DWTS Season 24 After Party on GMA (Video)
I looked for this earlier, but for some reason I didn’t get Al’s DM!! But here it is now, for anyone having withdrawal. 🙂

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)
You know, I wish Kelly Ripa hadn’t already settled on a co-host. That would have been a great post for Rashad!
Wow, Colleen! I totally agree with that! Rashad would be 1000 times better than Ryan Seacrest. Sorry to say, but It’s like Kelly Ripa and her BFF , but with Rashad it would b like Kelly and Michael…which I LOVED!
But, I’m kinda over Kelly too. I’d like it to change to something like…. LIVE with Emma and Sasha … Or Rashad ?
I thought this was supposed to be a celebration of the WINNING couple
not Val’s self promotion tour
Totally agree with Narice on Val. It always has to be about him. He doesn’t know how not to hog the spotlight. So glad that Rashad and Emma won, and I loved seeing David & Lindsey take 2nd.
I am so, so glad that Rashad and Emma won. Emma has been with DWTS for 7 seasons, I think. This girl really and truly has the talent to work with a determined Rashad and he met the challenge.
I just do not feel that David and Lindsey took 2nd place. I feel that the producers felt that they had no other choice but to “GIVE” it to David Ross. I still do not feel that he had those many votes. Even though I have/had a problem with Val, I felt that the 2nd place should have gone to Val and Normani. She was the better dancer than David Ross.
@justine1 – THEY CANNOT RIG THE VOTES. Therefore, if David & Lindsay took 2nd, it’s because they won it fair and square. The producers didn’t “give” them anything, and if they honestly could rig the votes, I fully believe they would have given the trophy to Normani.
When are people going to learn that it’s not about the BEST dancer. It’s a number of factors all rolled into one. Rashad and Emma and David and Lindsay were the perfect match-ups.
Plain and Simple, America fell in love with them.
The judges tried to gently push David out of the way, but his fan base was too strong so they had to let it ride. In hindsight, I think they pimped Normani so heavily this season because they were worried she wouldn’t make the finals, and a fair assumption IMO that Simone would have displaced her if not for the way they basically trashed her. Many viewers are tired of watching professional dancers compared by the judges to the non-dancers, and there’s also starting to be quite a bit of Val fatigue with the general audience.
# Rose1. I agree there is Val fatique. However, I don’t think having some dance experience is an advantage. There were 4 girls in this category and only one made the finals, so the voters take care of that, and we get to see some great dancing. I read some comments that Heather proved why she shouldn’t have been on the show, but that was a hiphop jazz number, not a waltz. I think a mix is good.
Enjoyed the after party video, but (I could be imagining this) but I felt that Normani and Val were getting apologetic handling of them; especially since they had them on GMA throughout the season putting them in the lime-light. And, Val getting to be “all about me” as usual.
The subject of “rigging votes” has been disgusted in past seasons here at Pure, and as Courtney said, “they cannot rig the votes.” If my memory serves me right, PHeidi & Courtney explained that ABC & DWTS have certain rules they have to follow, and rigging the votes is one of them. They would suffer serious consequences that would damage the network & the show permanently. Being a member of Pure season after season, and reading the moderators points of view, brought me to the point that TPTB (along with the help from the judges) don’t have to rig the votes. They try to sway votes through the way they set up the music, dance styles, media emphasizing a certain couple (s) choosing what to show in the celeb’s package, judges points (over-scoring/underscoring) and comments (or lack of comments) etc. This season was the icing on the cake and surreal in the manipulation and I don’t think TPTB and judges thought viewers would notice. Well, the joke is on them!
And, I agree with Sandy, America fell in love with the winner and the runner up.
You can’t just make a blanket statement like that, Roy. Every season has it’s own set of circumstances and it’s own set of dancers. This season, the ringers didn’t make it, other seasons they do – obviously since Val has two MBTs. Some seasons the pimpage works, other seasons it doesn’t.
I said at the very beginning of this season that I didn’t think the show could handle having four or five women who were obvious ringers of varying degrees. In ANY season, Simone, Nancy, Normani and Heather would be considered the ringer – the person to beat. For a variety of reasons – they likely split a lot of voting by people who are more inclined to be purists and who vote for people who can dance – we’ve had several people come on here and proclaim that dancing is more important.
Now, Simone and Nancy are a different kind of ringers than Normani and Heather, for sure. Normani and Heather are actual dancers, while Simone and Nancy have backgrounds that are conducive to being good dancers plus the fanbases that usually do very well on DWTS. I think that perhaps Heather shined a very bright light on the whole “dancers versus non-dancers” argument that always occurs on DWTS. Most of the time it’s just one person and it’s not as noticeable. This season there were FOUR of them with Heather being an actual professional dancer. That got a lot of attention. Even Nick vocalized it, saying that the men had “no chance” of winning up against those women. But EVERYONE noticed this season that the men were at a serious disadvantage, mainly because of the attention that Heather got. Suddenly, the big ringer are up against massive, very charismatic underdogs. And there ain’t nothing an American audience likes more than an underdog. Especially two as charming and lovable as Rashad and David.
And there you go. Next season we might be back to one well camouflaged ringer who manages to win. Like, say, a Janel type who manages to hide most of her experience except from me and Court. 😉 That she’s camouflaged doesn’t make the fact that she’s a ringer less of an advantage.
The thing is I understand the frustration, especially if you’re a big fan of dance and not a fan of baseball.
It comes down to popularity no question, but even the show concedes you have to be at least “good enough” to win. David came in a not so great dancer and improved but leaves still a not so great dancer. So he didn’t get good reviews initially, nor should he have by the judges, but boy the show made up for it by giving him two major highlights for the Cubs, wearing Cubs logos for the first dance and the freestyle with all the free publicity the Chicago Cubs franchise could grab, including skyping in his teammates and cross pollinating with showing his dances and voting number at Wrigley Field. That was major league fan pimpage for votes. And it worked. It got a guy with bad posture to second place. Another guy with bad posture won the whole thing over a much more likable and innovative dance duo, Paige and Mark not two seasons previous.
But we’ve seen this movie before, many times that fanbase just overtakes dance, regardless of who are first, second, third… it’s how this show is wired. It is finding the right mix of fanbase and strong dancing to see you through to the end that is key. But even then the producers will screw with the narrative to make a contestant appear weak. If the fanbase is solid it won’t do much, but if the fanbase is dependent on how the contestant performs week after week then the contestant will get in trouble. That’s why strong dancers I feel get a lot of pressure to keep the momentum going week after week, if they falter, even once they’re Heather Morrised out. And yet David keeps plugging away, almost dropping Lindsay but that’s okay. He needs to grow. …and of course the growth is never lifting Lindsay over your head ever again.
So for me the best that could happen happened. A heavily dance/score pimped contestant vs a heavily fan base pimped contestant and neither won. But it also underscored for me, that on this show if you’re a great dancer it doesn’t mean anything. So in that respect it’s a little sad to think that great dancing on a show that highlights dance doesn’t get recognition from voters the way a great world series does.
The teddy bear and arriving late….Val buddy that’s desperation at its best. If I tried that and it came out with his voice I would just not Be a happy camper. Very bummed that they didn’t get to dance a lot though the game was cute but I’d prefer a dance from each of them like gma used to do
I know very little about ‘proper’ dance steps and form for the different dances. Sure I can see butts sticking out, missed steps, stomping, etc. BUT I think a lot of people who enjoy this show really gravitate to dancers who are underdogs, who work hard, who are humble and charming, and who improve.
Also I give votes to dancers who seem to be screwed over by the judges, especially CAI who I think is ridiculous.
I never heard of David or Rashad before the show. I have voted for both since week 1. I also vote for fave pros: i.e. Emma and Sasha and Kym. Hey, I voted for Mr. T the week he got booted because I wanted him to stay on! Don’t forget Bill Engvall and Jerry Springer – even I could see they were not very good but I voted for them anyway because they were so entertaining and humble.
I used to like Val but he is insufferable. That stunt of arriving late – so disrespectful to the hosts and the other dancers. Was he partying too much to focus on his job at DWTS? If Normani had been paired with Mark or Derek I would have voted for her some….but VAL didn’t get a single vote.
I guess if you want to watch a show that is only about proper dancing, not popularity, DWTS is not for you. Rashad and Emma winning ensures that I’ll watch next season. If they had lost, I would have been too disgusted.
As a resident of Believeland (that’s Cleveland whenever we’re not in some sports title contention) I can tell you that David Ross is not exactly a hero around here. After all, he killed the Tribe’s chances for their first World Series title in nearly 70 years! BUT – he is humble and charming and lovable and an honest-to-goodness family man with priorities in order. I’m totally a fan (and I did respect the Cubs getting their first title in over 100 years…) He threw himself into this brave new world with no expectations of getting nearly as far as he did. He enjoyed the hell out of the journey and took it for what it was.
I think a lot of people across the nation responded to him, not just the Cubs (and Red Sox) fan bases. So I for one was thrilled when someone with a beautiful outlook and joyful spirit placed higher than the professional dancer who had been tongue-bathed all season. It was a welcome echo of what this show used to be…
Did I miss Rashad and Emma on Jimmy Kimmel? Or were they not on?
I did catch them on “The Chew” today…. Just when you think Rashad couldn’t be any more perfect, you find out that he “cooks” too. What? 🙂
Sweet Emma didn’t know how to unlock the tongs.. Bless her heart, she said she only knows how to be in frame. LOL! (They were just talking about being in frame earlier).
What on earth makes you think the show had anything to do with the voting number being shown at the games or the show being put up on the big screen?? The Cubs organization can certainly do all of that without any help or input from DWTS. As for wearing Cub paraphernalia, etc – that was a choice Lindsay and David made that the show and the cubs went along with. And why not? When you’re going up against four female ringers, you use every strength you have. Just like they can use their superior ability and/or training.
Great dancing is ONLY as good as the choreographer that goes with it. Let’s get real. Normani, Nancy or Simone ALL likely would have won with Derek as their partner. Hell, he probably could have made Heather likable enough to last longer. I’m not at ALL sure that the Rashad/Emma combo pull out the win going up against Simone/Derek or Normani/Derek. Sasha did okay, but there were plenty of weeks where people said he wasn’t doing enough. And Derek/Nancy is certainly a combo that would work. And I suspect that NO ONE would be complaining about the obvious “popularity” contest that would also be involved in those pairings.
Bummer, sandy, I missed all of that! Is there another post finale media post for Rashad and Emma’s appearances? I missed some of them! And David and Lindsey too? I’m so happy for both those couples!!
I vote David’s son for DWTS Jr – kid’s a hoot!
@Heart – I just checked. Their appearance on The Chew is up on youtube.
