DWTS Julianne Hough To Executive Produce And Star In Fox Put Pilot ‘One Hit Wendy’
Give it up for Julianne Hough!! According to Variety, Julianne Hough will star in a new Fox comedy called “One Hit Wendy” with a put pilot order. Below are more details….
Julianne Hough is set to star in a single camera comedy with a put pilot order at Fox, Variety has learned.
Hough will star in “One Hit Wendy,” which follows Wendy, a one hit wonder who peaked at 18 as she tries to guide her talented niece, Jordan, through the music industry and keep her from making the same mistakes she did.
Should the project move forward, it would mark the latest series set within the music industry at Fox. The network currently airs “Empire” and “Star,” which are currently in their fourth and second season respectively.
Hough will also serve as an executive producer on the project in addition to starring. The project will be written by Lesley Wake Webster, who will also executive produce. David Katzenberg, Seth Grahame-Smith, and Diane Warren will also executive produce. Katzenberg and Grahame-Smith’s KatzSmith Productions will produce in association with 20th Century Fox Television. The project is the first set up under KatzSmith’s overall deal with 20th TV.
What a perfect part for her. I hope it’s a success. More at Variety. Thanks to Lori for the heads up.
Great news and soooo happy for Julianne! Glad to see she is Exec. Producer. Both Jules and Derek are insanely talented and should do well as they branch out and pursue their interests.
I totally agree Joanne B. So great to see Julianne Exec. Producer of “One Hit Wendy” as well as also starring in it. Way to go, Jules!!!
Go, girl! What a perfect opportunity!
Hope it goes through. Thanks for the heads up.
Hope it gets picked up. Derek did a pilot last season with a name star (name is escaping me right now) and it didn’t get picked up. Which is not unusual. I think they shoot a hundred of them every season and only a handful make it to TV.
I looked up “put pilot” and I learned that “A put pilot is a pilot that the network has agreed to air either as a special or series. If the network does not air the pilot episode, the network will owe substantial monetary penalties to the studio. Generally, this guarantees that the pilot will be picked up by the network.”
So, it sounds to me that a put pilot is a bit better than a pilot, since a put pilot is guaranteed to air at least once?
Yeah, it is a bit better – but it can be cancelled after one airing if the network isn’t happy. There were several shows this happened to this past season.
All I’m saying is that a pilot is never a sure thing.
Super excited that Jules is executive producer on the project! So nice to see a sweet and talented person rise up like that, and hopefully she will be in a place to hire and promote others like her.
