So many stunning shots from Dancing With The Stars last night. Click on the photos to see more. I think if I had to pick my favorite costume, it would be Derek & Marilu’s, but, I truly loved them all.

PureDWTS Season 23 Week 5 – Media, Scores, And Interviews After The Show

What a great night of dancing and I’m so glad no was eliminated. My top 5 last night were: James & Sharna, Derek & Marilu, Jana & Gleb, Calvin & Lindsay, and Terra and Sasha. Speaking of Terra & Sasha, would you believe they were eliminated in rehearsals yesterday? Crazy. Lots of fun things to read on this week and next week below. Also, below are the scores if you’d like to review them again. Keep checking back. We may post more media and interviews later if more comes out.

James Hinchcliffe and Sharna Burgess: 29/30
Marilu Henner and Derek Hough: 27/30
Jana Kramer and Gleb Savchenko: 26/30
Terra Jole and Sasha Farber: 27/30
Laurie Hernandez and Val Chmerkovskiy: 25/30
Calvin Johnson and Lindsay Arnold: 24/30
Maureen McCormick and Artem Chigvintsev: 24/30
Ryan Lochte and Cheryl Burke: 24/30
Amber Rose and Maks Chmerkovskiy: 24/30

From Glamour….

The couples didn’t know there wouldn’t be an elimination, especially because the producers staged a faux elimination during dress rehearsal (usually the couple eliminated in dress rehearsal isn’t the couple that’s eliminated during the live show). “We thought someone was going home,” admitted Gleb Savchenko. And why is that? “[Because] Sasha was eliminated in rehearsal!” laughed Gleb. While it hasn’t been announced if there will be a double elimination next week, Gleb thinks there won’t be, but it’s possible we’ll see one the week after that.

So what’s on tap next week? It will be Latin night in the ballroom, and Jana Kramer told me she can’t wait to turn up the heat. “I’m excited to get out there and be sassy! I’m going to be a little sass kitten.” (For the record, I reminded Jana that she’s pretty much been doing that all season long.)

On a more serious note, Jana said she was grateful for how Most Memorable Year week turned out, even if plenty of tears were shed. “I love the night because I feel like we’re all able to break down a wall. Gleb choreographed an amazing routine for my daughter.” As it turns out, Jana and Gleb actually wanted her daughter to be part of the dance, “but for safety reasons, we couldn’t,” Jana revealed.

While there’s still a few more months to go in 2016, Jana already knows one thing she’s grateful for: “I’ve learned how strong I am. I had no idea how strong I am until I had my daughter. I’m forever grateful for that little peanut because she’s given me so much light and strength that I never imagined I could ever have.”

Speaking of giving thanks, Canadian James Hinchcliffe celebrated his Thanksgiving a day early with his girlfriend and Sharna back east. “We all had some turkey last night and sweet potatoes, and I tried to have a mini commonwealth Thanksgiving!” Of course, as viewers now know, what James is most grateful for is his ability to walk away from that racing accident that left him fighting for his life. “I’m a very, very lucky guy and I know that,” he said backstage. “That’s the important thing—realizing it. And appreciating it.”

During last night’s show, Carrie Ann Inaba declared Team Stop ‘n Go the ones to beat, but James admitted that he “almost wish[es] she hadn’t said that!” Sharna echoed her partner’s sentiment: “It’s both [a blessing and a curse to hear that]. It tells you that the hard work is really paying off…but it’s also a curse because it’s a lot of pressure! We’re at the top of the leaderboard and that is damn hard to keep up.”

Still, now that DWTS is back to one night a week for the rest of the season, Sharna is looking forward to Read more..

Dancing with the Stars Season 23, Week 5 – LIVE BLOG!!

Site rules in are effect – don’t hit refresh every 2 minutes, make sure you’re not posting one-liners, etc. Thank you. 🙂

So…it’s week 5.  Who they gonna get real with, real quick?? I’m predicting Maureen and Amber…and they’ll continue to hose Marilu. We’ll see. I can’t believe they WANT to get rid of their one shot at a Choreography Emmy…but perhaps they consider last week a job well done. “You can go now.”

THAT is why I watch DWTS, people. The full orchestra, the beautiful ballroom dance. I’m misty. I’m sad that this is a throwback to the “old” DWTS.

Ah, Maureen. You go girl.

Oh boy….a foxtrot that looks like a waltz. The music is not helpful. Pretty dance, but the passes were a bit stiff it seemed like. I predict she’ll be over scored. I really like her, but I’m not sure why they rave quite as much as they do.

Okay, I can live with 8s. That seems about right. Of course, I reserve the right to change my mind depending on how the rest of the evening is scored.

I wonder if the lip sync police will come out on this one. Stupid, CAI.

Jerry Rice!!  I want Dance Center now. Anyway, that was a good dance, but to be fair, I don’t like it when a Jazz (?) goes up against traditional ballroom this week either.

I say that…but I think they’re still hosing him a bit on scores.

Is Jana dressed just like she has been since the season started or is that my imagination?

That baby is just gorgeous. So sweet.

Oo..awkward lift. Okay…confession. I’m kinda over the contemporary. They all look kinda the same at this point when done by someone other than Allison or Derek.  Gorgeous baby though. Pretty dance but…eh.

Pitbull next week as performer and guest judge. 😀

Decent score for Jana. I would say too high, but…

This pro dance is pretty good…a step in the right direction anyway. Lindsay’s hair is confusing me tremendously. 🙂

Ryan’s mom wanted him to swim so he would stay out of trouble? The jokes just write themselves. 😉 He’s a cute guy, that Ryan.

Oh another over wrought contemporary….I spoke to soon. Cool backward move from Cheryl and she’s going a different route than usual.  This is why Cheryl is ten times the choreographer than Val or Maks – she choreographs something very simple looking yet still compelling. She choreographs for her partner.

Hmmm….8s are good. I found his dance more interesting than Jana’s. I can live with that.

You GO, Laurie. Tell him.  Val, you could NOT be a jerk to a 16 year old.  She’s not an adult yet, dude.

All right, this is pretty cool…but I think they’re lucky Len isn’t there. That’s some messing’ about. Something a bit weird with the Paso part…like she’s over turning or something. She’s not front enough. I feel I’m not making sense. Good dance, though. Not perfect…which has never stopped the judges before…

CAI is channeling me. This frightens me. That said…while I think it was inappropriate for the paso, it was the most creative thing Val has done in ages. And yes, she did fall out of the turn. I think that’s what I was seeing.

Oh Val shut up and quit making Most Memorable Year all about you. Jesus. This is Laurie’s journey.

Marilu up next…let’s have that breakthrough, please. Ahhh….this is exactly what I was thinking Marilu’s problem is. She’s a huge Derek fangirl and she doesn’t want to disappoint him.

Wow…that felt VERY different than anything she’s done before. That was beautiful…and the first package I cried through. Just gorgeous. I think their talk helped and I think perhaps Derek has her figured out.

CAI is so right…she seemed like a different person. Goooood score. I’m happy with that one.

Okay what did I miss? Why was Amber upset. I didn’t see anything Maks did that was out of line.

She’s having problems with this dance, she’s not committing to it and she’s dancing too soft/small. Very curious.

There was a lot of content? Really? Okay. I do agree she’s only giving 80 percent, but I thought it was the entire time including when she was alone.   I also dig the costume. Makes me hungry for candy tho. 😉

Hmmmm….compared to the rest of the 8’s tonight, I’m not sure. Harder dance than what Jana and Ryan had, but I dunno.

My reaction mirrors Sharna’s regarding James’ injury.  God.

James is so freakin’ good…but the whole elevated part of that dance I didn’t see as a tango. If I could give advice to pros, I would tell them to stop using the stairs. It breaks the dance up too much. Beautifully danced, no matter.

(He could win this season…) And the language from the Pros tell me that he just might be winning..

Hehehehe….we have us a competition. 😉

Terra’s package had me crying like Marilu’s did – I feel them on the loss of a parent.

As for the dance…I’m not sure how I feel about it. I’m going to have to watch it again. The staging with the gate was incredibly heavy handed. Plus, she’s so small that she can’t really finish the lines.  I’m just not sure I cared for the choreography. But as long as she liked it, why not.

I think I would have given a mix of 8s and 9s, but I won’t begrudge Terra all 9s.

So, are we having an elimination? I think the show only has a minute left.

Nope. You can’t fool us, Tom. 🙂

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. Maks Chmerkovskiy Writes On DWTS Week 4 And The Male Pro Number, Previews Next Dance With Amber Rose

Maks Chmerkovskiy has written a new blog at Entertainment Weekly. He writes of this past week’s dance with Amber. He also writes on the Male Pro number (loveddd!!!) and next week’s dance with Amber. More below and at the link.

On last night’s all-male pro group dance:

I have to give all credit to Mandy Moore and Will Loftus. Mandy’s an old friend, and her job on the show is to choreograph one dance a week. She’s a great choreographer and so brilliant, but I feel like she just doesn’t get enough credit. As dancers, we’re big advocates for putting people in the light that deserve it, so I wanted to make sure she gets credit!

Basically the concept was, “Let’s get five dudes to dance something sexy.” But without stripping or taking our shirts off. So we got the five of us, who are pretty like-minded. Artem is already Mr. Velvet himself. I was doing my best to stay kind of moody and sultry! (laughs) I think it turned out pretty great. You know we don’t want to waste air time on a sh—ty dance number, so there’s a lot of pressure to make these group dances good. But we get to entertain on our own terms, we have this platform and it’s an honor to have the opportunity to do stuff like this every week, on a live show. There’s nothing like it!

On sneak peaks for next week’s dance:

We’re doing the Samba, so that will be a big test because it’s very active. The theme is “The Celeb’s Most Memorable Year,” which is always a heart wrenching one. I might be dropping some tears. The performance is meant to celebrate an event in their lives, so I hope it’ll be as entertaining as this week was.

I feel like Amber and I are finally entering the competition – we were sort of like that couple in the back of the class. Up until now, we’ve been, like, “I’m not sure what I’m doing… Am I in the wrong class?” (laughs) And finally we’re like, “Ah, now we got this!”
