimination: I pretty much expected Erika and Gleb. Glad that she went out on a high note, though! It was a great night but I’m not sure how I feel about next week’s theme. I hope is does not fail.
Watching the Leafs win so wasn’t watching but caught Nancy and Artem — they are doing great , judges still stingy but it’s moving in the right direction for this team. I hope she gets to stick around
Although I thought Rashad and Emma danced well, and the song was from Beauty and the Beast and that should have worked in their favour, the song was a new one and kind of …eh… and they went first …and they were called safe right away… and the judges were commenting/marking as if they were on crack. Hmpfh. What agenda are TPTB working on?
The dances in the middle of the show were not exciting to me personally.
I really enjoyed Nancy and Simone’s songs as well as their dances. I enjoyed David for being David and I thought he did a great job – especially as a non-dancer. Realistically, hisquality of dance is not the same. As that of professional dancers or performers, but the dude has moves! I did think that Simone had a detached look on her face a couple of times as if she was thinking too much, but the chores and the performance were awesome.
I love the original song from Mulan. I love the Mulan movie. I did not love this performance.
But on a more positive note, Artem got a haircut and shaved, he looks super hot!! ???
Haven’t been posting much this season, but I’m totally on board for Rashad. I also love Simone and I do like Normani (despite Val and his hectic choreo and mouth) and although I was prepared to see the entitled Nancy I’d always heard about, I’ve genuinely enjoyed many of her dances. The eliminations after tonight are all going to be rough.
My hope is that it’s Bonner – nothing wrong with him, and I think it was his best dance – but I think he’s near his limit of ability. Nick has been tolerable for a Bachelor, but I’d also be fine if he left. Better yet, it’d be Heather – but I think she has another week or two left in her.
Calling Heather for the axe next week – mid-table, disappointing dance, questionable fanbase, C-Bro fans focusing on Normani as Maks is still injured.
Bye bye, Heather, and good riddance.
My thoughts on the night, by running order:
Rashad (Emma): Package was Disney cheese, but other than that it was okay I thought. Maybe too much of the “he’s not concentrating” vibe, because I think he is. The dance was good, maybe a LITTLE stilted at times, but definitely not as bad as Carrie Ann scored it. Especially given the scores she handed out later in the night. I think he’s safe because I think he’s getting tons of votes. I’d have given him AT LEAST the score Nick and Heather were given.
Nick (Peta): His best dance IMO. And I loved that he got into the fun/goofiness of the dance. Not worthy of 9s. Straight 8s maybe. And he’s been in the bottom two twice. I don’t see him sticking around much longer.
Erika (Gleb): Not at all surprised she went home. If it wasn’t this week, it was going to be next week. Plus, they sorta needed to even out the numbers for the “battle of the bands” thing they’re doing next week. I just never connected with her, and I agree with the scores she got. It was decent, not stellar.
Heather (Alan): At this point, Alan is more Heather’s partner than Maks. I think it was a good idea to not have her giving pointers to Maks, but COME. ON. Her being “Oh I think I can do jazz well?” That was a load of horse manure. I thought their dance was fun and enjoyable, but nothing near what it should have been based on her jazz experience. I guess I’m okay with the scores. Maybe one less 9.
Bonner (Sharna): Well that package was silly. And I was wrong. That song is not a good tango song. And Bonner’s not at the point where he can make up for that. I agree with what others have said; it might have been too early for him, physically, to come on the show. Scores were fair, I thought. He’s probably not going to last much longer than Nick, however. I just don’t think he’s got the voting bloc to knock out any of the higher scorers.
Normani and Val: I don’t even really listen to the judges after her dances anymore. Just lots of tongue bathing. I’ve taken to muting their – or should I say Val’s – conversations with Erin as well. A good dance, and I love this song, but I don’t think I’d have given it a 39. Straight 9s or maybe one 10 thrown in. And OF COURSE, she ends up with the high score of the night. After last week, she was ripe for a redemption “arc,” and TPTB milked it.
David (Lindsay): Good dance, but the speed of the jive didn’t do him any favors. I don’t know that it was worse than Erika’s rather stiff Viennese Waltz, so I would have maybe scored him the same as her. I think he’s safe for a bit though. There’s still more cannon fodder in Nick and (probably) Bonner. Then it’ll be a question of his fanbase.
Nancy (Artem): I do wonder if the insecurity/putting herself down is just a part of her process. Because she pretty much always comes out with a great dance. Decent amount of content, I thought, and she handled it well. I wouldn’t call it a comedy routine (that one was Nick) but it was fun. And I am SO GLAD Artem seems to have learned from his mistakes with Lea. He’s not pitting her against anyone but herself/her personal best. I am loving their partnership. I’m biased because she’s my favorite this season, but I would not have given it a lower score than Normani’s. I think the scores were pretty fair, but I think it was just as good if not better than Normani’s. Idk if she’s this season’s Jennifer Grey, but that would be awesome. She definitely seems to be inching her way up the leaderboard.
Simone (Sasha). Oh yay, the bad edit. She must be getting more votes than TPTB’s golden couple. I think it was a good idea to use Simone’s gymnastics experience, and this was a great dance to do so. I’d have scored this at least as high as Normani’s. It was just a great dance.
I have pretty low expectations for the boy band vs. girl group thing. The last time they did anything close to this (the Beyonce vs. James Brown thing) it was honestly pretty meh.
I’d say either Nick or Bonner is next out. Heather might need to watch out as well. I think aside from trying to push the #NotAPro schtick, TPTB aren’t really trying to help/pimp Heather. And given that her claim to fame is Glee – which ended a couple of years ago and wasn’t popular with the usual DWTS demographic – her vote numbers are probably not stellar. I could see David knocking her out.
Vin that sounds amazing.
Unfortunately, I now have a stomach ache. I’m not used to that much sugar.
Overall, kind of an underwhelming Disney night. For me, that was in part because they used “newer” less nostalgic songs. Nancy, Simone, and Normani stood out, Rashad got screwed, and Heather really failed at her “gimme” week. There was no reason the professional jazz dancer couldn’t get a perfect score, but instead Maks had to choreo what might have been the worst jazz I’ve ever seen from a good dancer.
I’m not shocked to see Erika leave, but I am a little sad. I really liked her, and I felt bad that the judges (and a lot of fans) focused on her “rich, fake boobs self.” I saw a clear double standard in the way she was talked about and the way Bonner was talked about. Her packages and statements didn’t help that perception, though. That being said, she never really reached her potential, and I blame a lot of that on Gleb, honestly. I really hope Gleb takes the off season to brush up on his choreo. He has been, IMO, a huge let down in the choreography department with Erika and Jana. I actually think he was the worst choreographer out of the guys this season and I’m wondering if other people were ghosting for him on the Russian and UK versions of the show.
#Fictionfan14 Uh judges integrity? What is that? ?????
I wonder if they’ve started deciding who goes first by who they want to be underscored? Because it didn’t used to be this way, where the person going first was underscore. I mean, the judges are idiots, but they aren’t THAT huge of idiots. 🙂
I can’t believe they give Simone a bad edit
I’m not from the US but correct me if I’m wrong, Simone is America’s Sweetheart, she won 5 Olympic medalist (heck, she’s like the most decorated gymnast ever) she has a great background stories and she is so sweet (Laurie also sweet by the way)
If they are planning to give her the same edit as they did Nastia, don’t you guys think it will be backfire on them? I meant, I am sure Nastia is a great person but she seems cold and I can’t connect with her while she was on the show
I bet she will get so much better edit if she got pair with Val (I am rolling my eyes now)
Right now from what am I seeing, they are trying to push Normani onto finale just like they did with Ginger (last week she’s not even on Top 3 on overall score and now she’s the runner up). On Ginger season, Wanya got screwed while, on this season I am pretty sure it’s either Nancy or David.
Rashad and Emma may not be my personal favorite this season, but the guy can really dance well. I didn’t enjoy the push for him to see the movie (thought it was rather tacky even for Emma), nonetheless Rashad is a great example of how this show is supposed to be for a contestant: a fun ride that allows the viewer to engage in the fun alongside the contestant. I didn’t quite catch too much of his dance, but I will say it wasn’t worth 7’s at all.
Nick… I have a problem with how his packages are edited. They seem a bit too forced. As far as his Jazz routine is concerned though I have to give props to Peta for going with a vaudeville style jazz. Very whimsical movement with definite care to artistry. Overall this Jazz was way better than Heather’s (Maks’s) kindergarten Jazz routine.
My feelings for Erika are about as transparent as her personality, she had me going for a second with her package, but then completely broke that trance with her reaction to her own elimination. The Viennese waltz was lovely, but it didn’t gel as well as the many other Viennese waltzes this show’s choreographers have produced. I think that has a lot to do with Erika and Gleb’s egos clashing. I wish she’d been partnered with Val or Mark, but I don’t run casting for this show so yeah.
Heather shouldn’t have let Maks choreograph a Jazz routine for them. First off, Maks has even admitted to being shabby in these alternative dance styles so he creates duds. Second, Heather has most likely seen Frozen to know that the entire dance mimicked that entire scene, which is Anna twirling and bobbling her way out of the castle. Overall like CAI and Len and HEATHER I’m dissatisfied with this performance.
Okay, Bonner’s impression of Wreck-it-Ralph was pretty cool, and Sharna makes a really cute Vanillope (side note: she could keep the dark wig on forever and I’d be happy). This tango though was wack, not in a bad way however, but in the sense that the costumes totally took a stab at the style that it threw a lot of people off. I do agree with Len that there was enough tango content to stay true to the style, but I noticed that whenever Bonner does ballroom he tends to at least attempt to lead Sharna which is pretty great to see however I notice sharp eye catching moments of disjointedness between them. It’s like a power struggle, this week was the first time I think he genuinely lead her throughout the in hold steps.
Normani and Val’s Paso Doble was cool, powerful, and entertaining, but was it perfect? Absolutely not, and it infuriates me to no end. The turns where so sharp and quick I think it caused her to dance a beat ahead of Val. I didn’t care for the sticks, but I’m just happy that Normani isn’t as cold as Janel or Rumer.
I should go back to watch David’s performance before I can post my opinion, but this guy just keeps hitting it big with the viewers. A gentleman, father, husband, team player, jolly fella, who realizes his limitations but doesn’t display them negitively. He embraces them and learns to move beyond them.
Nancy is the only one who demonstrated the true nature of a Jazz routine. As free spirited a dance jazz can be, I tend to find jazz routines more compelling when the dancer can use their own integrity to sell the dance versus a character, and Nancy did just that.
Simone was strangely eventful but non eventful as well. I literally just forgot her dance only to have it all come crashing back to me a minute later. Okay, so I think Simone was a bit too in tune with Moana as a character. Not a bad thing, but I felt like I was watching a movie with acting so fierce it wasn’t coming across as real. This is also a gripe I have about all contemporary routines based on movies, when James Maslow and Peta danced to Let It Go I just couldn’t get into it because of Peta’s attitude. Idk it was pretty good, but not memorable.
I do think that Erika’s elimination was kinda cringey, but hey it’s XXspensive to be Erika and I don’t think TPTB could afford that bill anymore! Lmao jk ?
Shout out to Simone and Sasha for subtly including a rather challenging gymnastics move in that dance. Most of the times the gymnasts do things like aerials and stuff that they’ve been doing since they were probably 8 or so. Simone, on the other hand, did a full twisting switch leap. In gymnastics, the dance elements used in floor exercise for the elite (like Olympic and stuff) gymnasts are put into 5 categories of difficulty. That full twisting switch leap is in the second hardest category of dance elements. A lot of Olympic gymnasts don’t have a dance element that hard in their floor exercise. It was nice to see her do such a difficult element from her sport, but at the same time it was one that people probably didn’t recognize as hard because it’s a dance element and not tumbling. If they had put, say, a double layout or something in a routine that would just look over the top. Good for her and Sasha for doing something difficult but understated.
This is the FIFTH week Simone has had no interview with Erin after her dance (in other words, she has never had an Erin post-dance interview). And you can’t really say they were running out of time, because they made time for Nancy, who danced right before Simone, to have an interview.
I have a question to those of you who have been watching this show for awhile now I stopped watching regularly after the All Stars season and when I watched they didn’t really have contemporary or jazz. What I’m wondering is do you think Maks was really that bad at choreographing the jazz dance for Heather or do you think it is possible that he purposely sabotaged her a bit.
Think about it he has been hearing fans say over the last several weeks that they like her better with Alan (and I think that is because Alan focuses on her instead of himself) and he knew he would be stepping back in the following week. Why give her a dance that she could potentially get perfect scores then have to come in following that and have people say she was better off with Alan? Instead if he puts her down a little he steps back in, they do well and he can project this attitude of how he saved her or at the very least say the scores with him were no worse than with Alan. Maybe I’ve read too many of your conspiracy theories but it is something that jumped into my head immediately while watching.
My favorite dances were: Simone, Normani, Nancy and Rashad (who was definitely underscored). Val choreographed and performed a beautiful paso and that whole segment where Heather and Alan asked to see a video of the lift and Maks said that he was bringing in the mats because he just came up with it was so funny. I actually liked Nick and Peta’s dance. But I have a feeling they’ll be leaving next week. Overall, it was a so-so Disney week.
Chayse, I’m not going to make assumptions over Gleb’s choreo because obviously I don’t have a clue about what he does. All I’ll say is that the Strictly pros get a lot of help behind the scenes and have done for the last few years. It was even rumoured in the UK that Artem had a falling out with producers in his final season because they were trying to interfere in his routines since the new executive producer took charge that year. Probably one of the reasons why he jumped ship to be honest.
Erika was curt I thought cause she was trying to not burst into tears I think she was really embarrassed and just wanted to be alone already to cry. It looked to me like she was really embarrassed maybe she tries to always be like the tough sexy girl. Throughout the judges comments and when tom and Erin were talking to her after elimination she was really fighting tears that’s why she was curt I think. Gleb looked really sad too. TBH I’d rather have her over nick cause I don’t enjoy his dancing but if she hadn’t gone this week she should probably have gone the next one anyways.
Normani and Vals paso was really disappointing. The stickbpart was stupid I really wanted to see some actual paso. I also thought Simone was overscored and I’m tired of them giving her crappy packages. I also don’t really see any sort of chemistry between Bonner and sharna tbh.
I also felt like if heather is a pro jazz dancer that should have been amazing but it wasn’t. I’ve been underwhelmed the whole season by her.
I feel really bad for Simone I feel like the show was contorting itself and drooling the producers to get her on and she probably heard all this stuff from Laurie about how great it was (even though Laurie was pimped to the point of barfing), and now she’s on the show and they’re totally undermining her and painting her in a bad light and messing with her self esteem. It makes me really mad.
So glad I didn’t tune in live for Disney week. I would have gone crazy over the judges’ critiques and scores. Thank you to all who contributed their thoughts. I will be looking for the dances now. Only sure thing for me is that I will only be watching my favorite couples.
Loved the opening number.
Rashad hugely shafted on scores and Erin time. Simone shafted on Erin time as well, again.
Normani over-scored imo and more air time. If Normani makes the finals with uninspiring Val over Simone or Heather for that matter, sayonara dwts. Val isn’t Derek, he hasn’t earned praise for his work and has to be given ringers. It’s old, boring & tired as is Maks.
Nancy, I’m wanting the final two to be Rashad & Nancy. She delivers every week and is so likable & relatable. And if the underscoring of Rashad ruins his chances for the mirrorball trophy…… Why would people want to tune in season after season to see the producers force the same people into the finales who didn’t earn it over others who did & the audience wants. I don’t think Heather & Normani are getting the votes that Rashad, Nancy & David are getting. Not by a mile. imo
Erika deserved to go. If she insists on looking like a cold biotch, even if she isn’t deep down & keeps a wall up, that’s on her. She’s competing against many others. No one has Dr. Phil time to invest in her issues when there are other contestants who are more open & grateful. Erika did seem resentful when she lost but chose the correct, grateful, words.
Did past winners ever get called at the bottom in jeopardy? I don’t recall Bindi, Nyle, Laurie ever to be at the bottom. I hope this means bye bye to Val’s chances this year.
Erin calling Rashad safe before announcing his vote number has led some to think he’s safe next week. I saw a post on twitter saying she normally votes for Rashad but as he was called safe this week she voted for Normani instead as she is not safe? It was totally misleading and unethical of the show to do this to Rashad during the Erin interview and not some other couples. How many people now think they don’t have to vote for him? Dance first, underscored, voting manipulation, this could be fatal tptb interference. I’ve made a formal complaint.
I can’t wait to hear what Courtney has to say about last nights show in her Power Rankings.
This is the second time that Rashad and Emma have had a crappy song to match their music. First it was their Samba to Swalla and now this week.
Ok…I’ve had a chance to watch the remaining dances I didn’t get to see!
Simone & Sasha’s was the dance of the night IMHO! Loved how Sasha put gymnnastics moves in there.
It’s too bad Maks can’t let go of his ego to allow the PRO JAZZ dancer choreograph. That routine was meh. Heather performed it well but it was just meh.
Also loved Nancy and Artem! Nancy is doing so good!!!
Normani and Val’s Paso was bleh. Liked the first half. Hated the rest!
Sharna and Bonner were ok.
David and Lindsay were also great!!! Lindsay is KILLING IT with the choreo for David! He looks pretty damn good for a 40 yr old baseball player! MUCH better than a 31 yr old Professional Dancer who’s tryna play like she’s #NOTADANCER!
THE RIGHT person went home!
Nobleze, I’m doing that too this season. I watch David, Rashad, Nancy and Simone packages and dances and that’s it.
I do appreciate the Blog Squad here for watching and writing about the good, the bad and the ugly so that those of us that wish to abstain from certain parts of this season, yet still enjoy reading about it here, can do so.
It used to be that the future winner was never in jeopardy, with the exception of Jennifer Grey. That ended with the beginning of massive manipulation of the show and it happens more regularly – I think. I haven’t looked at it in a long time. I suppose I should to see if it’s still true or not.
Perhaps you couldn’t connect with Nastia while she was on the show, Fey, because of the EDITS.
I caught some of the dances on You Tube. That way I can enjoy my favorites and ignore the rest of the crap. They’ve been setting the almighty “fam’ up to compete against one another from the start and they accomplished it last night, but boy did they have to twist themselves into pretzels to make that happen. Next week why not just give Rashad and Emma the funeral march song and be done with it? SMH, maybe I’d better not give them any ideas.
Caught up on the dances today.
Simone was by far my favorite, Sasha’s best choreo so far (if it was all his). I saw the Harmonizers out in full force on Simone’s YT vid, complaining that it was a gymnastic floor routine. Didn’t hear them complaining when Normani did a jazz routine every week.
@Susan 2, they’re my favorites, too! They give off so much positive vibes. Very enjoyable to watch in their BTS packages and in their dances. I hope they end up as the final 4. And agreed about this site; can’t do without it when the season is on. Or even during off-season. I find that it’s better to read about all the goings-on in the show here than watching them myself. I enjoy reading the different views of the long-time posters here and even the level-headed new ones. I must admit, I get a kick out of some of the new ones who post gems like that “tough hoe to row” comment from last season. Truth be told, it still makes me laugh and I secretly hope something like that comes up in the comments again. LOL
I’m new here at the comments, I’ve been folowwing puredwts for some time and love it!
I know these type of shows have manipulation but its getting to a point of being so obvious it makes me sick! Will forever be bitter about all star season and really don’t care if people tell me to get over it…
This season its like they are manipulating every little detail and i hate it! Come on even Erin time! Do they really think people don’t see it? Or they just don’t care what viewers think and just want to please the pro’s (but just the one they adore)?
Yesterday there were so many unfair things i can not even…
Honestly wishing the final is David, Simone, Rashad and Nancy! So sick of EGOS in the final!
I was extremely appalled with David’s scores tonight!! Did you guys see Lindsay’s face when they gave the scores?? She KNEW that they were manipulating it all. Her face says it all. David did a perfectly great jive, full of content, and he got 7s?!!? I really hope this doesn’t continue. Also noted that David did not get any Erin time this week. They’re really trying to shit on him this week. Very annoyed.
Power rankings are up:
https://www.puredwts.com/2017/04/18/puredwts-season-24-week-5-power-rankings/
It was great seeing Alfonso do his Broadway thing and was a pretty fair to middlin’ Disney Night.
I will probably tune out next week and read results here. I think “Gender Y vs Gender X” battles are boring and outdated.
I wonder if Normani being in jeopardy was significant. Maybe she will be a relatively early shocking elimination? How common is it for the person who is eliminated to have been in jeopardy in the previous couple of weeks? I think that Charo, Mr. T and Erika had were all in jeopardy the week before their elimination.
