DWTS10 Week 4 Power Rankings

Tonight’s show has made me very, very crabby – odds are because I feel like I’m living in a parallel universe.  The people who usually stink did decently well, while the people who usually do decently well kinda stunk (except maybe Evan, but he’s so friggin’ safe it doesn’t really matter); the costumes sucked; the music sucked; and this two-score system sucked.  Let’s not even talk about the fact that Kim from The Real Housewives of Atlanta was sitting in the audience. I’m left with an overall feeling of SUCK. Not a happy camper…but let’s get on with it, I guess…

1.)    Evan & Anna – I actually wasn’t wowed by this tango – the choreo felt rather boring, and I am still getting a cold feeling from Evan.  He is improving each week, yes; but I am still not getting enough from him performance-wise.  Thought the choice of song was a bit ironic; wasn’t wild about the costumes, either.  But he didn’t foul up, and he got the highest scores of the night – and like Heidi, I am still fairly certain he is getting the biggest piece of the voting pie.  I don’t think they’ll get the encore for a second week in a row (I’ve got a feeling it’s going to be either Pam or Chad), but I sincerely doubt they’re even remotely close to being in danger…so you can rest your Twitter finger this week, Evan 😉

2.)    Pam & Damian – Ok, I’m putting it out there: these two are my faves this season.  I was so proud of Pam this week (and not just because she was wearing a shirt from Express that I also happen to own 😉 ) – she managed to wow the judges without being over-the-top sexy, and even managed pull out a sort of subtle vulnerability.  Granted, her rumba may not have been as difficult as Nicole’s, and her hair is still obscuring her face; but I found myself enjoying it the most out of all the rumbas because it felt sincere.  And while I hated most of the costumes tonight, I would have to say Pam’s is the one I would be most likely to don myself – she looked very pretty. Add to that the magical powers of the money spot (for the second time this season…hmmmm), and I’d say these two are pretty safe this week – and will hopefully get the encore 😉

3.)    Nicole & Derek – Oh dear Heidi, I’m afraid your suspicions about Nicole “throwing cold water” all over that rumba weren’t unwarranted – something was seriously wrong with homegirl tonight.  Perhaps nervous about giving everyone the “wrong idea”? Whatever it was, it managed to make what could have been a really good rumba just ok.  She seemed really hesitant with her hip action and almost uncomfortable looking Derek in the eye; but I was really impressed by her demonstrations of flexibility and that managed to redeem her a bit for me.  Definitely felt a lot more heat from Derek than from her on this one – but are we really that surprised? 😉 I think they’ll be safe this week, but hopefully they’ll get something really up-tempo (and not the least bit intimate) next week to help them climb back up the leaderboard.

4.)    Chad & Cheryl – Ugh.  I wanted to hate this rumba soooo much.  And while I still think it was really, really tacky – the feathers, the man-handling, all that god-awful fabric – Chad did improve, and these two are still riding high on the showmance gravy train.  I saw more coverage of this odd couple this week than any other couple on the show, and they’re still playing awfully coy about the whole thing, throwing out the  “are we or aren’t we?” card whenever they can.  Blech.  These two aren’t going home this week…thanks again Bengals fans, and thanks to you showmance fans too…now excuse me while I barf.

5.)    Jake & Chelsie – Remember last season when Aaron & Karina danced a quickstep with Muppets? Well, from the way Jake was cheesing during this tango, I felt like maybe the Muppets had come back for another cameo this season.  Cracked me UP.  In all honesty, though, I actually thought he did pretty damn good (even better than Erin) – up until the part where he tripped.  TWICE.  Oy.  But he did get a pretty good song, which seemed to help, and his fans will rally this week after last week’s scare.  Enjoy your free pass this week, Jakey.

6.)    Erin & Maks – Big disappointment this week.  Erin was the most awkward I’ve seen her all season – worse even than her cha-cha on the first night.  She’s still really struggling with her frame, and tonight’s “sexy times” with Maks didn’t feel steamy & alluring like they did during last week’s waltz – they just felt fake & forced.  Kind of surprising coming off the tails of their lovey-dovey spread in People last week.  I thought Maks did a good job of putting a lot of “meaty” tango content into the routine, but all-in-all, it all just kinda fell flat for me.  Even the costume – I loathe gowns with built-in gloves.  No help from running order either – they got stuck in the crap spot. I’m gonna say these two are PROBABLY okay this week, based on a few residual sympathy votes from Erin’s continued death threats (*yawn*) and of course, the magazine attention – but I’m crossing my fingers that they give Erin another Latin dance next week (samba, perhaps?) that she can use to bounce back.

7.)    Niecy & Louis – Niecy, Niecy, Niecy.  I am just always left wanting a little bit more from your performances.  Yet another night where you had such simple choreography, yet still managed to get lost in the emotion of the dance.  Please, for your sake & mine, let’s hope you get a fun, flirty dance next week where you don’t have to show any sort of deep-seated emotion.  I mean, you’re not bad, but you’re not great, either – if you don’t pick up the pace, you may take Chad’s place as the most disappointing cast member this season for me.  I think there’s a slight chance these two could be in danger, but I’m gonna cross my fingers that the bottom two this week are correct…

8.)    Kate & Tony – What better way for you to start the lead-in package than whining & complaining some more, Kate? I swear, I see a little more of Tony die each time I see him interacting with this infernal woman.  While Kate wasn’t completely unbearable to watch this week (I will admit, she did move around just a tiny bit more in the tango than in the paso), she still was a brick wall emotionally, and looked as though she would rather be anywhere but back on the dance floor again.  Hate to say it, Kate, but even Adam Lambert couldn’t inject any feeling into that tango.  I still want to see her go home – but everytime I predict that she does, she sticks around another week.  So, in a desperate act of reverse psychology, I’m going to predict that you DON’T go home, hoping that the opposite in fact occurs.  See? Perfect logic at work there 😉

9.)    Aiden & Edyta – Who did these two piss off in order to get the crappiest rumba song of the night? It certainly didn’t do them any favors, as Aiden still needs all the help he can get out there on the floor – he’s still the most awkward mover this season, and let’s face it – he was still just a prop out there, with Edyta gyrating around him.  Now don’t get me wrong, I really like the guy, and there are certain nameless people I would much rather see go home than him.  But I don’t think even the power of All My Children is going to save him this week after that non-event of a rumba.  Then again, he (hopefully) might just end up in danger, only to have his fans rally next week and keep him around a bit longer.  Here’s to believing in reverse psychology – get thee to a nunnery, Kate!

Ugh.  I need to go lay down now, after such a crummy & disappointing night of dancing.  Are you guys equally as disappointed, or do I just need a nightcap? 😉 HOLLER!

DWTS Season 10, Week 3 – Media, Part III

Entertainment Tonight from April 7, 2010 – Jon sues for custody, Kate takes the high road (sorta). Also, Buzz’s elimination. Erin and Maks comment on the next dance. Reba’s song for Kate. Las Vegas odds – Hmmm….I may have to put some money on Evan. Also a bit with Chad, and we hear from Kathy Ireland on her favorite (Stepford Wife?).

Entertainment Tonight from April 8, 2010 – Erin’s very first statement could also be said for Nicole. Hmmmm….thanks for sharing, Erin. 🙂

Extra from April 6, 2010 – Erin’s death threats. Chad and Cheryl and Erin and Maks on romance crap. Kate’s Easter, Buzz’s rehearsal and Pam’s good luck charm (Charo). Aiden has his 33rd birthday (lucky guy finally gets some press).

DWTS Season 10, Week 4 – Who’s Dancing What?

Note to self – check last weeks dances….

Oy veh. The Rumba and the Tango. I have a feeling I might need eyeball bleach for Kate’s dance, regardless. Here’s what I think each couple is dancing:

Jake and Chelsie – Tango: Hmmm…Jake has surprised me thus far, but a Tango?? He might be a clomper.

Nicole and Derek – Rumba: Hee. I think the rumba is what happens on DWTS when you insist to everyone who will listen that you are not hooking up with your partner and that you love your boyfriend. 🙂 Girl, I believe you (until you say it another 10 times or so, anyway). But I am concerned that you might try to throw cold water on a Derek Hough rumba – and that would be a damn shame.

Evan and Anna – Tango: Of course he will be fabulous and will probably get his first ten of the season. Perfection is boring. Fight with Anna or something, wouldja?

Chad and Cheryl – Rumba: I’ve given up on Chad, actually. I had such high hopes for him and, while he improved last week, he’s still way more Maurice Greene than he is Emmett Smith. Maybe he will be the surprise of the week? Can he dance the dance as well as he talks the talk?

Niecy and Louie – Rumba: Niecy was disappointed she got another slow dance and I agree with her. I didn’t like it when they gave Joanna four latin dances in a row and I don’t like how Niecy’s getting all the slower dances in a row. But she’ll do well with the Rumba, regardless.

Aiden and Edyta – Rumba: Sabotaging him again, do you all think? The man likely doesn’t have hips, so they give him the rumba instead of a Tango where he might have a chance??

Erin and Maks – Tango: Surprise!! I thought for sure they’d give her and Maks a Rumba to try to take advantage of their non-mance. But maybe that’s what Erin and Maks wanted, so they gave it to Nicole, who likely didn’t. 🙂 I feel very “conspiracy theorist” today…

Pamela and Damian – Rumba: Get yer fire extinguishers ready folks.  Although I expect this to be smokin’ hot, I wonder if this won’t work against her? People may eventually get tired of the sexpot routine.

Kate and Tony – Tango: I’m not sure about Kate and Tony, but I’m thinking it has to be a tango, and from some rehearsal footage it looks like a Tango.  Doesn’t matter. Sure to be a disaster either way and Kate will stay another week.

So, what will affect some of the couples more strongly than others? Why the two sets of scores, of course. Are they desperate to get rid of Kate and save someone who might be in jeopardy? Someone we don’t actually KNOW is in jeopardy? Like…Nicole or Evan?? Nah, I still think Evan is going to win. Maybe they just want to get rid of Kate, and having a double low score (performance AND technique) might just be the way to go about it. Nicole, Evan, Erin all get double high scores, Pam, Niecy, Chad and Jake get a split – maybe Aiden too – and Kate gets a double low score. Hmmm…I may have to see if I can guess at the judges scoring too and see just how many votes Kate would have to get to stick around. If this is their plan and Kate still stays? We’re all screwed. 🙂

Thoughts About Week 3 of DWTS Season 10

Well, if you haven’t done so already, go and read Heidi and Courtney’s DWTS prediction scorecard. Lots of good discussion to get your heart racing.

I will say that I agree that Jake has turned off a lot of people. My wife saw it from about the second episode of The Bachelor. I realized it once Jake said that Chelsie, yes I said little sweet Chelsie, was disrespecting him. Can you imagine if Jake had gotten Karina. She would have literally eaten him alive, chewed him up and then spit him out.

I actually don’t hate Kate as much as everyone else does. Ok, I do hate her dancing. It’s pretty horrible. However, she doesn’t bother me like everyone else. Granted I didn’t see any full episodes of Kate Plus 8 and I can’t imagine her life now with the Papparazi following her everywhere. How can a person stay sane with those crazy people and every entertainment show following her. Sure, she brought a lot of it on herself, but I have a little sympathy for her. Plus, she’s pretty hot since being on DWTS, just as long as she’s not dancing.

In other notes…
I hope that Chelsie never goes brunette again. Give me back my blonde beauty!!

What about Chelsie and Derek hooking it up? Why haven’t there been more rumors. I’m starting the rumor and see where it goes. After watching Chelsie’s dance tonight, she might finally be woman enough for Derek to consider.

@GamblingLaker mentioned on Twitter that “Derek INTENTIONALLY wanted a non-10 choreo.” I agree completely. I think that Derek didn’t want Nicole to peak too early. If you peak too early the judges need a story to tell and will find a way to score you lower. Better that Derek keep Nicole’s scores lower early on when she was more than safe against the other contestants and then save the higher scores for later in the show when she might need them more. Conspiracy theory? Maybe, but let’s not think that Derek didn’t know what he was doing when he did a lift and broke hold.

Chad Ochocinco has been my biggest disappointment this season. His dancing has been horrible. His posture kills me. How Cheryl can’t see and somehow fix that is crazy. Maybe his height and hers is the problem. I thought he’d be smooth on the floor and he has it in him, but up until now he’s killing me with how bad he’s dancing.

Ok, I lied. Ashly dancing with Buzz has been the most disappointing part of the season. That’s not saying anything about Buzz either. I just wish that I could really see what Ashly has in her. If she’s not back next season I’ll be extra mad at DWTS. Just not right.

I read that Heidi is missing Lacey Schwimmer. She was a big disappointment for me in the pro dances. Not sure why since I actually did like her more when she was on the show. My wife also commented that Lacey had put on some pounds it seemed. I can’t say that, but women can. Although, she’s right. I guess she’s missing the 6 hours a day of dancing (working out) that the show offered. I can’t imagine what a body is thinking when you go from dancing that much and then not dancing that much.

I’ve actually liked Anna Trebunskaya twice this season. That’s 2 more times than I’d liked her and her partner in past seasons. Not sure what’s different, but she’s done some great routines and really gotten into them.

Did anyone else fall in love with Cowgirls tonight after seeing Snejana Petrova and Edyta Śliwińska? Reba’s first song was horrible, but Snejana and Edyta saved it for me. It’s amazing what beautiful girls dancing can do to ANY song. (I’m sure you girls can insert men for this comment)

There’s something about Damian that just bugs. Is he made of plastic?

Ok, there’s certainly more, but we’ll save it for another week. What think thee?

Dancing with the Stars Season 10, Week 3 Results Show – Video Recap

I’m sure I’ll find more of these later (like, say, tomorrow), but here are a few bits of the show you might want to see again.

Evan and Anna’s Encore Dance

Mark, Derek and Chelsie – the Incredible Paso Doble. May I go on?? The opening guitar by Derek was a beautiful touch, then the…a capella??…bit of dancing with only the snapping noise. Beautiful, intense, passionate – and I noticed that even after a commercial break, Derek and Chelsie were still recovering from that dance. Fantastic.

Reba McIntyre, with Val and Maks Chermkovskiy, Edyta Slwinska and Snejana Petrova

Reba with Lacey Schwimmer and Dmitry Chaplin

DWTS Season 10 Week 3 – The Score Card

Spoilers!!!!! Buzz Aldrin, the old sweetheart, leaves the competition.

Well, mea culpa on several fronts. Clearly Courtney and I are severely underestimating Aiden’s appeal. Well, I should say, I understand TOTALLY his appeal – he’s gorgeous and he has a hot accent. But I just think he’s getting lost in a bunch of characters. Apparently not that lost just yet. Which I’m actually happy about because he’s better than Buzz and Kate, for sure. He might even be better than Chad!!

My other mea culpa was for bitching about Derek not having the chance to showcase the fact that he plays at least three instruments very, very well. Yay. He played guitar and danced with Chelsie in what will likely be, for me, the highlight pro dance of the season. Fantastic.

Another – I missed Lacey and didn’t realize until I saw her dance again. Sorry Lacey. Dmitry – still does nothing for me. Sorry Dmitry. If I’m going to go big and dark and brooding, I’m going Maks. 😉

Len, seriously? You would have scored Erin and Maks *lower*? Are you on crack?? Well, at least he’s being a jerk to most everyone.

Anyway, I think I called it half right, and Courtney got her bottom person correct. I said either Aiden or Buzz. That said, we were both hoping and privately saying Kate should/would go. We are now drinking. Heavily. WTF??? Who is voting for this woman – or as I told Courtney, why are the haters not voting for other people??!! Geez. 10.5 million people watched Jon and Kate Plus 8 at it’s heyday – if you haters want her gone, ya best start voting for Jake, Pam or Aiden. Otherwise, we all have to quit complaining. Or you all do – I vote like crazy. 🙂 But as Courtney said, crazy Americans eliminated a true American hero in favor of a talentless woman with no REAL claim to fame. Why am I not surprised??

ANOTHER surprise – Jake in the bottom two. Jake, I’m not a huge fan but I do like you and think you have potential. It sucks. But rest assured your fans will kick butt and take names next week and Pam will fall to the bottom two again.

Courtney’s Power Ranking and my guesses by the numbers – click the links. In summary:

Heidi: Guessed either Aiden or Buzz. Was actually hoping for Kate, and very sad to see Buzz go. Was a tad surprised by Jake. Question: am I overestimating The Bachelor’s (or Jake’s) appeal? Or did his fans get cocky and think he is the second coming of Melissa Rycroft?

Courtney: Had Buzz as the bottom, but was hoping for Kate.

Heidi says: Jake is safe next week but may trade off with Pam, as viewers continue to save the lesser dancers.

Courtney? What say you?

Courtney says: Awwww Heidi, you flatter me – but I was actually 0 for 2 this week. I had Kate & Aiden as the bottom 2, with Buzz narrowly escaping the red zone. And I am LIVID that Kate lives to dance another week! Indeed, I find it a crying shame that America eliminated a prominent figure in from our country’s history in favor of a woman who has been accused of being an “absentee mother” (anyone else catch The Insider tonight?) to her 8 children and an overall fame-hungry, bitter divorcee? I honestly thought Buzz’s charm would carry him through at least one more week. And I’m clearly underestimating Aiden (After seeing Cameron Mathison there supporting him, I wonder if those same people that rallied around Cam are now also tuning in for Aiden – those two seem to have a bromance) and overestimating Jake’s appeal (perhaps the rest of the country is beginning to think he’s whiney just like I do!). Not that I’m complaining – I think Aiden is a doll up to Jake, and I’m just relieved that Pam managed to avoid the red zone this week (she’s definitely in the top half of the pack for me). Grrrr…now I’m seriously beginning to doubt myself. Gonna go stick some more pins in my Kate voodoo doll, and go construct a generic one for all of the dingbats that are voting for her!

Dancing with the Stars Season 10, Week 3 – By the Numbers

Well, Courtney got a few things off her chest, now it’s MY turn. 🙂

First, let me say that I really like ALL of the couples, even Kate to a certain extent. Several of the couples I even LOVE – best season so far. So, I say the following with love, not hate.

Would you all shut the hell up? Please? And I mean in the media and on twitter – maybe I get too much of both, but still. You guys are making my job here annoying, unnecessarily. You’re all good people (again, possibly except Kate) – there is no need for storyboarding, creating drama, or flapping your yaps at every single thing. Maybe I’m cynical, but it all strikes me as vote grabbing. And I’m talking about ALL of you – every last one. Some examples…

Kate? We KNOW you have 8 children. How can we not know that? It’s the only reason you’re famous – and if you REALLY didn’t like the paparazzi perhaps you should have stayed home in PA. Evan? Dude, you are getting the lion share of votes already, do you need to comment over and over about your poor, broken toes AND spam for votes (although there was marked improvement last night)? Seriously? You had a couple in the media calling you heroic. Please. Ballas danced on a torn up knee last week – that is what you DO. Crazy? Definitely. But the only hero on the show is Buzz. Nicole? We get that you have a boyfriend and that there is no way you’re involved with Derek. But you’re accomplishing TWO things here; one, you’re protesting SO much that it makes me wonder things you don’t want me to wonder about, and; two…let people have their fantasies!! That’s part of the dance – it’s supposed to be romantic and you’re taking it too far in the other direction. It’s certainly working for Erin and Maks – just look at the comments EVERYWHERE. People buy the romantic crap. I love ya, and you’re my favorite, but cut it out. And slap your partner upside the head while you’re at it – not for his choreography, that’s always stellar in my book. But for not stopping you from protesting too much – he KNOWS what it takes to win this show and he’s letting you write the book. Stop it. That brings me to Erin – girl, I love you, and I sympathize with what you’ve gone through. You’re very brave AND you have not played on anyone’s sympathies intentionally. You are awesome. But if you are NOT dating Maks by the time this is all over, I’m going to feel I was manipulated. I will feel like you guys used your chemistry for votes (similar to what Shannon and Derek were castigated for in Season 6). Jake? Shut up. I hate when people say “you’re so disrespectful” – dude, people don’t automatically get respect, it has to be earned. As much as I enjoyed your dance last night, you ain’t there – your stint on the Bachelor also didn’t help. Louis and Niecy? Both of you were all over twitter with how emotional your dance was. You were so all over it that the dance itself was a letdown once it happened. Careful with the broadcasting. Manage expectations, don’t set them. See Derek, Maks and a couple other pros for help in this area. Anyway…

The MATH.
Here are the Judges Scores:

Dancer/Score
Evan/26
Nicole/23
Erin/23
Jake/21
Niecy/21
Pam/21
Chad/20
Aiden/20
Kate/15
Buzz/13
Total Judges Points Awarded = 203

As Courtney said, the 7 paddle is highly over rated. And Len, you seriously score Nicole only a point higher than what you gave Kate? That’s taking bunched panties to a new high (or is that low?). But Derek and Nicole knew they were taking a risk – at least they were honest about it, unlike some in the past. They took their spanking well. 🙂 Anyway – anyone looking at these scores knows that the fans of the different dancers better have voted like hell last night because we got lots of bunching. Nicole dropping to a tie for 2nd place doesn’t accomplish much, as you’ll see below. The only question is, has Aiden gotten enough distance from Kate and Buzz to be safe?

Dividing the individual scores by the total points awarded gives you the following percentages:

Dancer/Percentage of Total
Evan/12.81
Nicole/11.33
Erin/11.33
Jake/10.34
Niecy/10.34
Pam/10.34
Chad/9.85
Aiden/9.85
Kate/7.39
Buzz/6.40

Leaving Kate and Buzz out of it for a second, there are only three points between first and 8th place. Crazy. The question is, again, do Kate and Buzz have the fans to catapult them over someone in that bunch? Very hard to say. This season is rife with characters and people with their own, bizarre fanbases. I’m tempted to think that Kate has a bigger fanbase than Nicole – the question will be if the people who DON’T like Kate will vote for someone else. That’s what will count. You see all these people hating on Kate, but if they don’t vote for someone else, then she stays.

Buzz? Well, based on this, you can see that Buzz is now 3.45 points behind Aiden. Will it matter? Probably not. Remember, the percentage of total points awarded is added to the percentage of total votes cast to determine the dancers rank. Buzz needs to catch either Aiden or Kate to stay in the game. Do you think he can do it? I STILL think possibly so.

Here’s my current GUESS at how I think the voting might go, in tens of thousands (or thousands, who knows?):

Dancer/Votes (in thousands)
Evan/30 – Far and away the ringer of the season based on fanbase and ability, I don’t see this changing unless he breaks a leg or Anna choreographs a total crap freestyle. I have to say that I thought his Quickstep started off a tad sloppy.

Nicole/20 – Danced fantastically well, although a tad off from last week, and I think she’ll hold her own in voting thanks to passionate fanbases and Len being a jerk. Why yes, that is reverse psychology.

Erin/25 – I bumped Erin up because people will vote for chemistry every time. Throw in the sympathy votes for the crap she’s had to deal with and she may rival Evan for votes (for this week, anyway).

Jake/20 – I liked this dance. Also holding his own, and unless I severely overestimate the power of the Bachelor (and his very canny ability to be constantly photographed with Vienna and healing that “issue”) he should be fine for a while. It doesn’t hurt that he doesn’t suck as a dancer. The “aw shucks” thing has got to get old after a while, though. I’m not sure if his tantrum last night hurts or helps him.

Niecy/20 – Tough call here. I agreed with Carrie Ann’s comments, but I think she will be safe because she dances well and a lot of people liked and agree with her and Louis’ expressions of their feelings last night. Problem is, there are still a lot of…conservative…people in the world who won’t appreciate it at all.

Pam/20 – I have her up with the rest of the 20-group because I think her fans probably voted like maniacs last night due to her being in the bottom two last week. She also pulled off a decent Paso, but she was too soft, not crisp enough.

Chad/20 – Judges on crack – I didn’t think this Paso was good at all, but I like Chad as a character a good bit and it was a great improvement from last week. And I imagine he’s right up there with the rest in votes. Bengals fans indeed.

Aiden/15 – Poor Aiden. Not only do you suffer from being a plain old nice guy in a room full of crazy characters, you also were too stiff with bad feet. On the bright side, the singer crapped up the song so badly your footwork may have gone unnoticed. Still not sure that’s a good thing.

Kate/20 – Puh-lease. Yes I know there are crazy people voting for her. Slight improvement from last week but still awful.

Buzz/20 – I didn’t pick on Buzz above, and I feel bad to pick on him now. Because he’s 80! And an Astronaut!! :::sigh::: My enthusiasm for those two things is waning rapidly and the patriotic stuff is now officially too much.

Anyway, if you do the same math as I did above for the Judges points – add up the total and then divide into each individual score to get a percentage – then add the two percentages together, you get the total following points.

Evan/27.09
Erin/23.23
Nicole/20.85
Jake/19.87
Niecy/19.87
Pam/19.87
Chad/19.38
Aiden/17.00
Kate/16.91
Buzz/15.93

Note: These are my best guesses of the voting range of the dancers – no clue as to the accuracy. By my math, Buzz goes home with the lowest total. I have Aiden as the low vote getter, but not so low (by 5 points) that Buzz can overtake him. IF all others are correct, but I have slightly over estimated Aiden’s votes – if he gets a 12 instead of a 15 in votes – he goes home. If I have underestimated any of the other dancers votes except Aiden and Buzz, Buzz goes home. This is a hard game, but playing with the voting percentages 6 ways to Sunday, either Buzz or Aiden go home. I’m leaning toward Aiden. If someone other than Buzz, Aiden or Kate go home, it won’t be that shocking, simply because there is so little margin for error.

But, if something wacky happens and someone else goes home, I’m going to have to seriously re-evaluate my perception of fanbases. I have this strange feeling that only Evan and Erin are truly safe. For now.

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

DWTS10 Week 3 Power Rankings

Before I commence with the rankings, a few overall thoughts…

 The 7 paddle is overrated.

Story week was a GREAT idea.

 The judges are sanctimonious bigots.

Alright, I’ve said my piece.  Now on with it!

1.)    Evan & Anna – Another adorable & entertaining number, and I am really enjoying seeing Evan come out of his shell with each dance.  But I still feel like he gets a bit too much into his own headspace out there (especially towards the middle of the dance), and as a result the performance value goes down a bit…however, he does open up a bit more each week.  And he and Anna are, quite possible, the most harmonious & drama-free couple out there – they just seem so zen & agreeable during their practice sessions, likely as a result of Evan’s strength under pressure.  They did dance in the crap spot (first), but the sympathy votes from Evan’s broken toes will likely counteract any votes they may have lost from it (as if Evan wasn’t getting the bulk of the votes, anyway).  I only give them the edge over Nicole & Derek this week due to the latter’s drama with the judges, but I still think that Nicole is both the stronger technician and entertainer.

2.)    Nicole & Derek – Never have I ever had the desire to put my foot through my flat screen more than I did when these two got their critique.  Carrie-Ann’s argument about breaking hold? Not a very intelligent one, since almost everyone broke hold at least once in their routines tonight.  The “lift”? Do the rules say anything about the guy getting lifted? 😉 Len saying there was “no real quickstep”? I don’t know what dance you were watching, geezer, but I saw PLENTY of quarter turns, forward locks, chasse reverse turns, and runs.  Echoing Heidi’s sentiments last week – I am astounded at how in sync these two are.  And with so much energy! Just…WOW.  By far the most entertaining and energetic of the night, and they had the boon of dancing in the money spot (last). Judges’ comments & low scores aside, I think fans will rally behind these two as a sort of rebellion…and I can’t help but wonder if the judges are just trying to make the playing field seem a bit more level (do they really need to? Evan is keeping up quite nicely…) but they will stay, and I sure hope the judges’ feet taste good in their mouths. Barbeque sauce, anyone?

3.)    Erin & Maks – Ok, something is DEFINITELY going on between these two, whether they want to admit it or not.  The sexual tension in the beginning of their waltz was palpable (I love that word).  And despite the fact that I didn’t really understand the “story” behind this one (“I love you, but I like to wear blindfolds”? Maybe?), it was nonetheless very artistic & well-executed.  Smooth, crisp, and clean.  However, I’m going to agree with Len just a teensy bit – it did seem to take an agonizingly long time to get the blindfold on, and I kind of wished they had thought of a quicker or more creative way to put it on.  Definitely going to stick around another week, not only due to sympathy for Erin’s “courageous” decision to dance despite death threats (If I recall, this isn’t the first time this has happened on the show, and security at that place is tighter than the rush hour subway in Brooklyn) but also a possible burgeoning showmance…hmmmm…

4.)    Pam & Damian – Did anyone else think Pam looked absolutely stunning this week? I loved her dress, I loved her makeup, and I loved her hair – even though I’m getting a bit tired of it flopping in her face and detracting from her performance. She actually managed to hold her on in the paso, despite looking a bit unsure of herself at times (I’m actually gonna blame the hair in the face for that one), and even managed to throw in just a smattering of that sex kitten she’s becoming known for.  Throwing in the “I’m against animal cruelty” card was probably a wise move as well.  But I’m still a little concerned – her frame is still wonky, the sexpot act is beginning to lose its luster (I would love to see a bit more vulnerability from her), and I feel like we still know little to nothing about Damian – he almost seems like he’s playing an extra to some of the other pro’s leading roles.  These two ought to be ok this week due to Pam fans rallying from last week’s scare, but I’m not so sure they’re going to last a whole lot longer…

5.)    Jake & Chelsie – While Jake is a better dancer than I thought he’d be (ugh, it hurt to say that), he still seems whiney to me – and I don’t do whiney.  After last week’s tear-and-tantrum fest, I’m kind of over the couples fighting…so this just annoyed me.  The theme was cute, yes, and Chelsie did manage to creatively incorporate some Egyptian moves – but they seemed to have a lot of cheesy props, and Jake still seems squatty to me.  I could see Team Vienna keeping these two around for another week or two, but right now they’re just in the middle of the pack for me…

6.)    Niecy & Louis – I really wanted to like this waltz, because I adore these two.  But I feel like they got so bogged down by the emotion of the story that it distracted their dancing.  I give them props for not relying on props (pun intended, hehe), but they did seem to stumble a bit and it all seemed a bit too slow & easy.  I’m a little worried about Louis’ comment regarding gay marriage as well – now before anyone gets up in arms, I am not criticizing his opinion in any way; he is entitled to it and I respect that totally.  But politics are a slippery slope, and just the fact that he brought it up may alienate some of the more conservative viewing audience (the same ones that might be shunning Pam).  I’m gonna put some faith in humanity and say that these two will be safe this week, because I think they’re going to have a lot to offer in the coming weeks…

7.)    Chad & Cheryl – Ok Chad, you stepped your game up this week, I’ll give you that.  You emoted a lot better than last week, and seemed to put just the teensiest bit more “oomph” into your steps.  But those steps were still rather deliberate & clumsy, and this routine wasn’t all that difficult – it was an awful lot of open work – and I’m still bothered by what seems to be a pretty big (and awkward) height difference between them. The story seemed to suit this partnership well, though – Chad seems hellbent on getting cozy with Cheryl, and she doesn’t seem too keen about the whole idea (although, if my lovable-but-crazy-mother is right, there may be at least one pic floating around the net of these two smooching at a Miami nightclub recently).  You will likely live to dance another week (thanks Bengals fans), but unless you continue to improve each week, you may have to settle for trying to get cozy with Cheryl off-set…

8.)    Buzz & Ashly – I’ve given up on critiquing Buzz’s dancing – it almost feels criminal to bash the dancing of an 80-year-old former serviceman.  But I will commend these two for choosing a very age-appropriate theme (it would have been a bit hard to watch these two playing lovebirds) and keeping their choreography simple & somewhat easy for Buzz to attempt to follow.  I won’t lie – I got a little misty during this number, but I blame the song and my “daddy issues” for that one.  If Kate goes this week & Aiden goes next week like I think they will, Buzz should be able to stick around for 2 more weeks…but with a smaller cast a lot of decently strong dancers this season, it won’t be long before he’ll be weeded out in favor of stronger technicians.

9.)    Aiden & Edyta – Ok, did anyone else notice the truly HEINOUS voice-cracking of the vocalist that was butchering “Hey Soul Sister”? I had to rewind it at least 4 times, not only because I couldn’t concentrate on these two dancing but because it had me tearing up, I was laughing so hard.  Aiden has improved in the last two weeks, no doubt – but this was just rather unmemorable for me, on the hole.  I thought some of the other couples had more dramatic storylines, and Aiden is still a rather awkward mover.  Unfortunately, more people will probably remember this one for the terrible singing (way to go, Harold Wheeler & company) than for outstanding dancing.  The soap junkies will likely be able to save him for one more week before he runs out of steam.

10.)  Kate & Tony – I have absolutely NOTHING good to say about this dance, so if you’re a Kate fan – don’t read any further.  I thought the idea of using “Paparazzi” was indulgent (I think Kate is an A-list celebrity in her own mind), there was absolutely no emotion, she is still being whiney & difficult in rehearsal, and there was no degree of difficulty here.  If I didn’t know any better, I would almost say that Tony is trying to get them voted off so he doesn’t have to deal with her another week.  Vote for the Worst, I swear – if you keep her around another week, I’m making a voodoo doll for your entire site.

Well…now that I’ve let off quite a bit of steam, I feel a lot better 🙂 Official prediction: Kate & Tony and Aiden & Edyta in the bottom; Kate gets the boot (good riddance).  But what about you guys? It’s your turn to let off steam!
