Dancing with the Stars Season 29, Week 3 – LIVE BLOG

Question of the night….maybe we should bet on it. They are down to 14 couples. Where will the extra time go? Choose from the following:

A) Tyra talks WAY more.
B) The Judges all get more time.
C) Tyra talks more, cuts Derek off and he cuts a bitch.

Just kidding on that last one, of course…he can be cutting in his humor though. I would pay to see that one. I vote A. You?

T-Minus 11 minutes and I haven’t eaten dinner yet.

And the all about Tyra show starts. I thought she was going to ride the snail. 🙂

Skai is up first…love that she grabbed Alan’s hair to try to stop a fall.

Imma be a little bit behind for a while since I hit pause to eat. Before I hit pause, I was trying to figure out what was wrong with Skai’s dance. Didn’t seem like she missed any steps, but it felt wrong with the music. Then Derek gave his comments and I had a bit of an “a Ha!” moment.

Bruno is getting plenty of time to talk, as sis Derek did. It’s still early yet. Bruno talked about elasticity. CAI makes a good point about her talking like she’s dancing for no one. It’s probably quite hard.

Scores: 6, 6, 6 for a total of 18.

Monica up next with her V. Waltz. I hate the running down the stairs that Val always seems to include. At least she did it alone which is a bit more graceful. Her butt is out, pull it in girl! All in all though, a pretty dance.

Bruno says she made it to shore safely. Fluid, flowing…be careful not to lose the posture (which is what I was talking about). CAI says she was like a different person tonight. Says when in hold you have to stay in close to Val. Derek says beautiful but watch the feet.

And Tyra starts blathering.

Scores: 7, 7, 7 for a total of 21.

See, when you’re behind the broadcast a bit, you can fast forward through Tyrant. 🙂

Justina is up next! With a very fast Charleston (a switch from the press release, I think). Starts out pretty safe, and she gets off time. Seems like she missed a few steps as well. Kind of a weird dance for her.

CAI loved it, says that they match each other. But they weren’t in sync. Says it could have used more energy. Derek says you think of swivels and foot work, needed more energy. I agree. Bruno agrees with Derek, essentially.

Scores: 7, 6, 6 for a total of 19.

AJ and Cheryl up next with a Quickstep. Now that’s a cute tea party!

Again with the running down the stairs. Seemed a bit light on the quickstep towards the end and not many of those runs that I like

Derek says he always smiles with AJ, and says his frame is pretty good. Needs a bit of refinement, but good job. Bruno goes insane. He loved it, says he kept it going very well. CAI liked that he put his own spin on it, made it a bit funky, thought his elbow dropped a little bit.

Tyra’s questions are ridiculous.

Scores: 7, 7, 7 for a total of 21.

CAI and Tyra both look ridiculous. Sorry, but both way too over the top. Now Derek looks drool worthy.

Anne up with another quickstep. At least Keo carried her down the steps. I find her so entertaining and she’s a pretty good dancer. Breaking hold in a quickstep is a no no though. I doubt it gets called. I think I liked that better than AJs….by a lot.

Bruno is saying something I can’t quite understand…but I think he liked the dance. CAI loved the start of it and then says they lost control, they were out of sync in their partnership. Calls out the lift. Derek says to learn the routine by herself and dance it by herself and then it can be two people coming together. Loves her acting and the commitment to the roles.

Scores: 5, 5, 5 for a total of 15.

Jeannie is up next dancing to a song from UP. A V. Waltz…not allowed to be cheesy. 🙂

Love the balloons…glad they let go of them though because that would have gotten tough. Smooth, cute, pretty dance.Little unsteady on one of the turns. Nice!!

CAI says she’s great as a little old lady. Tells her to watch her turns and don’t shorten the lines. Derek says it was beautiful, breaths through the movement, her best performance. Also mentions the turns. Bruno says they captured the essence of the film. Perfectly in tune.

Scores: 7, 7, 8 for a total of 22. I love seeing people excited for 7s. She’s so awesome.

Numbers update: Anne has quite a hole to crawl out of as of right now. She’s 10k behind Skai, 15k behind Justina and 25k behind AJ/Monica. That’s votes per million votes cast, for newbies. But luckily for her, there are a few dancers that aren’t as good as her still to go.

Nelly is up next…after a preview of “Soul”.  They’re doing a foxtrot and it starts off very pretty and romantic.  Again with the stairs! I think it just ruins everything. I think it caused them to lose a bit of the flowiness. But a nice dance. Daniella is so pretty.

Derek liked it, thought it was smooth. Didn’t know what to expect. Said there was a little timing issue. Bruno says it was tender and attentive. Proper slow foxtrot. But be careful of the shoulders. CAI says there’s a naturalness. Next step is to break out.

Scores: 6, 6, 6 for a total of 18.

Carole up next with a Samba. Pretty cats!! Love them.

Love their costumes/makeup Commitment. This is a pretty slow samba…with stairs of course. Was that a Samba roll? Mostly there’s very little content in this and she’s dancing in a circle for a large part of it.

Bruno is stunned, says he’s never seen a samba like this one. No bounce, walked through it. All true. CAI thinks she danced it with a lot of love, has beautiful hands. Lacking most of the other things required. Derek thanks her for taking care of big cats, give a 10 for costume. Dancing was lacking the parts required but she’s out there doing it.

Scores: 5, 4, 3 for a total of 12 – that 3 from Bruno is pretty brutal but sadly about right.

Aaaannd…we’re back to Kaitlyn’s injury. I swear the producers drool over injuries. She’s doing a rumba. Very pretty start. No stairs. This is a gorgeous dance, Kaitlyn is really a natural. Ending was perfect.

CAI says best dance of the night by miles. Essence of rumba, brought it all together. Derek says she’s lyrical and beautiful, he’s being picky about the shoes. Bruno talks about breaking waves, total control great flow, etc.

Scores: 8, 7, 8 for a total of 23. Very deserving in my opinion. I loved it.

Numbers Update: Well, Anne has a bit of breathing room as Carole now needs to get 10k more votes per million votes cast in order to be safe over her.

Vernon up next dancing a quickstep as a candle. His posture still needs work. But he’s got content! I don’t see any missed steps either.  He looks like he’s having fun too. 🙂

Derek says real men play candlesticks, he radiates joy, he loves watching him dance so much that he almost doesn’t notice some of the foot issues. Bruno says he has light and easy action, he’s connect, much lighter on his feet. CAI says it’s amazing that they’ve found their balance as a partnership, says it was one of her favorite dances of the night.

Scores: 8, 7, 7 for a total of 22. Better than I expected but I like it. 🙂

Nev looks amazing as a pirate. I think I have a crush. 🙂

Numbers Update: Here’s where we are…the numbers on the right are how many votes per million votes cast that the lower scored dancer needs to stay over the higher scored dancer.

Carole vs. Anne 1.03% 10,345
Carole vs.
Carole vs. Skai/Nelly 2.07% 20,690
Carole vs. Justina/Vernon 2.41% 24,138
Carole vs.  AJ/Monica 3.10% 31,034
Carole vs. Jeannie 3.45% 34,483

Anne vs. Skai/Nelly 1.03% 10,345
Anne vs. Justina/Vernon 1.38% 13,793
Anne vs. AJ/Monica 2.41% 24,138

Nev is up with an Argentine Tango. Lord, that’s a cute child. Len!! Good to see you man. 🙂 Dang he’s a good dancer. He moves so naturally. I liked the Jack Sparrow flair at the beginning as well. Love the flip. love the lifts. Great job. I think he’s my fav.

Bruno goes off as per usual, calls it a hit. Kept the inebriated act, but still got the AT in there. CAI loved how she could balance the acting and the lifts were appropriate. Derek is cooking with hot sauce, loved the gauchos, loved the character, says he nailed it.

Scores: 8, 8, 8 for a 24.

Mini-numbers Update: They’re making it very, very difficult for anyone other than Carole and Anne to be in the bottom two. Chrishell still has to dance, so we’ll see if they make me work hard at the end of the show. 🙂

Johnny up next with a rumba to something from Mulan. His form looks good in rehearsal. Wow…his parents gave up a lot for his dreams. Amazing.

Love the costuming. Off to a great start. This dance seems to fit him. Very lovely dance. Good job Brit on the choreography. That was beautiful!!

CAI is crying, she says it felt good to watch that. He’s transformed from a skater. She says think up. Derek shouts out to the parents. Says it was beautiful, the arms the lines, turned out foot. Bruno says the shapes and extensions were exquisite and he’s started to project emotion. Keep on this track.

Scores: 8, 8, 8 for a total of 24. Well deserved, I think.

We’ll see how going so late in the show works for Jesse and Chrishell – it can’t be good. If they score close to either Carole or Anne, it could get interesting.

Jesse up next with something from Newsies…a broadway show that I haven’t seen, sadly. A jive. He’s a bit off time. Love this song. Not a bad dance, but just a bit off time. It was fun though. Love Sharna’s outfit.

Derek loves newsies, says he thinks Jesse wasn’t as comfortable with this style and he was off time. Bruno thought it was enthusiastic, says he played the role brilliantly, says the footwork was better, he’s moving better than he ever has. CAI agrees with Bruno, but she also agrees with Derek.

Scores: 7, 6, 7 for a total of 20 out of 30.

Chrishell is looking lovely and is dancing last with a Waltz. She’s so pretty. And this dance stars off very pretty, but her posture needs a bit of work at points. She stuck her butt out at one point, but she really brought it back together. Very lovely dance.

Bruno says she’s the belle of the ball. Gorgeous and he could feel the romance. CAI approves, says they were stunning together. Says she needs to work on the shoulder. Derek says they’re stunning. Keep the feet together on the turns, but it was a beautiful dance.

Scores: 7, 7, 8 for a total of 22. I got no real gripe with that.

Numbers Update: Unless I screwed something up, which is possible when doing numbers at the speed of light, Carole and Anne are a good ways behind the rest of the dancers. I think Carole will go home tonight since she was in the bottom two last week…barring some wacky voting anyway.  If Carole isn’t in the bottom two, Anne will likely go home against anyone else.

Carole vs. Anne 1.00% 10,033
Carole vs. Skai/Nelly 2.01% 20,067
Carole vs. Justina/Vernon 2.34% 23,411
Carole vs. Jesse 2.68% 26,756
Carole vs.  AJ/Monica 3.01% 30,100
Carole vs. Jeannie/vernon/Chrishell 3.34% 33,445
Anne vs. Skai/Nelly 1.00% 10,033
Anne vs. Justina 1.34% 13,378
Anne vs. Jesse 1.67% 16,722
Anne vs. AJ/Monica 2.34% 23,411

Results in no particular order:

SAFE: Nelly and Daniella

SAFE: Nev and Jenna

SAFE; Monica and Val

Safe: Vernon and Peta

Safe: Chrishell and Gleb

Safe: Kaitlyn and Artem

Safe: Johnny and Brit

Safe: Jesse and Sharna

Safe: Jeannie and Brandon

Safe: Justina and Sasha

Safe: AJ and Cheryl

Safe: Skai and Alan

Anne and Carole are the bottom two. The judges pick who gets to stay for next week.

Derek – Anne and Keo

Bruno – Anne and Keo

And that means Anne and Keo are safe and Carole is eliminated. CAI would have also saved Anne and Keo. Carole has a positive attitude.

Man, my Tivo cuts Tyrant’s end speech off. Thanks Tivo!! Woman can’t shut up, but it was better than last week. She hopefully got the memo and shared some of that extra time with the judges.
