Dancing with the Stars Season 28, Week FIVE – Who’s Dancing What…and When??
Disney week. I can’t say it’s my favorite week. Too much production, too much BS. But since this season has been remarkably low on all that stuff so far, perhaps I will enjoy it more. We’ll see. Here’s what the press release says we can expect this week:
For the first time in the show’s history, the opening dance number will take place at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, in a pre-recorded segment and will feature the cast on Main Street, U.S.A. and in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle, choreographed by the acclaimed Zach Woodlee (“Grease Live” and “Glee”). During the show, the celebrity contestants and their pros take over the Happiest Place on Earth as they seek inspiration for their dance numbers at Disney California Adventure Park and Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California. One lucky “Dancing with the Stars” couple will even get to travel to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and take the controls of the Millennium Falcon. From thrill attractions to favorite Disney characters and more, this will be a “Disney Night” to remember.
Vying for America’s vote, each couple will dance to a variety of beloved Disney songs including “We’re All in This Together” from “High School Musical,” “Under the Sea” from “The Little Mermaid,” “A Spoonful of Sugar” from “Mary Poppins,” “Beauty and the Beast” from the live-action “Beauty and the Beast,” and “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King” from the live-action “The Lion King,” among others.
In addition, a special dance inspired by new song “Into the Unknown” from “Disney’s Frozen II” will be featured. And special looks from Disney+’s upcoming “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” and live-action “Lady and the Tramp” will be shown.
Here’s who’s dancing which dances…ugh, the first contemporary and jazz of the season. At least Ally and Kate got them, along with Kel. This I can live with. 🙂 What do those whining about Hannah’s dances have to say about that, eh?? That argument no longer holds. Sorry not sorry. Foxtrot should suit her, though. James should do fantastic with the Paso. Conversely, Lindsay is going to have to work a REAL miracle this week. I love her, but I hope it doesn’t happen. Sailor should do well, but I worry about Lauren and Karamo with the Samba. Hopefully their partners get it together for them.
ETA: See below for what is apparently the full song list. Hmmm…Hannah was sitting on Aladdin’s rug with Alan, but she also was shown with a light saber. And she said “someone” is going to be a princess. I would hope her and not Alan. 🙂 But the Aladdin song and the Beauty and the Beast song are both crap for a foxtrot. Sailor met Cinderella, apparently, which would imply the Cinderella song. Ally was also in the Beast’s library – and that song would work for contemporary. And they would so totally make Kate do Mary Poppins. And because the producers are who they are, I’m guessing Karamo gets the Lion King song. My GUESSES are below.
ETA2: Just saw Lauren’s tweet with mermaids in it. 🙂
Ally and Sasha – Contemporary (“Beauty and the Beast” from Beauty and the Beast)
Kel and Witney – Jazz (“We’re All in This Together” from High School Musical)
S___ and Lindsay – Quickstep (“You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from Toy Story 4)
Kate and Pasha – Jazz (“A Spoonful of Sugar” from Mary Poppins)
James and Emma – Paso doble (“He’s a Pirate” from Pirates of the Caribbean)
Hannah and Alan – Foxtrot (“A Whole New World” from Aladdin)
Sailor and Val – Viennese Waltz (“A Dream is A Wish Your Heart Makes” from Cinderella)
Lauren and Gleb – Samba (“Under the Sea” from The Little Mermaid)
Karamo and Jenna – Samba (“I Just Can’t Wait to Be King” from The Lion King)
Thanks to R2M in the comments for the heads up on a Disney fansite that claims to have the complete song list – see below:
- A Whole New World from Aladdin (Zayn and Zhavia)
- A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes from Cinderella
- Under the Sea from The Little Mermaid
- A Spoonful of Sugar from Mary Poppins
- Beauty and the Beast from Beauty and the Beast (John Legend & Ariana Grande)
- You’ve Got a Friend in Me from Toy Story 4
- We’re All in This Together from High School Musical
- I Just Can’t Wait to Be King from The Lion King (2019)
- He’s a Pirate from Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
I don’t like Disney night as it is, and I was hoping we were rid of jazz and contemporary. Maybe it’s just for this week, hopefully? Oh well, I agree that the 3 that got those styles will at least be able to dance them, and not just have a partner who dances around them. Maybe Pasha can choreograph a decent jazz for once, and I know Kate will likely act the hell out of it.
Sean and a quickstep-yikes. I also worry about Karamo with a samba. I think Lauren would do fine, except her problem is going to be her partner.
I’ll stand over here in the corner ’cause I know HOW much I’m in the minority on this one here but I often like the dances with elaborate costumes and sets, often don’t mind the the extra dancers. And I’m the anti-Len, Bruno disciple who loves new takes on these dances with fusions of styles and futzing about if the choreography is good and entertaining.
So, I’m really looking forward to at least the costumes from Disney week. I can hardly wait to see what Pasha comes up with for Jazz week with Kate! And I hope that will really work well for Kel and Witney.
#colleen I am the same way., the more out of the box, bigger a dance is the more I love it. I miss the pros being able to showcase their creativity and while we may be minorities on here I don’t think we are minorities when you consider all the shows fans.
I hope were getting a Charleston soon (or at all). It’s a personal favorite of mine. <3. Also, has the show completely removed the slow Waltz?
Judging from the dance styles, here are my guesses for Disney Week:
Lauren will probably get the Little Mermaid and Karamo will get the Lion King. These are songs that have been used for sambas before and TLM has a female protagonist vs TLK with a male protagonist and they usually try to make it about the star. Kate will probably get Mary Poppins and I’m really excited with what Pasha will come up with. I couldn’t truly enjoy a MP number since Sharna and Charlie’s in season 18. Sailor has the only V Waltz so I’m guessing she’ll get BATB. Kel has the other jazz, I see him doing HSM. Idk if we’ll get numbers for Frozen 2 and The Lady and the Tramp (it’s possible because we’re having HSM) but if we do, Hannah could get TLATT since she has a foxtrot. The new Frozen song could be used for a Paso or a Contemporary (judging from the bits we got in the trailer) so it works for both Ally and James. I see them giving it to James tho, they tapped on the fact that he has small kids a lot. What are your guesses?
The full song list is here:

Based on this… I think the dances will be as followed (best guess):
Lauren-Under the Sea Samba
Kate-Spoonful of Sugar Jazz
Karamo-I Just Can’t Wait to Be King Samba
S.S-You’ve Got A Friend In Me Quickstep
Kel-We’re All In This Together Jazz
James-He’s A Pirate Paso
Ally-A Whole New World Contemporary
Hannah-Beauty and The Beast Foxtrot
Sailor-A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes-V Waltz (she met Cinderella at Disneyland)
May not mean anything, but Sasha posted on his IG story when he and Ally were at Disneyland, and they were in Beast’s library and made references to that movie. So that was my guess was them getting that.
I saw Karamo on Instagram wearing a Simba hat, which is definitely a clue.
Looks like I got Lindsay’s song right…
Looking forward to Hannah and Alan dancing to Whole new World. Love the song and love the couple. NOte: Zayn version, Love him, too!
Heh. SS retweeted a tweet that guessed he was dancing to Mary Poppin’s, although Lindsay was spotted wearing the cowgirl from Toy Story’s hat…that would be good if he did get Mary Poppins though…the toy story song is too slow. If he did get that one, that’s called giving him the Paula Deen quickstep.
