PureDWTS Season 27 – Sasha & Emma Choreograph For SYTYCD; Jensen Arnold Advances to Top 6
Time for the weekly DWTS/SYTYCD weekly cross-over update 🙂 This week, it was Sasha & Emma’s turn to choreograph, and they gave contemporary dancer Hannahlei and Latin ballroom dancer Cole a cha-cha:
This one…was a bit of a strange one for me. I dug that they went an edgier, more unexpected route with the music & staging, but I don’t know that it really felt like a cha-cha to me – it felt more like a fusion of cha-cha and Argentine tango, and was a bit too heavy on the tricks and lifts. However, I will say that it was nice to see an actual ballroom dancer doing it, and I definitely preferred this edgy take on cha-cha to Val’s fluffier choreo from week 1. But I still think Sharna wins the prize for most authentic Latin ballroom choreo this season…
Unfortunately, both Cole and Magda (another ballroom dancer, and a friend of the Chmerkovskiys), the only two other Latin/ballroom dancers left in the competition, got eliminated last night. Which leaves Jensen as the sole ballroomer left in the top 6, with 3 contemporary dancers, a jazz dancer, and a hip-hopper – and I think she stands a decent shot of winning this whole thing. We got to see a jazz, a hip-hop, and a cha-cha solo from her last night:
So I’ve seen several of you mentioning that you’d “love to see Jensen as a pro/troupe on DWTS”…y’know how we’d make that happen quicker, right? By getting her as far as possible on this season of SYTYCD…and if she wins, you can bet that DWTS will probably be begging her to join the show after season 27 (she’s likely on contract with SYTYCD through the end of the year). So I encourage everyone to vote for her, if you want to see more of her – you can text “JENSEN” to 21523, and you can do that up to 20 times (super easy, it only took me a minute), or you can vote using the FoxNow app or here at the Fox website. I encourage you all to take moment to do it – it could mean having the Arnold girls as the first set of three siblings to do DWTS 😉
There’s been a trend with ballroom in recent seasons where I think the ballroom choreography has gone for more flash rather than substance.
Now that I think of it. I can’t remember the last time I saw a ballroom routine on SYTYCD that wasn’t a Latin style.
Voted. Hope she wins since she would be amazing in the troupe and maybe a pro somewhere down the road.
Ahhhh I knew that Cha cha was linked to something else LOL but I couldn’t put my finger on it when I was watching it-I just figured Sasha and Emma were going for a slower/sexier edge ????????♀️ But you are 100% right Courtney! It most definitely looked like a fusion of cha cha and Argentine tango with A LOT of tricks lol I do think Cole and Hannahlei did it justice tho-I was, particularly, surprised at her! She really showed good hip action and clear steps so I give both of them two thumbs up. And I agree that compared to Val, that routine was FAR BETTER!! Again it just goes to show the differences in DWTS pros who choreograph for SYTYCD ????
And in the end, both Magda and Cole went home-not gonna lie, I felt bad for Cole-poor guy seemed like he was really trying his best and I think he did try-he’s a good dancer. I’m not a fan of Magda Fialek-I don’t know-she just rubs me the wrong way-will we see more of her in the future? Like on DWTS? I suppose anything’s possible-she made it to the top 10 of SYTYCD and she’s very much ballroom trained and she’s Chmerkovskiy-connected-I wouldn’t, exactly, rule out seeing the last of her, or even Cole, on our TV screens in the future lol
Oh how I LOVE JENSEN!!!! And I LOVE JAY JAY!!! I’m rooting for both of them actually! I can’t choose!!! I loved all their dances last night-together and their solos!! To me, Nigel’s comments to Jensen were pretty telling???? and I’m sure he’s got a lot of influence over the future of these contestants-especially someday like Jensen who can easily cross over to DWTS. The top ten are contracted to do the SYTYCD tour for a few months, but after that, I wouldn’t be surprised if DWTS comes calling for Jensen right away-if I had to predict, sometime in 2019 for sure????
I can totally see Jensen on DWTS. She has an extremely goofy, cute, outgoing personality- the best personality this season on sytycd, and I am sure she’d be a REALLY entertaining pro on dwts. Plus she’s cross trained and the most likable this season on sytycd
Jensen is wonderful to watch. She’s so comfortable in her open, sweet, dorky skin. It’s refreshing!
She’s able to tap into so many hidden facets of her personality, like the animalistic, aggression of her Sean Cheeseman African jazz from a couple of weeks ago.
She would definitely be an asset to DWTS.
I think Jensen is fantastic and would work well on DWTS – problem is, who would she replace. Because when you have this conversation, that is what it means. Someone who is on now gets the boot.
Even if Jensen wins SYTYCD, it’s still a much lower rated show than DWTS. So, would they replace Emma…or Witney…or Sharna….with Jensen??
Emma’s got babies on the brain, and apparently wants to start trying for one next year. That could be the shift – and I think people are more wanting Jensen in the troupe at this point, as opposed to being fast-tracked straight to pro.
I would also imagine that Witney and Lindsey might also go the babies route before too much longer. But hell, Jensen is engaged to be married, so it won’t be long before she starts thinking that as well.
I am thinking that Hayley will get a shot before Jensen, even going so far as to train with Shirley Ballas. If she did a halfway decent job on Juniors, she might be next in line.
I think she needs to do troupe first (mostly becuase I selfishly want Haley as a competing pro like ASAP) but I really think Peta will eventually will get phased out as a competing pro. On one of the shows (not sure which one) she said she wanted more kids.
Sidenote: Cole would be cool too. He just seems to love dancing so much and is always so happy. Kinda awesome to watch
There’s something about Cole that just kinda rubs me the wrong way. Not sure what it was.
@PH – Cole struck me as wooden – in the same way that Kiki did. Just not 100% present and hard to get to know.
I wasn’t a fan of Cole in the beginning. He seemed too disingenuous and shallow, but I think getting critiqued on national television did him some good, he got, at least to me, more genuine and humbled. But anyone coming from SYTYCD to DWTS needs several seasons in the troupe.
I didn’t know Haylee did some training with Shirley Ballas. That’s both smart and wonderful. I’m assuming she probably had to pay for those training classes out of her own pocket too. I hope she gets a pro shot soon.
