DWTS 12 End-of-Season Award Winners – What Was the Biggest Controversy of the Season?

John: The “Winner Take All” Cha-Cha was messed up. Even I can see that and Chelsea was my favorite. Even if the producers of DWTS had it planned well before the season started, it was just really poor planning on their part. I hope we never see it again, but knowing them watch for some variation in a future season.

Heidi: Yeah, John, it was definitely messed up. Never before have they so blatantly changed the outcome of the show – in a way the viewers had NO CHANCE of over ruling or even competing with them. Stupid. But it is heartening to me that people other than myself were outraged at how they spoke to Ralph as well. That was uncalled for. However, while I think Mark was an ass much of the season, I don’t know if I would call it controversial as much as disappointing. He used to be such a sweet boy. 🙂

Some of write in comments on this one are interesting. A number of them mention Bruno and his inappropriate comments and/or behavior. Bruno’s definitely taken it too far. Everyone can tell he’s acting because he’s trying to be so over the top. Plus, the real horny sex addict Bruno is coming through and it’s not pretty. If you’ve ever seen the show live, watch Bruno. You can see how much of an act his judging really is. He goes from this hyper, over the top judge when the cameras are rolling and the crowd is cheering, but behind the scenes he’s quite the opposite. To be honest, I wouldn’t mind a replacement judge for Bruno and even Carrie Ann.

Courtney: Yeah, the “winner take all” cha-cha was definitely this season’s Bristol controversy…hell, I would even go so far as to say it was an even bigger deal that Bristol, because rather than it being Bristol fans vs. Non-Bristol fans, it was pretty much all fans vs. the powers that be.  I saw fans of ALL the remaining couples at the time outraged at how badly it manipulated the outcome of the show.  And I firmly believe that Ralph could have made it to the finale (and maybe even won) had that dance not occured.  But yeah, could it have been any more obvious from the judges’ comments that they reeeeeally didn’t want Ralph in the finale? Jeez-ass…at least try to cover your disdain with a thin veil of feigned sympathy.  Mark gets the dunce cap this season – the same won that Maks wore last season, and look at him now! Sweet as pie 🙂 There’s hope for Mark yet! Kendra was starting to look like she could be this season’s Bristol, the way she was sticking around…then she actually got kinda good, and it was hard to hate her.  Chris Brown managed to avoid assaulting anyone (or any furniture) and his performance was actually quite good, despite all the hullaballoo leading up to it; Wendy’s in love with Wendy…’nuff said.  And the mysterious “other” category – yep, I agree with many of you that Bruno is out of control and should probably be registered as a sex offender; Donnie (Burns, not Wahlberg or Osmond) made a boo-boo when he gave Romeo the wrong score, but to me it was more of an isolated blunder than a controversy; I think Maks’ “sex on a stick” monologue was less of a controversy and more of a hilarious outtake ;-); and yeah, Brooke pretty much sucks at her job, but that ain’t really a controversy either…it’s just an unfortunate consequence we deal with 😛 Interesting…looks like a few of you think ABC was “pimping” Kirstie…fair enough.  I guess I could see how someone could question her dance ability, but the great thing about DWTS is that it’s a popularity contest – you don’t have to be the best dancer in order to win.  Long story short: Bruno needs a constant cold shower, and the “winner take all” dance sucks.

Vogue: You guys said it. The “winner takes all Cha Cha” was the worst thing they’ve ever done. Do whatever you like, but, please don’t mess with the demographics of the show and take away our vote. Hey, our votes play a role in this show as much as the pros, celebrities, judges, hosts, make up team, etc….atelast I always thought so? Bruno took the cake this year too. I still like him and appreciate his presence. But, he needs disciplined. They should make it a rule to never go overboard demeaning a contestant. I’ll never forget that “diaper” comment and being outraged on it. Please producers if you read this, please don’t let either of these two incidents happen again. Find other ways to be controversial. I’ll take another Bristol Palin versus taking our votes away or Bruno overly demeaning contestants especially someone with a big of heart as Ralph Maccio.

Marianya: Am I part of the minority in that I actually can kind of understand why they had the “winner-take-all” ChaCha? I mean, Chelsea was a strong dancer, as was Sabrina Bryan and others, but let’s face it, without the ChaCha Chelsea would have been gone. Granted, the show could have done a better job in figuring out a way balance popular celebs with those that dance well, but there was a reason for it. However, Dancing with the Stars’ purpose is for the audience to choose which dancer they liked best… and one thing I noticed is that it ends up being the one that entertains as well as dances well, and that’s a balance. In having this “winner-take-all” dance TPTB are manipulating what should have been a fun show that the audience could invest themselves in rather than trying to alienate their audience.

As for most of the behavior from either the judges, or the celebs or the pro dances is more or less for the cameras, it just seems to be so over the top that it got tacky, campy or just outright annoying, it’s just becoming the norm… As for the verbal punching bag of Ralph, (almost) every season the judges have one verbal punching bag or another, and I guess Ralph just got the short end of the stick this time around. I don’t agree with it, I would much rather dip the judges in hot oil in an effort to cool their anger, but I’m too lazy to come up with that much oil.

Through all of that… as much as I deplore everything… get rid of the “Winner-take-all” dance of any kind, it shouldn’t exist. If they want to do something to keep better dancers in, then do something where the last four couples are on the floor and they have to dance through a handful of dances picked out of a hat, thirty seconds to a minute each, just like how dancers do in ballroom competitions. This way the celebs could actually prove that they’ve learned the basics and could dance through them AND we could compare the celebs side by side.

DWTS12 End of Season Award Winners – What Was Your Favorite PureDWTS Feature?

Over 400 of you came out & voted in our End-of-Season Awards – wow! Now it’s time to see just what you guys thought were the bests & worsts of this season.  First up, we have the results of the “Favorite PureDWTS Feature” award:

John: This question is absolutely fascinating for me since I started Pure DWTS just because I figured people would be looking for the DWTS music the way I saw people looking for the SYTYCD music. Turns out, people do look for it almost as much. With all that traffic, I figured I should provide something more than music to keep people sticking around. Thus was born the DWTS Power Rankings. Then, once Heidi started posting all the DWTS rumors (that should have been on this list too I guess, along with the DWTS polls we do), people started creating basically full blogs posts in the comments. That’s how Courtney, Vogue, Marianya, Amanda and a few other people started writing. Enough nostalgia, but it’s fun for me to think back how each of the above Pure DWTS features became a staple on the site.

Personally, I think that Who Wore It Better? is probably my favorite. Hard to argue with pictures of incredibly beautiful people (Luckily more women share outfits than men) side by side. Although, I think my favorite response actually came in the Other category where someone said, “All of them–I have become totally addicted to this site!!”

Courtney: Umm, wow.  You guys really dig the Cheesecake! Still amazes me that some silly “I’ve got stuff to bitch about and just need a place to do it” feature that I jokingly brought up to Heidi has become such a hit! For those of you going through summer withdrawl from lack of cake, we have some great news for you 🙂 Heidi & I have decided to do a “Cheesecake Retrospective”, where we’re going to do awards for shows of seasons past – our first “victim” is going to be season 5, week 5, and we hope to have it done within the next week or so.  If you guys would like to watch those particular episodes & play along with us, you can go to hulu.com and sign up for Hulu Plus – it’s only $7.99 per month, and it lets you watch seasons 5-11 of DWTS in their entirety in high-quality, amongst hundreds of other shows.  If that’s too steep for you, you can always try to hunt down clips from that week on YouTube – the episodes in question were the ones where Sabrina & Mark did their rumba and Mark & Kym did their famous “I Dream of Jeannie” samba, and where J. Lo did “Let’s Get Loud” on the results show.  Granted, a lot of our best material doesn’t come from the dances themselves, but the banter in between – but it still might give you some context, if you aren’t able to get Hulu Plus.  Hope you guys are as excited for this as I am! 😀 Anywho, for those of you in the “other” category who voted “none!”…I’m gonna assume you mean all our features are equally as awesome, so that none of them are your favorite…otherwise, I might have to call you a “hater” 😉

Heidi: It’s funny, I clearly remember you saying something about it on Twitter and I was like, why the hell not?? We may as well bitch in public and get rocks thrown at us. 🙂 I thrive on rocks, after all. 🙂 Yes, kids, I would guess you have about a week and a half to watch Season 5, Week 5 before we get this little summer act together. I highly recommend Hulu – if you have a TiVo or some other service (like an internet ready TV) you can even watch all those seasons on your HD TV. The quality is amazing. It’s kinda funny how many of our feature either came out of Twitter conversations, or post comments. The Dancing by the Numbers came about because some Derek fan or Maks fan…someone somewhere was in terror their favorite was going home because they only had a 1 point or so lead on the next person. I was like, “yo, the bottom person is a good __ points behind Derek/Maks/whoever, they aren’t going anywhere.” The response was obvious. “How do YOU know.” LOL. I never KNOW for sure…I just make educated guesses based on the rules of the scoring for the show.

Vogue:  Wow, this is just so cool! Everytime a new Poll goes up, I’m fascinated by the results and how quicky they come. When this Poll went up, there were over 300 votes within the first two days of it. 😯 I’ve always been a “Poll” person, so this is exciting. Congradulations to the Cheesecake winning. It’s giving me many hours of laughter as well with this year’s highlights and honorable mentions going to the cracks on Mike Catherwood and Lacey Schwimmer. Mike may have went out early, but, he prevailed as being one of the most funny contestants to ever be on the show and I hope producers will give him many more leading skifs in the future. Good skifs mean good cheesecake and possibly with chocolate topping. 🙂

As for the other features, like John and several of you who mentioned it in the other catagory and comments, I love them all so much too. It was hard for me to vote. In the end, I picked Heidi’s “Dancing By The Numbers” posts because I enjoy her psychic abilities going down every week as she gathers up the numbers and facts. FASCINATING!!

Anyway, good job All! Thanks for your support and all of your votes. You make PureDWTS what it is every day!! I’m so thankful to be a part of it all!! Here is to the new upcoming “Cheesecake Retrospective: Season 5, Week 5″! Be there or be square! 😀

Romeo Miller After Dancing On Dancing With The Stars & More

What’s Romeo Miller aka Lil Romeo been up too since dancing on Dancing With The Stars? Lots!! Black News recently caught up with Romeo to talk about his career and charity work for children. He disses on his Dad and has great messages for young kids again. He explains why he is so commited because of the personal struggles he’s went though. Below are some takes about his Dancing With The Stars journey. Be sure to read the link for more. Great interview with some great questions for him in it!!

KW: What interested you in doing Dancing with the Stars, especially after your father fared so poorly on the program during the 2nd season?
R: I wanted to do this show to show our future generation not to be afraid to fail. More and more kids are dropping out of high school and letting their dreams slip away because of failure. I felt that this show was the perfect opportunity for me to step outside of my comfort zone and take an unknown journey with my fans. I did Dancing with the Stars for the kids and my charity “URBANBORN” [UrbanBorn.org]. And FYI, my dad taught me all of my dance moves. [LOL]

KW: Did you have to get in shape for the show, and how challenging did you find learning the choreography?
R: Coming straight from playing Division 1 Basketball at USC, I was in terrific shape. But after doing the show, I was in even better shape! My vertical jump went from 39 inches to 42 inches, and my cardio and footwork was better then ever. Being a perfectionist, I made the choreography a lot tougher because I wanted every dance to be perfect. I’m a very fast learner, but becoming a ballroom dancer was definitely the most difficult task in my life yet. I definitely respect dancers a whole lot more now.

KW: Tell me a little about the charity you played for.
R:Â People may not know that I’ve gone to regular school through my whole career. Education has always been the rock in my life, and I think that every kid should have the proper education and that experience. School for me has been like the real world in a bubble. Everything about school and education has built me to be the man that I am today, and I wanted to share that with our future. With UrbanBorn.org I do a lot of “Read to Achieve” events and I go to a lot of underprivileged schools to express the importance of education. The kids are the future and I just want to let them know that somebody cares.

KW: What’s more fun, making movies or being a contestant on a reality show?
R: I would definitely have to say making movies! [Laughs some more] Although I loved the Dancing with the Stars journey, I must admit I have never been sooooo nervous in my life. When I’m making movies, I’m a lot more comfortable and relaxed. I feel reality is more fun for the viewers because you get to see the celebrity in a different light. But for me, learning a new dance in a few days to perform in front of 20 million people equals nervous breakdown. [Chuckles]

KW: Editor/Legist Patricia Turnier asks: What message do you think people will take away from Jumping the Broom and what did you learn from appearing on Dancing with the Stars?
R: Jumping the Broom teaches that anything is possible with true love. From Dancing with the Stars, people will learn that in order to succeed you’ll sometimes have to fail and  that, at the end of the day, all that matters is you doing your best. Life has no limits if you just try.

Pittsburgh Holds Rally For Dancing With The Stars 12 Champs Kym Johnson And Hines Ward

Today Hines and Kym brought the Mirror Ball Trophy to Pittsburgh so the city could celebrate their Dancing With The Stars Season 12 victory. Hundreds of fans showed up outside the City-County building at Noon in Pittsburgh while Kym and Hines gave a speech and danced. They had fun with the crowd by holding dance contests and more. Details below along with a fun message from Hines. Go to WTAE to see lots of cool video coverage. Lots of fun photos of the event HERE. These two are so cute and it’s good to see them together again.

Johnson danced and twirled a Terrible Towel on stage, and she helped her partner judge a quick dancing contest with three couples who had posted their own videos on YouTube earlier in the week.

All the finalists got to have their photos taken with Ward, Johnson and the Mirror Ball Trophy.

Ward and Johnson also whipped out their phones and shot some video of the crowd for themselves.

Ward thanked everyone who watched the show and voted for him and Johnson to win. He said they tried to use black and gold colors in their outfits as much as possible because “I just really, really wanted to put the city of Pittsburgh on the map and let everybody know that we are the city of champions.”

He also had a separate message — and some words of advice — for the show’s male viewers.

“I know it took a lot for you guys to watch ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ and I apologize if the wives make you take dancing lessons now,” Ward said. “You know what? But do it, because a happy woman is a happy household, so go out there and dance with them.”

And on a side note….check out the new purchase Hines bought for his Mom this past week! Isn’t this cool? He’s so good to her!!

DWTS Search Engine Round-Up – Week of June 24, 2011

Sorry this is kinda late, kids – I’ve been caught up with end-of-quarter stuff at work, and have been spending more time at the office than I have at home, I’m afraid.  But things ought to let up a bit after next week, so look forward to some more fun posts headed your way 😉 I gotta admit – it’s getting harder and harder to write this each week, because we’re currently in the summer doldrums between seasons where we’re not getting as many hits as we do when the show is in-season…and fewer hits usually means fewer unique terms getting searched.  So just a warning – this may become a bi-weekly feature in the future, if I can’t get enough good material for it.

Season 12 ratings

A quick search of “ratings” in the search bar will pull up all of the ratings posts, but here’s a link to the last one of the season.  Vogue posts them each week during the season, just so we can see how DWTS is stacking up against all the other shows.  They’re almost always in the top 5, but it is kinda cool to see how certain events on the show (say, “American Night” or the winner-take-all cha-cha) can affect the ratings for a particular week.

Kyle Petty recent photos

Erm, I’d say his website would probably be the best source for that.  I was stumped as to how some of you ended up here looking for pictures of Kyle, until I did a search and realized Shawn Johnson rode along with Kyle for a few laps at the Coca-Cola 600 back in May of ’09 after winning DWTS.  I wouldn’t mind Kyle doing the show – we haven’t had anyone from the racing world since Helio, and Kyle would be the first Nascar representative to do the show.  What do you guys think?

What were Maks & Cheryl paid for dancing at the Southwest Airlines 40th Anniversary party?

A bajillion, fafillion, sho0-bad-ooh-wopillion dollars. *pinky to corner of mouth like Dr. Evil* Honestly, I don’t know…none of us know, with the exception of Maks, Cheryl, the folks at Southwest accounts payable, and the IRS. I’m sure it was a pretty penny…most well-known ballroom pros can command several grand for private exhibition performance.  DWTS pros can probably command even more.  I’m guessing at least $15K each.

So You Think You Can Dance songs list 2011

Head on over to Pure SYTYCD for that…if you are still watching the show after the sham that was Iveta’s elimination the other night. It’s safe to say I’m pretty salty about it – it’s only week 2 and already the sole ballroom dancer this season is gone, along with the only true tapper.  I know a lot of us were talking about it on Twitter, and the topic came up of Iveta doing DWTS.  While I love Iveta, I don’t wanna see it happen – she’s just so damn good, and I almost feel like doing the show would be a waste of her talent.  Then again, maybe her talent would be better appreciated on DWTS than it was on SYTYCD.  I’m beginning to think they’re intimidated by ballroom dancers over there…

Mark Ballas gay

Hehe.  *shaking head* Sorry, couldn’t resist that one.  I’m guessing this musing sprung from the interview Mark did where he said he wouldn’t mind having a same-sex partnership, and the subsequent discussion we had about the implications of said statement.  If he is indeed gay, he’s doing a pretty damn good job of concealing it, considering the bevy of babes he’s been linked to since starting DWTS.  There was Sabrina…and Joanna Pacitti…and I think one of the Pussycat Dolls…and then there was Jeanine…and the Bristol rumors…and the Chelsie rumors…and then the other other Chelsea…which brings us to Pia, the current girl du jour.  If he is gay, he’s got a whole wardrobe of beards to chose from 🙂 Honestly, if nothing else, I think Mark’s stance on same-sex ballroom says less about his sexual orientation and more about his need for attention. You know that box on facebook that says “interested in” and you choose “men”, “women” or “both”? They’d need to add one for Mark – “attention of any sort”. 😀

Back in town jive song

I think you’re referring to “The Boys are Back in Town” by Thin Lizzy, the song that Mike & Lacey jived to.

Bristol Palin book

I’d personally rather use it as a doorstop than summer reading material, but there’s a few excerpts from it in a post Vogue did earlier this week.  Overall, it just sounds like a bitter, sensationalized attempt to prolong her 15 minutes of fame a bit more – she takes some cheap shots at her fellow contestants and her baby daddy, and seems hellbent on reminding us about the “hefty check” she got for doing DWTS.  I don’t think I’ve ever heard another celeb talk about the money they made on DWTS as much as Bristol.  And Bristol, honey, no matter how easy or irresistable it might be – don’t Hassle the Hoff.  You may just get yourself labeled persona non grata in Germany…and what would that do for your political aspirations? Tsk, tsk.

Derek Hough little toe

*facepalm* No comment…

HEY! If you haven’t voted in the End-of-Season Awards yet, do so quickly – voting ends soon!!!

Dancing With The Stars Season 12 Champion Hines Ward Named Goodwill Ambassador

Wow, what an honor! ABC is reporting our Season 12 Dancing With The Stars champion, Hines Ward, will serve as a Goodwill Ambassador for the Republic of Korea. For the next year, Hines will be helping to strengthen the ties between the Republic of Korea and the United States. I can’t think of more fitting person to do so, can you? Details below…

Ward was born in South Korea to a Korean mother and African-American father. During his acceptance speech, he credited his mother with his upbringing and says that it wasn’t always easy growing up as a mixed-race child in the United States. As a result of his mother’s hard work and his own, he became a superstar Wide Receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Super Bowl XL MVP. As if being a Super Bowl champion isn’t enough, Ward went on to win season 12 of “Dancing With the Stars” on ABC this past season.

He’s a true inspiration to all kids, but he hopes to influence the lives of mixed-race children all over the world with his Helping Hands Foundation. The foundation helps mixed-race children in South Korea help triumph over discrimination.

DWTS Search Engine Round-Up – Week of June 17, 2011

Oh you crazy kids and the things that get you searching 😉 Seriously – I still scratch my head every week when perusing the search terms for the site…I have to wonder how exactly Google brought you here to answer some of these quirky queries…but alas, I feel obligated to answer nonetheless.  I should start calling this feature “Ask Courtney”…

Ted Volynets

This has easily become the most searched term since the show wrapped – far more hits than any of the other troupe members.  Apparently Teddy’s got some of you ladies feenin’ 😉 Unfortunately, there’s not a whole lot of info about Ted out on the net…but here’s the best dossier I can give you.  He’s a senior at NYU (economics major), he’s likely 21 or 22, he’s Jewish, he & his sister both trained at Maks’ studio, he’s bff with Val, and has appeared as a Latin dance coach on MTV’s Made and has also appeared on Real Housewives of New JerseyHe also likes really small sweaters.  Ok, I may have been drawing my own conclusions on that last one 😉 Anywho – for a better glimpse into the life & times of Teddy V., you might check out his Facebook page or follow him on Twitter

Bachelor Ukraine naked video

Ok, I admit it: I was only kinda half-paying attention when some of the Maksettes were Twittering away about this last week.   I like Maks & all, but I’m just not passionate enough to sit through entire episodes of Bachelor Ukraine when they’re completely in Russian, and I simply don’t have the patience for Google translate.  So thankfully, the Maksettes on my Twitter timeline were able to fill me in when I was begging for info last night so I could relay the message to you guys 😀 Special thanks to Maria (@MariaNiwiwiN) and Marlene (@marleneb4) for sending me some links I was too lazy & uninformed to find myself 😉 I’m afraid the story isn’t as salacious as this search term would suggest – basically, Maks mooned the production crew a few times while filming, and it ended up on the gag reel they showed on the “After the Final Rose” post-show for Bachelor UK.  Here’s a still of it (I have to give a shoutout to Tracy – @FLLottoDreamer – for having the most comprehensive DWTS picture gallery I’ve ever seen on the net…she’s got season 12 AND Bachelor UK on lock!), as well as a YouTube video of the gag reel – a short montage of Maks’ great continental divide is visible at 3:25, but I recommend watching the whole video, as it’s got some priceless footage of Maks engaging in some tomfoolery we’re not used to seeing from him.  It’s funny in any language, trust me 🙂

Will there be a DWTS tour in 2011?

No official word yet, but it seems doubtful, considering there hasn’t been one since the last one wrapped in early 2009Derek mentioned last fall that there might be one in the winter of 2010…and clearly, that didn’t happen. I think it’s likely quite a bit harder for them to do a tour now than it was 3 years ago, with so many of the popular pros busy with movies, music, and other ventures in the off-season – plus the celebs themselves seem to be of a higher caliber now than the first few seasons of the show, so the possibility of getting someone as famous as Kirstie or Nicole to go out on tour is not very good…plus the cost would likely be exorbitant.  And honestly, I’m not sure that the tour was ever super-profitable in the first place…I went to the one in Indy back in 2009, had pretty good seats, and didn’t pay much for my tickets (in comparison to, say, the ridiculous amount of money I’m gonna plunk down to see NKOTBSB :-D)…and the arena was maybe a little more than half-full.  If you’ve got fairly famous celebs and nearly-equally famous pros to pay and you aren’t selling out arenas – I don’t know how this could be a profitable venture.  You know what they say…if it don’t make dolla$, it don’t make sense.

What color necktie does Pitbull wear in the “Give me Everything” video with Ne-Yo?

It appears to be red.  More specfically, a shade of cranberry.

Shantel Vansanten Cabo

The One Tree Hill actress was in Cabo San Lucas at the same time Louis, Jonathan, Anna, and Dmitry were there doing a wrap party and also a little vacationing.  Greg Louganis was also there, which I find interesting, considering he’s been trying to get on the show for a few seasons now…then again, maybe Cabo is just a popular spot for celebs to go & play, and his being there was pure happenstance. 🙂

Best ballroom dance for “Addicted to Love”

If you’re going with the original Robert Palmer version, I’d go with a cha-cha.  But if you’re using the Florence + the Machine version, which is much slower & sexier, I’d do a rumba to it.  It’s not ballroom, but SYTYCD season 7 contestant Adechike did a contemporary routine with all-star Kathryn to the latter version – quite sexy.  And here’s your little ballroom trivia tidbit for the day, kiddies: slow down any song with a cha-cha tempo and you can do a rumba to it.  Both are in 4/4 time with a break on the 2.  </smartypants> 🙂

Edyta bulge/Anna Trebunskaya cameltoe/Derek Hough topless/Zac Hanson shirtless/etc.

Ok, now I’m CONVINCED that you guys are just being cheeky and searching random, absurd stuff in order to get here 🙂 Not sure what type of bulge you’re referring to, since I’m fairly certain Edyta is a girl; and I’m not even going to entertain the Anna one, because I love her too much.  Once again, any requests for pix of various parts of Derek’s anatomy (pinky fingers, elbows, that hangy thing in the back of your throat, etc.) should be directed to Pure Derek Hough; and as for Zac…oh what the hell, I’ll humor you 🙂 After all, 13 years ago I was screeching over them along with all the other teenyboppers…glad I grew out of that phase.  Then again, “grab Donnie Wahlberg’s ass” is still on my bucket list…

PSSST! Have you gotten your votes in for our End-of-Season Awards yet? Time is running out…let us know what you think! 🙂

Hines Ward Thanks The Judges On Dancing With The Stars

Isn’t this cool? Hines Ward recently thanked the judges on Dancing with The Stars by giving them Crown Royal XR’s. Not only that, he had the bags personally engraved with “Thank you for all of your encouragement and constructive criticism. You made me a dancer. ~Hines” Hines is a huge fan of the whiskey and this isn’t the first time he have it as a gift. He gave the entire Steelers team a bottle of Crown Royal XR after the Steelers won Super Bowl XLIII against the Cardinals as well. Always a class act that one!! Jamie Lee Curtis Comes With A Hefty Price For Charity To Dance On Dancing With The Stars

Wow, wouldn’t it be cool if Dancing With The Stars could get Jamie Lee Curtis to dance? She wants a hefty price though which she’d give to charity. So, I doubt it will happen, do you? Also, check out her advise for the show in the last paragraph from E News below. I’d be all for it, would you?

“Never in a million years,” Curtis told us at Global Green’s 15th Annual Millennium Awards in Santa Monica. “I’ll tell you how I would do Dancing With the Stars. If they gave me a million dollars to give to charity…I would only do it if there was a big charity component. ”

But is she even a good dancer?

“Not like Jennifer Grey, I’m not,” laughed Curtis, who has admitted to previously turning down an offer to be on the show.

While we won’t be holding our breath for Curtis to make her Dancing debut anytime soon, she does have some interesting advice for the show’s ABC execs.

“They’ve just done 12 seasons, I think they should now take all the twelve winners and do a season,” she said. “They should do a Dancing All-Stars where they bring back everyone who won and make sure that they are not paired with any of the same people they were paired with originally.”

Heidi’s Note: Heh….since the show has been on 12 seasons and has been won only by Derek (3), Mark (2), Julianne (2), Cheryl (2), Kym (2) and Alec (1) there isn’t much choice for most of them to dance with someone they haven’t danced with before. 🙂 But other than that, there are a TON of reasons why it would be very hard, not the least of which is height, gender and personality. Other than that – great idea!! I like me and Derek’s idea better – a season with all dancers who have experience similar to Nicole, Mya, Sabrina, Mel B, etc.

Dancing with the Stars 2011 – For Your Consideration…

It’s almost that time of year, folks – Emmy Nominations. In case anyone was wondering if DWTS was serious about wanting an Emmy (any Emmy) at this point, you can rest assured they are serious enough to pay for ads in Hollywood Reporter. 🙂 How do I know? I’m a subscriber and check out this screen cap of an email I just got:

I think it’s WAY past time for the show and Tom Bergeron to win the damn thing already. And don’t get me started on Derek as groomsman never the groom. 🙂 Yes, blah blah blah, it’s wonderful to be nominated – but I want them all to WIN. 🙂

Anyway, we’ve been throwing lots of questions at you guys in this hiatus thus far so here’s another one: What dances from Seasons 11 and 12 do YOU think should be nominated for choreography?? Don’t forget the pro dances, since those stand a much better chance for a nomination than a celeb partner dance. Why do I say that? Well, it’s a choreography nomination, but I think we’d be kidding ourselves if we didn’t think that execution counts. Oh, and you CAN’T include the last….probably 2 weeks of Season 12. I haven’t looked at the rules for this season, but the DVD submission date last time eliminated the last 2 or 3 weeks of Season 10 from eligibility.

What do I think?? Well, if I recall, Louis and Maks did the lion’s share of the pro dances which increases their odds. UNFORTUNATELY, I think it would be very difficult to get a nomination for a dance done with a musical act, which knocks their odds right back down again. I also think it would be tough for Mark and Val to get one because more than half of their challenge thing was non-dancing. Derek? Well, he didn’t do the choreo for any pro dances and was only on Season 11 – that leaves his dances with Jennifer. Since he’s been nominated a good bit recently, I think the odds of, say, his Argentine Tango or second Paso with Jennifer might might be okay. But the odds are slimmer than usual simply because there’s only one season to choose from. Maks might have a shot with Brandy, Mark might have a shot with Chelsea (and really, wasn’t that the whole entire point of the Wizard Waltz?)…can YOU think of any other dances that are really, truly Emmy-worthy?? Be honest now. What you also have to consider is “So You Think You Can Dance” – that show, along with some of the award shows, tends to take the lion’s share of the nominations and more often than not, the win. Why? Well, all the dancers are trained and it’s ALL dancing – no musical acts with dance accompanying. Plus, there are no rules on SYTYCD – that makes a HUGE difference when it comes to choreography. For that reason, odds are that DWTS will be limited to ONE nomination for choreo. Who will it be? Or will they be shut out entirely?? What do you think??

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)
