Derek Hough Returns to DWTS for Season 17??

Among many, MANY other things the man has going on, apparently. According to the LA Times, hosting a TV show, producing two other TV shows and possibly writing a book aren’t enough things to keep Derek busy…he’s apparently coming back to DWTS. When you see who’s backing some of his gigs, you can maybe see why it’s beneficial. Gorgeous and a smart business man too – who knew?? 🙂

Be sure to read the whole article – it’s chock full of interesting info. An excerpt from the LA Times:

Hough is in talks with a major publisher for a book next year that he hopes will inspire people to realize their full potential. “The book is just my sharing my experiences and anecdotes,” he said.

The TV series, a book and this week’s performances aren’t all that is on his plate. Hough has various production deals in the works, including a scripted series that he and his sister, “DWTS” alum Julianne Hough, are producing for Starz and BBC Worldwide set in the world of competitive ballroom dancing in Blackpool, England.

“We are in the early stages,” Derek Hough said. “We found a writer and we’re very excited.”

He also is executive producer of a GSN pilot for a series called “Dance Rivals,” which revolves around two respected dance studios in Orem, Utah. And Hough hosts an upcoming ABC special, “Family Dance Off,” which featured six families putting on their dancing shoes and competing for prize money. “It’s a really feel-good show,” he said.

Of course, he’ll be back for the new season of “Dancing With the Stars,” which begins Sept. 16. This year, the series has eliminated the often snoozy Tuesday results show and will just air Monday evenings.

Get READY!! With this news, it’s almost time for Pro Watch!!

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Derek Hough Executive Produces “Dance Rivals” for GSN

Another series in development for Derek – I guess when we don’t see him it doesn’t mean he’s idle. 🙂  For those wondering, this appears to be a reality show and is NOT the same as “Blackpool” which is a scripted drama he’s doing with Julianne for Starz. Also, Derek commented in an interview recently that he and Julianne were working on a live Vegas show – but then he shut up real fast. 🙂  From Deadline:

ORIGINAL SERIES IN DEVELOPMENT
DANCE RIVALS
The hotbed of dancing in the United States can be found in an unlikely location. The population of Orem, Utah is only 84,000— yet one in 40 is a dancer. Several of Orem’s dancers have gone on to win regional, national and world championships. But succeeding in Orem isn’t easy. The city is home to two of the most elite dance studios in America, each owned by a fiercely competitive and hard-driving dance instructor. The studios are just a stone’s throw from one another…and the owners used to be partners! Needless to say, the rivalry between the dance studios and their owners is as fierce as the competition among the dancers. Each week, the studios participate in dance competitions and each week they fight for 1st and 2nd positions—always with the ultimate goal of triumphing over the other. DANCE RIVALS is produced by H2R Productions with Derek Hough, Christian Horner, Adam Rosenblatt and Jamie Rosenblatt serving as Executive Producers.
