PureDWTS DWTS Juniors, Season 1, Week 3 – Who’s Dancing What?
It’s Disney week on both Juniors & regular DWTS! Judging from pix I’ve seen from Juniors, looks like they might start utilizing the junior troupe in the dances a bit more this week. As always, go here for spoilers on who the high scorers were for Disney night.
Akash & Kamri (mentored by Witney) – jive (song: “Zero to Hero” from Hercules)
Ariana & Artyon (mentored by Brandon) – samba (song: “Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride” from Lilo & Stitch)
Alana & Tristan (mentored by Artem) – foxtrot (song: “Something There” from Beauty and The Beast)
Jason & Elliana (mentored by Emma) – foxtrot (song: “You’ve Got a Friend In Me” from Toy Story)
Kenzie & Sage (mentored by Gleb) – contemporary (song: “Colors of the Wind” from Pocahontas)
Mandla & Brightyn (mentored by Cheryl) – jazz (song: “Un Poco Loco” from Coco)
Miles & Rylee (mentored by Lindsay) – Charleston (song: “One Jump Ahead” from Aladdin)
Sky & JT (mentored by Alan) – contemporary (song: “How Far I’ll Go” from Moana)
Sophia & Jake (mentored by Sasha) – samba (song: “Poor Unfortunate Souls” from The Little Mermaid)
Thoughts: kinda pleased to see some new songs thrown into the mix – they don’t seem to be going with old standbys like “Friend Like Me” or “I Wanna Be Like You”. I’m sure there’s going to be cries of “cultural appropriation!!!” for some of these, but given that these are kids and Disney kind of has a history of cultural appropriation, I’m willing to cut some slack…although I think using anything from Pocahontas is just cringe-y, regardless of how old the person dancing is. Miles & Rylee’s Charleston is probably going to SLAY, given that nobody choreographs a Charleston like Lindsay (bonus: I’m about 95% sure she & DeMarcus have a Charleston to “A Star is Born” from Hercules next week – so double-dose of #Linsanity Charlestons!).

I’ve been watching DWTS since season 2 and I am actually enjoying juniors than some seasons of the regular show. After each dance (for the majority of the kids) I keep saying in my head/outloud that this is the cutest thing I have ever seen and thoroughly enjoy the show.
I was skeptical of the show originally but I think it’s a great addition and way better than the ‘all athletes’ season.
But I still find it odd to have Kenzie there and how she has comtemporary (isn’t that what she’s trained it?)
Akash & Kamri (mentored by Witney) – jive (song: “Zero to Hero” from Hercules): This should be adorable. Perfect song I’d say for a jive. My guess on scores (8,7,8)
Ariana & Artyon (mentored by Brandon) – samba (song: “Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride” from Lilo & Stitch): This is a great song but not sure for a samba. This is the one I am most curious about. My guess on scores (8,8,8)
Alana & Tristan (mentored by Artem) – foxtrot (song: “Something There” from Beauty and The Beast): This should be very cute. Part of me thinks she isn’t going to last much longer though. My guess on scores (7,6,7)
Jason & Elliana (mentored by Emma) – foxtrot (song: “You’ve Got a Friend In Me” from Toy Story): This is just the perfect song for them. My guess on score (8,8,8)
Kenzie & Sage (mentored by Gleb) – contemporary (song: “Colors of the Wind” from Pocahontas): I used to love this movie….because of the raccoon. Hate this song though. My guess on score (8,8,8)
Mandla & Brightyn (mentored by Cheryl) – jazz (song: “Un Poco Loco” from Coco): I LOVE this song. My guess on score (8,8,8)
Miles & Rylee (mentored by Lindsay) – Charleston (song: “One Jump Ahead” from Aladdin): This was my jam as a kid. My guess on score (8,8,8)
Sky & JT (mentored by Alan) – contemporary (song: “How Far I’ll Go” from Moana): I used to like this song. Then my cousin discovered it. My score guess (7,8,8)
Sophia & Jake (mentored by Sasha) – samba (song: “Poor Unfortunate Souls” from The Little Mermaid): My guess on score: 8,8,8
@Jessica, I agree! I thought this show would be a disaster and I felt sorry for the kids as a result, but I’m enjoying it. A lot of fun and I hope it does well enough to come back for another season. I’m also happy that it seems to be going over well (from other places I’ve looked).
I said in another post that I’m bored with Disney night on the regular version, but I’m excited to see it here. I’m also glad that there’s more of a variety of songs and not the same old retreads we’ve seen on the other version.
I’m curious now to see what songs we will get for the adult version. If they were able to clear a few new songs for the juniors hopefully they did the same for Monday night as well.
Also Kenzie getting contemporary should be good *eyerolls* as that’s pretty much all they did on the show we shouldn’t mention lol.
Definitely looking forward to Ariana/Artyon, Miles/Rylee & Sky/JT. I’ve enjoyed all of their performances so far!
I agree about Disney @Kara. I think it will be a lot more fun with the kids doing Disney rather than the adults but I’m glad there is way more variety!
Been a long time since I’ve commented here!
Why is Poor Unfortunate Souls a samba again? How is that a samba song?
Although I am more pleased with the Disney playlist on the regular show this week than I have been in years past, the Juniors got the better song list for sure! I’m excited to hear every single one of these songs, and even more excited to see what the kids and their mentors do with them. It should be adorable!
Hercules is my favorite Disney movie so I’m super excited that 2 songs from the movie will make it into the Disney Nights, and especially excited that they were given to 2 of the best female pros – Witney and Lindsay! Zero to Hero is one of my top 5 Disney songs of all time.
Does anyone else like the page for DWTS JR on facebook? They posted full dances the other day (Miles and Jason to be exact). This seems like a really bad idea to do but I guess their PR people know better than I do?
Yeah DWTSjunior Twitter account posted Miles and Riley’s Charleston dance to the Aladdin song already. Maybe they figured since the show was already prefaced, what the hell? ????????♀️ No harm done in showing a couples dance before the show airs, especially when there have been spoilers thrown out there since the summer LOL
World of Dance does it – show the videos before the show. Not all of them. Their ratings are comparable to DWTS in total viewers and they’re a summertime show, so it’s clearly not hurting them.
[…] I got much conversation on the live blog thread last Sunday. Womp womp womp. Song and dance list here, spoiler post here. If you want a recap/rundown of last week’s episode, week 2 live blog here […]
