Quick update if you live in the Rocky Mountain area!! According to the Denver Post, Gleb Savchencko And Anna Trebunskaya will be in Vail to dance in the Vail International dance festival. Friday night’s Ballroom Spectacular program is packed. Five couples will perform 25 pieces over the course of the evening. And all the types of ballroom will be represented: Tango, waltz, swing, cha cha, samba, waltz, mambo, foxtrot, rumba, cabaret, bolero and more.
“The Ballroom night is tradition at the dance festival for many reasons,” said Damian Woetzel, the Vail International Dance Festival artistic director. “Perhaps most importantly, ballroom dancing is something we all can relate to as having the possibility that we can participate ourselves, that we might waltz or rumba should the happy opportunity arise. And of course the dancers themselves are thrilling, each year bringing to vivid life on the stage the dances we see on television.”
Emmanuel Pierre-Antoine puts the program together and also participates. His partner is Liana Churilova.
“Emmanuel is always looking for the top dancers who are winning competitions,” said Martha Brassel, the festival manager.
Anna Trebunskaya and Gleb Savchenko will dance. Trebunskaya has wowed festival audiences before; Savchenko is new this year.
“He’s the Dancing with the Stars hottie who is coming,” Brassel said.

The official summer season of Ballroom With A Twist starts this weekend. Val Chmerkovskiy and Anna Treybunskaya will be dancing in Brooks, California at the Cache Creek Casino Resort. The Sacramento Bee interviewed Val about the show. He talks all about it below for how the show is more than just dancing. He also talks about Dancing With The Stars and being a violinist…
“This show is a fusion of ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ alumni and finalists from ‘American Idol,’ ” Chmerkovskiy explained. “It’s hip-hop with a bit of a twist, bringing in some ballroom dancing. Somewhat into the show, we invite the audience to come on stage and it turns into a big dance party.
“Nobody feels intimidated,” he continued. “We don’t grab people and throw them on stage. We’ve never had a problem, believe me, getting people to participate. The group that comes on stage is clearly dominated by women, but there’s a mix. The audience is so comfortable by that time because we work hard to build a relationship.”
But the show is more than just dancing, Chmerkovskiy said.
“Another twist is a Q and A we have at the end of the show,” he said. “I am enjoying these shows immensely and the venues in which I’ve performed. I’ve never had such a privilege before.”
Chmerkovskiy has been with “Dancing With the Stars” through many changes, a significant one last year being the dropping of the live orchestra, which stirred a controversy among loyalists.
“I was sad, of course,” Chmerkovskiy said of the change. “There’s a beauty in live music that can never be substituted by electronics. But there’s also another side. Pop music changes so much there are sounds that can’t be replicated by live musicians, and last year, I think, was the best season we had music-wise.”
Chmerkovskiy knows more about music than just how to dance to it. He’s also a violinist, which he describes as his “first passion.” He took up the instrument when he was 5 years old in Odessa, Ukraine.
“I took it very seriously until I became a concert master of a youth orchestra when I was 17 or 18,” he said. “Then my teacher moved to San Francisco, and once he was gone, I lost it. Without practice, my skill level fell. I don’t play it with any seriousness now.”

Drew Lachey tells People that everyone on Dancing With The Stars this season is competitive and having a lot of fun so far. He also is predicting Joey Fatone will be a “direct rival”. Below is more including his thoughts on new partner Anna Trebunskaya as well.
“I think there’s a bit of a competitive streak between Joey Fatone and myself,” Lachey says, jokingly. “We’re good friends and we go back a long way. But the smack-talk is already starting with the boy band competition thing.”
Other notable threats, he says, are Shawn Johnson, who is “very athletic and very strong,” and Gilles Marini, who he believes is the face of the Argentine tango.
Lachey, who calls the whole DWTS experience “almost like a political campaign,” doesn’t have any tactic to winning except being a “what you see is what you get” kind of guy.
“If they like me on the dance floor and they like who I am, then please vote for me,” he says. “If there’s someone else they relate to more, then they’re going to vote for them. In season 2, we didn’t have Facebook. We didn’t have Twitter. It was just more of how your dancing was, and how people connected to you as a performer and as a contestant on the show. So I’m going into it with the same kind of mentality.”
Partnered with Anna Trebunskaya this time around, as opposed to his mirror ball trophy-winning mate Cheryl Burke, Lachey says, “I think it’s going to be a whole lot of fun because I get a whole new bag of tricks, basically. For people who have the same partner, they’re going to use the same techniques and do the same style and teaching method.”
