Colin Kaepernick , Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kobe Bryant To Dance In New DWTS Sports Edition??
Could the producers of Dancing With The Stars be thinking of getting Colin Kaepernick and Dale Earnhardt Jr. to dance in the new Dancing With The Stars Sports Edition next season? Here’s a take on the subject from Hollywood Life. Be sure to read the link for more.
“The show really wants to make a splash and they really want to get some major sports stars on next season and the top two on their list are Colin Kaepernick and Dale Earnhardt. Dale is retiring from NASCAR and they have wanted him for years and have asked forever for him to dance on the show and having Colin is just obvious with him being in the news for all the guy’s activism. The stories they could both share would be amazing and having the show only go four weeks, producers feel that they can get these big names because they don’t have to commit to a long process and timeframe. The show is very confidant that they can pull it off and are working hard to make it happen.”
I’m all for Dale dancing, but, absolutely no to Colin!
Here’s something also on the possibility of Kobe Bryant dancing (thanks Vin!). From TMZ via TooFab. Kobe has been rumored numerous times in the past. I’d love to see him dance…
With “Dancing with the Stars” doing a full sports-themed competition with athletes next season, Derek Fisher told TooFab.com “Kobe’s name keeps coming up.”
“He loves the show. He and the family watch it,” Fisher said … “[Producers] should at least try and call him!”
Let us know what you think of these three rumors so far in comments.
ETA: Well, I don’t think Dale Earnhart Jr. is too interested in doing Dancing With The Stars. Check out the tweet below for how he replied. LOL He’s too funny…
— Ralph Dale Earnhardt Jr. (@DaleJr) November 28, 2017
I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see Dale dance. He is one of my favorite NASCAR drivers. I say NO NO NO to Colin and Kobe would be awesome.
Would love if Kobe joined, Colin is a no from me. As far as Dale, I’d love it if he did, but his wife is expecting their 1st child May 3rd, so I don’t know if he’d want to be away from home that close to her due date. They live in North Carolina.
I’d prefer Shaq or michael Jordan but but Kobe would be cool. Kinda hoping they can get tony hawk if it’s all new celebs.
Shaq would be an awesome addition to DWTS. He’s just so tall and big. He’d be hilarious. My guess is they couldn’t afford him though.
I personally think having Colin on would be great. People had No problem with Ryan Lochte being on the show and I NEVER liked him. But he wanted to be here to show people he can redeem himself in the eyes of America!! Also…. I don’t know how this season will go with being only 4 weeks and 10 couples… like either two shows a week with an elimination each show or double eleiminations each week!!! Odd!! Also….. I wonder if they are ever going to give Sharna Shawn White!!! I have been saying that for EVEF. And it might happen!!
Check out the update. It’s funny.
I love the ideas of Shaq and Michael Jordan dancing too.
I don’t have a problem with Colin. I do like Kobe so he would be good. Maybe a hockey player like Luc Robitaille?
I’ve watched every season so far, that streak will end if Kap is on the show
It’s also a “no” from me regarding Colin K.
My dream person but I’m sure it’ll never happen: Ekaterina (Katya) Gordeeva and I would die from happiness if Scott Hamilton ever did DWTS….
NO, NO, NO to ci.
If he is on the show
I will not be watching
Regardless of ones views I think it would be best for DWTS to stay clear of Collin K. I don’t think with the level of controversy surrounding him it would benefit him,the show, or ABC in general particularly where they only have 4 on-air weeks to work. Enough said.
Dale and Emma. Yes please ????❤️
A big fat NO to Colin. A big fat YES to Dale. If Colin is on DWTS, he will be the most divisive celeb in DWTS history. I can’t see DWTS willing to take on that headache. Dale and Emma would be perfect. And I want Shaq with Witney for the comedy we would get from these two. The tallest celeb with the shortest pro dancer. LOL!
Who the hell is ci??
Absolute yes to Colin K – if you pay attention and don’t believe the right’s spin, you know what his protests are about. And it ain’t the flag or America. Bring him on. He’s far less offensive than Ryan Locte…or Bristol Palin…or (god help us) Tom Delay who actually did prison time…or even Rick Perry.
B.S. Narice – they had on Bristol Palin whose mother is partly responsible for the dumbing down of America and Tom Delay who did prison time…along with Ryan Locte and his..issues.
Colin, unlike some past contestants, has NO need to “redeem” himself. All he did was protest police brutality – I can’t believe anyone who read this site has a problem with that.
Sad to see that people on this site actually believe that Colin is more controversial than many of the previous contestants on this show. Sad that this country has come to this level of faux patriotism.
If TPTB decide to have someone as controversial as ck on the show, then everyone gets to decide to watch or not. Thank goodness we have that choice. There are always two sides to every argument no matter who thinks everyone should believe the same way, and casts aspersions on the intelligence of those who disagree. Yes, very sad.
Exactly – don’t watch if you don’t like it. And it’s not just your intelligence I question.
Out of all my dream sports stars, I feel like Kaepernick would be the most available out of all who are on my list.
WaPo has an interesting chart of midseason stats called “The Colin Kaepernick tracker.” It shows how he ranks compared to other starting QBs that got picked up instead of him. Let’s just say in terms of talent, he is nowhere near the bottom of the pack.
I like the idea of Jonny Weir and Tara but it seems like they will only do it as a pair, and I usually see them doing NBC stuff, so I wouldn’t hold my breath for it.
Glad to hear PH voice in support of Colin. I have hesitated for a couple days to express my opinion being a “guest in someones home” and all and I didn’t want to be disrespectful…
Personally, I have tremendous respect for Colin Kaepernick. I love that he used his platform to *peacefully* protest police brutality to Black people. And he didn’t and wouldn’t back down.
Agreed, Jess. And why should he back down? He’s exercising his first amendment rights, hurting no one, and showing support to a community that really needs attention.
Someone yesterday sent Sharna a tweet about wanting her to dance with Colin and she said she would. The nasty comments to her and Colin were ridiculous. People saying if he was on the show it would be the end of DWTS, her career, they lost respect for her, and saying she’s not American so who cares what she thinks. And the name calling to him was so ott and uncalled for. Everything doesn’t have to be made political, all she said was she’d dance with the guy. I’m not saying people have to agree with him, but they at least need to educate themselves before spewing hate.
Personally, I would be okay with Colin on the show. I think there have been more controversial people on the show over the years.
As a NC native, it was be really cool to see Dale Jr on the show, but sounds like it won’t happen.
I’d like to see athletes who went to their semi finals or the finals and didn’t win come back for “unfinished business” or someone like Misty May. I’d LOVE to see her return.
Could not agree more that Colin K SHOULD be on the show if given the opportunity! The show has had controversial contestants before-I don’t see how his participation in the show would be any different.
How I wish Dale Jr would do the show! I’ve had a crush on him for yrs!! ????????????????????
I think Kobe would be an awesome get for the show!! Something tells me he’d do well….????
Some people are mentioning how they’d luv to see Shaq on the show-that would be some dream?! He’d be too funny!! Real big guy though for any of the female pros lol
Controversial?! LOL you people are really hilarious – someone who is standing up for justice and for what he believes in, who has committed no crime and has hurt exactly nobody is controversial? But people who’ve been to jail, harmed the country, etc, are not?
I would love for Colin to be on the show.? People can decide whether to watch or not. Colin is an inspiration to many people and he PEACEFULLY protested police brutality, which is a right of every citizen.
Anna, as much as I agree with you, dial it back just a bit. The “You people” part set me on edge and I’m on your side!
I LOVED Sharna’s basketball salsa with Derek, I’d love to see more basketball-inspired dances with Kobe! He’s a charming guy, I think he’d do great in the votes.
Misty May was one of the first people that occurred to me when I heard DWTS is doing this. I also agree with the athletes who’ve done it before coming back.
I saw that Lawson and it was disgraceful. And the arrogance of people who said they lost respect for her – her response was perfect. How arrogant do you have to be to think Sharna would WANT or CARE about your respect, some faceless dude on the internet? I hate when fans try to blackmail their favorite celebs into either shutting up or begging forgiveness from them. Good for Sharna on her response.
Absolutely I would love for Kapernick to dance with Sharna, I pictured her with Jeter, but this is inspired.
NO to Colin K. Honestly he should be devoting his free time to organizations that deal with the issues he was so passionately kneeling about. Doubt that would happen though.
Actually IS happening, Sandy. You should read up on it.
Ok let’s give Colin a try and how about Tim Tibow . Enough said.
What’s wrong with Tim Tebow?? He would certainly be a lot more christian than some of the people on this thread – and he would probably get along with Colin quite well.
Jess #21 I felt the same way and hesitated to respond. But I agree completely with PH. I would love to see him in the show and get to know him better as a person. He doesn’t have to redeem himself for anything. I can’t imagine anyone being against police brutality and his actions show a ton of courage and compromise with his beliefs (great qualities IMO).
So yeah, I would love to see him dance and get to know him better.
I meant to say: “I cant imagine anyone NOT being against police brutality”…
Am not ok with Colin or Kobe on show. Michael Jordan maybe.
Actually I have no problem with Colin himself or his cause other than the fact it will no doubt start another Twitter rant and bring out crazies like the ones that went after Ryan last year. THAT is the kind of garbage I could do without. I fear given the current climate it will NOT be Colin’s views that get the most attention and I for one am sick of feeding the political troll and his twitter habit.
Good point about Tebrow and perhaps casting him AND Colin could help both sides come together. They rake a knee for different yet equally important principles
Exactly – that was my point. Thank you for the positive response. Tibow and Colin would be great tv.
Colin for sure. Standing up for the marginalized and dismissed is standing up for human dignity and grace for all of humankind. I admire his bravery and humility.
It’s human excellence and selfless love at it’s finest.
I’m also okay with Tebow. His heart seems to be in the right place.
Love IS stronger, more powerful, and more transcendent than hate. To love is so much harder than to hate. In the words of MLK, “Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that”.
I sounded a bit like Sister Love at a tent revival in my post! ????
Sorry about that. I have my reasons.
I would love a male tennis star. Maybe have Jimmy Connors and John McEnroe go head to head on the show.
Colin is a HELL NO for me! Anyone who praises him or thinks he isn’t against the police or white people should take off their blinders and see the truth! For the other rumored athletes I don’t see a problem,I would love to see some tennis pros and NASCAR drivers!
@Ashley, if you paid attention to what Colin is doing, you would notice he really isn’t against white people or police. People needs to stop trying to spin this into whatever they want to hear, Colin is protesting police brutality : do you find it okay for Philandro C to be shot in his car, with his girlfriend and 4 years old girl next to him, for doing absolutely nothing illegal ? Why was the policeman first reflex to shot him multiple times ? Same with Tamir Rice, Eric Gardner, etc. That as to stop quickly.
Colin kneeling shows that an America with people living in fear of the autorithies isn’t what he wants that’s why he is protesting, as he is allowed to do. It’s not about the flag, the vets or white people, it’s about the way policemen are trained and how we can change it.
We get it, Philamene, but to some of us, the anthem and the flag is about A LOT MORE than just police brutality and which political side you support. So, for people who support America in a multiple of ways (the police who have never brutalized anyone, the land, people, the military, our freedoms, all political opinions (and all opinions for that matter), every President, etc etc) we have a right to be offended by anyone kneeling if we want to.
ADDING: and we shouldn’t be made to feel like we are being hateful, racist, intolerant, etc as we have just as big of heart and love just as much as you or anyone else supporting Colin and kneeling.
Voguerista, may I ask what you mean by “people who support America in a bigger way”?
Hi, I changed my wording and added more to explain it better.
Ashley, I don’t think anyone has blinders on here. I also don’t feel either side is wrong. We just see it a little differently and we’re all compassionate depending on how you look at it.
I just have one thing to say about Colin. Protesting while on the job about something (that has nothing to do with the your football job) is not the way to do it. There is a time and place for everything, and it’s not during the time when you are suppose to be on the field in uniform for the beginning ceremony which honors our flag and our military soldiers who are responsible for the freedoms we have to play such games as football. I would not watch the sports show in the spring (if he is on DWTS) because Colin gets millionaire wages to do a job, not protesting that disrespects America’s best like my oldest brother, a Marine Corporal who was killed for freedom’s sake. Protesting is a “right” which all American’s are entitled to do, but using common sense so as not to infringe on the rights of others also exists.
This is just how I feel, and has nothing to do with my political views (it’s my personal & patriotic feelings).
I understand that but as I said in the other post PLEASE if you have the solution share it, if you don’t think he sould protest during the anthem, give suggestion to when and how he should do it. Because saying he shouldn’t do it like that but not giving any suggestion isn’t helping.
Prostesting is a right as said above and there is no wrong time to protest as long as it’s done in a legal way. Him kneeling doesn’t prevent you of doing from commemorating the vets, millitary, policemen, etc. Him kneeling is his way of commemorating the lives of every people who died because of police brutality.
And why should he shut up because he is getting millions ? What the message behind it ? If someone pays you a lot, you can’t complain about anything, that’s not okay.
I can get how it’s bothering some people but what I don’t like is the bashing of Kapernick, some people would prefer to see Sharapova who said nasty and racist thigns about Serena Williams and never really apologized for that, she is also guilty of doping which is illegal than someone like Kapernick who didn’t do anything illegal.
@Philomen You have your opinion and I have mine. And I truly believe that nobody would even know who Kapernick is if it wasn’t for his disrespectful antics.
@Ashley now you are being unfair because all the way in France, where american football isn’t a thing at all, I knew who was Colin Kapernick before he decided to kneel during the anthem, he is talented football player. You shouldn’t diminish his accomplishments because of the choice he made.
PS : I really hope I won’t see comments like “You shoudln’t talk because you are not from the USA” or “It’s not the same if France than in the US” because that would be false and quite discriminating.
Yeah, shut it, Ashley, unless you have a solution that he could do otherwise. YOU are the one with blinders on (and yes, I do think they are racist). Your opinion means exactly nothing in this instance and you aren’t adding anything new to the discussion.
You wanna be upset about something?? Where’s your voice on POTUS endorsing a guy for Senate that has been accused of child molestation by a huge number of women?? Seriously, you’re twisted about Colin?? I would say your priorities are screwed up.
Kat – explain to me how your rights or anyone else’s rights are infringed upon by Colin. Answer: they aren’t.
There is no “right” way to be patriotic or supportive of America. I would say that Colin is doing a better job of it that ANYONE here. He’s using his platform for the benefit of others. He obviously gains nothing from it. In fact, he’s lost a lot from it.
As a white person married to an Indian immigrant for the last 20 years and also has a Muslim last name from my husband’s side of the family, we have experienced intolerance, hateful comments and threatening behavior. Mostly right after 9-11 with an upsurge within the last year. Until you become a victim of racism, bigotry and ignorance, you have no idea how it feels and what it does to your emotional well-being.
White privilege is real and harmful. Until you experience what it’s like to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes, I would try to withhold judgement.
As for kneeling during the anthem, I asked my Marine Corp veteran father last year before he passed away, what he thought of it. He told me that peaceful protest is an American right and for him, is more meaningful and evocative of the founding principles of this country than any anthem.
That’s good enough for me.
I’m not shutting down or disparaging anyone who disagrees with me. Dialog is important between people who disagree, as long as it’s done respectfully. I don’t agree with Vogue, but I respect her.
So I have to shut it because I strongly disagree with what Colin is doing??? Lol everyone should be allowed to express themselves but I guess the only ones who can are the ones who suddenly love the failed football player??? And there’s actual evidence of Franken being a molester than Moore so we’ll see what Alabama decides on.
Now back to DWTS I’d love to see Dale, the Williams sisters and female NASCAR driver Danica, I feel like she’d look great with Artem!
Ashley, I don’t blame Heidi for telling you to “shut it”. The problem is, you came in telling others who disagree with you that they have “blinders on”. Everyone is allowed their opinion, but, that was disrespectful. Ya know, Miss Heidi and I don’t always agree on everything politically (and sometimes we do), but, we are the best of friends, love, and respect each other and we don’t tell each other we have blinders on, etc.
And this is the one of the beauties of why I love this country (and in turn the flag and the anthem that represent everything about it). DITTO Susan…I respect you too even if we see it a little differently!!
No, not everyone is entitled to their opinion on this site, Ashley. It’s our site, we can boot you at any time – kinda like what would happen if you came into my house and made an ass of yourself. You’re not allowed to yell “fire” in a crowded theater, and you’re not allowed to libel of slander anyone – against the law. If you don’t move on to a new topic, I will boot you – watch me.
Why am I not surprised that you won’t bash Moore for CHILD MOLESTATION claims by more than 30 women but will jump on Al Frankin for his asinine behavior with 3 GROWN women. So much for solidarity with other women and CHILDREN, eh? Come on, say BOTH MEN are horrible – what’s stopping you?? But let’s rant about the football player harming no one.
Nope, you’re not racist OR political.
I have a right to watch the millionaire footballs players doing their job they are paid to do, not their attics of disrespect towards our American flag, national anthem ceremony honoring America’s best. There are proper ways of protesting without disrupting other people’s enjoyment by disrespecting their country and those who died to give them the right to protest. And, if I was going to protest, I’d figure out how to do it at the right time and right place.
With all the vast knowledge easily available now a days, it wouldn’t be that hard of a task.
Vogue,I admit I shouldn’t have said blinders and I shouldn’t have expressed my political views & about Colin cause him and others get me very heated and pissed off and I can admit that I can occasionally take it too far.
I’m not sorry for believing what I believe BUT I am sorry for saying it the way I did.
KreativeKat, do you realize how often and consistently minorities are told that they aren’t protesting correctly? When they sit in the wrong bus seat, they’re wrong to bother ordinary people trying to get home. If they sit at the lunch counter, they’re wrong to interfere in a business. If they walk in the streets, they’re wrong to disrupt traffic. If they stand on the sidewalk, they’re wrong to get in the way of pedestrians and shoppers. If they hold signs or speak up at a rally or speech, they’re wrong to interfere with the speaker’s free speech. If they shout, they are called thugs. If they kneel quietly, they are called disrespectful. There only seems to be one acceptable time and place for them to protest – wherever and whenever they can’t be seen or heard.
Sorry, KKat – nothing Colin did actually infringed on a single one of your rights. Get up and go to the bathroom when the camera pans to the bench…and actually, since Colin isn’t playing any more, it’s irrelevant.
And I ask again – do you stand with your hand over your heart during the anthem when watching at home. Hell, do you even watch football period?
As for “proper way to protest” – that would be YOU infringing on the rights of people who don’t agree with you.
And if they sit in their car with their wife and child with no weapon and their hands on the steering wheel, they are wrong to ask why they are being pulled over by police. Something that no white person even has to think about asking. My nephew is black and my sister and I had to lecture him on how to behave around police officers. He had no idea that he has to behave in a different way than me or my siblings might behave. Try explaining that to a young person.
White privilege means that many on this site have no idea how lucky they are. And I include myself in that grouping. If you are white, just sit down. You have no idea what people of color go through on a daily basis. Perhaps if you saw it in action you wouldn’t be so quick to judge others. And if you claim to be christian, I (the agnostic) will remind you of “Judge not lest ye be judged”.
Ashley, thanks for apologizing. It means a lot. I apologize too for anyone I offended with my opinion. It’s hard sometimes but what I think is cool is that we can all go on, be friends still, and still love talking on DWTS in the end. So, hey, bring on Colin…but, he better not start protesting on DWTS or else. lollll 😉
Again @KKat if you have another “more repectful” solution, please share it, saying you would have done it another way is pointless because before Kapernick choose to kneel, people went in the streets to protest, wrote songs, short films, wrote to the presidents, the autorithies, etc and still nothing changed. A lot of you have been saying “I would have done it another way” but I have yet to see you sharing your suggestion.
What are “proper ways of protesting”?
Who gets to decide what the proper ways to protest are?
Do “millionaire football players” lose the right to protest simply because they’re successful?
As a follow up to that question, go on Colin’s website and see how many charities he actively supports with his “millions” including homelessness, childhood education and single mothers. Whatever you think of him, he puts his money where his mouth is. He gives back in a real and tangible way.
Is standing up for the marginalized, voiceless, victimized and dismissed less important than an anthem?
I’m not saying that the Anthem is a trivial thing, I’m saying that patriotism isn’t a easy sound bite or flag bandanna or hat made in China that you can buy at Walmart. It’s loving your country enough to protest and fight to make it better for ALL Americans. If that means peacefully protesting by kneeling during the Anthem, then so be it.
Philomene, but we/they have suggested something and that is that he could have protested on his own time not during a game where you alienate half the fans (especially when part of our taxes pay for stadiums, etc). Anyway, he got attention to his cause nevertheless and that’s good, but, I also understand the other side of it and that’s ok too imo. I’m done commenting on this.
Vogue, you’re such a sweetheart.
????????
You are you are!!xxx
Protesting in their own time and saying not doing during the game is not bringing a solution at all to the issue. It’s not while being at home that he should protest, what’s the point. We don’t agree on this issue Vogue and I get that but again him kneeling doesn’t stop you from singing the anthem wih your hand on your heart, everyone can chose to do what they want, it’s not like he was singing something like the Macarrena or the Thong Song loudly on that time.
Btw I don’t get the taxes argument becaue whether he is standing, kneeling, sitting or omething else you will still pay but whatever.
Amen, Susan. The Anthem itself is a symbol of this country – and it SHOULD represent all people. It should mean that we’re ALL CREATED EQUALLY. If you believe in this country, the flag and the anthem, then you should be applauding Colin’s activities both on and off the field. That people don’t just shows how twisted patriotism has become in this country.
I pay taxes so that our schools can be decent, yet I have no children. The schools are NOT decent and I don’t like that they teach to the testing and there’s not enough focus on STEM. So, should I pay??
Of course I should, because not doing so would only make the situation worse, not better and I would be depriving children of an education. In the end, that harms the entire country, not just the children (another topic I could expound upon for hours). In the case of football, call your elected officials to protest the use of tax dollars for multi-million dollar stadiums used to play a GAME. But using the fact that you pay taxes to try and have things your way is hardly fair. Why your way and not my way?? One could also make the argument that you pay taxes and some of those tax dollars go to play a game, which results in bringing more people into the cities where they spend their money on food, parking, other entertainment…which grows city revenue…which benefits EVERYONE who lives there.
Nothing is so simple.
To me, the anthem represents the ideal of what America stands for – justice, equality, and freedom more than anything else. This by default includes your freedom of speech and your freedom to protest a lack of justice and equality. I don’t feel that Colin is disrespecting America by kneeling – more like respecting it.
Yes, I do put my hand over my heart and if I am sitting I stand any time I see on T.V. or in real time the ceremony of our national anthem, and although many on this site are not for my NFL team, I’ve been a die-hard STEELER fan for over 60 years, as I was born and raised north of Pittsburgh, PA were I lived all of my first 60 years. I shut off my team when they sat on their arses and only ONE, a veteran soldier, came out and did exactly what is stated in the NFL rules book and followed the rule to a tee.
I appreciate everyone’s opinion here and it’s okay to disagree; but I honor the flag & anthem my brother and others served under and died for freedom’s sake. In fact, I get goose bumps and watering eyes as I love our veterans & active duty soldiers. It hurts me personally, but not everyone has the same hurt & honor that I feel; and that’s okay, also. I’m not angry at anyone here. And, like Vogue, I would rather not continue on about this, so I am ending my participation in this topic right now.
KreativeKat
Your brother and others (may they rest in peace) died for a freedom that black people STILL DON’T HAVE WITHIN THE USA !!!! That’s the issue and the reason why Kapernick is kneeling. And since you put your hand on your heart during the anthem, I would say that Kapernick and the others kneeling don’t prevent you from singing the anthem.
Before being football players, they are human beings with feelings, rights and opinions that they can expressed wherever they want and whenever they whant as long as it’s done in a legal way. You can’t say that these footballers exercing their right to protest isn’t right because it’s hurting your personal feelings, I’m sorry but that’s why soldiers and population are fighting and unfortunatly dying, to have the right to express themselves.
