David Ross Talks On The Memories And Moments He’s Had On Dancing With The Stars

David Ross is never going to forget the the great memories and moments he’s had on Dancing With The Stars and he’ll never take them for granted. What a Guy! Here is more from the Chicago Sun Times.

“Baseball came naturally to me. It’s something I’ve been doing all my life,” the 40-year-old says. “This is so far outside my comfort zone. When you’re a professional athlete you pick up things pretty quick. But these [dance] steps are pretty frustrating all throughout the week. And you keep doing stuff over and over again and repeating those steps hoping you’ll get better. It’s extremely difficult and frustrating. … We’re learning two dances [a foxtrot to Michael Buble’s ‘You Make Me Feel So Young’ and a tango to Ed Sheeran’s ‘Castle on the Hill’], so it’s been six-and-a-half or seven-hour days, and it starts as soon as you’re done on Monday night; you’re right back [rehearsing] on Tuesday morning. And it’s all new choreography. It’s a lot of work physically, but you also learn a lot about yourself mentally.”

It’s that mental frustration that’s unlike anything he’s encountered in baseball, Ross admits.

“In baseball, you make an error, or you strike out, or you’re having a bad game, and it’s short. I messed up here, I let a ball get by there or I called the wrong pitch, and it’s short, it’s over. This [dancing] is extremely frustrating because it’s failure over and over and over again. [Laughing] Judging from the back of my baseball card I’ve had a lot of failure in my day. … But mentally it beats you down some days, and some weeks are tougher than others. I also think the song choice has a lot to do with it. If you enjoy the song or there’s meaning behind it, it’s easier to work through it. There’s only been one or two weeks where I haven’t really loved the song or felt a connection to the dance. [He says his recent paso doble was the most difficult.] … The payoff is on Mondays when you’ve nailed the dance. It’s memories I’ll never forget, just great moments I’ll never take for granted.”

New David Ross Interviews On His New Book, Dancing With The Stars, Parenting, And More

David Ross was on Good Morning America today. He talked on his new book and how excited he is to be in the semi-finals on Dancing With The Stars. He plans to dance for the rest of his life. So cute!

You can also read a fun interview at Parade. I love what David said on his kids and parenting. What a good Dad!

You look like you’re having fun.

For sure. I don’t take myself very seriously. I’m out to have a good time. And keeping with the theme of the last couple years of my career and some of my great teammates, like Ryan Dempster, that talked to me about enjoying the moment. This was definitely something way outside my box.

I also wanted to be an example for my kids (Landri, 7, Cole, 6, and Harper, 1). I’m always talking to my son especially, about doing stuff that you may not think you’re good at but you might enjoy. I wanted to put myself out there and show them Dad may fall flat on his face but he’s willing to try something he’s not good at in front of millions of people.

Do you think being on the show has made an impact on them?

I’m hoping so. That’s the thing with parenting. It’s so scary because you’re doing the best you can and trying to be the person that you want your kids to be and give them the values that you feel like are important. You don’t know how it’s gonna pay off.

A few weeks ago, I was getting ready to get voted off and my wife said my kids were so stressed. They didn’t want dad to get voted off.

Lots more at Parade.

Chicago Cub Manager Joe Maddon Makes DWTS Statement On David Ross

Chicago Cub manager Joe Maddon is so proud of David Ross for what’s he’s doing on Dancing With The Stars. See why below. I love this…

“It was great,” Maddon said Tuesday. “I’m so proud of him. We all should be proud of him. First, we talk about being uncomfortable. He’s got to be absolutely uncomfortable doing all of that.

“I’ve only known him for a couple years. I couldn’t be more proud of him. I think it’s awesome. Whatever he does after this experience, it’s only going to benefit that. I’m a big believer of all of that. The complementary effects of really reaching outside of your comfort area. Bully for him. He’s doing great.

Anybody who wants to be a hater on that one, please, try to do what he’s doing. It’s pretty spectacular.”

Well said! More at the Chicago Tribune.

David Ross Chats On DWTS, His Team Mates Support, And Lots More (New Interview, Photo)

The Chicago Tribune talked with Chicago Cub David Ross about Dancing With The Stars. David tells them he hadn’t been around his team mates in a while and all they wanted to do was talk about his dancing. Below is more and how David is working hard and having fun…

Ross and partner Lindsay Arnold are set to perform a jazz-style dance to 50 Cent’s “Candy Shop” as part of the ABC series’ Vegas night. The Cubs special assistant to baseball operations spoke to the Tribune about his time in the competition from Arizona, where he was visiting the team during spring training.

“I was in the dugout the other day, and they were asking me all about what’s it like,” Ross said. “It’s weird, I wanted to talk baseball — I hadn’t been around the guys in a long time — and they wanted to talk dancing.”

Ross said it’s “really great” that his teammates have supported him in the competition. The March 20 season premiere featured a live feed of pitcher Jake Arrieta and first baseman Anthony Rizzo sporting “Lady and the Gramp” shirts, a nod to the Ross and Arnold theme.

The 40-year-old, who is known as “Grandpa Rossy,” said his ankles, calves and feet are sore, but he’s lost a few pounds and his body is acclimating to the switch from ballpark to ballroom.

Ross and Arnold scored a 27 out of 40 on Monday’s episode after dancing the cha cha to Young MC’s “Bust a Move.” The judges praised Ross’ effort, but criticized his footwork.

“I don’t know whether the adrenaline got the most of me or I don’t know what my real deal was, but I think that the criticism is good. It’s warranted,” Ross said. “You know, I’m not a dancer, and I’m working hard to do the best I can and I’m having fun.”

That's right people……back up dancers! Who would have thought? #lifegoals #dwts

Lindsay Arnold Writes On DWTS Week 2, Can’t Wait To Show David Ross Doing Something New Next Week

Lindsay Arnold has written a new blog about Dancing With The Stars Week 2 and how they put their dance together last week. However, it was stressful at the beginning of their performance. From Hollywood Life….

I was so proud of David because he really handled it well and was really excited. He had a stressful thing at the beginning of the dance. He was sitting on camera at the start of our dance where nothing was happening. Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews messed up a cue and cut to David too early. They had to finish saying a few things that were on the screen, so they cut to him and the music wasn’t being cued. He was standing there for a few extra seconds. It was very weird for him, and I was sort of freaking out because he was all by himself and I couldn’t do anything, I just hoped that he waited to listen to the music. David handled it like a champ! I felt like he nailed the dance. I had so much fun and once again felt how much fun he was having in the routine. I don’t ever want him to walk away from a show night and regret something or feel like he didn’t have fun. That would be a loss me.

He was laughing, and I think he was a little shocked he was able to accomplish it. He stepped outside of his box and tried new things. We got good critiques. It’s always hard to get critiques; you want them to be helpful and constructive and they really were. The things they were saying were things that we know we need to work on. We’re going in the right direction.

After Chris went home, it made it even more real. David even said that it was finally setting in that this is a competition, and he’s a competitor. He wants to do well, he wants to win. I know he’s going to put in that work. Seeing someone going home really set reality in place for him. He really enjoys doing this, and I’m so happy because that’s the goal — take someone out of their comfort zone and have them really end up enjoying it and finding a new passion.

I can’t wait to show David doing something really new. He’s so willing to try to do what I ask of him which is hard to come by! I think it’s gonna be a good, fun week — you’re going to see a new side of David that no one has seen before!

I can’t wait too. More at Hollywood Life.

David Ross Wants To Be The Best Version He Can Be On Dancing With The Stars (New Interview, Fun Video)

Cubbies Crib interviewed David Ross this week about baseball, his new partnership with Raisin Bran, his retired life,…and yes Dancing with the Stars. More below for how he’s working his tail off and some nice words about his partner Lindsay Arnold. You can also watch a fun video with them below too.

After dipping his toes in the water on vacation with his family, Ross will take part in the upcoming Season 24 of Dancing with the Stars. He and his partner, Lindsay Arnold, will look to defy the odds and capture a Mirror Ball trophy.

When we spoke, he had just wrapped up rehearsal – which, he has learned, cannot be called ‘practice.’ Sore ankles, calves and feet notwithstanding, Ross says he’s looking forward to the opportunity and getting to learn from the experience.

The couple’s team name, Lady and the Gramp, was wildly popular on social media as the news broke last week. As competitive as Ross his, however, he says he’s motivated by more than winning this time around.

“I’m gonna try to be the best version of me I can be. That’s all I can control. I’m working my tail off. I’ve got a phenomenal coach. She is absolutely great. She pushes me, she doesn’t take any crap from me – little bitty fireball. I’m really having a good time with it, gonna enjoy it. I’m doing it for so many other reasons than just trying to win … doing it for myself, to challenge myself. A little bit of a distraction from baseball. I want to show my kids its OK to try something you’re not good at and who knows what might happen.”

More at Cubbies Crib.

ETA: You can listen to another interview at CBS Local.US Weekly has a great interview too.

And how do dance rehearsals stack up against baseball practice? “I’ve become big on eating breakfast,” Ross shares. “I’ve been filling up on a bowl of Raisin Bran Crunch Apple Strawberry because I’ve got to put a good nutritious breakfast in my body to start out the day. I go from breakfast to dropping off the kids at school to dancing for four hours! It’s very, very exhausting and you’re starving when you’re done.”

The dad of three, who plans to fly back and forth between Los Angeles and Florida during filming to stay connected to his family, says his kids are the biggest reason he signed up for the show. “When you do something like this, you’re putting yourself out there and challenging yourself,” says Ross. “I tell my kids all the time, when they’re scared to try something, ‘Look at dad! He’s trying something new.’

David Ross With His “Lesson Of The Day” For Dancing With The Stars And More

Cub’s David Ross wasn’t sure up until a few days ago whether he’d do Dancing With The Stars, but, then he decided to do something outside the box again like he’s been doing all year. More below from Spokesman.com. Rehearsal photo below too on his first lesson of the day (he has the perfect partner, doesn’t he?!).

“I still wasn’t sure up until a few days ago that I really wanted to do it,” he told the Associated Press in a phone interview, “because it’s something that makes me extremely nervous and uncomfortable. But I’ve done some things outside my box this year and I’ve had such a phenomenal year.”

“The love that I’ve received from my teammates and the fans of Chicago is just, all that put into one, I convinced myself to give it a try,” Ross said.

NL Most Valuable Player Kris Bryant is rooting for “Grandpa Rossy” – that’s the nickname the younger Cubs playfully gave him last year.

“I don’t know if he’s worked out all offseason,” a grinning Bryant said. “He looks the same to me, though. Obviously, he was showing his age here towards the end of the year here. But hopefully there is enough Tylenol or whatever to get him going.”

Lesson of the day……When all else fails, just dance!
