Derek Hough Set to Perform on Dancing with the Stars Season 29

Looks like October 19 is the first, hopefully not the last, time they will be performing this season!! Hooray!! According to ET via AOL (I’ve not seen it anywhere else yet):
Derek Hough is returning to the ballroom! On Wednesday, ABC announced that the 35-year-old Dancing With the Stars judge will perform during the Oct. 19 episode, marking the first time he’s done so since 2017.
The dancer will perform with his girlfriend — who’s also a former DWTS pro — Hayley Erbert. Hough, who’s currently serving as a DWTS judge, previously competed as a pro for 17 seasons, most recently in 2016. He won the mirrorball a total of six times, the most of any pro.
Excited about this. I miss seeing him dance. I love that he will perform with Hayley. I wonder what type of dance he will dance and to which music. I can’t wait for this. I’m sure it’s going to be fantastic.
Same night The Voice starts its new season. Smooth move, ABC.
Been loving the Dayley podcasts from Derek & Hayley. I hope they bring that same energy on the 19th.
It seems a little weird to me that he’s returning to dance with his girlfriend. With the show making such a point of isolating couples who are actually married why would they bring in a random dancer for Derek to dance with? They could have just used Emma Slater who’s been on the show already and gone through all the protocols. If they’re just going to have dancers popping in and out they may as well bring the troupe back and be done with it. Mind you, I’m happier with the stripped down dances and no troupe.
@Monica, he and Hayley live together though, and I’m sure she will undergo tests. I don’t know if Derek really comes in contact with any of the couples on the show outside of when filming is happening. So it would probably be okay.
I agree Nukegrrrl seems funny they are doing this the night The Voice premieres. Even though DWTS will be in the home stretch at that point, I still expect The Voice to take a hit in the ratings for them.
@Kara, I didn’t know they lived together. That makes more sense then. I still wish they had tapped Emma. I miss having her on the show and I honestly don’t know much about his girlfriend. It’s probably going to be a super cute dance though with it being his girlfriend and all. Wasn’t she with the troupe at one point? Have they danced together on the show before or will this be the first time?
It makes FAR less sense for him to dance with Emma in any case. As far as I know, he only gets relatively close to the other judges.
