PureDWTS Cast Rumors & Watchout: Sean Spicer & OJ Simpson – Would DWTS Actually Go After Them?

When I started this post a few days ago amid all the joking on Twitter about recently-resigned White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer, and recently-paroled felon/former NFL star O.J. Simpson, it was mainly to reassure everyone that I didn’t think DWTS would touch either of these guys with a ten foot pole.  But as with many things DWTS-related these days, I’ve been chagrined…

…according to Page Six, apparently ABC may have actually reached out to Sean about the show:

Spicer, who announced his resignation Friday, was seen coming out of high-level meetings at ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox News in Manhattan, according to sources. A source told us some news execs “made the full-court press” as they competed to woo the high-profile spokesman — who brought in solid ratings and plenty of late-night fodder — while others “just kicked the tires.”

But there’s also speculation 45-year-old Spicer’s next stop could be showing off some spicy dance moves on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars.” Actor Zach Braff jokingly tweeted when Spicer stepped down, “Can’t wait to see Sean Spicer waltz on Dancing With the Stars.”

But a TV insider confirmed to Page Six that the dancing competition show has indeed reached out to the Beltway insider. “That has legs,” the source said.

Given the show’s questionable practices this past season, I guess I’m not totally surprised that they might reach out to someone as sensational as Sean – he would likely appeal to both the conservative-leaning main viewing demographic, and also has a bit of trainwreck appeal. Not sure how charismatic he’d be…or how good of a dancer he’d be…and my gut tells me near-perpetual punching bag Emma would probably get stuck with him. But I’d take Sean anyday over…

…*sigh* O.J., and if this show ever goes after him, I daresay we’ve jumped over a whole line of sharks and there is no hope for this show. It’s one thing to cast a somewhat scandalous political figure – but I think it’s quite another to cast someone involved in one of the most sensational murder trials of our lifetime, and whose acquittal is still a very controversial topic 20-some-odd year later. And aside from all that – O.J.’s 70 and apparently in somewhat poor health, so I’m not sure he’s physically or mentally fit for the rigors of this competition. I REALLY doubt they’d angle to cast The Juice…but Kato Kaelin? That name screams DWTS to me…

…thoughts?

ETA: Vogue here. Yesterday, Politico caught up with Sean Spicer and asked him if he was going to do Dancing With The Stars. He wouldn’t say, but, note that he did indeed meet with ABC the day before. Hmmmm….

Spicer was just back from a whirlwind day in New York City, meeting with network executives about what might come next. “This is the phase where you just say ‘Hi’ to everybody,” he said, noting there was no discussion of money or offers of employment.

“I’m not going to tell you that,” he said of whether he might be a future contestant on “Dancing with the Stars,” a possibility that came up on Wednesday in his meeting with ABC. Spicer still occupies his old office, complete with a couch and a fireplace, while Scaramucci, for now, operates out of a smaller, more modest office two doors down.
