PureDWTS Season 18, Week 7 – The Team Dances REVEALED!!!

It’s been a long ass day and I need sleep, so I’m just gonna get right to it…your teams for next week’s team dances are:

Team Meryl: Meryl & Maks, Danica & Val, Amy & Derek, and Candace & Mark

Team Charlie: Charlie & Sharna, James & Peta, NeNe & Tony

Yes, I know – please take a moment to lift your jaw off the floor as I did when I first heard the teams. I assure you, there’s a perfectly rational explanation…and her name is Saint Meryl the Peacemaker. 🙂 Apparently Meryl won the coin toss and got to pick first – and the funny thing is, the pros did not have any say in who got picked for each team. Deep Throat insinuated that the pros may not have even been in the same room when the picking of the teams was happening…which I actually think is kind of cool. Kept some of the politics out of the team-picking. Anywho! Danica & Val were Meryl’s first pick, as that was who she “thought Maks would really want”. Then Charlie picked James & Peta (bromance!), and Meryl picked Amy & Derek. Charlie picked NeNe & Tony, and Meryl was left with Candace & Mark. Read more..

DWTS Season 18, Week 6 – Let’s Recap Tonight’s Show (Spoilers)

Anyone got an idea for a good drinking game? I have several… 🙂

Loved the opening number.

NeNe – that weren’t no Salsa.  And she’s safe. Now I’m scared.

Candace in jeopardy. I’m wondering if she can buy another week or if they’re just giving her fans huge hints to get voting and Drew’s on the block. I sure hope Amy is safe….

James knows he has to step it up. Took a bit too long to get the dance started. Lack of body content.  Huge break in hold. Pretty dangerous. Annnddd….Len doesn’t disappoint. There is some hope.

Ten bucks says the time wasting move of the week is Meryl taking off her coat. If I’m right, everyone DRINKS. 🙂

That was okay….but still all the walking. Congrats to Meryl anyway.

Abby lee Miller on this show is a disgrace. That is all.

So Candace and Danica are in jeopardy. Worried for Amy…but I wonder if Danica and Candace – the rivals – will be the last two standing.

And Sharna shows Maks how to put a lot of content in a dance. That was great. I love it. 🙂

And Charlie gets hosed once again. Seriously – what is up here. There is no way that Charlie was four points lower than Meryl. Is he killing it in votes or what??

Well, that was actually one of the kickiest and flickiest jives I’ve seen. Who was saying Amy couldn’t jive?? LOL – she did a great job. It’s about physics, people. She’s moving faster so it’s easier.

In the end, Drew has left the ballroom. He was my second choice, but I’m not surprised.

Dancing with the Stars Season 18, Week 5 – Dancing by the Numbers!

Well, this week is fairly simple. Drew has a tough row to hoe this week, with the biggest margins since week 2. And really, I don’t have too many complaints with the scores overall, as they rather reflect my feelings after my initial viewing of the show.  What I AM waiting for, is the hammer to fall on Maks and Meryl for the “messing about” that Maks puts in about 75% of his dances. It’s even more glaringly obvious after Val and Meryl’s Argentine Tango. Anyone else who had a ringer of that caliber (particularly Derek) would have gotten hosed by now for all the crap. But really, Derek has often gotten hosed for crap in dances that other couples get away with in the very same show. I’m looking at you, Tony, Val AND Maks.  Usually, this occurs when Derek has a really good partner.  Now, the shoe is on the other foot and we get nothing but praise for the golden couple. Oddly, Charlie is just as big a ringer and he is getting the ringer treatment. Seriously, 3 points deducted for dropping that cane? If ever there was a time that the judges should have gotten together and said “hey, killer routine, very difficult – a dropped cane is only worth one point.” But no, they couldn’t manage that.  Are they REALLY trying to manipulate the audience into thinking that Meryl should win?? Because you know, some of the audience resemble sheep – they want to vote for the perceived winner. This is a dangerous game, though, because the audience also likes an underdog – especially if one is as good a dancer with harder choreo than the golden girl.  It will be interesting to see how things continue to progress on this front. Red Foo To Guest Judge Next Week, Carrie Ann Inaba Writes On DWTS Week 5 And Defends Her Judging

Carrie Ann Inaba has penned a new blog at Parade. She was sad and shocked to see Cody Simpson and Witney Carson eliminated this week on Dancing With The Stars. She writes, “First of all, no one saw that coming. Cody has 6.5 million twitter followers. I thought for sure his fans would keep him in. Where were they for him when it mattered?” That’s what I wondered too!! She also defends how she judged Amy and Derek. I’ve heard both sides of the argument on this and I still believe Carrie Ann did the right thing and what she writes below seals if for me even more….

Amy Purdy and Derek Hough–when she dances, it’s hard not to notice the miracle that is happening. It really is incredible to see in person; it’s something that can’t be ignored. She is dancing without the bottom half of her legs, so there are some things she just can’t do. They have to find a new technique to make things work. I couldn’t take off for the lifts last night because she can’t feel if her feet are still on the ground like everyone else. Also, it is very hard for Amy to come down the stairs. I have noticed that they are always carrying her down the stairs, so I couldn’t take off for that lift either. I know some people are upset with me about this, but I have to live with my scores as well and I have to do what I believe in and I did not think that it’s fair to take off a point for something that she can’t feel. For anyone who can feel whether or not their feet are on the floor, I feel it is fair to take off a point because lifts in certain dances are just not allowed. But that is not the case here. Anyway, it was a beautiful performance and wouldn’t it be kind of cool if Disney did make their next princess someone like Amy?

Be sure her full blog at Parade. Note to how she mentions Red Foo from LMFAO is the guest judge next week which will be perfect for Party Anthem Week!

New Afterbuzz TV Episode For DWTS Season 18 Week 5

Below is the new Afterbuzz TV episode for Dancing With The Stars Season 18 Week 5. Kristyn was out of town on business last night (cries, miss you Kristyn!) so Suri ran the show. Julz Tocker and Anna Trebunskaya help her in breaking down the dances….and the judges too. Let us know what you think and if you agree with them on everything!

My thoughts for now (and maybe more later in comments): The more I listen to Anna talk, the more I’d like to see her be a guest judge on the show. However, I didn’t agree with her thoughts about Carrie Ann and how she didn’t call Derek and Amy for their lifts. I think Carrie Ann did the right thing. Afterall, and in the end, it’s not like she gave them a perfect score, did she?

PureDWTS Season 18, Week 5 – Power Rankings

Well Disney week went just as predicted, for the most part – overall, it was a pretty feel-good evening in terms of scores and critiques, (minus one or two puzzling comments here and there), and the rules seemed to be relaxed a bit; the animations dancing along the couples were not as intrusive as they were made to sound; Donny, of course, managed to make every critique all about himself instead of the dance he just saw; and Erin (who looked like she was going to the prom and her bff had done her hair & makeup and let her borrow a “super expensive” Claire’s rhinestone necklace) did not call a moratorium on obnoxious questions in honor of Disney week, and continues to bug.  The opener was probably the best we’ve seen so far this season – tons of fun and a good use of the Disney songs they were actually able to clear (more on that later).

So what did we learn tonight? That if you give the impression of not really caring about being on DWTS, then the audience won’t really care about voting for you.  Such is the case with Cody, our first “shocking” (but not really, when you think about it) elimination of the season – I think many of us had commented that he seemed rather blase about the whole experience, and just didn’t seem to be very invested or enthusiastic about learning the dances.  I know many had assumed that he was getting “tons of votes” from his teenybopper fans, but once again, I reiterate: it’s not how a small (but vocal) minority is voting; it’s how the main demographic (middle-aged women) is voting that will determine long-term success on DWTS.  I doubt Cody is too disappointed about getting sent home, though – his pride may be wounded, but I’m sure he will be right back to donning his genie pants and admiring his hair in the mirror while singing “Surfboard” to his supermodel girlfriend in no time.  😛 He got his exposure, he’s good to go – I just feel bad for Witney, who made a pretty damn good showing for her first outing as a pro and just suffered from having a partner that didn’t connect with viewers, despite her best efforts.  Thank god for the switch-up – I think her week with Drew was just a taste of what she’s capable of as a pro. She’s got a thumbs-up from me if they want to bring her back as a pro next sesaon! 😉

So now that we’re at the halfway point of the season, how are things looking, overall? Hate to say it, but I’m starting to get the William Levy-vibe from Meryl – somebody that the judges/PTB seem intent on jamming down my throat as the be-all, end-all, and someone who manages to avoid negative critiques altogether despite making technique mistakes that other couples get called out on in a heartbeat.  I’m also still not quite sure what the deal is with Charlie – the judges seem to be much harder on him than Meryl, despite him not really being inferior to her in terms of skill; can’t decide if they’re setting him up for more of a “journey” arc or what.  Danica seems like she  might still be in the mix as a potential contender, but the judges seem to run hot & cold on her; James, however, has solidified his position as this season’s “dark horse” in a BIG way – I would be nervous if my name were Meryl, Charlie, or Danica, because James is HUNGRY for that MBT. PureDWTS18 Week 5 Post Media And Interviews, Some Dances Revealed For Party Anthem Week

Wow, what a show last night from the graphics, the songs, the stories, the characters, and the dancing. We really have to commend the whole cast, the costume designers, the make up crew, and producers for everything put into this show. My Dad called right after the show and was going wild about it. *sigh an unforgettable evening for sure!!

So, for media starters and interviews after the show today, be sure to see ABC7. George Pennacchio has a great recap and some interviews. You can also view him interviewing the couples at On The Red Carpet as they uploaded some of their interviews in the night and they are excellent as always. Don’t miss them at this link and keep checking back for more. Below are a few of them. From these interviews so far, we learned that Maks & Meryl have a Tango next for Party Anthem Week. Val & Danica, Sharna & Charlie, Mark & Candace have a Cha Cha (more revealed as you scroll down).

You can also see some beautiful photos of the cast dancing at On The Red Carpet and the Daily Mail.

Also, JC Rubio (love him! He’s just as good as George!) interviewed the couples last night for Afterbuzz TV. Below is Amy & Derek and Maks & Meryl. Note how Derek & Amy have a Jive next. Read more..

DWTS Season 18, Week 5 – Let’s Recap Tonight’s Show (Spoilers)

I’m back in the saddle again…oh, wait, that’s not a Disney song. I have a feeling this damn music is going to be stuck in my head for DAYS. 🙂  Anyway, Heidi here, with the recap- as-I-feel-like-it method of blogging.

LOVED the opening number. Love. Made me happy.

Eight minutes into the show and we’ve already heard TWICE how Donny won. Once from him, once from either Erin or Tom.

I would have killed Len if he had picked on Drew for breaking hold. Pisses me OFF that their damn animation is probably dictating choreography.

Gee, Danica looked great in that preview for someone who isn’t a dancer. :::cough:::

Holy shit! Sorry john, but that’s all I can think of after Charlie’s dance. I’ll be pissed if he doesn’t get a ten or 3 – it was just a cane!

Danica’s dance was very cute! Yes, Len, she is a fantastic dance. She’s a ringer!

Okay, she was overscored, folks. Our news “story”.

I forgot to mention Cody in Jeopardy…if he’s safe tonight he will be for a while. Let’s talk riled Fanbase.

:::sob::: That was beautiful, Amy.

I really liked NeNe’s dance. Don’t know what to say about that package, but I guess Tony was honest.

I guess some fans don’t much care if they are perceived as soulless….I guess it’s good to have goals.

Wow. Great dance from James – first perfect score and he ain’t even the big ole ringer!

Meryl’s dance was well executed, but pretty uninspired compared to the rest of the dances of the night.

I wonder if NeNe’s going because they gave her such a great score.

So, Mark’s the crab? 🙂

Donny: “me me me me”

I was kind of hope they would call Candace safe right there. That would have made it exciting.

And that shocking elimination we were all wondering about? Well it happened tonight. Although it wasn’t really that shocking. I kind of wondered if Candace had a good voting Fanbase. And to all of you wondering about teenybopper fans and guys with huge Twitter following? There’s your answer.;
