Erin Andrews Interviewed About DWTS Replacement Rumors, The Switch Up Dance, And More

TV Guide intereviewed Erin Andrews about the rumors that the producers of Dancing With The Stars are thinking of replacing her. She immediately called producers and asked them about it. Below is what she tells TV Guide…

“I’ve got to be honest. … It kind of got me worried and scared,” Andrews told TVGuide.com last week, noting that she immediately called producers to do damage control. “I just went back and forth with the producers like, ‘Are we good here? Please tell me what I need to work on. Please tell me what I need to do. ‘And they’re like, ‘We couldn’t be happier.'”

And below are her thoughts about the Switch Up Dance, which celebs she’s the most impressed with so far, and the stiff competition….

Next week is the switch-up. As a former competitor, how would you have felt about switching partners?
Andrews: Oh, I wouldn’t have liked it, but I like that the show’s doing it. I think every little twist and turn they can add to the show and spice it up — it’s been on for 18 seasons, so you’ve got to do something to keep it new and fresh. But I wouldn’t have liked it. You get in such a comfort zone with your pro dancer, and you know they know your weaknesses and your strengths. Somebody like Amy, who has been obviously going through so much with Derek [Hough], and Derek really seems to understand her. Not that the other pro dancers wouldn’t, but it gets you out of your comfort zone. You’re already out of your comfort zone doing ballroom dancing in front of millions of people on prime-time television, so it just adds one more element of like, oh God, what am I doing here?

Which celebs have you been most impressed with this season?
Andrews: Well, I think right off the bat most impressed and most surprised would be Amy. I don’t think any of us really knew what to expect. And to say that we’ve all been moved to tears pretty much every week is an understatement. … You know, she was already a very inspiring person, but [Derek’s] just kind of peeling off these layers for her and showing her, and showing all of us, what is possible, and that’s so special. And I just get choked up every single time I think about it, because I’m so proud of her and I don’t even really know her very well. I’m so thankful somebody like her is showing really all her strengths. You would think they would be weaknesses, and they’re not. Danica [McKellar] has been unbelievable. She’s really talented. And I think Candace [Cameron Bure] too. A lot has to be said about somebody who hasn’t taken a dance class before. Mark is a very talented and special choreographer, and he’s really playing to her strengths and I think that’s very cool to see as well. [Charlie White’s] personality is really starting to come out. I saw it especially last week. He’s so sweet. … And Meryl [Davis], I think she’s like a Disney princess. She’s just so graceful and so gorgeous, and I’m so glad she was paired with Maksim [Chmerkovskiy] for so many reasons. I’ve really enjoyed both of them.

It seems like the competition is especially stiff this season.
Andrews: My mom said that the other night. My mom watches the show, she loves the show. … I think with my year, you could kind of see that Nicole Scherzinger, was going to blow everybody out of the water. But this year, the competition [is fierce], and the stories behind it — and that’s exactly what the show wanted and needed. It’s been a really fun journey.

Dancing With The Stars Season 18 Week 4 Las Vegas Odds To Win

Last week, Sports Bovada didn’t post their new odds for Dancing With The Stars, so that’s why you didn’t see us post on them. However, they have posted a new set of odds for Dancing With The Stars Week 4! Note how tight they are to previous seasons at this time which is a credit to this cast of dancers. Also, note how Amy Purdy moved up to second place ahead of Charlie White!! After she and Derek’s dance this past week, it’s no wonder…

Meryl Davis 7/4
Amy Purdy 5/2
Charlie White 3/1
James Maslow 10/1
Danica McKellar 10/1
Candace Cameron Bure 15/1
Cody Simpson 20/1
NeNe Leakes 25/1
Drew Carey 33/1

Odds two weeks ago:

Charlie White 5/2
Meryl Davis 5/2
Amy Purdy 4/1
Candace Cameron Bure 11/2
Danica McKellar 15/2
James Maslow 10/1
Cody Simpson 20/1
Drew Carey 25/1
NeNe Leakes 25/1
Sean Avery 33/1
Billy Dee Williams 100/1
Diana Nyad 100/1

So, what do you think? Do the odds makers have it right this week? I think they do with an exception to Nene, Drew, and Cody. I think Nene should be in last place. I think Candace should be lowered to next to last with Drew and Cody in the middle of the pack. Other than that, they have it about right.

Court and Heidi, what do you think?

Courtney: *shrug* Do the odds really even matter anymore, with all of the shady business going on behind the scenes? I feel like I’m betting on a fixed boxing match.  I guess I understand why Meryl is at the top – seems like she’s being set up as the golden girl now, after a few weeks of Charlie actually being the golden boy.  Do I think she’ll actually win? Hell no.  Mark my words, the “setting up” will backfire.  Glad to see Amy moving up; looks like everyone else is kind of staying the same.  I would put NeNe before Drew, though – I doubt the Real Housewives fanbase is going to carry her a whole lot further, past switch week.

Heidi: I’m kinda with Courtney. And I think Charlie will end up winning in the end. I think we’re going to get to some dances that Amy may struggle with and I think Meryl will come off too much like a sure thing and it will backfire. People do like an underdog and they’re the ones putting Charlie there – really, he talks in his package about how it’s nice to be at the top of the leaderboard and then he’s underscored to make sure he’s lower than Meryl? That’s not at all transparent!! If they don’t hose Meryl but good a couple times, or at least get real with Maks on not upping the choreo, I think she’ll lose.  They had her 3 points ahead of the next couples – bad idea.  I do agree that Drew will last longer than NeNe – he just has a larger fanbase and unless they start overscoring her and underscoring him, I think he outlasts her.  I do wonder if we’re going to see a “shocking” elimination of either Candice or Danica – Candace because she’s not dancing that well and is kind of in the background (note they didn’t even really show her Full House cast in the audience) or Danica because Maks is back and any cross over voting Val might have benefited from in the past is going all to Maks to help him win. And if not….well, that supports my Meryl isn’t going to win wager. 🙂  If not one of the women, possibly either Cody or James and I’m leaning toward Cody right now because James is making a strong showing.

Cody Simpson Talks About The Switch Up Dance On DWTS, Learning The Fox Trot, And More (Video)

If you go to Veria.com, you can watch Cody Simpson on Veria Living Live talking about Dancing With The Stars and the Switch Up dance. Below is a quote for what he says about it. Note how he’s currently learning the “Fox trot”. More at the link!

“I actually just met my new partner, which is a secret until Monday, but it’s different!” the singer said in an interview on Veria Living Live. “I’ve just become so used to having Witney [Carson] as my partner, and we’re both so young that we work very well together. So to have to switch it up just as you’re getting in the flow of things is a little different. But, it’ll be nice. I’m going into it with a positive attitude, like — hey, go away for a week, learn something new from someone else, and be able to bring it back to your original partner and hopefully be stronger than ever.”

Spoiler: If you’d like to know who Cody’s partner is for the switch up dance, see this post.

DWTS Season 18, Week 4: Who’s Dancing What…and With WHO?? (SPOILERS)

So, as I had predicted but had hoped to be wrong, the producers did what ever they wanted in terms of the pairings. They will find some way to explain it away, but there is video evidence that you could use twitter to vote (at the 4:14 mark) – so don’t buy that excuse. These are the pairings THEY wanted to see, so they made it happen. Also don’t buy the scheduling excuse – there is one change they could have made to not upset one of their “stars” but chose not to do it. But you know what? I’m pretty sure that it will turn out to be very interesting. And the potentially upset “star” in question ain’t so upset. Let me just say this:

Tony IS already upset. 😀

Karma is a bitch and this may not be the trainwreck they hoped for. Anyway, Courtney and I have lots of other little details and we’re hoping to find out more. For now, here are your new pairings (from what we understand, anyway) and a couple dances.

ETA: So, Danica and Maks are NOT getting along. Apparently, the old Maks (“Just do it”) is back.

ETA2: Apparently, Nene is surprised. In a good way. 🙂 And Courtney tells me that there are no duplicate dances this week. Every couple has a different dance.

ETA3: The number of question marks is directly proportional to how sure we are that someone has a given dance. Or is that directly DISproportional?? I’m tired. 🙂 Anyway, the more question marks it has, the less sure we are that that’s the  dance they have.  Three ??? means we arrived at them by process of elimination.  Also adding – Tony is apparently not mad at Derek but at the producers for the dance given to Derek and Nene.

ETA4: The rumba for Charlie appears to be confirmed.

ETA5: Apparently Meryl & Val ain’t getting along great, either – he seems a bit starstruck by her, but he also seems to have zero patience with her. Their routine is really, really fast and poor Meryl can’t seem to do anything right for him.

Charlie and Peta are getting along great and had their dance choreographed by Thursday so they’ve had lots of time to polish it.

According to our source, these are the dances. The couples that are doing well are Derek/Nene, Tony/Candace, Charlie/Peta and Drew/Witney. The couples that are struggling are Meryl/Val, Danica/Maks, Cody/Sharna and Amy/Mark. James/Cheryl are apparently neither good nor bad. Whether we see any of this will be very interesting. A bunch of people who change the voting rules when it’s time to count the votes isn’t above changing the narrative in the editing room, are they?? I expect we’ll see the opposite of what we’ve heard when it comes to Meryl and Charlie – and possibly Nene, mainly because they paired NeNe and Derek to see problems. Question is – did those couples doing well give them ANYTHING to use?? And did those couples doing poorly give them anything to make it look positive? I guess we find out tomorrow. 🙂

PureDWTS Season 18, Week 3 – Power Rankings

I apologize that this is so late – I got caught up figuring out the results of the hashtag tracking yesterday (which was pointless, it turns out) and just got burnt out and didn’t want to bombard everyone with these right after posting them.  So here they are now 🙂

“Most Memorable Year” week has never been my favorite, and I think Monday night was the weakest show they’ve had so far this season – just some very odd song choices (which makes me wonder if they were ASSIGNED certain songs, as opposed to actually picking them), some lackluster choreography, and some elimination fishiness.  Sad to see Billy Dee go, but if he really did have to withdraw due to injury (more on that in a post coming later tonight…), at least he got to leave on his own terms.  Then again, after some murmurings I’ve heard, I’m not so sure he left voluntarily…

1.) Amy & Derek – The bf came over after work to watch the Walking Dead season finale (since he doesn’t have cable), and he ended up rewatching DWTS with me afterward.  The only dance he asked to see a second time? This one.  🙂  He was fascinated by Amy’s “swimming legs” and how she was able to stay balanced on them so well, and how realistically they seemed to move.  We both loved the move where Derek pulled her through his legs and she did a sort of somersalt, and landed perfectly on her pointed toes – she looked like a ballerina on pointe.  Just a gorgeous routine that beautifully highlighted what Amy is capable of – I think she really won the night with this dance.  Thought it was underscored, though, and I’m wondering if they deliberately clustered the rest of the scores in order to allow Meryl & Maks to sit at the top, uncontested…makes for a better storyline next week, I guess. Afterbuzz And Paul Karmiryan Review DWTS18 Week 3: Do you agree or disagree?

Below is the new Afterbuzz Dancing With The Stars episode and it’s a great one at that again! This time their special guest is “So You Think You Can Dance’s” Paul Karmiryan! I’m excited on this guest as I saw him in “Ballroom With A Twist” in February and he was fantastic….full of lots of energy and passion. He totally captured my attention in dances like this….

*Awwww, memories and dreams true. Sharna, Gleb, Paul take me there again* Dies

Ok, so onto the new Afterbuzz episode. I agreed with them on everything except for Suri on Tony and NeNe. She says Tony has been working out and planned to take off his shirt. She thought it worked for the dance and liked Nene without shoes. Anna was dead on about Maks and Meryl’s dance too in my opinion. It seemed more like a Contemporary dance and he’s not challenging her enough. Lot’s more below. Let us know if you agree or disagree with them. I may have more thoughts in comments. Also, special thanks to Kristyn for mentioning us in her blog on our Switch Up research before she introduced the new Afterbuzz episode. She rocks! Court and Heidi may have more to report on that in this post too. xxx

ABC Releases Details For Dancing With The Stars Season 18 Week 4

ABC MediaNet has released details on next week’s Dancing With The Stars. As previously reported, next week is the Switch Up dance. It won’t be until that time that the new couples will be revealed. Julianne Hough will be the guest judge. Also, for the first time, the Macy’s Stars of Dance will be back with “oversight” by Derek Hough!! NOTE: There is a lot of controversial talk on the Switch Up voting currently and whether our votes counted or not. For more, see this post for some news that came out last night.

ETA: According to this tweet by George Pennacchio, this is how the votes will go down for the next elimination to take place on April 14th…

OK #DWTS fans, the info you’ve been asking about: ABC says scores & votes from 3/31 & 4/7 will be combined to eliminate one couple on 4/14.

George also tweeted this about the viewer votings…

@jl2285 I’m confident producers went with the viewer votes. I say just enjoy the week ahead.

“Episode 1804” – The votes are in and for the first time ever celebrities will switch professional dance partners on “Dancing with the Stars,” MONDAY, APRIL 7 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. This past week, America was given the power to vote and change celebrity and professional dance pairings and now each star must face this new challenge. The new couples will be revealed live for the first time throughout the evening. The show will begin with an opening number featuring the entire cast followed by each celebrity tackling a new style of dance with their new partner. Additionally, two-time professional “Dancing with the Stars” champion, Julianne Hough, will return to guest judge for the second time alongside Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba.

“Macy’s Stars of Dance” returns for its first installment of the season with creative oversight by Emmy® Award-winning Choreographer and Pro Dancer, Derek Hough. The unique performance will showcase explosive choreography that blends Latin and contemporary dance styles and will feature both the Pro and Troupe dancers. The piece will also feature “So You Think You Can Dance” all-star Kathryn McCormick.
