DWTS Season 17, Week 3 – Who’s Dancing What…and When??

Well, it’s Hollywood Week, kids and that means we have to have a bazillion different dance styles! Heaven forbid we actually compare the dancers to each other. The pairs of couples that do have the same dances are rather interesting, though. Leah and Valerie?? Amber and Christina?? Brant and Corbin?? Nicole and Bill E?? Then we have Elizabeth all by herself on the foxtrot, which will likely be square in her wheelhouse. I expect 10’s on that one. That leaves us with the guy with the bad knee who has…JIVE. Yeah, there’s nothing funny at all about these dances. 🙂

Note: As usual, I have made a guess at the order. Camera blocking is back to its usual day, so maybe we’ll find out some of the dance order at some point today.

ETA1: So, Jack and Cheryl make it to later in the show. Not sure that means anything anymore, since there is no “last”, what with the elimination and all.

Amber and Derek – Charleston

Dancing With The Stars Season 17 Las Vegas Odds Going Into Week 3

Oh, I am in agony as I read the new odds at Sports Bovada!! 🙁 I wish Bill Engvall was not placed last. I also don’t like how low they are putting Valerie. And again, I am just not feeling it with Leah Remini. How she could be getting 12/1 odds to win this season is beyond me? Crazy! Oh well, I’m going to take comfort knowing the odds makers were wrong in their placings last week even though I’m agreeing with their top 6 this week.

Corbin Bleu 2/1
Amber Riley 7/2
Christina Milan 7/2
Elizabeth Berkley 13/2
Jack Osbourne 10/1
Brant Daugherty 12/1
Leah Remini 12/1
Snooki 12/1
Bill Nye 50/1
Valerie Harper 50/1
Bill Engvall 100/1

Below are last week’s odds:

Amber Riley 2/1
Corbin Bleu 3/1
Elizabeth Berkley 11/2
Christina Milan 7/1
Snooki 15/2
Jack Osbourne 10/1
Brant Daugherty 14/1
Leah Remini 14/1
Valerie Harper 20/1
Keyshawn Johnson 33/1
Bill Engvall 100/1
Bill Nye 100/1

Let’s see what Miss Heidi and Court think. Please let us know what you think too in comments.

Courtney: Not a whole lot to say, except that I think Christina & Elizabeth still might be a bit too high – just judging from chatter amongst fans, these seem to be two contestants that may not be making a strong connection with viewers.  Good dancers, sure – but I’m not sure they’re very memorable entertainers.  Getting a sort of Audrina Patridge vibe off of Christina in particular – and a bit of a Chynna Phillips vibe off of Elizabeth.  I think Valerie should maybe be a bit higher, too – I think her story will keep her around for awhile, possibly longer than Brant or even Jack.  Don’t know what to make of Leah – I can’t decide if she’s getting a ton of votes or just enough to stay.

Heidi: I think one of the Christina/Elizabeth combo will go far, but one will be a shocking elimination, possibly in week 4. I don’t think there’s room for both of them, but once one of them is eliminated, the other could go to the finals. I could be wrong – lots hinges on the scoring and how badly the judges want them to stay.  I also think that if Leah gets a crap score at some point and doesn’t have the protection she did last week, she could beat both those other ladies out the door. I’m seeing a lot of support for BOTH the Bills and now Brant and Peta are kissing in the parking lot, so some crazy women will fall for that and they’ll be fine. 🙂 For a while.  Basically, I think the top four are right, minus EITHER Liz or Christina – I think one of those ladies’ spots might be taken from them by….Snicole. 🙂

PureDWTS Season 17 Week 2 Poem – “A LATIN LALAPALOOZA!”

PureDWTS reader and guest blogger Lois is back with another one of her fun Dancing With The Stars poems. This time for Week 2 of Season 17! Enjoy and thanks Lois!

A LATIN LALAPALOOZA!

A LALAPALOOZA of Latin distinction in the ballroom Monday night
A sex-em-up, shimmy-em-up, shake-em-up show of sheer delight

The floor, the rafters, the crowd shaking along with each dancing step
Opening number resounded with spirit, with pizzazz, with lots of pep

Corbin and Karina, Amber and Derek, Bill and Emma rocked the Jive
Their sizzling, snapping, show stopping steps kept the crowd alive

Christina and Mark, Valerie and Tristan, Tyne and Bill did Paso Doble
Their intensity, their concentration of dance done their very own way

Leah and Tony, Elizabeth and Val. Keyshawn, Sharna Sambaed fine
Cheers from the crowd, applause from their peers, made them shine

Nicole and Sasha, Jack and Cheryl, Brant, Peta Rumbaed with steam
They exuded smoke and fire, their dancing moves nearly like a dream

At the end of this night, the climax was a heartbreaking elimination
Keyshawn and Sharna took their bows, they were a brief sensaation

There were surprises, quirky moves, A LATIN LALAPALOOZA galore
Our dancing appetitites looked over the menu for oh so much more

Next Monday night a new menu will be offered, we again will dine
We will feast on DANCING WITH THE STARS, a delicacy, mighty fine!

Dancing with the Stars Season 17, Week 2 – Dancing by the Numbers

So, I think we all know what happened this week, but let me spell it out anyway. The scores from weeks 1 and 2 were combined, then divided by the total points awarded to give each contestant a percentage. That percentage was  50% of the total. The votes after week 1 for each contestant were divided by the total votes and for their percentage, which was the other 50%. When you combined the two, the contestant with the lowest combined total goes home. Keyshawn was ranked lowest and was therefore eliminated.  How did the scores and percentages look when the two weeks were added together, you ask? See below.

Table 1

In a nutshell, Bill Nye got at least 7.7k more votes per million votes cast than Keyshawn, and Keyshawn could NOT get the 7.7k more votes per million votes cast that he needed to beat Bill E. But there’s something else interesting to note before we move on. Maybe it’s important and maybe it’s not. But look back at Table 1, above: note how my predictions on scores roll out. I did pretty well, getting it either exactly right or only off by 1 point on 7 of 12 couples. The next three couples I was off by 2 points. And only on two people, Leah and Snookie, was I off by three points or more. Is it a coincidence that the two people who I was way off on are the ones likely to be getting lesser votes (Leah) and more votes (Snookie)??  Leah was way overscored, IMO, and Snookie underscored. Do you think the votes they are getting, or not getting, have anything to do with this? Well, look at it this way. See Table 2, below. Read more..

DWTS Season 17 Week 2 Pictures “Behind The Scenes”, AfterBuzz Reviews The Night

Just a fun miscellaneous picture post. If you’d like to see some of the cast “behind the scenes” before last Monday’s show, see the Daily Mail. You can also see pics of Ozzy, Sharon, and Kelly Osbourne as well as Julianne Hough.

The Daily Mail also has a beautiful photo spread up of Brant Daugherty and Peta Murgatroyd taking a break in a park before dancing. You can also see them walking a little doggie. So cute!

Also, Henry Byalikov and Anna Trebunskaya join the AfterBuzz team to review Monday night’s dances. You can listen in below.

DWTS Bill Nye Waiting For Doctor’s Approval To Dance After Suffering From A Knee Injury Monday Night

According to E Online, Bill Nye may have to have knee surgery after an injury he suffered during Monday night’s dance on Dancing With The Stars. According to the instagram below, Bill has a partially torn ligament and is waiting for the doctor’s decision for what comes next. As of now, he and Tyne are still planning to dance a Jive this coming Monday night!

ETA: This morning on Good Morning America, Bill Nye reports how he was injured on Monday night and if he will dance this coming Monday night. The doctors don’t want him to dance and he and Tyne aren’t sure they will, but, Bill wants to try. At twitter, Bill reports this: “Dancers’ log: 2013.09,26 en route NY State to attend wedding. @TyneStecklein on board. Not sure if we can rehearse with 20% of quad tendon.” Not sure what that means, but, it sounds painful. Ouch!

PureDWTS Season 17, Week 2 – Power Rankings

I’m in a bit of a strange position this season – I find myself liking just about everyone, and I think it’s making it hard for me to predict who’s next on the chopping block 😛 I probably rewrote my list of rankings 4 times before deciding on this…and I’m not even 100% confident in this list! So take it with a grain of salt…because things are just kinda murky right now 😛

I think Keyshawn going home was for the best – I just don’t think he had the necessary time to devote to the show this season, and I wonder if things would have been different if he had been on the spring season instead of the fall one.  I do get the feeling now that he was really trying – but just wasn’t sure how to connect to the audience. Oh well – I wish him the best, and hope we still get to see Sharna from time to time this season. Glad I got to keep Bill E. though 🙂

1.) Corbin & Karina – A very cute, clean, energetic jive, made good by the fact that Corbin just seems so enthusiastic about every dance he does.  I thought the song was a little odd (an opinion shared by Chelsie, who also tweeted “weird song to jive to”), but the overall presentation & theme were cute – probably a good idea to play off of Corbin’s HSM background.  My only complaint? In an odd twist, Corbin actually actually seemed a bit too sharp on some of the flicks & kicks – I’m usually complaining about the celebs being a little lazy on their kicking & flicking, so this was actually a pleasant change of pace! Will be interesting to see how Corbin handles a ballroom dance next week – I’m wondering if he might be someone that just KILLS it in the Latin, but stumbles a bit in the ballroom.

2.) Amber & Derek – A bit of a backslide for these two this week, which I still partially blame on their overscoring last week.  While I wished Amber’s technique was a bit better in this jive (and that she had worn ballroom shoes, which probably would have helped her kick & flick more easily), once again she had great energy and really sold the performance – and she actually stayed pretty well on-time, which is more than I can say for some of the other couples tonight.  I have a feeling she & Corbin will be taking turns at the top from week to week, so it will be interesting to see who fares better with a ballroom dance – I have a feeling she’ll be doing ballroom as well next week.  Read more..

DWTS Season 17, Week 2 – Post Show Media Round Up!

Heidi here, Vogue is having some internet issues.  I’m starting this post, but odds are good that Vogue the Queen of all Media will do most of the updating. 🙂  I can’t find much (any) video at all right now – it’s like everyone took the night off after the Emmy…and they probably did.  First up, E! Goes behind the scenes with Leah Remini:

When we caught up with the contestants backstage after tonight’s performances, Remini exclusively told us that how happy she is to be a part of Dancing With the Star‘s 17th season. “The show has been a Godsend, and Tony has been a Godsend,” she smiled. “The cast and everybody has rallied around me. I have so many supporters I didn’t know I had and really the show has given me so much.”

Remini, who recently recently spoke with Ellen DeGeneres about her defection from the religion, admitted that her fellow contestants are helping to fill a void in her life. “I don’t feel like I lost friends, I actually lost friends.” Remini explained. “It sucks but at the same time it is what it is and we have to move on, but I feel like I have a lot of really good friends, a lot of new friends.”

Corbin blogs for Access Hollywood:

For me, it was still coming relatively close off of ‘High School Musical.’ … That’s the thing about the show, it’s a wonderful opportunity to promote and a wonderful opportunity to show people who you are. … I really wanted to be able to grow and just transform myself as an artist and as a person first. I wanted to be able to go off and do things like I did with Broadway and doing all these movies where I’m playing all these sort of crazy characters and being able to do the soap [‘One Life To Live’] — all these projects. I’m working as a producer and establishing my business.

The contestants on Julianne being a guest judge from Entertainmentwise (Derek says “She’s going to destroy us!”):

However Glee actress Amber gave a more positive outlook on Julianne’s arrival on the show when she commented: “I really want to impress Julianne because she is one of my favourite dancers and I love watching her dance.”

Appearing to side with Derek that Julianne may be tougher on Derek, Cheryl Burke mused: “She’s probably going to be harder on her brother I think than giving him praise and good scores.”

Claiming that Julianne will be good when it comes to her judging talent, professional dancer Karina Smirnoff commented: “I think she’s going to have a very down to earth relateable comments, marks and hopefully scores.”

However, the dancer appeared to hint that she hopes she won’t be seeing favourtism between Julianne and her brother. She said: “In professional ballroom world, you are not allowed to judge any competition if you have any family members in the competition but hey it’s a TV show and I love Jules.

“I’ve known her since since she was 10 so it’s all good.”

Citing Julianne’s arrival on the show as refreshing, Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi revealed her thoughts: “I’m very excited. she’s talented, amazing, gorgeous. I feel like she’s going to be a nice judge which is refreshing.”

ETA: Hi, Vogue here and I’m finally back. I haven’t had time to listen to everything but, On The Red Carpet has posted new interviews with the cast from after the show last night. You can listen to them all below…

DWTS Season 17, Week 2 – Let’s Recap Tonight’s Show!! (SPOILERS)

Well, we’re off to a great start with Elizabeth and Val, I think. Followed by Mark and Christina with a strong Paso Doble. All this unnatural gushing has me a bit worried, though. That, combined with the front loading of the show with great dancers. Hmmmm….what do you all think they are up to? I think Amber will get hammered and I think Bill Nye will get crucified. The former for “drama” the latter because they mistakenly believe that’s how to get rid of him. Nope. Dudes.

ETA: Bill E. getting hosed with dancing in the 3rd position. Good idea of “nicking” Derek’s stuff, though Emma. 🙂

ETA2: the Jeopardy Couples were: Elizabeth and Val, Bill and Emma, and Keyshawn and Sharna. Not necessarily the bottom two, the couple going home is Keyshawn and Sharna!!

Who thinks Elizabeth isn’t getting the votes she should be??

Bill Nye Science Guy

Jack and Cheryl

Bill Envall and Emma

Corbin and Karina
