Below is a new poem by Lois for Monday night’s dances….

WEAVING A SPELLBINDING NIGHT OF DANCE

The ballroom was under a spell, woven with brilliance and light
WEAVING A SPELLBINDING NIGHT OF DANCE, glorious sight

Season 18 created many spells of grandeur, woven with the dance
Dynamic talents of dancing skills, displays of heart and romance

Four couples remained, each creating a magical, mystical spell
Who would weave their way, the final three, only time would tell

WEAVING THE DANCES – CREATING THE WEB!

A wondrous dance, gliding across the floor
Woven with classic, elegant, sweet steps
Lighthearted feel of the dance, a classy spell

Full on with gusto, a spell with funky fun
A shining moment, with rocking rhythm

Lyrical, ethereal, profound depths of dance
Flying high illustrating Amy’s amazing feats

Meryl Davis Interviewed About Winning Dancing With The Stars

Team USA has a wonderful interview with Meryl Davis where she talks about how it feels to win Dancing With The Stars. Below she talks about her favorite memory, who she will keep in touch with, and how she surprised herself. More at think including her thoughts on Maks, Amy, her favorite dances, and more.

What is your favorite memory from ā€œDancing with the Starsā€?

Definitely the people I met along the way. I certainly expected to enjoy the season, and I expected to learn a lot about dance and enjoy the television show experience. I met such amazing people, whether it was Maks or the other dancers on the show, who I truly feel like I learned a lot from as people. Iā€™m truly grateful for that part of the experience as well.

Which cast members do you think youā€™ll stay in touch with?

So many of them. I think thatā€™s part of what makes the experience so cool. The cast as a whole was so amazing. Getting to know so many of the dancers and getting to know so many other personalities was so cool for me that I think Iā€™m definitely coming away from the show with a lot of friends.

Have you surprised yourself with the heights you were able to achieve in ballroom dance?

Absolutely. I really wasnā€™t sure what to expect with my skills on the floor, but I definitely was proud. It didnā€™t come easily, so to be able to look back at some of the videos from the show and see where the work went, I definitely think I can be proud of the product.

Derek Hough’s Last Blog of DWTS Season 18

What an amazingly classy guy. From TV Guide:

I had a gut feeling that Maks and Meryl were going to take it, and I said that to Amy, so we knew. Based on the packages and the tone and the way they put everything together, I had a feeling they were winning. I think everyone did. I’m so happy for them. It was well-deserved. Meryl is a beast and was so consistent all season long. I couldn’t be happier for Maks. I told Maks the night before, “I’m genuinely really happy for you and would love to see you win.” Obviously, I would be happy to see Amy win because of what she represents, but knowing Maks for such a long time and him having been part of the show for so long, truthfully, it was nice to see him experience the show it was meant to be experienced. All season, in a way, was about Maks’ journey, which was wonderful to watch. Being a friend of his and seeing that was great.

I really loved our freestyle. That was such a culmination of Amy’s story this season. When I heard the music we were going to use, it was perfect for what it stood for. It was, “I dare you to love / I dare you to cry / I dare you to run / I dare you to try / I dare you to fall / and lay on the ground / I dare you to feel / I dare you to be here now.”

That’s exactly what this entire season has been about for Amy and me: not being afraid and really going for it. I wanted that last note we hit to be positive and a challenge, and to dare people to try and see what happens. That’s what Amy’s been saying by what she’s been doing on the show. Everybody asks me, “Where do you get all your ideas?” It really comes from the music. Whatever pops into my head when I’m listening to something is how it starts. I just envisioned Amy spinning in the air, ascending and being transcendent of dance. I looked into the rope thing and I asked my friend, “Hey, is this possible?” He was like, “Yeah, it’ll take a couple weeks to teach her that.” And I was like, “Well, we have an hour.” And it’s all back muscles, which was what she was having problems with, so it was wild to see her up there. It was just incredible. And for her to let go and do it with one hand was awesome.

DWTS Season 18, THE FINALE, Part 2 – Let’s Recap Tonight’s Show (Spoilers)

Repeat of rules from last night/last week: Once again, due to heavy traffic, we have to institute a few ground rules for tonight show. Most of these are good rules ALL OF THE TIME, and are basic netiquette.

  1. DO NOT hit refresh every few seconds – in fact, do not hit refresh every five minutes! Read, comment if you like, then walk away from the computer for five to ten minutes. I know this is hard, but it will prevent others from losing their minds trying to read and/or update the site.
  2. DO NOT use the comment section like it’s twitter – it’s not twitter. Make an actual comment with context of who you’re talking about, who you’re talking to (if it applies), etc. Context, and more than one line. If you break this rule more than one time, I start deleting. If you do it a couple times, you’ll find yourself on moderation. Ā Perhaps for life. šŸ™‚ Ā Keep in mind that if you can’t follow this rule, I can make you follow it.
  3. Try very hard to keep the ugly to a minimum. Think before you post. If you’ve been called out previously on this blog for your behavior, this will be extra important because there’s only so much I will tolerate. I’m not talking about differing opinions, I’m talking about nasty. If I get the sense that you are purposely trolling Ā (look it up if you’re not sure), I will just block you. No warning other than this one.

Again, we’ve turned on the Comment Moderation feature for the entire site. That way, in the event of an unexpected elimination, we can week out any trouble makers that much quicker. šŸ˜‰

So, if you’re in rehab from the drinking during last night’s show, raise your hand. šŸ˜€ Read more..

Dancing with the Stars Season 18, The Finale – Dancing by the Numbers!

Sorry…I just thought the above picture was gorgeous.

Note: As of 1 pm Eastern time, James was KILLING it in the encore votes with nearly double the tweets of Meryl. Amy was in third with Candace in last place. I suspect that, in the interest of keeping this the “Meryl and Maks show” that James won’t be the one redoing his freestyle. @DWTSGossip also says that it’s open to the “remaining couples” – when the “remaining” is counted, I don’t know. I do know that I would rather see James over Meryl, but I won’t hold my breath. šŸ™‚

Well, I called it after Candaceā€™s freestyle ā€“ massive underscore because she was going through to Tuesday and they have to make sure she doesnā€™t actually win. And when you see the math you will see they gave it the ole college try.

Of course there is another dance tomorrow night. It can go one of two ways between Meryl and Amy. They will give them both either 27ā€™s or 30ā€™s and let the audience decide. They might even put Amy a point ahead to tie the score.  I expect they might even put Candace up there too, because theyā€™ve created such a margin already it may not matter. If they are really afraid Meryl might not win, I would expect them to underscore Amy relative to Meryl UNLESS Amy just kills it and they canā€™t underscore without being obvious. Kinda like Len did tonight. :::rolls eyes:::

Anyway, hereā€™s where we stand after two dances.

DWTS 18 Week 10 Table 1

Totally not surprised that they pretty much ranked them, and really Meryl and Maks fans shouldnā€™t get too comfortable ā€“ Zendaya was ahead by a point too.  šŸ˜‰

DWTS 18 Week 10 Table 2

As you can see from the table above, going into voting Candace needs a TON of votes just to get past Amy. This bums me out because if Amy isnā€™t going to win, I donā€™t want her standing there when Maks and his family create some outrageous display leaving Meryl in the dust. Of course, now that I think about it, I really don’t want Candace and Mark standing there either, with her kids watching. Prove me wrong, Fam ā€“ show some class.

Right now, for Candace to WIN, she needs both of the following:

  • Candace needs 47,100 more votes per million votes cast than Amy, AND;
  • Candace needs 53,000 more votes per million votes cast than Meryl.

This is not unheard of, although that’s close to the record.  Bigger margins have been beatenā€¦just never in the finale. Itā€™s unlikely to happen now.

As for Amy, what does she need to do to win?  Both of the following:

  • Amy needs for Candace to NOT get the 47,100 more votes per million votes cast than her, AND;
  • Amy needs 5,900 more votes per million votes cast than Meryl.

As I said earlier, this is totally doable. Will it happen? Iā€™m thinking probably not, mainly due to the tongue baths Meryl has gotten all season, in addition to a pretty massive fanbase, especially compared to Amy. Meryl is a gold medal winning ICE DANCER fresh off the most recent Olympics. Amy is a snowboarder and they barely show her version of the Olympics on TV. Then there is the whole showmance angle ā€“ believe it or not some people actually fall for that crap. Later this summer when Maks is photographed with JLo all over the place there are going to be a whole lot of disillusioned fangirls crying in their Diet Pepsi and cursing Maks.

Now, what happens when they add another set of points tomorrow? Well, odds are, nothing changes too much. Iā€™m going to take a stab at it ā€“ but I swear the judges read this blog (just like Conrad does) and do the opposite of what I guess.   I would bet, since they took great pains to underscore Candace that that trend will continue. Hereā€™s my first scenario:

DWTS 18 Week 10 Table 3

And scores like those above lead to the following:

DWTS 18 Week 10 Table 4

As you can see, the margins decreased only slightly. Candace still has a lot of ground to make up. Amy has a bit less. But if they REALLY want Meryl to win and are afraid of Amy, they could rank them more significantly tomorrow. If Amy has even the tiniest mistake and Meryl doesnā€™t, we could see something like this:

DWTS 18 Week 10 Table 5

Which would lead to the following:

DWTS 18 Week 10 Table 6

This scenario puts Meryl way out in front and, considering that when I was voting I kept getting a Meryl and Maks video, I donā€™t find it to be too unlikely. Itā€™s kinda ridiculous. I donā€™t think the producers care who wins, as much as they have preferences as to who will make the finale for a variety of reasons. The judges on the other hand, may have an interest in the ā€œbest dancerā€ winning. BUT at the same time, they donā€™t want to be seen as assholes or as people who are tilting it one way or the other at this stage of the game. IF Amy and Meryl perform comparable dances like they did last night, I expect scenario one to be pretty likely. Like I said, they may even give Candace a 27. Most seasons, as I recall (and I really have to research it) they hesitate to take the decision out of the voterā€™s hands completely. I think that trend will continue.

At the end of the day, I expect that Maks will finally get his desperately desired and coveted MBT, but casual viewers years from now will remember when Derek Hough took that Amy Purdy gurl to the finale and she danced beautifully despite some disability which they canā€™t quite remember ā€“ because she was just that good.  And Candaceā€™s kids will remember when their mom made the finale of Dancing with the Stars and how she was tough as nails and danced under extreme pressure. Derek gets nominated for another Emmy and Mark has great success at his music. Everybody wins.
