Dancing with the Stars Season 23, Week 6 – LIVE BLOG!!

Site rules in are effect – don’t hit refresh every 2 minutes, make sure you’re not posting one-liners, etc. Thank you. šŸ™‚

:::sigh::: Tired of the pimpage. Real tired. I guess we’re not putting Laurie in the first half of the show until it no longer matters. Like week 8, perhaps.

I see Pitbull is still afraid to have a male dancer anywhere in hi vicinity unless it’s like a flash mob. He’s gotta have Witney and Sharna on his arm doing the very complicated choreography of hair flipping and looking sexy. :::yawn:::

Derek, at least, was hilarious in the opening. Actually, the whole opening was unintentionally hilarious.

Dang, Pitbull can’t even sit next to a guy…what’s he afraid of? Boy cooties?

Results before the dancing? HATE.

Ryan and Cheryl are safe and dancing first. No kidding.

Is that a really bad contouring job on Ryan or my imagination? Ā Or on purpose? Disappointed in Cheryl’s choreo this week, while I appreciate day glow.

Julianne’s hair is…big. I think it looks good actually. Ā But…he nailed it? Ummm…kind. Okay that overall score was pretty kind.

James and Sharna are safe.

Terra and Sasha are safe.

Amber and Maks are in jeopardy.

Marilu and Derek are Safe.

Damn, if only I had a prayer of looking as good as Marilu when I get to be her age. Dang.

Loved Terra’s package. Dance is a bit too soft, but the choreo is pretty inventive. I love it. Oh, she was hunching over a bit there. Pretty good dance. I expect raves cuz they always go too far.

Okay, I’m agreeing with Julianne and Bruno and the audience really needs to STFU already.

This scoring seems…dictated. Really, Julianne had all that commentary and then throws out an 8? Not that I disagree with it, but it seems…weird.

No, the only thing in Amber’s way is NOT just Amber. Just sayin’.

They gonna dance at some point? That might be a new record for Maks screwing’ around.

What dancing she did seemed pretty good though – didn’t see any obvious mistakes, but it was kinda…low key.

I agree with Julianne’s comments. Not sure that dance was worse than Ryan’s though.

And James silly package is why he could absolutely win this season.

Okay, not usually a fan of rumba, but that looked like a pretty damn good one.

Those are fair scores, I think. But they are making room at at the top of the leaderboard for Laurie…who is the biggest ringer dancing the simplest dance tonight. How long do we have to wait for her to be challenged?

Okay, so Marilu kept the right attitude, but I’m not sure she got all that choreo in there. I thought her legs looked a bit weird. But her legs are great, no doubt. As usual with Derek’s partners I have to watch the dance later to get a real feel for it. I tend to actually judge his partners harder than your usual fan.

Okay, I dig that score. Ooooo…hottie guy from the show after this one in the audience.

Next Couple safe….Laurie and Val.

Calvin and Lindsey – Jeopardy (damn it)

Maureen and Artem – Safe (damn it)

See what over and underscoring gets you?? If Calvin goes home, Imma cut a beyotch.

Jana and Gleb – Jeopardy.

LOL – Gleb is not a good actor. He was totally fed that “sexiest dance ever” line and just didn’t pull it off. And sorry Jana fans, but she’s totally disingenuous.

That was, I thought, a very good Argentine Tango. Ā The problem I had with it was that it was trying too hard. The bed portion was just ridiculous. The shower part was cool though. Ā I think this is one of those instances when inside info ruins a dance for me. Not that I was complaining.

I don’t know it’s worth the four 10s it’s probably going to get. Yeah, over scored by four points. Makes me wonder if she’s not getting the votes.

What is it with these eastern European guys and their inability to teach their partners the right way. Derek used to act like that…when he was 21. Seems like these guys get into it every week.

I do love Maureen’s attitude. Ā She did look petrified at the beginning of that dance though.

Oh boy, missed quite a few steps there at the beginning. Why do they give the total novice dancer the Samba and give the ringer the Salsa? Why?

That’s about the right score for Maureen. No one commented on the steps did they?

Okay, this AT blew Jana’s right out of the water in terms of technicality, difficulty….just amazing. Incredible. And all without the cheapness – no bed, no shower. Ā Should be another perfect score, but I doubt they’ll get it.

And Emma just said on All Access that this dance was every bit as good as Jana’s…and yet you already heard Julianne nitpick. Ā Calvin’s going to get ripped off yet again.

And Emma also just said that Calvin’s score was too low. Damn right girl. Hosed, he was.

This one time that Laurie suffers from going last. She goes right after one of the best ATs ever. And while she dances amazing – I’m left feeling kinda blah. The choreo wasn’t bad, wasn’t great. Of course she danced it well and did the lift well (gymnast). I’m not sure if she’s memorable…which might be why she’s going last.

I’m going to have to agree with Julianne and CAI – that was not a perfect dance.

Jana is safe – which sucks. Calvin….please.

The person going home tonight is….Amber and Maks. Ā Thank you baby Jesus. Not that I dislike Amber…I just didn’t want it to be Calvin.

Heh. Derek clearly thinks the red room cameras have been turned off. He’s so wrong. šŸ˜‰

Dancing with the Stars Season 23, Week 5 – Dancing by the Numbers!

Well, this week will be interesting.Ā  We have a four way tie for last place and Iā€™m sure that was just an accident. :::rolls eyes:::Ā  Let me tell you, one of that four is not like the others ā€“ what the hell is Calvin still doing at the bottom of the leader board? Personally, Iā€™m not convinced that Maureen belongs down there either, but I would only put her above Amber and Ryan by a point. Calvin by 2 or 3 points.Ā  I think that Maureen has been a bit overscored on more than one occasion but I like her so I ainā€™t too mad. Calvin, on the other hand, has been robbed on more than one occasion. Not sure what theyā€™re seeing there, honestly. Lindsey has been doing a tremendous job in choreo and I think she has a harder job than Sharna, the other standout female pro this season.Ā  Good lord, Calvin was throwing Lindsay aroundā€¦it was amazing.

I think that Laurie landed in about the right spot this week, as did Marilu and James. Terraā€¦I donā€™t know what to make of her. I LIKE her so much, a lot of the time, but the contemporary dance didnā€™t do much for me. Conversely, her Samba kicked ASS. I think it has to do with her small stature which limits her ability to get that flowy, smooth finish to dances like Contemporary. Not her fault, but at some point they will have to score her in comparison to other competitors. I think sheā€™s just too high on the leader board this week. Read more..

Maks Chmerkovskiy Can’t Wait To Be A “Stay-At-Home” Dad, Not Doing DWTS Season 24

Maks Chmerkovskiy talked with Bravo TV about his plans for the future. He’s so excited to be a Dad. So much so, he’s not planning to do Dancing With The Stars next season. I have to say….I can’t blame him. Read on to see why. So cute…

“Honestly I feel like going on the record and saying two things,” he exclusively told The Daily Dish. “First of all, like I’ve already said, I’m having the best time of my life on Dancing with the Stars. It’s a known fact. I’ve said it. I was quoted as saying the production is on point. I feel the love. I feel like everybody’s so friendly [and] we all work for the same goal, [which] is to keep dancing in television and produce a beautiful show. Having said that, I’m telling you right now I have zero interest in coming back as a dancer [next season].”

Maks has stepped away from the show before. He took a break between seasons 15 and 18. Following season 18, he took a second hiatus until this current season. He cites the show being “uberstressful” as one of the reasons he’s contemplating another break. Well that, and the fact that he and fiancĆ©e/fellow pro dancer Peta Murgatroyd will soon be parents and newlyweds. They plan to wed in the summer 2017.

“I’m going to have a newborn baby. I have zero want to do this. I promise you that,” he said.”It’s been it for me two years ago. I never thought I’d be back here in this position. I’m glad I am. I promise, I’m so glad that I made this decision. But like I said [I’m] looking forward. The baby comes in January and then a month-and-a-half later I would have to be in L.A. to start training with somebody else. Trust me, I really don’t care how this comes across, but there’s no money on the planet that can replace me missing out the three, four, five months of my baby’s life. Zero chance. I can’t wait for all of this, diapers, and all of this stuff. I cant wait for Peta to pursue her goals and whatever and I just want to be a stay-at-home dad.”

DWTS Season 23, Week 6 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

It’s Latin Night!! Ā I’ll be very curious to see how everyone does. For my own thinking purposes, I listed which contestant has done which latin dance (per Wiki). I didn’t remember DWTS including Jive in the latin dance category so I did a bit of research to see what DWTS typically calls “latin”. All the way back to season 17, it was A.Tango, Paso, rumba, Salsa, Samba and Cha Cha. In season 17, the included 3 Jives, but no salsa or Cha Cha. Season 16 included a Jive dance off in Latin week. In season 14 they ONLY did Samba, Salsa and A. Tango. Seems that would gave been better to replace either Salsa or Samba with Cha Cha for a bit of obvious variety. I don’t expect we’ll be so lucky to only get 2 or 3 styles so they can compare the couples. Nah. That’s all the research I had energy for, so I included who did Jive in my list.

Laurie – Cha Cha, Jive, Paso
Calvin – Cha Cha
Marilu – Jive, Paso
Maureen – Salsa, A.Tango
James – Paso, Cha Cha
Jana – Jive
Ryan – Cha Cha
Terra – Samba
Amber – Salsa, A.Tango, Samba

Maks Chmerkovskiy In New DWTS23 Blog: “Iā€™m having one of the best seasons, mentally and emotionally, that Iā€™ve ever had”

Maks Chmerkovskiy has written a new blog at Entertainment Weekly. He writes of the “giant wake-up” he and Amber had. He talks of how he was inspired to make Amber’s costume. He gives a preview to next week’s Latin Night dance. He also writes of how he’s having one of the best seasons he’s ever had (I’m glad he’s back too!).

Two secrets: First, Iā€™ve put together all of my partners dresses for 15 seasons! Tailoring them to their body type and personality. Iā€™m in the wardrobe fitting, suggesting cuts and design, all of those things. And secondly, this particular dress of Amberā€™s was actually made from all white Swarovski crystals. But then, the wardrobe department had a Sharpie party, and colored all of those crystals on the dress!

The wardrobe department is really incredible. Daniella Gschwendtner and Steven Lee have been there since day two and theyā€™re amazing. Even during my show with Val over the summer, ABC let us use those resources, and itā€™s amazing to work with someone who knows you and your body ā€“ thatā€™s always a gamechanger. The wardrobe department always has one of the most stressful jobs because things can go wrong at the last minute, but their efforts always end up looking amazing.

On next weekā€™s Latin Night:
Iā€™m definitely looking forward to our Cha-Cha for Latin Week. Iā€™m figuring out Amberā€™s style, and what she looks good doing. We donā€™t have to play current poppy songs for this to be suitable to Amber, so I think Iā€™ve found an amazing song for her that will make this into a beautiful, seamless performance. I think this past week made Amber skyrocket in dance fitness, and generally moving her feet in ways she didnā€™t before.

Each week is building on the previous one, so each workout provides steps for the next dance. Working on the Samba this week made us more able to do parts of a Cha-Cha next week, and so on. I think that having the Samba this week was the best way to get her ready for the next performance. Itā€™s all about pushing yourself ā€” itā€™s a conveyor belt of creativity. Iā€™m like a personal trainer, a dancer, a designer, and a psychiatrist all in one.

Some thoughts on coming back to the show:
I just keep noticing little things that make me feel great about the decision I made to come back to the show. I want to give credit where itā€™s due ā€” thereā€™s an incredible production team here. Theyā€™re doing a great job to keep the show both modern and entertaining. Iā€™m having one of the best seasons, mentally and emotionally, that Iā€™ve ever had, and I think itā€™s because of everyone whoā€™s involved in this show, the way things have been communicated, and how things are working. Iā€™ve criticized the production in the past, and so I really wanted to take some time to say just what a great job theyā€™re doing.

PureDWTS Season 23, Week 5 – Power Rankings

In a pleasant turn of events from last week’s near-universal Cirque dumpster fire, nearly everyone this week at least did ok-to-great with their dances – I don’t feel like anyone really stepped in it or f*cked up beyond help.Ā  Truth be told, I think I’d rather forego switch week (and judging from the lack of chatter I’ve heard from our sources about the switch, we are probably gonna forego it this season) and let couples have a no-elim week during most memorable year/personal story week.Ā  As I was discussing with some of my Twitter followers, the novelty of the switch has worn off, and it just seems like kind of a drag these days – it’s stressful for all involved, the judges seem inclined to “make an example” and score harshly during switch week, and height differences (a la Kim & Keo last season, and potentially with Calvin & Terra this season) seem like they could potentially screw over some pairings.Ā  Next week is Latin week, and we’ve got confirmation that week 8 is Halloween week (again) – that really only leaves week 7 as a possibility for switch week, and there will only be 8 couples left by then…every time they’ve done the switch, they’ve done it with 9 couples.Ā  Could they do it with only 8 couples? Yes.Ā  Will they? I doubt it.Ā  Can’t say I’m terribly disappointed.

As many of us predicted, there was no elim last night, despite TPTB trying to fake out the couples that there would be.Ā  Seemed like every time I tweeted “I don’t think there will be an elim”, at least one person would tweet back with “But Court, James said they were told there WOULD be an elim!” Guess what: the powers that be LIE. They think they’re slick, the think they’re really pulling a “gotcha!” on both the contestants AND the viewers, and most of the time, those two groups don’t know enough to second guess them.Ā  Thing is, we’ve been watching this show long enough to know that there has never been THREE eliminations based on one set of viewer votes (in this case, last Monday’s viewer votes).Ā  That’s unprecedented, and has the potential to rile up a LOT of viewers – which is why it was kinda easy for me to see that they weren’t going to do it.Ā  But maybe this thought hadn’t even crossed their mind, and they were actually planning on it – until someone actually sat down and thought about it.Ā  Wouldn’t be the first time this show flew by the seat of their pants with plans week to week. If they had actually done it, I would put money on it that we would have seen Jana or Amber fall – and honestly, I wouldn’t have been upset if either left.Ā  But they didn’t, so just keep this in mind: TPTB often fib for the sake of drama, and the other half of the time, they’re just making sh*t up as they go along.

Other random thoughts from last night? Was nice to get a proper pro dance at the top of the show, even if it felt a bit random and out-of-place – but I was glad to get an actual ballroom dance, without hair-flipping, or shirt removal, or low-brow “sexy” choreography.Ā  Did TPTB (or Mandy) actually take a look at social media and see all the complaints about how we’re all just kinda over the “sexy” pro dances? And that we actually want to see the pros DANCING??? Seems like a possibility. I also had to raise my eyebrows at the fact that we currently have a 4-way tie for last place – and that 3 of the 4 in that group are what I would consider to be “on the bubble” and at-risk for being eliminated next week anyway, regardless of score. Keeping the margins awfully close, and throwing it to the fans, it seems… Read more..
