PureDWTS Guest Poem For DWTS Season 17 Week 8 “A Superstar Cher-abration”

PureDWTS reader Lois writes another fantastic poem. This time it’s a salute to Cher and Dancing With The Stars. Thanks Lois!!! Perfect!

MY POEM FOR WEEK EIGHT

A SUPERSTAR CHER-ABRATION!

DANCING WITH THE STARS was A SUPERSTAR CHER-ABRATON
CHER was superlative in opening, the entire cast a bright sensation

CHER took the seat of royalty, the judges welcomed her in the fold
Cheers rang out in the ballroom, sounds of a SUPERSTAR to behold

The couples were as ready as they could be for SUPERSTAR CHER
A heightened sense of excitement permeated through the ballroom air

IF I COULD TURN BACK TIME showing Derek, Amber’s Rumba beat
Bill and Emma were STRONG ENOUGH, their Disco a rocking treat

I GOT YOU BABE, Tony, Leah told CHER’s story in Viennese Waltz
Jack and Cheryl Tangoed gloriously to THE BEAT GOES ON’s pulse

Elizabeth, Val were Jazzed by CHER’s SUPERSTAR hit BANG BANG
Corbin and Karina’s Argentine Tango had a juicy BURLESQUE tang

Brant, Peta Foxtrotted to CHER’s SHOOP SHOOP with tender care
There were duo challenges still to come filling up the ballroom air

Cha-Cha-Chas were mirrored by Corbin, Karina, Elizabeth and Val
Corbin and Karina were chosen by the judges to have better style

The duos chosen for the Rumbas were Brant, Peta, Leah and Tony
The judges raised their paddles declaring Leah, Tony one and only

The Disco beat went on with Bill and Emma, and Jack and Cheryl
The winners of the challenge Jack and Cheryl gave it the best whirl

SUPERSTAR CHER serenaded the ballroom again, her voice strong
The CHER-ABRATION continued, everyone kept the beat, sang along

The time came, the elimination announcement ready to be shared
Brant, Peta had to go home, the cast gathered, showed they cared

CHER took her bows at the end of a special mystical, magical night
A SUPERSTAR CHER-ABRATION was a CHER-ABRATION delight

What will we be treated with as Week 9 is coming, within our sight
We will welcome back another rousing show next Monday night!

Afterbuzz TV Breaks Down Dancing With The Stars Season 17 Week 8

AfterBuzz TV has released their post game wrap up for Dancing With The Stars Season 17 Week 8. Tyne Stecklein joins them this time. It’s interesting getting Tyne’s inside perspective about Cher since she’s worked for her in Las Vegas. Anna Trebunskaya also joins them again (who I’m seeing in a different light this season and it’s not a favorable one sad to say. I didn’t realize until this season that she had so many issues with Derek.) With that said, here ya go. Let us know what you think.

PureDWTS Season 17 Week 8 Post Media After The Dances Including Interviews With Cher And Chaz Bono

Hi Dancettes! So, far there isn’t much to share for new interviews with the cast of Dancing With The Stars after the show last night. Hopefully, as the day progresses more will come out. For now, head to Entertainment Weekly. They interviewed Corbin Bleu, Elizabeth Berkley & Val Chmerkovskiy, Derek Hough & Amber Riley, and Jack Osbourne & Cheryl Burke. They talked of the elimination and how “intense” and “dramatic” it was. Val thought he and Elizabeth were going home. Derek said it’s going to be sad to see anyone go home from this week on and he is right.

Below is Corbin and Karina chatting with Access Hollywood. They talk of the crazy night and the elimination….

Also, Chaz Bono and Cher talked with Access Hollywood. Chaz talks on losing 85 pounds. He feels like a completely new man. Cher talks of how she cried before the show for how nervous she was, but, she had so much judging. She also discusses when she first met Sonny at the coffee house. Awww moment.

Henry of PopTVDotCom also interviewed some of the cast after the show heading to Mixology. Note how Tom wants more guest judges such as his friend William Shatner. I hope they have more guest judges in the future too. It helps mix things up. What do you think?

ETA: On The Red Carpet have released their new interviews. You can watch them all at this link. Afterbuzz TV is also starting to release their new interviews here.

ETA2: Carrie Ann Inaba has written a new blog at Parade.com. I thought this bit was interesting about hot “the right couple always goes home”.

Let’s get back to the question at hand: Did the right couple go home? My answer is that it’s always the right couple. It sounds like a cop-out, but it’s true. The audience votes and we score. If the question is: “Is Brant Dougherty a better dancer than Bill Engvall?” The answer is a loud and resounding “Yes.” But our results have always been a combination of the judges’ scores and America’s votes. That’s much more interesting than just letting the judges call the score. Although right about now, a lot of people wish it were only the judges’ scores that counted. Our combined scoring method is what makes it so fun and so different. No other show has judges who actually give a numeric score. They usually give their opinions, but that’s it. Its part of what I think makes our show so fun, so I always respect the way it all turns out. I’m sad and sometimes shocked at the results, but I respect the way our show works.

ETA3: Sorry for the delay as I had to work today. I am just now getting caught up with the On The Red Carpet and Afterbuzz TV interviews. From these interviews, we find out some dance info for next week. Derek and Amber have the Salsa and the Quickstep. They have picked Mark for their trio dance. Jack and Cheryl have a Samba with Sharna and a V. Waltz. Bill and Emma have The Charleston for their individual dance. They don’t mention what is their trio dance, but, they have picked Peta for it. Corbin and Karina have picked Witney for their trio dance. Val and Elizabeth have picked Gleb. Leah and Tony have picked Henry. Be sure to take in all of these new interviews here and here. JC and George do a super job as always.

Bill Engvall Discusses His DWTS Journey, Feelings On Cher, New Disco Dance, And More

This is such a cool interview with Bill Engvall!! He tells TV Guide all about what his journey has been like so far on Dancing With The Stars and the biggest impact it’s had on him personally. Though last week it wasn’t easy seeing Snooki eliminated when he thought it should be himself. Below are his feelings about Cher judging this upcoming week and a take on he and Emma’s new individual dance. He’s a hoot! Check it out…

Yes! She’s the guest judge this week. How excited are you?
Engvall: That’s when I knew there’s a God. [Laughs] … I’ve been a fan of Cher since the Sonny & Cher show. I always thought she was one of the sexiest — I look at her and go, I could totally hang out with this lady. It’s just going to be a blast. I’m dancing to a Cher song, and she’s going to be 10 feet from me. … She’s on par with me, as far as a fantasy girl, with Farrah Fawcett in front of the Indian blanket.

Is there an added sense of pressure because she’s going to be judging you?Engvall: Pressure’s trying to save somebody’s life, or being in the military and you don’t know who’s shooting at you. That’s pressure. I’m dancing. [Laughs] I think at first there’ll be some nerves, but … I’m the regular guy that will walk up to you and go, ‘Hi Cher, I’m Bill Engvall. How’re you doing?’ I’ll be nervous meeting her, but it’ll be fun.

What are you working on for your individual dance?
Engvall: We’re doing disco, which I love. Of course, [Emma] wasn’t even born. She goes, ‘When you were in the disco, what was your move?’ I go, ‘My move?’ She goes, ‘Didn’t you have, like, a standard move? I go, ‘No. My only move was, how do I get this girl from the club back to my apartment?’ What’s funny is, we have gotten through this disco quicker than we’ve gotten through any dance. We actually have the dance down. Now it’s just cleaning it up.

DWTS Tom Bergeron And Lacey Schwimmer On Planes Grounded At LAX When TSA Shooting Happened

This is pretty scary! Apparently, Dancing With The Stars pro Lacey Schwimmer was on a plane grounded at LAX when the TSA shooting happened this morning. Thank goodness she is ok!!! Below is more from the Las Vegas Review Journal. ETA: Tom Bergeron had issues at the airport as well according to this tweet.

Schwimmer was on a Las Vegas-to-Los Angeles flight. All flights were canceled during the incident, which erupted about 9:20 a.m. at a TSA security checkpoint.

The Associated Press reports that a TSA agent was shot and killed and two more people were wounded. The shooting took place in the Tom Bradley Terminal.

Schwimmer’s first tweet read: “Landed at LAX to find out a shooting has happened here! Hope everyone is okay:/”

In her second tweet, she wrote: “LAX isn’t telling us much, for now I’m sitting in the plane on the Tarmac.”

An hour later she tweeted, “”Still on the Tarmac waiting at LAX.”

Cher “Excited” To Judge Dancing With The Stars, VOTE In New Poll On Her Judging Qualifications

So, last night, I attended a chat at Cher’s Facebook page. She didn’t answer my Dancing With The Stars question about what she’d most like to bring to the judges table Monday night, but, another fan asked if she was excited to judge and she commented back with, “I’m EXCITED I have no idea what it’s like to be a judge but I was just a mentor on the Voice. Chaz said that he would come and give me some pointers.”

Also, Today has posted an article about Cher judging Dancing With The Stars. They also polled their readers on whether or not she’s qualified to judge. We’ve been talking about this too in comments. So, now we thought it might be fun to get our own numbers in a POLL on this subject. VOTE and then us know how you voted in comments.

ETA: Cher is really nervous about judging and says she has no idea what she’s doing. Below is more from the Huffington Post….

“I don’t know anything about ballroom dancing,” she admitted on a conference call on Friday. “I don’t want to be responsible for someone getting a different mark than a professional would give them. I like to know what I’m doing and do it really well. In this instance I have no idea what I’m doing.”

Instead, Cher said she hopes she’ll be called upon to comment on the entire dances, not the technical aspects of routines. The pop icon said she’s been relying heavily on Chaz for his guidance. “He’s coming over tonight to give me tips,” she said. “He said, ‘Mom, you don’t understand how seriously people take this. I’m going to tutor you.’ Obviously I need all the help I can get.”

For a woman who seems absolutely fearless, Cher also admitted that she’s not interested in ever competing on the show: “I would be too frightened!” Instead, she’s content in cheering from the sidelines as a judge (with three different outfit changes in store). “This show is about overcoming your fear and going to a place you’ve never gone before. It takes sheer guts.”

According to Cher, not even decades of touring and performing have prepared her to judge the show. “We don’t grade in rock and roll.”

ETA2: Today interviewed Cher today! Check how the producers have given her a binder to study. Chaz is turoring her and she has three outfits picked out for the show. Be sure to take in the full interview at the link….

But she’s not going in without some help. Producers have provided the legendary singer with a binder complete with tons of info she’ll need to have in order to offer critiques.

“It’s a huge binder and it has everyone’s bios in it and it tells me what they’ve done so far and what they’re doing. And at the end there is something that looks like math, which is always scary to a dyslexic person,” she said. “I’m looking at it thinking, ‘Oh, my God, someone is going to have to get in here because all I can say is, ‘That was beautiful,’ or ‘You fell.’ Someone is going to have to do some cramming with me.”

That person may be her son, Chaz Bono, who competed in season 14. The gay rights advocate has already offered up his knowledge of the show to help prep his mom.

“He said, ‘Mom, you have no idea how serious people take this, so I’m going to tutor you,’” revealed Cher, who is welcoming all the assistance she can get. “I don’t like to do anything half way or in half measure.”

Some of the show’s pros told TODAY they were thrilled to have Cher judging their performances as a whole, given her sense of showmanship. And the Oscar- and Grammy-winner is looking forward to that aspect too.

“What I think they’re going to have me do is comment on what I thought about the entire (dance),” she told reporters. “Did I think something was beautiful? That, I can do in spades. I know what it’s like watching my dancers and I see amazing things that they do. But we don’t grade in rock ‘n’ roll!”

One thing Cher has in common with the show is fabulous costumes. When asked whether she already had her outfit picked out, she deadpanned, “What do you think?”

The star said she had three looks chosen, “(But) it won’t be all beaded (gowns) and stuff like that. That’s going to be well taken care of by everyone else there.”

Cher Interviewed On Judging And Performing On Dancing With The Stars, Career Tribute Planned

I’m so excited about Cher judging and performing on Dancing With The Stars. I’ve always loved her. As a kid growing up in the 70’s, I remember being so hooked on she and Sonny in their variety show together and then later The Cher Show (if you don’t think she can dance or knows something about dancing, do a You Tube search on both variety shows). Remember how she use to flip her hair? lol Anyway, People.com interviewed her about her judging and singing gig next week on Dancing With The Stars. Note too how the article says Dancing With The Stars will play tribute to her “decades-long” music career!

No one was more stunned than Cher when she recently found out Dancing with the Stars will pay tribute to her decades-long music career on the Nov. 4 show.

“It’s always strange when people do something like this. You’re not thinking about those kinds of things,” she tells PEOPLE. “It just always takes me by surprise. It just does.”

Cher will sing her hit “Believe” and her new song “Closer To The Truth” on the show, as well as serve as a guest judge, but won’t be dancing because of a foot injury she sustained years ago. “I am waiting to have an operation,” she says. “The doctor got a little crankier and said I have to do it.”

Even if she could dance today, you won’t find Cher dancing on DWTS as a contestant. “Aren’t I old enough now not to be a contestant anymore?” the singer, 67, says. “Haven’t I got past the contestant part?”

More at People.com . She discusses Chaz too and his dramatic weight loss!

ETA: Here is more info on Cher, the tribute, and the dances planned for next week.

ETA2: If you go to Entertainment Weekly, you can watch a video of some of the cast talking about Cher and how they feel about her being on the show next week. They are excited to say the least. lol

PureDWTS Exclusive! An Interview with Randall Christensen, Part II

Last week, we gave you part one of our exclusive interview with Randall Christensen, the costume designer for season 2-12 of DWTS.  Now read on for more insight from the man behind the costumes…as well as some exciting news! 😀

What are some of the shows that stood out for you the most when you costumed them, and why? (i.e. certain theme nights, specific seasons, finales, etc.)

Randall Christensen:  Movie/Broadway or TV night is always great fun.  We get to step out of character even more.  If you can dream it up, SOMEONE will wear it!  Themed nights are always fun.  Loved the Halloween show back several years ago.  Edyta as Morticia Addams (The Addams Family), Monique Coleman/Louis van Amstel in their “Ghostbusters” tear away coveralls, to “slime” green…..great fun!  Doing specific time periods are fun and challenging as well.  Doing a retro ‘50’s Paso Doble for Nicole Scherzinger was one of the most challenging, as the Paso Doble is so serious and passionate, yet the ‘50’s inspired song just didn’t go…..but Derek is a genius with choreography, and we came up with a fun yet strong look for them both.

If you could pick any of the pros, past or present, on the show to be your assistant, who would it be and why?

RC:  Hands down, Edyta Sliwinska would be a great co-designer.  She has such an eye for style!  Lacey Schwimmer has some really fun, “out there” and cutting edge ideas too.

What was the best part of your job on DWTS?

RC:  Hands down, the best part of my job was the trust of the producers, and being able to create with such freedom.  You just do NOT get that in the television industry, and that was the most rewarding thing I can imagine.  Weekly, the most rewarding part of my job was when Harold Wheeler and orchestra start playing the overture, there’s not a week that went by that I was ALWAYS there, with shivers running down my spine.  When those couples came down that stairway……truly a magical moment each and every week.  I never missed that descending down the stairs at the top of the show – NEVER! Ultrasound sales specialist by day, semi-knowledgeable DWTS fan by night...with a smattering of hair & makeup enthusiast, occasional model, baker, and crazy cat lady peppered in to make things REALLY interesting ;-) I might pee my pants in happiness if Donnie Wahlberg ever does DWTS - or if they ever use "Sunglasses at Night" as a paso doble.
