DWTS Season 25, Week 2 (Tuesday Night) – Dancing by the Numbers!

Well, what to say about last Tuesday night? The scoring, combined with Who’s Dancing What, seems to indicate that Nick, Vanessa and Sasha are the current producer favorites.  Although I don’t think most dances are handed out last minute, I do think their favorites are picked pre-season, so there you go.

That said, I don’t know how much of a favor you’re doing Vanessa by giving her Jazz when it’s fairly well documented that her pro can’t hang in the non-ballroom/latin dance styles. He would certainly benefit from some classes if he’s going to continue on DWTS. Or at least get a ghost. Nick, on the other hand, may fare better because I don’t remember Peta sucking at Jazz or contemporary. Gleb? I don’t remember his choreo for either Jazz or Contemporary – I guess that’s not really a bad sign, since I don’t remember anything truly awful. 🙂 Read more..

DWTS Season 24 Champ Rashad Jennings Gives Dancing Advice For Terrell Owens And Derek Fisher

Dancing With The Stars Season 24 Champ Rashad Jennings has some advice for fellow athletes Terrell Owens And Derek Fisher…and it was perfect advice. Read below to see what I mean. I love Rashad. From USA Today….

“Yeah, I talked to T.O. and Derek, and I told them both you have to be vulnerable. Allow yourself to go there. Because to tell a story and paint a picture through music and allow it to flow through your body, you have to be vulnerable. You gotta be be comfortable in uncomfortable positions, which most athletes are. Most athletes are also used to gruesome hours of work. I told them it’s going to be the hardest thing you’ve ever done. Trust me. Especially if keep making it week after week; it keeps getting harder and harder.

“So I told them to relax. Not take themselves too seriously. Don’t let the judges get under your skin. Because they’re going to give you criticism. But you have to really buy into the culture of each dance. And you’re going to get to know yourself on a personal level.”

DWTS Season 25, Week 3 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

Guilty Pleasures week. I seem to recall this was something of a trainwreck last time, although I could be wrong. What to expect is probably a whole bunch of the troupe plus a whole bunch of props and probably not much DANCING.

Winners: I’m sure it’s totally a coincidence that Sasha, Nick, and Vanessa all got Jazz. :::rolls eyes::: Well, at least others will save it for when the competition gets tougher. As for Lindsey getting Jive – I don’t know if it’s necessarily a “win” but that style seems perfect for her personality.

Losers: Nikki doing V. Waltz?? Didn’t she JUST do waltz this past week?? Hosed. And Frankie doing Samba?? He can probably handle it, but his first latin is the hardest one??

ETA: And the running order is starting to come out.  Cheryl and TO are doing alright, ain’t they?

Nikki Bella and Artem – Viennese Waltz (Song: “Love on the Brain” by Rihanna)

Victoria Arlen and Val – Quickstep (Song: “Tubthumping” by Chumbawamba)
1-800-868-3413

Derek Fisher and Sharna – Cha Cha (Song: “Fresh Prince of Bel Aire” by DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince)
1-800-868-3403

Sasha Pieterse and Gleb – Jazz (Song: “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch” by the Four Tops)
1-800-868-3410

Nick Lachey and Peta – Jazz (Song: “Jump! (For My Love)” by The Pointer Sisters)
1-800-868-3408

Jordan Fisher and Lindsay – Charleston (Song: “Glory Days” by Michael Giacchino)
1-800-868-3406

Drew Scott and Emma – Argentine Tango (Song: “Red Right Hand” by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds)

PureDWTS Season 25, Week 2, Night 2 – Power Rankings

So the bar was set pretty low for the show on night #2 of this week, given that night #1 was, for the most part, a snoozefest. Did Latin Night rise to the occasion? Yes…and no.  Ehhh, sorta…I guess. If nothing else, the energy level seemed higher, though there was still some really, REALLY screwy scoring (sorry to anyone who danced in the first  half of the show – y’all were gonna get hosed, regardless), and the music department still seems to be saddling some couples with some absolutely garbage songs that have an impossibly long intro for a dance that’s already been severely truncated. Bruno seemed to be relishing the opportunity to continue his stint as “good judge” this week, to Carrie Ann & Len’s “bad judge” roles; Erin, who looked stunning on premiere night, looked more like the lead singer in a Florence + The Machine cover band last night in a dress that still has me scratching my head.

Sad to see Debbie go, but can’t really say it was entirely unexpected – I had her in my 4-couple “lost in the shuffle” club after ballroom night, while Terrell, who had an atrocious rehearsal package that I thought for sure would do him in, actually had enough support (from Cheryl’s fans, I guess) to stick around. Better to be a jerk and memorable (or at least paired with a popular pro whose fans can float you) than be polite and forgettable, I guess. I have a feeling Debbie was probably not long for this competition, though – she just looked progressively more exhausted with each dance she did, and something was probably gonna have to give by week 4, at the latest. Alan had an admirable first outing as a pro, as well, and probably earned himself a pro spot next year (side note: it feels totally weird saying “next year” instead of “next season”, when referring to DWTS…gonna take some getting used to.)

Dancing with the Stars Season 25, Week TWO (Night TWO) – Live Blog

Okay, we’re going to try this again after struggling last night. Let’s see if that fix worked or not.

BTW, the Celebrity Family Feud with Sharna, Kym, Sasha, Keo and Lindsay was pretty entertaining, although I missed the first ten minutes.

Nice little opening number in spite of the Chmerkovskiy focus and lack of Ballas.

We start off with Nikki who is looking smoking hot. I hear you on the wine, girlfriend.

“You’re like a nice russian” LOL Nikki…as opposed to?

She looks a bit uncomfortable but she’s handling the dance quite well, I think. Some odd Choreo from Artem. Overall, I enjoyed it. Not sure I’m a fan of the purple lipstick on her. Read more..

DWTS Season 25, Week 2 (Monday Night) – Dancing by the Numbers!

Well, if that wasn’t the most f@#$@# up bunch of scoring then I don’t know what is. Maybe I shouldn’t tempt fate and make it even worse tonight, but damn – that was just bad. Who in the world besides a delusional fangirl believes that Vanessa and Victoria should be tied with Jordan at the top of the leaderboard with Lindsey a full three points below them?  Don’t get me wrong, I like all the people involved, but there ain’t no way those two ladies are on par with Jordan and that far ahead of Lindsey, EVEN with the breaking of hold.  These judges desperately need Mark, with Derek very unlikely to ever return, and they are NOT doing a good job of rewarding the best choreographer they have – who choreographed an excellent dance last night. And Lindsey’s dress was just freakin’ amazing. No idea how they did that, but man!

My only critique of Mark was the break in hold and spending a beat too long in the “cocoon”.  Victoria? Her legs were too soft throughout the dance (watch her kick) – yes, I get why that might be the case, but in the past the judges went on and on (and on and on and on) about needing to score differently abled contestants the same as everyone else, yet are doing nothing but gushing over Victoria. I think Victoria is a lovely girl (and anybody that prevents Val from talking gets my vote), but fair is fair. I understand we’re still on the Val Character Rehab tour, but let’s give it up, shall we?? As for Vanessa – another woman that (so far) I REALLY like. In fact, I think she would have a shot at winning if paired with Derek or Mark. But Maks isn’t quite up to the task. I’ve got an appreciation for Maks, thanks to his brother – but that dance couldn’t touch what Jordan or Lindsey did. Read more..

PureDWTS Season 25, Week 2, Night 1 – Power Rankings

Hmmmm.

I’m sitting here, scratching my head, because I’m not entirely sure what I just watched. It was a normal show night, but with the exception of a few couples that actually came to play, last night felt like it was pretty half-assed – few of the couples seemed like they really wanted to be there, doing those dances, to those songs, in those costumes; and I’m fairly certain Tom was just sifting through Twitter and cherry picking material that fans were bitching about to base his (rather flat) jokes on.  The costumes even felt like an afterthought – with the exception of Lindsey & Mark’s butterfly ensembles, everything else just felt generic and thrown-together; for those who are fans of Rupaul’s Drag Race, we saw a lot of “shake-and-go” dresses last night – things that look like they were store-bought, pulled out of a shopping bag, and lazily thrown on and shaken out before hitting the stage. Was everyone just completely exhausted from trying to learn two dances as early as week 2, which is an absurd idea? Or were the couples told to focus on their more crowd-pleasing Latin dances? Whatever it was, I was pretty bored with last night’s show, on the whole… Read more..
