PureDWTS DWTS Junior Pro Profile: Rylee Arnold

Age: 13
Height: 4’11”
Hometown: Provo, Utah
Home studio: VIBE
Dance style: cross-trained in ballroom, hip-hop, jazz, tap, contemporary, and gymnastics
How you might know her: She’s Lindsay’s youngest sister, and tried out for SYTYCD: The Next Generation (but didn’t make it to the live shows).
Other accolades: Placed 3rd in Under-10 Latin at the WDC World Championship in Paris in 2014.
Pro mentor: Lindsay Arnold
Celeb partner: Miles Brown

Rylee (and Brightyn!) talk SYTYCD: The Next Generation

Dancing some cha-cha with her competition partner, Daniel:

Doing hip-hop (with appearances by Brightyn & Hailey):

Doing some contemporary…

And the lovely Arnold ladies 🙂

Court’s thoughts: Rylee on her own is going to be staunch competition – like Lindsay, she’s cross-trained in just about every style, and she seems to excel in ALL of them. God bless VIBE and the cross-training they give their kids – all of their dancers are so well-rounded 🙂 But when you add Lindsay’s guidance and her choreography to the mix? Calling it now – barring any shenanigans (and there had better not be any, with these adorable smol pros that I already feel very protective of), we will see Rylee in the finals of DWTSJ. Like Lindsay, she has IT.

PureDWTS DWTS Junior, Season 1 – Let’s Talk About the Cast (So Far)

Because it was pointed out to me that the comments are no longer open on the original post (which is supposed to happen after a post is over a month old – a nice little feature John added to prevent trolls from stirring up trouble on old, dead posts), and the original post was getting kinda long, I figured I’d move everything to a new post so everyone can discuss the recent developments we’ve posted 🙂 I’m not going to copy/paste everything from the original post, so for other details beyond the cast, go here.  And if you want to be completely surprised by the cast when DWTSJ airs starting in September, PROCEED NO FURTHER – SPOILERS AHEAD!!! Dancing With The Stars Junior Pros And Mentors Spotted At The Studio – Photos

Check out Just Jared Jr. when you can. You can view some of the mentors for Dancing With The Stars Junior arriving at the studios. Hailey Bills and Brightyn Brems were also spotted at the studio. In case you don’t know yet, they are two of the Junior pros. All of them are all smiles and look ready to go. For more on everything we know on Dancing With The Stars Junior so far (which is breaking by the minute it seems! Good job, Court!), see and be watching this post for updates.

PureDWTS Junior, Season 1 – What We Know So Far, A Few Updates

Well shucks – I tweet about not hearing anything about DWTSJ, and suddenly they start confirming stuff the next day. As luck would have it, I actually did get to talk to Deep Throat a bit last night and this morning, and did manage to dig up a few more of the particulars. I will maintain this post with any other facts that come to light between now and the unofficial “preseason” (the pro and cast announcements, etc), so save it to your bookmarks 😉

Confirmed facts (either by media or our own sources – newest updates in red):

1.) It’s airing on Sundays from 8-9 PM. Confirmed on Twitter by Kristyn, as it’s listed in the ABC schedule; I generally think this is a good time slot, as the show won’t be in direct competition with AGT, SYTYCD, or WOD (which was my concern when I had initially heard it was to be a summer series). It might run into some competition once some of the regular season Sunday night heavy-hitters (The Walking Dead comes to mind) start back up, but for the most part, I don’t think it’s a doomed time slot.

2.) It will tape from July-August.

Given that they’re going to be dealing with a cast that’s under the age of 18, this will probably help get around some of the child labor laws, as well as keep production costs down.

3.) There will be 10 episodes total – some will be live, some will likely be ALL pre-taped.

DWTS Junior Season 1 Pro Auditions Currently Underway!!!

Just when I had convinced myself the DWTSJ had gotten put on the back burner for the foreseeable future, we get our first glimmer of hope that this show is actually going to happen at some point 😎 Sasha’s Instagram story today indicated that he and Emma were on-hand in L.A. for the DWTS Junior pro auditions – producer Adam was also on-hand.  The video is pretty brief, and there are literally TONS of kids crammed into the audition space, so I was having a hard time picking out familiar faces – but apparently Rylee Arnold (Lindsay’s younger sis) is there, and I think I might have seen Manny Castro (Ruby & D’Angelo’s dad, owner of Dancetown studio in Miami)…also wondering if the little boy to Emma’s left at the beginning might be Artyon from this past season of America’s Got Talent…has anyone else clocked any familiar faces? I’ll keep a running list towards the bottom of the post as we get confirmations of who was at auditions…

Confirmed as auditioning:

Rylee Arnold (Lindsay’s younger sister, VIBE-er)
Brighton Brems (friend of Rylee’s, also from VIBE)
Artyon Celestine (AGT season 12, IMMABEAST)
Hailey Bills (Jenna’s niece)
J.T. Church (SYTYCD: The Next Generation runner-up)
Bryten Belka (Center Stage Performing Arts)
Kamri Peterson (Center Stage)
Victoria Podakova (one of Karina’s students)
Elijiah Geolina (one of Karina’s students)
Marcelo Fitzgerald (Center Stage, Kamri’s Latin partner)
Anthony Tatoosi
Emily Tatoosi
Ceilidh McSeveny (Center Stage)
Easton Brotherson (another VIBE kid)
Makeila Lawrence
Emily Dobson
Daniel Novikov
Kirill Vassilenko

ABC Entertainment President Comments On The Future Of Dancing With The Stars Junior

Is Dancing With The Stars Junior going to happen in the future? According to ABC Entertainment President, Channing Dungey, it might still happen at some point. Here is more from TV Guide….

At the Television Critics Association winter press tour, TV Guide asked if the athletes edition would be replacing Dancing Junior. She said no, and that Dancing Junior will be hitting our screens at some point down the line; it was just a matter of casting and scheduling that lead to the switch.

“We were in the early stages of talent search for Dancing Junior and it wasn’t going to come together as quickly as we would have liked,” she said. “We’d been talking for awhile about trying to do an all-sports edition, but the problem is that athletes have such tight schedules it’s hard to do a whole 13-week run. This actually slotted in perfectly, so we’re going to try that and see how it goes.”

To read the full article, see TV Guide. I’m still not wild on this idea. What do you think? Let us know in comments.

PureDWTS Season 26: DWTS Junior Isn’t Happening, Abbreviated 4-Week Spinoff Instead

Just when I was beginning to get suspicious that we hadn’t heard anything definitive about DWTSJ yet, Tom dropped this tweet:

My thoughts? Given that nobody had heard a peep about DWTSJ since the initial announcement (including most of the crew, whose only indicator that things would be different was a memo sent out at the end of last season stating that they would be needed in the fall of 2017 for season 25, and the fall of 2018 for season 26), I’m guessing they just couldn’t pull together a whole new cast of celebs, pros, hosts, and judges quick enough for the spring season – or, somebody actually raised their hand and said “Guys, this idea’s a bit of a turd.” A 4-week, abbreviated season of DWTS sounds good to me – not sure people will bond with the cast quite as much as they do in a regular 10-week season, but I certainly welcome the break, as spring is when things kick up over at Pure World of Dance.

Part of me also wonders if the budget for American Idol has grown to such gargantuan proportions that they’re having to cut corners elsewhere – hence, a shortened, regular season of DWTS, where they can keep the same pros, hosts, and judges and probably mitigate costs better than undertaking a whole new revamp like DWTSJ.

Update: According to Tom, spring season isn’t regular DWTS – it’s a spinoff of sorts.  All I can think of when I think “DWTS Spin-off” was that gadawful Dance Wars show that Bruno & Carrie Ann put on during the writers’ strike back in 2008…

Peta Murgatroyd Attends “Kidnap” Premiere – Asked On DWTS, Rumors, And More

ET caught up with Peta Murgatroyd at the “Kidnap” premiere in Los Angeles, California. They ask her on Dancing With The Stars, if she and Maks Chmerkovksiy are returning (which she doesn’t know yet), and more. Aww, I love what she says on Baby Shai…

TV Critic Matt Roush Talks On The Future Of Dancing With The Stars

TV Insider talked with TV Critic Matt Roush. They asked him on how much dancing is on the horizon for Dancing With The Stars. Is it possible a Junior Spring edition won’t happen to make room for American Idol and instead be pushed up to Summer 2018? Read below for what he says. Note also that we may get more information during the TCA Summer Press Tour next week. Let us know what you think…

Question: I know Dancing With the Stars is scheduled to return this fall, but will there be a spring edition given American Idol (which I know will air on Sunday, but they may need Mondays for the result show) and DWTS Junior (do we know if this show will have same host and judges)? — Tom

Matt Roush: The new season of Dancing arrives a week before most of ABC’s other shows, on Sept. 18, but can’t really tell you much about its midseason prospects. ABC might enlighten us when the network steps up at the TCA press tour next week, because I bet there will be questions about how big a footprint the new American Idol is expected to have on the schedule in 2018. If it airs more than once a week, what other shows will have to take a hiatus? I also haven’t seen any updates regarding timing or personnel on the junior version of Dancing, the notion of which makes my skin crawl. Whether Junior gives Dancing a rest in the spring, or (a better thought) joins next summer’s rotation of disposable reality shows, remains to be announced.

PureDWTS Season 26 – Who Would You Like to See on DWTS Junior? Court Picks Pros & Celebs

So we’re still over 6 months away from the premiere of Dancing with the Stars Junior next spring, but given that any show with minors seems to take quite a bit more planning, I’m guessing the casting directors are already wheeling & dealing on who they want on the show – after all, they’re not just casting potential celebs, but pros too…and apparently a host, as well, as Tom has said he will not be hosting the spinoff. Alfonso, you still lurking around set? 😉 We need a host, bruh. My gut’s still telling me that Maks will somehow land on the judging panel, and I guess I can only hope that being a father himself with have softened him a bit…I don’t think I could bear a whole season of him being as big a jerk as he was guest judging switch week on DWTS.  And to kids, no less 😯

I had mixed feelings upon hearing about the spinoff – and if I’m being honest, my feelings are still pretty mixed – but at the very least, I think having a brand new set of pros, judges, and celebs (and perhaps a bit of a new format, to accommodate the unique nature of casting kids) might give me a bit of a reprieve from the manipulative grind of the regular DWTS. And the fact that all of the pros are gonna be brand new? Makes it hard for producers to play favorites 🙂 But I do worry about seeing young kids face rejection on national television, especially after seeing young kids cut on World of Dance this summer…I just hope the producers know they have to handle them far more gently than they do the adults on DWTS.

So all that being said – who do I want to see as pros and celebs on the show? Well, given that they haven’t really specified what the age range will be, I am gonna guess that anyone under the age of 18 is probably going to be eligible to be a pro or a celeb partner – similar to the competitive ballroom world, where 18 is more or less the cutoff for dancing in the youth division, and then they make you just start doing adult amateur events. Yes, I’m aware that Willow Shields was only 14 when she did the regular version of the show – but if we cut it off at 14, we actually lose some potentially good pro and celeb choices, and I don’t think the show is going to be able to afford to be THAT picky.  So 18’s my cut-off, and all of my picks won’t turn 18 during the airing of the show, either.  I was also realistic – I doubt we’re gonna see the children/siblings of any huge, A-list celebs on DWTSJ.  So yeah – no Jolie-Pitts and the like on this list.  I listed celebrity children that I think the show actually stands a chance of possibly getting.

I find myself caring more about the pros than the celebrity contestants (although there’s two celebs that I’ve already picked out pro partners for… 😉 ), but I had a good time compiling this list nonetheless.  Let me know what you think 😉 Read more..
