PureDWTS15 The “All-Star Forefathers”, “The Ballroom Shuffle”, Dance Fusion POLL (VOTE)

Some things remind us of why we are all here and the political ads on Dancing With The Stars this past week, the pic above titled as the “All-Star Forefathers” by Dancing With The Stars Official Facebook, and the poem below by PureDWTS reader Lois were several of them.

THE BALLROOM SHUFFLE

The ballroom was shuffled, the deck was stacked
The dances were crazy mixed up, were attacked

The theme was fusion, a blending of two dances
Throwing cards in the air, taking many chances

Dance steps had to intertwine, into the other flow
We marveled as all the dancers aced them just so

Kelly and Val mixed Fox Trot, Cha-Cha with ease
Melissa and Tony mixed Tango, Cha-Cha to please

Emmitt and Cheryl gave the Rumba, Samba a whirl
Gilles, Peta gave Argentine Tango, Samba a twirl

Karina and Apolo’s Cha-Cha, Paso Doble excited
Max, Kirstie’s Quickstep, Samba surely delighted

A mixed up trio arrived to the Ballroom Shuffle dance
Two fellows dressed alike, only one will get the chance

Mark, chosen to dance Paso Doble, Tango with Shawn
All Derek could do was sit in the audience looking on

The Ballroom Shuffle experiment dazzled and amazed
The dancing cards shuffled, new dancing trails blazed

A swing dance marathon was danced to Do Your Thing
Who would be crowned Swing Dance Queen and King

The couples were tagged, they had to leave the floor
First to go were Kirstie and Max, were shown the door

Second to go, Gilles and Peta ended their swing dance
Apolo and Karina were tagged third, lost their chance

Fourth to be tagged, Emmitt, Cheryl’s time was done
Number Five, Shawn and Mark, had to leave the fun

It was down to two couples, who would get the score
Kelly and Val’s valiant try, number six, could go no more

Tony and Melissa’s endurance made them last to go
Winning the crown of the ballroom Swing Dance Show

Next week trios will dance together, not two but three
Kirstie and Max chose Tristan, what dance will we see

Kelly and Val chose Louis, three glide across the floor
Emmitt and Cheryl chose Kym, could not ask for more

Apolo and Karina chose Sasha from the dancing troupe
Melissa and Tony chose Henry, oh wow, what a group

Gilles and Peta chose Chelsie to help their dancing cause
Shawn and Derek chose Mark, to the ballroom’s applause

The deck was stacked, Ballroom Shuffle blazed the trail
Next Monday night the All-Stars will return without fail!

THE BALLROOM SHUFFLE PROVED A ROUSING SUCCESS!
NEXT WEEK THREE WILL DANCE, WE EXPECT NOTHING LESS!

Too fun, Lois! THANKS so much!!! And now between you, comments in other posts, and a tweet from reader Jimmboe Tuesday night has us wondering what your overall thoughts were on the “Dance Fusion”? Would you all like to see the Dance Fusion make a reappearance in the future on Dancing With The Stars? Lets get some numbers. Take our new Poll below and let us know what you think in comments too if interested….

I’m voting “No”. The Dance Fusion was ok for something different, but, I really like just watching the couples just dancing to one style of dance. I wouldn’t want to see the Dance Fusion become a seasonal thing.

DWTS 15, Week 6 – The Cheesecake Awards!!

Heidi: We’re a bit short on awards this week. I mean, we could go on and on about Taylor Swift and Brooke, but that gets a bit redundant after a while. 🙂

Biggest Disconnect Between Dancers & Music: The troupe’s opening performance to Little Big Town

Courtney: So what do you get when you take three Aussies, a Russian mail order bride, a Dane, and a Brit, dress them up in cowpoke gear, and make them dance to a song about a type of boat pretty exclusive to the States? A rather confused performance.  😛 I can only imagine what kind of questions got tossed around backstage after this wonder…perhaps Oksana asking “What is pontoon? Is like U-boat?”

Heidi: I think their mojo was off. Mail Order Bride’s hair was all crimped and curled and very unlethal. It’s like Sampson after a haircut. I think I’ve explained this before. 🙂

The Award for Best, Unintentionally Filthy Dialogue: Shawn Johnson, Melissa Rycroft and Derek Hough for their “They’re cute” and “They’re Big” Discussion in the Behind-the-Scenes Video Tape

Heidi: That whole conversation was cracking me up. I have this vision of the producers seeing that footage and rolling on the floor laughing, while planning how they can air something that sounds dirty but isn’t. I’ve been of the opinion that Derek was crushing on Melissa back in her original season because of how he talked to her. And here he does a typical guy thing and Melissa? Hilarious. But the best bit was Shawn telling Melissa authoritatively that “they’re big” then reassuring Derek that they’re big. It’s okay, Derek, Melisssa called them cute. Not what you were going for, I know.  Um….what was the “they” that they were talking about again?? 😉

Courtney: Somehow I think Melissa has outgrown the whole “I must appeal to the male ego” phase that 20-something women go through, before figuring out that men need to get their balls busted every now & then in order to keep them in check 😛 Shawn? I think she just wants to protect everyone.  It’s actually kinda cute…both of them.  😛 Read more..

DWTS Season 15 Las Vegas Odds Going Into Week 7: What Do You Think?

Our apologies for being a little late with the Las Vegas Odds! For some reason, all the betting sites have been later than the norm posting them this week. Is this a sign the odds makers are overly undecided? 😯 I don’t know. None the less, below are Sports Bovada’s odds leading up to Week 7 of Dancing With The Stars. Note how the placements are the same, but, the numbers are tighter in some cases and/or the same or higher in others.

Shawn Johnson 10/11
Emmitt Smith 13/4
Gilles Marini 7/2
Apolo Anton Ono 9/1
Kelly Monaco 10/1
Melissa Rycroft 40/1
Kirstie Alley 66/1

Last week’s Las Vegas Odds going into Week 5 to compare:

Shawn Johnson 1/1
Emmitt Smith 7/2
Gilles Marini 9/2
Apolo Anton Ono 6/1
Kelly Monaco 10/1
Melissa Rycroft 33/1
Sabrina Bryan 50/1
Kirstie Alley 75/1

In my opinion, Apolo should be in second place (or even first?) and Emmitt in third. I don’t think Gilles is going to make the top three like many think. I mean…is his fan base really that big? My Dad (an avid fan to the show for about 4 or 5 years now) keeps asking me who Gilles, Melissa, and Kelly are and that to me is a little telling being he kept asking me who Sabrina was too and the next thing we know and regardless of scores and ability to dance, Sabrina is a goner. I also still think it’s a mistake to underestimate Kirstie in this competition. I wouldn’t be surprised to see her make it to atleast 4th place….that is, if she can still make some strong showings on the dance floor as she has the last couple of weeks.

Lets get Miss Heidi and Court’s thoughts on the new odds and be sure to let us know what you think too in comments….

Heidi: I just don’t get the Emmitt thing. I mean, he’s faded into the woodwork on this this show.  Are they basing their odds on how well football players have done in the past?? I agree with Vogue – I really think Apolo should be up at the top with Shawn. Of course, it’s my bias talking when I say I really want Gilles to be the next “shocking” elimination. 🙂 As for Shawn – she’s certainly capable of winning it, but I think it depends on if Len keeps it up with his games.  He did it with Nicole and it was very obvious as well – but I don’t think that Shawn can afford that sort of game playing in an all star season AND when they throw so many dances into one elimination, reducing the spread significantly.  This week is week 7. If history holds true, it’s week 8 when Len finally gives it up. I think he should give it up a bit earlier than normal, but the urge to make it a horse race is overwhelming.  Which brings us to Kirstie. Clearly the odds makers aren’t going on a week to week scoring basis because Kirstie is still in the bottom and Kelly is up there in 5th place. I don’t know – I think that (unfortunately)  the odds dudes have the bottom three correct, but I ‘m not sure that’s the order they should be in. I guess we’ll see.

Courtney: The Emmitt thing blows my mind – I get it, the guy is charming, but he’s also just been a relatively ho-hum dancer this season, who’s been ending up at the middle-to-lower end of the scoreboard pretty consistently.  He hasn’t done anything that has shown me that he’s suddenly a contender for the MBT.  And while the NFL fanbase is considerable, I don’t see it overtaking the Olympian fanbase.  And I’m not sure why Apolo’s odds dropped and Gilles’ rose, in a week where Apolo got a perfect score (and lavish praise from the judges) and Gilles performed a bizarre, androgynous dance that left the judges kind of puzzled.  Unless the oddsmakers are playing into the same fallacy that so many viewers seem to be playing into: that “in jeopardy” and “in the bottom 2” mean the same thing.  Couldn’t be further from the truth – for all we know, Apolo could have been the highest vote-getter last week, but hey, somebody’s got to be in jeopardy.  As for those hanging out at the bottom – I don’t think Kirstie’s going to get to the finale, or even the semifinals.  Sorry kids – but I don’t see her faring well in fusion dance, and I’m anticipating she’ll be first out in the marathon dance; as for next week – she’s likely going to end up with one of the waltzes (if it’s Viennese, she’s a goner, methinks) and the trio dance…and I’m not sure those dances really favor her, either.  Plus she’s the only contestant left that we know for sure has been in the bottom 2.  I think she’s probably going to be part of the week 8 double elim – and it’s going to be a toss-up on who joins her there.  Maybe Melissa, maybe Kelly, hopefully Gilles.  Lord knows how anyone else is faring in the votes.

Pro dancer Chelsie Hightower, who is from Utah, will also perform in the piece. The performance promises powerful choreography, a fusion of ballroom, hip-hop and contemporary dancing – and a look at what the future has in store!

Who’s ready? Bring this show on! 😀

ETA: Heidi here! Derek tweeted this picture of Derek, Mark and Chelsie with the Utah dancers.  Poor widdle Derek. 🙂 At least he still  has his sense of humor. 🙂

DWTS All Stars, Week 7 – Who’s Dancing What…and When??

Week 7 – another crazy week. Two dances, three dances, no elimination…what will they change next. Really, the changing of the game as we go has GOT to stop. It doesn’t really feel fair. I know, this show is never fair I should stop hoping for that. But…I am eternally optimistic, believe it or not. 🙂 I don’t know why Apolo is talking about three dances. No clue. And the Swing Marathon was added at the last minute to make up for no live elimination on Monday night. I don’t know what the story is there – would love to hear the real one because the one Tom gave was totally bogus. He got all shifty eyed AND the story didn’t make any sense.

It just occurred to me that Apolo could be talking about three dances because he’s looking at the fusion dance as TWO dances…which is really NOT a good sign. At all. It’s supposed to be *fusion*…not Cha Cha followed by Paso or whatever. And that leads me to realize another way some couples could/should get marked down, but probably won’t.

ETA1: Gilles just can’t wait to share, can he?? He must know we all wait with baited breath. :::rolls eyes:::

ETA2: Courtney tells me that she thinks Emmitt is the most screwed with his song. From the sound of it, his pro also rolls her eyes at fusion.

ETA3: Please take note of the footnote at the bottom. We’re not sure about the group dance song.

ETA4: Looks like Mark may well be dancing for Derek tomorrow, if Mark’s rather gloating tweet to a Derek fan is any indication. And Derek got his MRI back and the doc asked him if he’d been in numerous car accidents. Um, thanks Derek, I really didn’t need to hear that. 🙂 In other news, Emmitt is dancing second and Kelly has a song that rings no bells for me.

ETA5: I take it back, I do know Kelly’s song, now that I listen to it. I just didn’t recognize the artist’s name.

ETA6: I see Gilles is back in the latter half of the show. Too bad for him it’s right before the Marathon. Heh. Called Apolo’s dance order right before she posted it. Predictable, I guess.

Dancing With The Stars Make-Up Releases Behind The Scenes Photos For Season 15 Week 6

What a mean team of cow hands we have here, hmm? 😀 Dancing With The Stars Make-up has released some ‘behind the scenes’ shots of the cast from this past week. Above is Henry Byalikov, Sonny Peterson, Maksim and Val Chmerkovskiy, Emmitt Smith, and Tony Dovolani. You can see loads of more pics here of the rest of the cast. You can also read how they did some of the make-up on the girls which is always fascinating if you love make-up and the art of it. My only complaint, why don’t they ever have pictures of DEREK HOUGH ? 😕

Dancing With The Stars To Participate In Disney/ABC “DAY OF GIVING” To Help Hurricane Sandy Victims

This is really cool!! In an official announcement made today, Disney/ABC Television has announced plans to dedicate this coming Monday, November 5th, as a “DAY OF GIVING” across their news, daytime, syndication, primetime, and late night programming. “Good Morning America,” “LIVE with Kelly and Michael,” “The View,” “The Chew,” “Katie,” “Dancing With The Stars,” “World News with Diane Sawyer,” ABC Owned Stations & Local ABC Affiliates, “Nightline” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live” will all participate. The comprehensive response follows the Walt Disney Company’s $2 Million donation for relief and rebuilding efforts to help those impacted by Hurricane Sandy. You can read the official announcement at ABC News. Below are details for how each show (including Dancing With The Stars) is scheduled to help in encouraging viewers to donate. Please All, do what you can to help!!! Here is a direct link to the American Red Cross. Even if it’s the smallest amount, you can make a difference and help to comfort someone!!!

“Good Morning America” will start the “Day of Giving” by dedicating the entire 8:00 a.m. hour to raising money for Sandy Relief efforts. ABC News anchors, reporters and employees will band together to encourage people to donate to the American Red Cross.

The torch will pass to “LIVE with Kelly and Michael,” where the show will integrate “Day of Giving” messaging into their highly anticipated Halloween episode (which was moved due to the impact of the storm).

The ladies of “The View” will discuss the “Day of Giving” and encourage their audience to donate to the American Red Cross relief efforts, and “The Chew” will do the same.

“Katie,” which designated the entire hour on Wednesday, October 31 to Hurricane Sandy, will take up the mantle of the “Day of Giving” and engage her viewers in these relief efforts as well.

The ABC Owned Stations and local ABC affiliates will integrate “Day of Giving” messaging into their local news throughout the day, calling on their local communities to help those impacted by the storm.

“World News with Diane Sawyer” will participate with messaging around “Day of Giving” and the continuing impact of the storm.

“Dancing With The Stars” is planning to personalize sections of the live show Monday night with “Day of Giving” messaging.

“Nightline” will devote time to the “Day of Giving” and the impact of Hurricane Sandy, and “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” which has been airing from Brooklyn all this week and encouraging viewers to give to the Red Cross to help rebuild that impacted areas, will end the “Day of Giving” on Monday with special messaging and calls to action for his viewers.

Dancing With The Stars Season 15 Week 6 Post Elimination Interviews

Let’s get right to the post elimination interviews. Some of the couples opted not to get interviewed as you will soon see, but, here is what we have from On The Red Carpet….

Kelly and Val are so relieved they aren’t going home. They were nervous, but, they hope to keep justifying and supporting their fans since they are getting them through every week. They are excited to do the dance fusion and mix it up. They talk of how important the song selection is which they’d rather decide on versus the dance style.

Karina and Apolo talk of the scary elimination last night. They get harder and harder each week, but, they are happy and are on the “night train”. They got over their hurdle last week. They say song selection is important and they’d rather choose the song than deciding on the dance style. They goof around and tease each other at the end (if this isn’t a connection, I don’t know what is? They look very close! VERY CLOSE! 😀 ).

Gilles praises Sabrina and says she’s the best dancer to ever dance on Dancing With The Stars. Peta says the same and says Sabrina could be on the Troupe she is so good. They are a little nervous to dance and fuse together an Argentine Tango and Samba next week, but, they are excited. They are mixed on deciding on a dance style or a song. Peta stresses how important the song selection is and then Gilles agrees.

Kirstie and Maks are so happy and relieved to be coming back. She talks of how difficult the elimination is. They are all like “gladiators” waiting to get eaten by a lion (so true). As for next week, Kirstie is confused by the fusion and thinks it’s crazy. If it was a perfect world, Maks would pick a Rumba every week for a dance style. If everyone votes, they get to make out with Maks. They talk smack on Gilles. The interviewer has to get them back on topic. Crazy interview and hilarious as always. ADDING: Note how Kirstie mentions doing they are doing a Marathon dance too.

And below are the Access Hollywood interviews. Read more..

PureDWTS Season 15 Week 6 – Interviews After Monday Night’s Dances (Videos)

Well, I have to say I’m not usually fond of Country music or themes, but, between the couples and the producers, last night was a great mix without twanging it too much. Let’s get straight to the couples reactions with George Pennacchio of On The Red Carpet.

First up, Cheryl and Emmitt!! George praised Emmitt for charming everyone during his solo. He tried to take advantage of the moment. He also said dancing for the All Star season this is a bigger challenge than he thought, but, he loves it and wants to do the best he can. He wants to grow. Cheryl says they have to do the best they can and just relax and have a good time if they want to go farther. They also talk on Emmitt’s family and friends back east suffering from the hurricane.

George asks Tony about his wife and family back east in the middle of the hurricane. Tony is extremely worried. He talks of his Uncle and how everyone is staying with him. His Uncle bought a generator so they’d all be ok and they could still watch the show. Melissa says they met their goal last night with their dance and scores. They just hope they can still come back next week. They are worried on the elimination. At the end, Tony gets a little upset at George for saying he only got a 29 1/2 for Melissa and that he is pouring salt in the wound being he’s already upset (can’t say I blame Tony a bit). They hug at the end.

Karina and Apolo were much happier with last night’s dance and how it turned out. Apolo says he feels stronger and they are closer. Everything was worth it for what they went through. They also talked of how much their dance for those suffering from Cancer meant to each of them.

Kelly and Val know they have an uphill battle tonight with a “slight chance of showers”. George asks them if they are dating. They say they are technically married right now, but, they are not dating. They are having fun working together and they are both passionate which they hope shows in their dances. Val also talks of how his family is safe from the hurricane. He hopes there wasn’t any damages to their businesses because he heard they were under water.

DWTS All Stars, Week 5 – The Cheesecake Awards!!

Word to the wise: If you want to see something in the Cheesecake Awards, DON’T say so. Don’t tell us what you expect to see. Because if you do, we just might think it’s too obvious or decide that we don’t want anyone to expect anything – and not include it.

Just sayin’. 🙂  The Cheesecake is on the small side this week – we have discovered that most of the cheesy goodness is in a results show. 🙂

Beware: Heidi’s Mean Streak is wider than usual this week. 🙂

Tom Bergeron Line O’ the Night: “By the way, tonight Carrie Ann Plays the Iceberg” (ref. Titanic) in reference to her comments regarding Shawn and Derek’s supposed lift.

Heidi: That was very clever. I love me some Tom. Even CAI couldn’t help but laugh at herself after that one and Len loved it as well. How is he so quick?? I’d be standing there saying, “Bitch.”

Courtney: For someone that gets all OTT in her praise like CAI often does, she’s also a colossal buzzkill – and nothing says buzzkill like a humongous ocean liner getting obliterated by an iceberg.  And Carrie Ann, like an iceberg, is chilly, jagged, and is useless as a judge on a reality tv dancing show 🙂 Read more..
