DWTS Season 26, Week 3 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?
Ugh, I hate when they do this – it’s always the judges shot to have more control over who moves on and who is eliminated – and it’s worse this season since they already know who needs the votes. From ABC press release:
In round one, each couple will perform an individual dance inspired by the MVP in each athlete’s life. Each couple will perform a foxtrot, Viennese waltz, quickstep, rumba or contemporary routine. Then in round two of the evening, the athletes will lace up for a Ballroom Battle dance-off with three toe-to-toe performances. Each dance-off pairing will perform a cha cha, jive or salsa. During each dance-off, the public will be allowed to vote for their favorite couple via an online “Passion Meter” at abc.com during the live EDT/CDT airing of the show – and in the event of a tie on the judges’ panel, the couple that wins America’s Vote will be named winner of the dance-off. The couple that wins each dance-off will receive bonus points, which will be combined with their individual dance scores from round one. Those totals will be added to the previous week’s public votes to determine the results of the triple elimination at the end of the night.

Also from the Press Release…I don’t get the “alphabetical order” thing. Someone please explain. 🙂
For the Ballroom Battle Dance-Off, the teams are divided up as follows (in alphabetical order):

Chris Mazdzer & Witney Carson and Josh Norman & Sharna Burgess – Salsa – “WTF (Where They From)” by Missy Elliott featuring Pharrell Williams
Tonya Harding & Sasha Farber and Jennie Finch Daigle & Keo Motsepe – Cha Cha – “Dance” by DNCE
Argh! Another week where I can’t watch Live but have to guess when to vote. This week is a crucial one!
I’m hoping for an all figure skating final. I want Mirai or Tonya to win.
I assume that they listed the ballroom battle couples alphabetically based on the first name of the celeb listed first.
I hate this 4 week season! Why couldn’t they make it a bit longer? I really like all the athlete celebs!
Well that tells you who they want in the final
I’m actually excited they are doing a dance for the MVP in the celebs lives. Since we’re not getting most memeorable year, I’ll take this! I feel we can actually connect the best when they do that week and since we only have 4 weeks this time I’m glad they threw this in.
I’m probably the only person who doesn’t want to see an all ice skater finale. I would prefer to see Chris squeeze in there or Josh who is currently the only celeb who isn’t an Olympic athlete left in the competition.
I am sooo confused about the whole second round of dances and the voting/scoring for it???? No matter how you look at it, it’s pretty predictable who’s going into the 4th final week lol I still feel like this short season, when you look at it as a whole and I think when all is said and done and the producers look at it, is a bust. Just my opinion.
I am curious how they decided the dance off pairs. I can see the logic of Adam against Mirai, top scores and top dancers. I thought next would be Tonya against Chris, since they had the next highest scores. It almost seems they are putting Tonya up against Jennie to get her extra points and push her to the final. Tonya is a much better dancer than Jennie and I don’t think there is anyway in the world Jennie survives this triple elimination. I do think watching Chris and Josh will be fun. My gut feeling is all 3 skaters to the finals, or if TPTB think that’s too much, I think they sacrifice Mirai and go with Chris or Josh.
On an entirely different note-what does everyone think about this week’s guest judge David Ross? I love him so I am happy, but I wonder how he will be as a judge. He has knowledge of how hard this is first hand, but does he even remember half the rules Lindsay had to drill into him during their season? I wonder if he just goes along with the other 3 or does he score on what he likes regardless of shoulders, hands, feet, timing and so on. He may have given a 10 for Kareem’s Salsa because it was so much fun. I guess they would never allow him to be a spoiler to their plan like that, so he either scores close to the other 3 or everyone gets 10’s. Good thing Emma was already out when Rashad was judge and that Lindsay is out now, because they both built such a special bond with their partners I don’t they could ever judge them as anything as perfect. That’s something I love about this show, true and lasting friendships.
I think the dance-off is definitely going to favor Josh and Tonya. Adam has contemporary for his regular dance, so he’ll probably get 10s, and then Mirai will win their dance-off to keep her around. Given that Josh has contemporary, he’ll probably score high, and that along with a dance-off win will probably put him in the finale. I think it will be Adam, Mirai and Josh in the finale, with a small chance of Tonya replacing Mirai or Josh.
I still think Josh could win this. I love Adam, but I’m not so sure of his popularity with the typical conservative dwts viewer. I wonder if Mirai is more popular than he is – I think women’s figure skating is generally more popular than men’s.
@marintx
There are many conservatives who don’t judge because of a person’s sexual preference, culture, or religion. I am one of them. From week one I have had two favorite couples, one is Adam & Jenna. He’s the best male dancer. My second is Mirai & Alan. Mirai is the best female dancer to me. I am enjoying both Adam and Mirai, and if either of these two couples get the MBT, I will be totally happy.
Love love love the song choices! I am anticipating a lot of 10s this week. Only person that worries me this week is Jennie….who is really coming across as slightly boring and a bit of a diva last week with the whole song change stuff.
PJC, I’m looking forward to seeing David Ross again! I don’t think he’ll do any worse than some of the other previous guest judges that have been on DWTS over the years. I’m sure a lot of them didn’t know (or even care to know) all the “do’s & don’ts” of all the dances.
For that matter, the regular judges sometimes choose to overlook rules (such as lifts, breaking hold, etc.). It’s much more annoying when they do it than when a guest judge does it. LOL.
It’s interesting how they are doing the dance offs predetermined instead of the highest scoring picking the opponent and the opponent picking the style. The team dances have kind of thrown me off in terms of points, since there was a wide enough gap to make a difference. But even with the boost from the team dance, I agree in that Jennie will not make it to week 4. However, it was good to see Keo with someone capable and his height. But for the rest of the contestants, I can see any of them making it to the finals. The only one I think for sure will be in the finals is Adam. If Mirai loses the dance off, that can hurt her in points and may make it hard for her to beat out the other two winners of the dance battles. I think Josh may have an edge for his dance off due to it being latin. He kind of reminds me of Antonio because he was also good in the latin dances and I feel that he just doesn’t have as much time to practice, similar to what happened to Antonio. We have not seen Tonya do any latin dances before, so it’s hard to tell if she can pull it off. Jennie’s cha cha didn’t go over too well last week, so I think Tonya can still win that battle.I think overall that Adam, Josh, and Tonya will win the battles unless they want to help mirai. I wouldn’t mind seeing Chris or Tonya in the finals, and I think it is a strong possibility Tonya may just make it. I expect they will start taking out the 10 paddles this week. I wish they had a top 4 for this season since it’s so short, and have a Adam Mirai Tonya Chris/Josh finals, since this season has already been so cut throat already. There were a lot of great contenders in this season that I wish we got to see more of and get to know more of, but I guess it does cut through to just the dancing and the celebs not being so exhausted by the end.
When you’re the low person on the leaderboard, it’s pretty hard to see the team dance as a boost. That was so last week anyway.
Thank you Princess Heidi for reminding me that the team dance score advantage is already over, the Judge’s votes from last week already went into determining who went home week 2. With this short season it’s hard to realize exactly which votes go to which elimination. I wished it made me more sure of the finalists, but no, still sure Jennie leaves and Adam advances. The rest is a crap shoot, one screw up and you’re done.
