Dancing With The Stars Sharna Burgess Gears Us Up For Ballroom With A Twist In Cheyenne, Wyoming

Wyoming News interviewed Dancing With The Stars Sharna Burgess about the “Ballroom With A twist” show coming up in Cheyenne, Wyoming February 1st. She talks of why the show is a “beautiful experience” for how unique it is for fans and herself. Below is more. Be sure to read more at the link. Also, if you haven’t read our new interview with Gleb Savchenko, be sure you do as he talks a little on the show as well other fun things in getting to know him. Here’s to Saturday Night, Gleb and Sharna!!

“It is a beautiful experience to perform one night to a live audience. Once that show and that moment are over, it’s gone, and that makes it very special,” she said.

Burgess will be joined by fellow “Dancing With The Stars” coach Gleb Savchenko and an all-star cast that includes performers from “American Idol” and “So You Think You Can Dance.” It all comes together for a night of different styles and music that Burgess said gets everyone out of their seat.

“The show is so unique. It brings competitive pros from all over and mixes them up. We perform everything from hip-hop to waltzes, samba and contemporary,” she said.

Burgess is originally from Australia but was working on Broadway before being discovered by “Dancing With the Stars.” An accomplished choreographer, she appeared on the series twice, first with comedian Andy Dick and later with former NFL wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson.

Burgess will be performing two solo numbers as well as a few with a group during the show.

She said she was looking forward to dancing with other professionals who loved the craft as much as she does. She said it was a whole new set of challenges and excitement from her role on TV.

“We did judge dance numbers, which were great, and I love teaching, whether that is celebrities or anyone else,” she said. “But I know the cast on this tour really well, and I can’t wait to get out there with them.”

In addition to the professional dance numbers, Burgess said there would be audience participation sections as well.

“We go around and talk with people and call them up on stage, but even if that doesn’t happen for you, I bet you are going to be dancing in your seat along with us,” she said.

DWTS Emma Slater And Tristan MacManus Dish On Ballroom With A Twist In New Interview

The Reporter Herald interview Dancing With The Stars Tristan MacManus and Emma Slater about their upcoming shows for “Ballroom With A Twist. Below are a couple of up-close and personal takes which describe the show. Too fun….

Visiting by email from a cruise ship, where they are performing, Slater and MacManus shared their thoughts about the upcoming show.

“This is not my first time with ‘Ballroom with a Twist’,” said Slater. “Both Tristan and I have been a part of this fabulous show in the past. It’s wonderful fun, and I love being involved.”

“The talent in the show is mind-blowing, whether it’s the singing or the dancing,” said MacManus. “We have both singers and dancers who rotate in and out for different shows. The energy is always high, and the experience is always different for us, as well as the audience, which is great for keeping the show and the numbers fresh.”

“Ballroom with a Twist” promises something for every lover of dance from jazz to hip-hop, contemporary to ballroom, along with powerful vocals. “My favorite number from the show is called ‘Gravity,'” shared Slater. “Three of the amazing ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ finalists dance together in a beautiful contemporary piece. It’s unbelievable, they are so talented.

“There is also a number sung beautifully by our male vocalist, while a very talented young chap spins on his head! Crazy.”

During the evening, a few audience members will be asked to join the dancers onstage. Those in the audience can dance along as well. “It’s a great interaction between the audience and the cast,” shared Slater.

Both MacManus and Slater come from across the Atlantic. MacManus began dancing in his hometown of Bray, County Wicklow in Ireland, while Slater is from Tamworth in England. “I do absolutely love being here in the U.S. — the weather and opportunity among other things,” said Slater.

She hopes those watching “Ballroom with a Twist” will “enjoy watching dynamic dance live and up close (not possible on TV) and really be inspired to dance at home.”

“People want to come to a show, see something they haven’t before, feel involved and then go home smiling,” said MacManus. “There is nothing better then the next few days after seeing something and still thinking about it and smiling, and for me, that’s what ‘Ballroom with a Twist’ does.”

A Ballroom With A Twist Review From The San Diego Show With Mark Ballas And Peta Murgatroyd

ExperiencedSD wrote a fun review on the Ballroom With A Twist show that took place in San Diego last weekend. This is a must read…especially if you plan to attend one of the Ballroom With A Twist shows. Below is a take about the “question and answer” part of the show. Check out what Mark said about Maks. lol Hilarious!!

In the middle of the show, there was a Q&A session with Peta and Mark. It was an open session and anyone in the crowd could ask any question they want. We learned that in Dancing with the Stars, the dancers are paired to their celebrity by height or by personality (which is sometimes usually clashing). We also learned from Mark Ballas that Maks Chmerkovskiy can be as Mark describes it, “pranky,” that in the Mark’s first appearance at DWTS, Maks cup-checked him!

More at ExperiencedSD including pictures of Mark and Peta!!

Producer Scott Stander And DWTS Cheryl Burke Talk About Ballroom With A Twist

Who is planning to see “Ballroom With A Twist”? Producer Scott Stander told PureDWTS that we will see “a very special show as we have a few people in covering for some cast members. We are doing a performance in San Francisco with Val Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd. So a lot of surprises.” Surprises indeed. I can’t. I plan to see the Wyoming show. If you haven’t got tickets to a show in your area, see this link as they are travelling all over the country. Scott along with Cheryl Burke also talked with Delaware Online. Below is a take from the article on the show….

“Ballroom” has “kind of evolved,” says producer Scott Stander from a concept that began with: What do you get when you combine three television reality shows? “You get ‘Ballroom With a Twist,’ ” he says.

This is the first time that Burke, a California native from the San Francisco area, will be on the “Ballroom” tour, although she remembers visiting Wilmington with the “Dancing With The Stars” tour a few years ago, but the show left after a night, she says. This time around, she’s looking forward to being in Delaware for a week.

“I have no idea what to expect on the show,” Burke says, “But I know I’ll be dancing with Tony Dovolani, Derek Hough and Peta Murgatroyd. A lot of my friends are part of ‘Ballroom with a Twist,’ and have been for the last few years. I’m excited to be able to dance in front of live people and just have a good time. For me, when it comes to dancing, it’s always better to perform in a more intimate setting like a theater.”

Dancing in a big arena requires big performances, she says. But dancing in a theater allows the audience to see the interplay between the dancers and appreciate the emotion and subtle moves.

This show will start with a Broadway-style number. During the night, fans will see dances that include samba, waltzes, foxtrots, quickstep and jive.

“If you’re a fan of these shows, you’ll be tickled pink,” Stander says. “If you’ve never watched the shows, you will end up a fan of those shows because of the amazing talent on the stage. What they do with their bodies is amazing. Dancing is all different these days, very athletic.”

The show will a question-and-answer session with the stars.

“I do expect to be getting a lot of questions,” says Burke, who has been on “Dancing With The Stars” for 15 seasons. The questions always include things like whether they pick their own partners, how much work they do and who their favorite partners were. (Jack Osbourne and Emmett Smith were two of them).

“Ballroom With a Twist” is designed to be the kind of show you can bring kids to, or you can bring grandma, and they’ll all have a good time, Stander says.

“You’ll see flashy costumes, you’ll see some great production numbers and some great singing,” he says. “The audience will get up and have a good time and dance.” One of the numbers is a Cirque du Soleil-style number featuring Cirque performer Eric Newton to soaring vocals.

Peta Murgatroyd Talks About “Ballroom With A Twist” And Dancing With The Stars

Let the “Ballroom With A Twist” news begin! If you visit the Delco Times, you can read a nice little lead up to the show from Peta Murgatroyd. She also discusses how her dancing dreams came true and what it’s like working on Dancing With The Stars. The pic above below is of she and Mark Ballas at rehearsals for Ballroom With A Twist this past weekend in San Diego courtesy of Mark. Note: If you go to any of the “Ballroom With A Twist” shows coming up and would like to write a guest blog, send pics, or videos, write to us here or at Pere Derek Hough by using our Contact forms or dm us at twitter. We appreciate anything you’d like to send us and would love to feature it.

Murgatroyd, speaking by telephone from San Diego, said she usually takes a break after a “Dancing with the Stars” season, but that “Ballroom with a Twist” provided a chance for fun she could not resist.

“I love to work, and I love travel. This show allows me to do both.

Murgatroyd also said she loves working in live theater. She earned her job as one of the professional dancers on “Dancing with the Stars” after a producer saw her in the ballroom dance show, “Burn the Floor,” on Broadway.

“Broadway had always been my dream,” Murgatroyd said. “From the time I started dancing, and that was at the age of 4, I wanted to be in a Broadway show. Coming to New York in ‘Burn the Floor’ was particularly amazing because the show was so well-received, and I had the sequence where I danced blindfolded in ‘Weatherstorm.’

“My dream came true when I was in my early 20s,” Murgatroyd continued. “I wondered what could top the experience of being on Broadway and being praised for my work in New York. Then, ‘Dancing with the Stars’ came along. I was offered a contract and did not have to audition. The work would be a challenge. I’m not sure that the general public knows it, but the professional dancers are responsible for every aspect of the performances they do with their partners.

“We not only choreograph each dance, but we select the music and design the set and costumes. We can talk to the wardrobe department to get help with our ideas, but when it comes to the music and the dance, outside help is against the rules. Every Tuesday, you wake up with that wonderful but daunting feeling that you have to start all over again thinking of your partner, conceiving a dance, and working out the sound and look you want.
