Private Members Area – DWTS Season 24 Week 9 Discussion
It’s time again for Dancing with the Stars chatter! Share your thoughts and insights on this week’s Dancing with the Stars from the comfort of the Pure DWTS Private Members Area. If you’re not a Pure DWTS Insider yet, you can do so here. If you are, then I look forward to the discussion in the comments.
What did you think of the semi-finals? 2 dances is a lot to learn in a week. I’m always impressed with the stars this week. Was the scoring appropriate?
How about the elimination? I’m getting a ton of comments on our contact form that people are pissed off that DWTS is a popularity contest and that the best dancer shouldn’t go home. First of all, it can be debated who is the best dancer. Second, it’s always been a popularity contest. In my opinion, you just have to accept that. It’s not changing and it’s always been that way, but I digress.
We’re so close to the end. Any predictions?
Seemed to me like Sasha took it very, very hard but Simone was almost too glad to GTFO of there. I hope many good things are in store for them, beyond the ballroom floor.
Power rankings are great as always. Also agree that the member talking about race (casanova?), is a little off in their reasoning. My opinion actually falls between the two sides on this one. Yes, it would have been an important statement to have three finalists of color, but Simone leaving and David staying I don’t think really changes the PR around it. Why? – Because after the finale, we all know the clips they play on GMA, and everywhere else for the first couple of days is the announcement of the final TWO pairs, and who wins. So TWO finalists of color will (prob) be shown, and the impact is the same on the general public, who don’t pay attn to much other than the dramatic announcement.
So I see David leaving in 3rd, the show still gets the demographic they are looking for in having two finalists of color (not saying it was planned – just the I don’t see 2 vs 3 being a big PR deal), and it’s a toss up btwn Normani and Shad.
You know I thought Normani would drop at the semis, so I still wouldn’t be surprised to see Shad win. But I do think the actual critiquing of Normani, and not placing her at the top of the leaderboard signals a win for her.
And if anyone had time to think about my last question –
whether having Heather and Simone here –as deflectors– to the val pimpage was done on purpose, I would love to hear your thoughts. Especially now that simone is gone. Seriously everyone I know that watches the show non-fanatically, kept referring to them as “the gymnast” and “the dancer”. Everyone thought it was a showdown btwn them, and no one really paid attn to the over scoring, pimpage of Val/Normani and she just scooted right throw while the bodies dropped around her.
And lastly – courtney – your thoughts on Normani not getting the votes have basically been proven correct. Thus the “you MUST vote” message continually being preached . David must be KILLING IT in the votes to have them this worried.
Thanks to everyone here – I appreciate the dialogue. I have barely watched the show this season, just YT’ed most of it. I have lost interest in following it each week. I think it’s due to the lack of surprise. No – not surprise eliminations, it’s just a repeat of WORSHIP, NITPICK, critique, “surprise elim”, biased scores, etc. You can just insert names into each part, except for the ending lady of course. lol
Heather always did seem like a red herring to me, sarina. A sacrificial lamb. By the time she realized it, it was too late to stop the Normani train.
I think it’s sheer coincidence that we have two black finalists for season 24. I doubt that TPTB are factoring race into anything, for or against, even though I found Casanova’s comments to be intriguing. The fact that we’ve only had one black female winner and none at all on the Pros proves to me that TPTB are not thinking about race at all. It’s an ongoing oversight. I think they’re too busy thinking about Val!
I don’t think that race was part of the producers’ decision much at all. They might have casually thought, “Wouldn’t that be nice” but I don’t think they tried to influence that outcome.
Once again, thank you to all the Mods here for all your hard work during the season! This season has been the worst I’ve ever seen! Pure DWTS has made it tolerable at least.
So thanks to Courtney, Heidi, Vogue, John and Lori for all your hard work!!!
Awww you are welcome and ((((((THANK YOU)))))))!!!!!!xxxx
I agree KellyK! The mods here rock! I’ve actually boycotted a lot of the show (and will be doing so on Monday and Tuesday), but I still follow Pure and Courtney on twitter. They are the only thing that has made, what has for me been the WORST season ever bearable.
I don’t think I’ve ever been this disheartened about this show as I am now. And I’m including the All-Star season when all this manipulation first become so blatant. At least, that’s how I remember it…
At this point, I’m only watching so I can hang with my cyber-friends I watch the show with. Can’t wait for this mockery to be done.
Thank you Court, PH, Vogue, Lori (and John!) for *your* excellent job! You help make sense of the nonsensical, and I truly appreciate that you haven’t thrown in the towel on this blog. Because other than my cyber-friends, your wit and wisdom and snark are what make watching the show bearable.
Much appreciation and affection!!!
Thanks to all the fun comments posters and the mods.
I have a feeling I won’t be watching upcoming seasons so deeply, and won’t be watching Jr at all, but I will always be watching puredwts.
Awww, you’re welcome. xxx
I hope so, Nukegrrrl!!
If Rashad and Emma win, I’ll be crying with joy and so happy. If Normani and Val win, I will be so disgusted. This season will go down as one of the worst. We will soon see.
Thanks All for everything!!xx
