Dancing with the Stars Season 29, Week 8 – LIVE BLOG
Poor Jeannie – best wishes to her for a quick recovery. 🙁
In much better news, Lindsay had her baby!! All is reportedly well. I believe she said on instagram that she was at 39 weeks.
T-Minus 30 minutes…
Chrishell actually made me laugh in the cold open. 🙂
Good thing Tyra didn’t walk out while the pyro was going off – all that tulle would go up in an instant. That dress is ridiculous.
Jeannie had surgery last night for her Epiglotitis – a life-threatening condition, actually.
Kaitlyn going first – almost guaranteeing that she gets another low score. I wonder if they’re going to try to get rid of her (except Derek, who didn’t get the memo) because Hannah won last season? Jive should be a good dance for her, I think.
She looks great. She’s on time, I think, plenty of content, and she seems to be having a good time. You will NEVER see Chrishell doing this much dancing. Her kicks and flicks are good and they’re well in sync. CAI will go ape shit over the lifts, of course.
Derek seems happy, says she has so much content, jam packed. Amazing choreography. Says her arms and legs are beautiful but so long the asset may become a liability. Bruno says she has what it takes. Wants more passion, more attack and clearer finish. CAI says she’s come back with grace and energy. And of course bags on the lifts (which Derek and Bruno disagree with), says this is one of her best dances.
Scores: 8, 9, 8 for a total of 25 which seems underscored to me. Chrishell has scored better with far less content and don’t even get me started on Monica.
Nev up next with his V. Waltz. Cute kids!
Odd opening. But that was a choreographic choice. Seems like his butt is out too far. He and Derek have the same stylist, it seems. All in all, a pretty dance and he danced it very well, but it’s not that special.
Bruno says he was oozing charm and charism, and it shows that he led with control. Light on his feet. Don’t dig on the fall part of the rise and fall. CAI says bravo – very elegant, noting some weird spots and a loss of balance. Derek says the opening was odd (not his word) – lots of intention and clarity. Beautiful dance.
Scores: after the break….Tyrant is getting better at that transition. Only took 8 weeks.
Scores: 9, 9, 9 for a total of 27…and I fail to see the difference between what Nev did and what Kaitlyn did, but Derek was the only one to score them the same.
Justina next with her Samba, which is likely right in her wheelhouse.
Opening move was stiff, but she cuts loose when she gets to the bottom of the stairs. Her arms are all wrong after the samba rolls – looked weird. But other than those little things, she did a great job.
CAI says it was so good, loves how she makes them all feel. Says there was a stumble in there…which I missed. Great energy, well done. Derek says she looks beautiful, says that song is sacred in the latin community, needs to articulate the feet a bit more. Fun to watch. Bruno loves watching her because of her joyful presence. All the content was there.
Score: 9, 9, 9 for a total of 27
Nelly up next with his rumba. I have my fingers crossed for him. This story about his sister is heartbreaking.
So smooth and graceful, needs a bit more hips. His posture is improving. His arms are a bit extra. Daniella was doing more of the dancing, but the rumba does showcase the woman.
Derek asks how he’s feeling. Loves the show because of how it transcends scoring and all that. Derek thanks him. Bruno says the man is a frame in the rumba and he did that. He stepped it though more than dancing it. CAI is proud of how far he’s come. Level isn’t quite high enough, most of the shapes were from the arms instead of the hips.
Scores: 7, 7, 7 for a total of 21 – that feels a bit too low for me, but not by a huge amount.
Bit worried about Nelly – he’s about 20k votes behind Kaitlyn and I’ll legit be disappointed if he’s eliminated.
Chrishell is up next with her V. Waltz.
Of course it starts out on a bed with Gleb doing all the work. Then there’s rolling around on the floor. And they go back to bed. Lots of angsty acting. And the site is acting up so much that I can’t focus.
CAI says it was graceful, elegant and sexy. Her arm out of hold is odd and her neck is cricking. Derek is a funny mess, can see her improving each week, tells her to watch her transitions, need more fluidity. Bruno is being Bruno. Says she has some very good moments, but she has to be able to sustain it.
Scores: 8, 8, 8 for a total of 24
Skai is up next with a Salsa which starts off a tiny bit sloppy. but then she transitions into killing it. 🙂 She still has some weird awkward spots, bt a vast improvement from early on. Great lifts too.
CAI says she didn’t quite nail the landings on the lifts. Derek says she seems more grounded and more balanced. Derek loves lifts and tricks but there were one or two too many (agreed), wants more dancing. Bruno agrees with CAI, looked a bit wobbly in places.
Scores: 8, 9, 8 for a total of 25
Numbers Update: There’s a good bit of space between a lot of the couples, so far. But that second dance will change a lot
Nelly vs. Chrishell | 1.49% | 14851.49 |
Nelly vs. Kaitlyn/Skai | 1.98% | 19801.98 |
Nelly vs. Nev/Justina | 2.97% | 29702.97 |
Chrishell vs. Kaitlyn/Skai | 0.50% | 4950.50 |
Chrishell vs. Nev/Justina | 1.49% | 14851.49 |
Nelly appears to be in real trouble, which makes me a bit sad.
Johnny up next with his foxtrot. I agree about Shawn Mendes. Hot.
I like Johnny’s look tonight ad I love how this dance starts off. There’s a weird spot towards the beginning, not sure what happened there. He’s doing a lovely job, IMO.
Derek says Shawn would be proud. Beautiful arms, great frame, needs to be a bit more gradual rise and fall. Bruno agrees with Derek. Says he has a wonderful sweeping movement. CAI loves the fashion choice, loves the artistry, also liked the jerky rise and fall, that it was an interesting choice.
Scores: 9, 9, 9 for a total of 27
They’re doing a nice package on Jeannie – scary situation. Aannndd Tyrant ruins it with her faux tears.
AJ is up last – and this week it is good to go last, since it’s not truly last due to the relay. His story about addiction is heartbreaking. Cute kids too!
Not sure how I feel about this dance. Seems like a story that doesn’t really fit the style. And that spin at the end seemed rough.
Bruno was so captivated by the intensity, the intent, the purpose. But he lost a lot of the rumba action (agreed), there wasn’t a lot of rumba in it. CAI agrees with Bruno, he was passionate, but there wasn’t enough content or hip action. She wants him to bust through, sloppy on the edges. Derek says a hero heals his own wounds and shows others how to as well. Sometimes you have to do your routine for you – agrees on the lack of content.
Scores: 8, 8, 8 for a total of 24
Numbers Update: I don’t know what happened to make all the numbers round. Fate?? Here’s the standings before the second round of dancing. I’ll be surprised if it’s not Nelly and Chrishell in the bottom, I guess
Nelly vs. Chrishell/AJ | 1.50% | 15000.00 |
Nelly vs. Kaitlyn/Skai | 2.00% | 20000.00 |
Nelly vs. Nev/Justina/Johnny | 3.00% | 30000.00 |
Chrishell/AJ vs. Kaitlyn/Skai | 0.50% | 5000.00 |
Chrishell/AJ vs. Nev/Justina/Johnny | 1.50% | 15000.00 |
Carrie Ann’s group is up first with a cha cha – Nev, Chrishell, and Nelly, in that order. This is set up for Nev to win. Nelly is likely toast after this.
Nev starts strong, with great form, but his years of experience should help that.
Chrishell is doing fine, but Nev really set a high bar. I thought they were getting different songs. chrishell got off time there at the end. Nelly is just having a ball, but also gets off time. His section seemed a lot shorter than Nev’s. I would rank them Nev, Nelly, Chrishell.
CAI says it was so fun, Nev started off weaker than she hoped for, nailed it once the pyro went off. Chrishell had more content, Nelly gets most improved, but he needs to keep his head up.
Nev’s chest looks like it’s been gardened.
Nev gets a 3, Chrishell gets a 2 and Nelly also gets a 2.
Derek is overseeing V. Walt trio with Justina and Johnny (and Jeannie). This one could be a tough call.
Justina stars of with wonky arms, but she gets them back in line quickly….and that was short. Johnny just has so much more style in this style of dance. His arms and hands are great.
Derek sends his love to Jeannie. Loves Justina but would have liked more energy. Derek says Johny was fantastic.
Derek gives Justina 2 extra points and Johnny 3 extra points. I don’t think that changes anything for Nelly.
Numbers Update: Yeah, I can’t do these numbers fast enough to make a difference. It reorders the couples enough that I can’t redo the whole chart. Bottom line is, Nelly is still way at the bottom and needs lots of votes (15k) per million votes cast to get past Chrishell.
This relay is likely the most well matched. AJ first, then Kaitlyn and then Skai. Samba is the hardest dance of the three, however. My guess is that Kaitlyn will be on the bottom since latin isn’t her strong point.
AJ starts off and it’s okay. Kaitlyn is better than I expected, a bit sassy. She gets cheerleadery toward the end. Skai is killing it and then has an odd spot in the middle.
Sounds like Bruno liked Kaitlyn the best, then AJ and then Skai but it’s a tough call.
Bruno gives 3 to AJ, and 3 to Kaitlyn and 2 points to Skai. Yep…still Nelly…or maybe Chrishell… going home. If it’s someone else, I’ll try to do a numbers post this week. Can’t promise. Work is hell. 🙂
Seems like they could be running a bit short…plenty of time left in the show, so expect a lot of blathering.
Here we go:
SAFE: Nelly and Daniella – YAY
SAFE: Justina and Sasha
SAFE: AJ and Cheryl
SAFE: Kaitlyn and Artem
SAFE: Johnny and Britt – Yay!!
SAFE: Nev and Jenna
Okay, Skai is a little bit surprising. Derek is looking to the other judges. 🙂
CAI saves Skai
Bruno saves Skai
Chrishell hits the road. Derek says he would save Tyra. LOL. He says he would have saved Skai as well.
Thank you America – that was the right choice. I’m convinced that my votes for Nelly did the trick. 🙂
Can’t wait!
Congrats to Lindsey! I’ve enjoyed following all of her pre-baby stuff on IG.
I’m really sad about Jeannie. Sounds like it was serious, but glad she appears to be okay. I loved the energy she brought, and how she just had a good time. I’d love for them to give her another chance again, but I doubt that would happen.
I’m thinking Skai or Nelly might go tonight. I’m hoping for Chrishell, however.
What the heck is Tyra wearing?!?! Hideous!
So sad about jeannie she was one of my favorites! Also what the heck is Tyra wearing she looks like big bird
I don’t know whose dressing Tyrant every week, but they must hate that she replaced Tom as much as the viewers do. Either that or she really thinks that looks good, which yikes.
Considering how the quality of dances has suffered this season (due to the limited rehearsal times), I can only imagine how hard it must have been to learn two.
I thought Kaitlyn’s jive was actually pretty weak, probably her worst dance yet. CA with her stupid lifts, because of that jump. This is what Cheryl was complaining about last week in regards to the inconsistent comments the judges make. I do agree with Derek that there was a lot of choreography, though, so that was nice. I’d be surprised if Bachelor Nation let her down in the voting.
Kaitlyn and artem were ok. Wasn’t wowed whatsoever but no harm no foul either I guess. It’s an 8 from me. Now nev and Jenna were amazing. Not as amazing as last week but I loved every second. I’d give them a 10
I know we all know Tyra sucks, but man 20 minutes in and I can’t. She comes out like Belle from Beauty and the Beast, when Disney week was 2 weeks ago, and now she’s changed into something that’s blinding me. Then Nev is talking Jeannie and Tyra is asking him about scores. WTF? Like at least transition from Jeannie to scores. it seemed so insensitive.
I’m actually shocked that Nev got all 9s when he slipped multiple times.
Starting to believe there actually might be a vendetta against Kaitlyn because she’s been underscored every week, but especially this week.
Hopefully her votes get her through this week- I want her and Artem to win!
Justina is beyond happy all the time and I love that. This was an amazing samba. I’d do give it a 10. Costume was iffy
Nev did something I didn’t think was possible, which was make me like Jenna. I really enjoyed that dance. His scores were fair.
Really loved Justina’s dance-my favorite so far of the night. Does CA just look for any little thing she can call out? I just feel like sometimes she hesitates when looking for something to say.
Kaitlyn ans Artem were underscored that was a fun jive, content rich. Nev and Jenna were overscored his posture was terrible that’s a big issue for VWaltz and his bum stuck out and hunched shoulders and ot was kinda boring. Justina brought the fun but lacked technique so that was overscored. Looks like a bus is coming for Kaitlyn. Disappointing
Justina always puts a smile on my face when she dances. She is such a joy!
Well that was not a good one for nelly. Good again no harm no foul because I liked it. I’d say an 8
That was emotional from Nelly. I can appreciate Derek’s commentary-I feel like that’s how you judge, especially when someone just poured their heart out.I will say that it wasn’t his best dance.
On an unrelated note, does Daniella remind anyone else of Edyta? Not sure if it’s her arms or legs, but I always think of Edyta while looking at her dance.
I laughed so hard out loud when Carrie Ann asked Kaitlyn if she could do that on her own, she said no and when Carrie Ann said she was going to call it a lift. Kaitlyn’s quick “yes I can” in response. She knew what was up haha
Crishell and gleb didn’t annoy me as much today and only becuase I knew Bruno would be hilarious. The dance itself was very very gleb. That’s all I got. I’m gonna say an 8
Chrishell’s dance was more gimmicks than dancing. I’d consider her weaker than Nelly. They need to go back to giving Gleb duds.
@Princess Heidi, I’m also worried about Nelly. If he’s in the bottom 2, I think there’s a very good chance he’s gone.
Gleb with the off-brand version of him and Jana’s “Can’t Keep My Hands To Myself” a few seasons ago,,,,
Chrishell literally did a few seconds of hold. Again that was a meh dance. Deserves a 23 max. I still don’t understand how she got the scores she got last week. The judges’ comments weren’t too critical tonight. I dislike her the most out of the remaining couples and really hope she goes.
So Carrie Ann isn’t going to comment on the lift in that mess of a VWaltz from Gleb and Chrishell.? The girl is stiff and as Derek mentioned the transitio s are very rough. Nelly well I appreciated the heart but agree the technique wasn’t there. Too bad he took a step backwards this week
Its been soo hard to see the judges always been nice with chrishell and dont blame the same things that they usually poinf on other contestants!
How the hell does the non dancer Chrishell get an 8?
Skai is the little robot of the competition, Her “dancing” does nothing for me
Chrishell’s dance was overscored, but not surprising.
I was worried about Skai. Latin dances haven’t been the strongest for her. That was actually really good though! I think she’s finally getting comfortable. CA and Bruno really gave that an 8?
I keep forgetting we have two dances tonight. I’m surprised they haven’t been hyping that.
I really feel that Alan should stop overdoing it with the lifts. I mean most of the times he does too many and Skai can’t land all of them smoothly. Last week it was brilliant but today it was a miss. I want her to do so well though.
Now I’m confused. Skye got two eights and a nine and I get why the nine but the eight seems like a bit much in terms of nit picking in my opinion. She was equally as good as an samba from any past finalist I’ve seen. Dare I say her best dance besides last week. I’d give her a 10
@Max, I agree. She seems like a nice person, but as a dancer, she’s the weakest one left. Honestly, the only person I could’ve maybe justified sending home over Chrishell just went home last week.
Johnny did amazing. Ballroom dances are more in his wheelhouse.
I loved hearing from Jeannie. I’m glad she’s doing okay. I will miss seeing her and Brandon this season. If they ever decide they want a co-host again, she gets my vote to take over.
I was thinking how much better Johnny’s V Waltz was last week over Nevs this week. I liked Johnny’s Foxtrot but I like traditional foxtrot, the technique is tough to master instead of making artistic choices to cover up the fact that the technique was incorrect.
If anyone would like to tweet their opinions to producers of DWTS it appears someone is working the @BBCStudiosLA account on their behalf.
It seems somewhat independent of the @DancingABC account.
Johnny and Britt were perfection I think and would have given her a ten. That video from Jeanie had me in tears. Full blown tears. Anyways, Aj and Cheryl are my favs of the night by far but I don’t think it was a rumba either. I’d say a 10 for performance but an eight for execution.
I haven’t been AJ’s biggest fan, but I appreciated him sharing his story. I’m sure too many viewers can relate. And I either never knew or forgot that Cheryl suffered from addiction. I enjoyed that dance, you could feel the emotion in it. I’m actually surprised the judges panned it. Cheryl doesn’t look happy.
But of course they loved Chrishell’s non-dance.
AJ dance with a lot of emotion, and I think the choreography let him down. I felt like Cheryl was trying to bring contemporary emotional impact into it and it came off as throwing away the Rumba
That cha cha relay had one good part: nev. he killed it. Nelly was second place for me. And chrishell was a weird one. She had fun?
Carrie Ann is extremely annoying this season.
The cha cha group was underwhelming, especially because Nev was going to come out on top. I wonder if they gave CA this group on purpose. Nelly actually did okay. He wasn’t great, but not as bad as I thought. I’d rank them Nev-Nelly-Chrishell.
@Rebecca I wouldn’t say she is the weakest dancer left. There’s Chrishell and Nelly and I think she’s technically considerably ahead of AJ. Last week she definitely deserved 10s (It is my favorite dance of the whole season followed closely by Nev’s Paso Doble). I think Alan’s choreography hasn’t worked for her at all (again not counting her AT).
Now AJ, his Rumba was sloppy, like really sloppy. I think it was overscored. I don’t know, it felt like he wasn’t in it that much.
Please replace Tyra with Adult Yoda immediately!!
That second relay was so much better. I’d say 3 and 3 for each but Johnny had the best part of the song
I’m sorry but Chrishell dances like Elaine Benes she’s just awkward. If Nelly would have kept the head up I enjoyed him over Nev, but he looks like he’s already defeated and that makes me sad.
At least the other relay dances are a little more suspenseful. Justina’s VW was lovely. She can really do any style. Johnny did really well, too. I think I’d give him the edge. And I couldn’t tell if he messed up there in the beginning, or if it was the camera shaking.
This last group of AJ, Kaitlyn, and Skai could go either way. I’d rank them Kaitlyn-Skai-AJ.
I wasn’t going to vote tonight, but I threw mine to Nelly. I hope he’s got enough of a fanbase to keep him out of the bottom 2. He’s screwed otherwise.
Third relay was great but skai and Aj were the best of the three to me
Now that’s what I mean. Skai does so much better without lifts. AJ didn’t do much Samba, I don’t know how he got a 3. Kaitlyn got a well deserved 3 and I think Skai might have deserved a 3 too. Oh well.
Wow Nelly is safe! Yay!
This result was exactly what I needed. Goodbye fake smile. Goodbye him trying to sex up a dance to the point where it’s weird. Just bye
Poor Skai looked disappointed. But I wasn’t surprised she was in the bottom 2.
Chrishell should have been gone weeks ago. It was definitely the right choice. That would have been insane if she didn’t land in the bottom 2.
When Nelly was called safe, you could almost feel everyone holding their breath.
And Tyrant said she can’t wait to show us what icon she’s dressed as next week…because it is all about her.
Thrilled that Nelly is still in the competition. Not sad about Chrishell
Ugh! Kaitlyn so underscored. I really think they’re trying to get rid of her and it’s so sad. She really wants to be here and to improve. Nev’s dance was overscored, think his butt was sticking out a bit too much. If Johnny got 27 for his Vw, nev’s should have been a 8,9,8 this week. And if nelly got all 7s, I think Chrishell should have gotten the same. Agree with all the other scores.
Finally Chrishell is done and the right person goes home. I have to say when Nelly was called safe I was expecting a shocking elim so I’m pleasantly surprised. Tonight was certainly proof that Nelly has a huge chance of making the final because despite the scores he is raking in those votes.
Kaitlyn did A great Samba. AJ didn’t do a Samba and Skai improved somewhat.
I don’t think Chrishell is fake, I think Gleb is the problem here.
Wow, 7 couples left and they’ve all received at least 3 9s for one of their dances! I don’t think that’s ever happened before? I think they each have their strong and weak dances, but overall, these last 7 are a talented group. They all have such good personalities too!
I like both Hannah and Kaitlyn a lot – they’re probably my favorite Bachelorettes of all…although the bar is low. But man, Kaitlyn has been wanting to be on this show for YEARS. I sure hope she doesn’t get hosed just because Hannah won.
Nelly is such an underdog when it comes to the dancing. I love that he’s improving and seems much more comfortable on the dance floor than in the first few weeks. He must be raking in those votes.
The right decision was made tonight. I think Skai might go home soon as well. She lacks the consistency most of the other contestants have at this point. It will be interesting to see what happens next week because most of the dancers left are either great or improving week by week.
Overall this week solidified for me that Kaitlyn is the best technical dancer in the competition despite the machinations and lowballing from Carrie Ann to off her. The Samba was really good as was the Jive so she can do Latin and ballroom. I thought Nev would have done better since last week he was excellent, and becoming a new fave. He definitely has some technical issues and at times looks a little mechanical. Johnny on the other hand just oozes emotion, at times he gets carried away and slips up but gosh he’s watchable. AJ is faking any strong technique and that’s too bad but maybe he just can’t learn ballroom so they lean heavily on what he knows, stadium choreography to get him through. Nelly is of course bringing a street vibe and I love it because it’s authentic, like Justina she’s definitely not the best technical dancer but she brings a Latin flavor you just can’t fake.
Kaitlyn suffered from going first tonight I think. Had that Jive been later on in the show I think it would have been scored higher, for me it was her best dance in a good few weeks and probably the second best of the night although I’d need to watch everyone again to confirm.
I actually don’t think their were many standout dances at all tonight which was reflected in the scoring. I really enjoyed Johnny’s dance though. He had the best showing tonight with the relay dance as well for me.
It’s a big week in the real world so I wish everyone good health and to stay safe wherever you are.
I can’t, but also can, believe that Nelly checked his watch during CAI judging.
Tyra looked like she was wearing a shower loofah but all the judges looked nice. Sad to hear about Jeanie she was always fun to watch.
Kaitlyn’s Jive was lackluster and didn’t seem to have much content. Costuming is very disappointing this season.
Nev and partner had good costuming and did a decent Viennese Waltz. But, there were errors. I think he was overscored.
Justina is now my favorite to win. She looked very nice in the costumes and always has high energy and a great attitude. The dance wasn’t Flawless but it was good. Scores were fair.
Nelly and his partner looks great but Rumba is not his dance. He just does not have the quality of movement for that dance. Scores were harsh but not unfair. He would have been my pick to leave tonight even though I hate to have enjoyed the last few weeks with him.
Chrishell looks very pretty there is always so much time wasting all the way through her routines it’s just gets annoying. Her arms need work and I really hated the crawling on the floor bit. Gleb really let her down.
Skai took a step back this week she’s not dancing to the camera again and not with her partner. They were often out of sync and the lifts were not always performed well.
Johnny’s costume was not at all flattering for the foxtrot but his partner looked nice. I thought he threw his arms and has wonky posture. I really think he would benefit working with a male Pro funny shapes and lines.
I thought Tyra bawling and carrying on about losing Jeanne was way over the top and phony. She didn’t die after all. Still, I’ll miss her in this competition. She was the most fun by far. And I grew to really like Brandon I think you did a great job with her.
AJ had good costuming, but that was way too harsh for a Rumba. And he continues the throwaways arms straight out. Lots of wasted time for the emotional performance.
With the relays I agreed with Carrie Ann that never was the best.
But, I think Derek was wrong in giving three points to Johnny and only two to Justina. He had obvious errors in his routine.
I agreed with Bruno’s ranking.
I would have sent Nelly home this week if he had landed in the bottom two.
I think it was pretty obvious the judges would save Skia over Chrishell. Unless she has another big routine next week I think Skia will be out next.
Last week or the week before I commented that this season is exciting because there are many competitiors. I don’t like how the judges haven been undermining Kaitly while praising Chrishell, Nelly (last week) and AJ (this week). In my opinion and probably many agree the top 4 are: Nev, Kaitlyn, Johnny and Justina.
For me the next eliminations should be Nelly & AJ. They have been so underwhelming. Nelly teased improvement in his Samba and then stopped but still got rewarded. AJ barely has content in his dances (Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Samba relay) and is just overhyped and kind of annoying. I’ve been critical towards Skai the past few weeks but stil want her to have her moment and shine. I don’t know if at this point she can get into the top 4 but she sure started out there.
Even though this season has many nice contestans it is underwhelming in some ways. Usually week 6 would start having 2 dances per couple. Now according to Wikipedia this won’t happen again, even at the finals. How are they going to get 3 couples by Week 11 (a double and then a triple elim?)? Where are the usual Freestyle & Fusion Dances going to happen? I don’t know if Wikipedia is credible but if it’s right I’m not liking the season right now.
I miss watching this show but absolutely refused as long as ABC keeps Tyra Banks on the show. Really should bring back Tom and Erin, their chemistry was magic to the show. But if not them, find someone who isn’t in love with herself, please!
@Cori I agree with pretty much everything you said. For me, the whole episode felt underwhelming in terms of dance quality.
Kaitlyn and Nev both performed below their usual standard.
Justina was probably my favorite but even she made some mistakes.
Nelly’s Rumba was really bad, no dragging or gliding of his feet and he looked uncomfortable attempting the hip action and arm movement. Scores were harsh but fair.
There was barely any actual dancing from Chrishell, felt more like theatre performance than dance performance. Glad that Gleb and his mime-style choreography are finally gone.
Skai’s dance had too many lifts. I hate when Argentine Tango, Contemporary, Jazz and Salsa are turned into lift-fests, this is a dance competition not Cirque du Soleil!
Johnny’s Foxtrot had some nice moments in hold but out of hold his limbs were too wild and the rise and fall was too exaggerated and hectic. Carrie Ann’s comment on how the jerky rise and fall was a beautiful artistic choice for the Foxtrot made no sense, that’s what makes a Foxtrot NOT a Foxtrot.
AJ completely disregarded the Rumba figures and did whatever. Don’t call it a Rumba if you don’t attempt a single Rumba figure!
Nev was the best and Chrishell and Nelly were even worse than I thought they would be in the Cha-Cha relay.
Johnny barely did any Viennese Waltz, mostly dramatic wafting around Contemporary style, and he clearly made mistakes like missing Britt’s hand. Justina followed the rules and did a traditional Viennese Waltz but wasn’t rewarded.
AJ, Kaitlyn and Skai were the right rankings.
I’m scared that Nelly is going to get to the finals without hitting the bottom two and will knock out some good dancers, he has ALOT of fans dominating the Instagram and YouTube comment sections.
I think Skai might be in trouble next week facing off against Nelly in the dance-off, she’s now hit the bottom two and he hasn’t yet.
Chrishell was the right choice to go, let’s hope Gleb is cut loose for good next year.
This is a smudge off topic. But I was reading Lindsays article and she mentions wanting to be back next fall. Assuming Whitney is planning the same, would they get rid of Britt & Danielle? It seems like they were brought in to replace Lindsay & Whitney, but Britt & Danielle are doing sooo well with Nelly & Johnny. It would be a shame to lose any of the 4 women, but someone won’t make the cut. Any idea, or is it just too early to plan for next season?
@V.Est – Too early to tell (if there even is a next season…), but there is some wiggle room – I just read an article yesterday where Cheryl said she felt like it was time to hang up her dancing shoes, as she’s started getting tendonitis in her hips. Dance is unfortunately a young person’s sport – most professionals retire from competition by their mid-30s because they just can’t handle it anymore. I also know that Emma and Jenna have expressed interest in starting a family, and Peta has said more than once that she wants more kids. Given that the pandemic doesn’t appear to be ending in the foreseeable future, I wouldn’t be shocked if there was a second wave of a DWTS baby boom…which would free up some female pro slots.
Next week will be really interesting tho…. I’m excited!!!! I have no idea how much longer Nelly can hold out though…he’s got Jazz next week which should be alright, but he’s dancing it to “California Love” by 2pac which could end badly. Skai’s got a Janet Jackson inspired Paso, which I feel like could go either way.
Here’s the dance styles/songs for the dance off challenge:
Nelly vs. Skai:

Nev and Jenna are exempted from the Dance offs due to their really high scores. They get automatic 2s.
The winners of each dance off will be selected by the judges and earn 2 bonus points. I think that the Skai vs. Nelly dance off determines who goes home, and the AJ vs. Johnny Dance off determines who’s in the bottom with them.
Individual Dances/ Song choices are as follows:
KAITLYN AND ARTEM:
Theme: Britney Spears
Song: Toxic by Britney Spears
Dance Style: Argentine Tango
SKAI AND ALAN:
Theme: Janet Jackson
Song: If by Janet Jackson
Dance Style: Paso Doble
JUSTINA AND SASHA:

Dance Style: Rumba
AJ AND CHERYL:

Song: Somebody to Love By Queen
Dance Style: Viennese Waltz
NELLY AND DANIELLA:

NEV AND JENNA:

Also, for the .001 of people who care, Tyra is walking out to Jenny From The Block by Jennifer Lopez, and I’m assuming she’s also gonna be dressed as Jennifer Lopez.
It should be an interesting night!
( I know this whole comment was off topic but I didn’t know where else to put this)
Wow, you just really couldn’t wait for Heidi’s post, could you Mrclr?
Power rankings are up: https://www.puredwts.com/2020/11/04/puredwts-season-29-week-8-power-rankings/
Well I just sort of found them and decided to share them…lmao
@ V.Est, not just Britt and Daniella, but also Sharna, Artem, and Keo. Keo didn’t have a partner last season, and the other two weren’t there at all. Having 15 couples no doubt helped giving them all partners, but I wonder if we’d see that many couples next season, if there is one. Usually we have 12-13.
Worth noting that since Emma got her real estate license, and said something on her IG story yesterday about having pictures done for her first listing, so I don’t know if she’s signed with a real estate agency or not (she was asking on IG about potential companies). So maybe she’ll have moved onto that next season.
