PureDWTS Exclusive: New Interview With Sharna Burgess, Special Message To Fans, And Lots More

We thought it was high time to catch up with Dancing With The Stars Sharna Burgess!! In a new exclusive interview below, Sharna chats with us about Dancing With The Stars Season 19. She answers fun questions on choreographing, whether Dancing With The Stars is neglecting ballroom styles, and the Dancing With The Stars Season 10th Anniversary coming up (but, her lips are completely sealed 🙂 ). We also ask Sharna about her and Derek Hough’s routine for Goldie Hawn’s Inaugural “Love In For Kids” Benefit that took place a few weeks ago. She also chats with us about her upcoming projects including “Shall We Dance On Ice December 16th, “Sway“, and Dancing With The Stars At Sea. Also included is a special message to her fans. Lots lots more below. We thank her so much for taking time out of her busy schedule for us. Enjoy…

Vogue: Hello Miss Sharna! How are you? It’s so cool to visit with you again! I hope you are well and you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Hi love!!! Great to chat with you again! My thanksgiving was filled with lots of love and too much food… Exactly the way it should be

So, how are you feeling overall about Dancing With The Stars Season 19? Was it everything you expected? I thought it was a fantastic season. My only complaint is there weren’t enough Pro Numbers during the middle part of the season, but, for what we did see, they were fantastic thanks to your choreography.:) So, if you were to name your favorite pro number from this past season, which would it be and why?

Season 19 was a fantastic!! So much creativity from so many pros. I loved Derek’s salsa, paso and of course his freestyle. Mark and Sadie I loved nearly every dance, he was soooo on point this season with her!! And Val truly took his creative concepts and vision to another level this season, it wasn’t always about steps, it was about telling a story… And we all know that’s my favorite thing in the world!! And of course… We finally had a male celeb win since Peta and Donald Driver!!! Yay girl power and Witney certainly was the girl for the job… What a team!

SharnaBurgess1

There really wasn’t enough pro numbers this season, (and yay thank you for the love) being out so early this season I really missed not having more to do or create. I am super proud of the group numbers I created this season, but honestly my favorite Read more..

Sharna Burgess And Paul Kirkland Interviewed By Kanan’s Rules About DWTS, Careers, And More

Kanan’s Rules of UBNRadio interviewed Dancing With The Stars Sharna Burgess and her boyfriend and dancer Paul Kirkland last night. Sharna starts out the interview highlighting her dancing career and how she met Paul in the movie “Street Dance 2” (*just ordered this on Blu-ray! 😀 ). Interesting as Sharna also mentions how she and Paula are both “Gemini’s” which Sharna says is like having “4 personalities living in one house”. Sharna is also asked about Dancing With The Stars. She was first asked to do the show in 2009 during her run in “Burn The Floor” on Broadway. At the time, she didn’t want to quit. She wanted to finish the show out and also she was bound to a contract, but, the producers of Dancing With The Stars waited (even after making “Street Dance 2” as well) and kept calling until Sharna could finally do the show in 2011. After that, they chat about Sharna’s Dancing With The Stars partners Andy Dick and Keyshawn Johnson and the differences between them in personality on the dance floor. Not much is mentioned about the new season of Dancing With The Stars except that Sharna says they are “in the dark” like we are about who’s dancing and what will happen. Fun interview. Be sure you listen to it in full to get more details in the Podcast section at Kanan’s Rules of UBNRadio.

DWTS17: Looking forward… I want to see an Underdog Charmer!

I’m raising my hand, and admitting that some of my FAVORITE contestants on DWTS since season 3, have been the ones that didn’t win… The ones who had a LOT going against them even before they started the season. How many times have we heard one of the following about a contestant?

“How could they cast….?” “NO ONE is ever going to vote for…” “I hope they quit before they start and save themselves the embarrassment!” “Does anyone ever google and see how awful this person is???” It’s DEFINITELY not fair to anyone, when we say or hear things like that. They’re the ones who put themselves out there on the show, and they’re the ones who ended up showing us someone completely different than what we thought. With the help of a very patient professional, they’ve been able to surprise us, and sometimes themselves, and shown a completely different person than who we thought we would see! I love watching the transformations of each of the contestants, and I always love to “see” someone grow and blossom!

This by far ISN’T going to be a complete list, but here are some Underdog Charmers from previous seasons.

Andy Dick from Season 16 taught by Sharna Burgess. Andy’s fresh in our minds, and I am NOT going to go back through his history, since it wasn’t that long ago that it was all brought up again. But, he DEFINITELY ended up charming everyone, and showing a side of himself that I don’t know he even knew he had!
Here’s Andy’s dances for you to enjoy again!Week 1 Week 2 Week 3 Week 4Week 5 Week 6Week 7

Lil Kim from Season 8 and Joanna Krupa from Season 9 both taught by Derek Hough. I’m putting both of them together for a reason. Kim came into her season with people determined to hate her, thinking that there was NO WAY that she should be on, since she had spent some time in jail. Joanna came into her season after attempting another reality competition show, where she was paired with a professional athlete, and had a public breakdown, with many words said that were not repeatable. And, since that show aired not long before her season of DWTS, it was fresh in people’s minds, and again, she came in as an underdog. Here are most of their dances to relive!
Lil Kim: Week 1Week 2Week 3Week 4Week 5Week 6Week 7Week 8Week 9
Joanna: Week 1Week 2Week 3Week 4Week 6Week 7Week 8Week 9 *I did not include Week 5 for Joanna, because Derek was ill with the flu, and was replaced by Maks for that week only. I could have included that week, but chose not to, just to make it easier on me.

Adam Carolla from Season 6 taught by Julianne Hough. Adam is the first one that I can remember, where there was “visible noise” surrounding his announcement, both over his questionable past, and being paired with Julianne. They even had precautions in place, since they weren’t sure “who” he would end up being on the show. I remember that the trigger-happy censors were so sure that he would need to be bleeped, that they ended up bleeping Julianne instead! He survived 4 weeks, against all odds! It was fun rewatching his dances, because he definitely knew how to crack everyone up back stage! Week 1 Week 2 Week 3Week 4

Soo…… I didn’t put everyone that I could have included in this post, we’ve had MANY contestants that would fit here, so I’m looking to do more posts, with MORE of our Underdog Charmers! Who would YOU include, and why? Who do you think people were NOT looking forward to see dance, because of their pasts, only to be charmed by THEM?

PureDWTS Exclusive: Sharna Burgess Reflects & Talks On DWTS 17, Gives “Michael Jackson One” Show Review

SharnaBurgess2

Hi All!!! Sharna Burgess talked with us recently about the new changes for Dancing With The Stars Season 17. She also reflected on the past season of Dancing With The Stars and what her first year was like as a pro. Sharna was also gracious enough to give us a sneak peek into what the new “Michael Jackson One” Cirque du Soleil show in Las Vegas is like one of which I’m dying to see and maybe you are too? Lots more below with our beautiful Sharna and we thank her once again for taking time to answer a few questions. Without further ado….

1. Hey Sharna!! How are you and how are you feeling after your first season as a Pro on Dancing With The Stars? Is it everything you hoped it would be?

It was amazing!! It certainly lived up to what I had hoped and Andy surpassed any expectations people had of him. Truly I enjoyed every moment, creatively and emotionally it was challenging rewarding and beautiful.

I don’t think I could ever have prepared myself for the weekly roller coaster of not knowing if my decisions were the right ones, if my choreography was enough or did my concept make sense. Wondering when it would come together or did I have to re think everything. It always came together because Andy is such a superstar, he truly helped me make my ideas come to life. I also couldn’t have guessed that I would make the emotional connection I did with Andy. He was such an amazing person to get to know and become a part of his life.

2. How are you feeling about the new changes coming to Dancing With The Stars next season? Whatever happens, many fans like myself just hope you’ll be returning. Read more..

Vote for Your Favorites in the PureDWTS Season 16 End-of-Season Awards!!!

Ok gang, now that the hype has had some time to die down…it’s time to vote for your favorites & least favorites in this season’s end-of-season awards 🙂 Pretty self-explanatory – just select what you think is the best option for each category and submit it.  “But Courtney, you don’t have my favorite listed!!!” Yes, there is an option for write-ins…HOWEVER…

…after the absolute chaos that was the HUNDREDS of write-in votes last season, I’m going to really crack down on the write-in votes.  If you absolutely MUST write-in a response other than the ones we have listed (and I took great pains to include the responses that I thought would be the most likely choices for each category), you MUST do so with a certain format in mind…for example, if you were trying to write in “Zendaya & Val’s Argentine tango” for the best dance, you MUST do it just like I typed it – captalize the first names of the celeb first, then the pro; throw an “&” in the middle, and then put the type of dance after that.  Examples of what not to do: “zendaya val tango” or “Zendaya tango” or “any dance Zendaya did!!!!” Yeah, especially that last one – you get to choose ONE DANCE, not 13.  Any responses that don’t fit the scheme I just laid out are getting thrown out – sorry guys, but I just don’t have the energy (or desire) to weed through 300+ nonsensical, misspelled, & obnoxious responses.  Got it? Good.  Now vote away 🙂 We’ll share the results in the coming weeks.  Read more..

PureDWTS Season 16 Post Elimination Media, Numerology Prediction Correct, And More

We have lots of fun post Dancing With The Stars Season 16 elimination interviews and media to share with you this morning, but, first we’d like to commend reader @DonaMadrina. She nailed it in her Numerology Report that she sent to us for the new Zodiac post this season. She made us a graph in gif form so we could take a look at this again….

NumerologySeason16FinaleChart1

Amazing, isn’t it? GOOD JOB DONA!!xxx

With that said, I’d just like to comment how much I loved last night’s finale. I think my only complaint of the whole night (like many others) was Zendaya’s flat shoes. 😯 Other than that, it was so cool seeing Sharna and Andy’s phenomenal Mad Hatter Lady Gaga Jazz number again. What’s more, they made it a huge dance production. And how about Dorothy Hamill and Kristi Yamaguchi’s dance with Henry and Sasha? What a “moment” that was. I also loved the performances by Wynonna (what a powerhouse), PSY (I’m so addicted to that crazy song and dance production now. lol), and Pitbull. A night to remember for sure!! More in Heidi’s Spoiler post and comments. You can also download all the music from the night in John’s new Music post here.

Ok, so let’s get right to some elimination interviews with Access Hollywood. Derek and Kellie, Aly and Mark, and Jacoby and Karina reflect on the season and how happy they are for this experience. Sorry, there isn’t anything posted for Val and Zendaya (yet anyway?)….

E News has a wrap up on the night and some interviews as well here.

And thanks to Kaitlyn showing us their location, below are the On The Red Carpet interviews…..

Let’s hope ET Online has some interviews posted shortly too.

Also, stay tuned to Pure Derek Hough as Miss Heidi will have a full mega wrap up there with Kellie and Derek including more articles and interviews for what you don’t see here.

Ok, more in a bit!!! 😉

ETA: Here is the cast out and about after the finale:

Dancing with the Stars Season 16, The Finale – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

And does anyone still care?? 🙂 I’m trying to care, really I am.

Thought for the day: I looked up the actual definition of “social engineering” which lead me to “confidence trick” and “exploits characteristics of the human psyche”. Just sayin’.

This is how it stacks up so far. I don’t think the dance order has really mattered for a couple weeks in terms of voting. I think at this stage it could have more of an impact on the judges scoring. They could put Kellie and Zendaya first and judge the other two against that bar. Or Zendaya and Aly – I’m still not sure, however, that their love affair with Aly wasn’t a product of not wanting Ingo in the finale.  Same for Jacoby. I thought he was great, but I sense that he’s seen his last 30’s if he’s not getting the lion’s share of the votes. Anyway, here are the dances – think Kellie was the least favored here, not sure.  Also note that I’ve not included the instant dance on Tuesday night. As previously reported, only the top three perform that. Someone is told they are fourth place right at the beginning of the show…or within the first hour, anyway.

If I were a betting woman, I would say this will be the order…

Zendaya and Val
Dance 1 (Judges Choice): Samba
Dance 2: Cha Cha Relay
Dance 3: Freestyle
Voting # 1-800-868-3406

Kellie and Derek
Dance 1 (Judges Choice): Quickstep
Dance 2: Cha Cha Relay
Dance 3: Freestyle
Voting # 1-800-868-3401

Jacoby and Karina
Dance 1 (Judges Choice): Jive
Dance 2: Cha Cha Relay
Dance 3: Freestyle
Voting # 1-800-868-3412

Aly and Mark
Dance 1 (Judges Choice): Samba
Dance 2: Cha Cha Relay
Dance 3: Freestyle
Voting # 1-800-868-3408

Zendaya and Aly both having Samba strikes me as…fishy. I need Courtney the ballroom dancer because Samba doesn’t strike me as the “easiest” dance of the four that were handed out, but I’m honestly not sure who, if anyone, is getting hosed here. I think the Samba ladies have an easier “fake it till you make it” dance – the same can’t be said of Quickstep. I think probably Jacoby is probably the worst off, even though he LOVES to Jive. He’s FUN, but is he technically a good jiver??

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Andy Dick, Show Us Your Dance Moves; Aly Raisman Discusses New Dances For DWTS Finals

I can’t stop cracking up! What a way to start the morning! See what I mean below…

It’s going to be fun to see Andy again next week, isn’t it?!!

Aly has also a written a new blog for parade.com. She talks of how much she’s grown as a person on Dancing With The Stars. She never expected to have this much fun or to make it this far. Below she talks about Jacoby, the competition, and her new dances with Mark.

It feels amazing to make it to the finals. I’ve been saying all along that I just really want to make it to this point, and then whatever place I get, I’ll be happy with that. Of course, I’d love to win, but I’ve gotten so much out of this competition that whatever I get I’ll be happy. I’m going to work so hard this week. Whatever happens, it’s meant to be. I can’t work any harder, so it’s kind of up to America now.

I don’t think Jacoby’s intimidated by us three girls at all — or at least he shouldn’t be! America loves him. He just won the Super Bowl and he has an amazing personality, so I think he feels really confident. At the same time, he works so hard and he wants it — all of us want to win. I think it’s going to be a close competition. I’ll be so happy for whoever wins. I don’t know who my biggest competition is because you don’t know whether America is going for the best dancer to win or if they’re looking for someone with a fun personality, or someone who has improved a lot. It just depends on who America is looking for. No one knows what place everyone is in.

Next Monday, we have the samba and the cha-cha challenge with the other three couples, freestyle, and the 24-hour challenge, so this week is a lot of dances, but I’m really excited. It’s the last time we have to perform out there, so it’s sad because I’ve been having so much fun. I just want to make the most of these next few days and enjoy it.

Aly has really grown on me. I can’t wait to see her in the Finals. I hope she just keeps having fun and letting loose. More at parade.com.
