PureDWTS Season 18 Week 1 Guest Poem: “The Shamrock Shake”

Lois is back with another one of her fun poems. This time she writes a poem for the premiere of Dancing With The Stars Season 18. Good job, Lois!

SEASON 18 OPENS WITH A QUAKE AND MORE SHAKE-UPS THAN:

THE SHAMROCK SHAKE!

Los Angeles was shaken by a St Patrick’s Day earthquake
Season 18 has more shake-ups than THE SHAMROCK SHAKE

THE SHAMROCK SHAKE, shaken and stirred by the pros
A dancing extravaganza full of sexy, spiffy, shining glows

A new band graced the stage, a new band director Ray Chew
Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews a new co-host point of view

The skybox returned, the judge’s table back where it belongs
Carrie Ann, Bruno and Len ready to discern rights from wrongs

The time came we waited, waited months so impatiently for
The new cast of Season 18 was finally introduced on the floor

Their nerves were shaking, their adrenalin pumping for sure
Standing in their line of glory, awaiting their chance to score

NeNe and Tony danced a Cha-Cha with soul, fringe, and sass
Danica and Val danced a Foxtrot with precision and with class

James and Peta danced a Foxtrot fluid, zesty, and full of pizzazz
Cody and Witney Cha-Cha exploding with flashy razz-ma-tazz

Drew, Cheryl Foxtrot shook up THE SHAMROCK SHAKE in green
Amy, Derek Cha-Cha created an inspirational, sensational scene

Meryl welcomes Max with a Cha-Cha full of spirit, full of speed
Sharna and Charlie’s Contemporary a lift extravaganza indeed

Candace, Mark’s Contemporary had floor mirror images so fine
Sean and Karina’s Contemporary had serious flair and fine line

Billy Dee, Emma dusted off the Star Wars Theme for Cha-Cha
Diana and Henry dove into a Foxtrot to many an ooh and aah

We welcome the shaken and stirred, THE SHAMROCK SHAKE
We lift our pints of Irish brew to the show the icing on ABC cake!

Written By Lois A Troutman, March 19, 2014

THE SHOW SHAKEN AND STIRRED, THE SHAMROCK SHAKE!

Afterbuzz And Gleb Savchenko Review DWTS Season 18 Week 1 (Video)

Below is Kristyn Burtt and the Afterbuzz team with their first critique of the new season of Dancing With The Stars. Gleb Savchenko joins them to review the night (aww, it’s so good to see him again!!) as well. I was in agreement with most everything until Suri commented on how she could have done without Drew’s performance. Really, Suri? Wow, he made me totally smile. Anna gets a little critical of Charlie’s steps too. Anyway, listen through and see if you agree with them. Also note that Gleb talks all about his new underwear line at the end as well as an upcoming party. *Can’t wait for some coverage of that. 😀 Ok, here you go…

DWTS 18 Carrie Ann Inaba Blog, More Interviews, Derek And Julianne Hough Tour Promo

Carrie Ann Inaba has written a new blog for Dancing With The Stars Week One at Parade.com. She write of all the changes and the dances. Below is a take for how she felt about Amy and Derek, Candace and Mark, and Sharna and Charlie. Check out the mention on Julianne Hough too.

Okay, now let’s get into the performances. There’s one I have to start off right away with and that is the performance by Amy Purdy and Derek Hough. I do not understand how she is able to move the way she did. I apologize for my shock last night, but I was actually shaking for about five minutes after her performance as well. To witness her dancing without knowing her unique situation was pleasure enough–she is a bright light and she is really effervescent when she performs. There is a special joy that comes out of her pores as she performs. But, then to know of her special abilities and to watch her dance, it’s really spectacular and mind-boggling. She did something I did not know was possible and she has opened my mind even more and I appreciate that. I think she opened all our minds and expanded the possibilities we all see for ourselves. I’m looking forward to next week’s performance for sure.

I thought the biggest surprise after Amy was Candace Cameron-Bure. She danced as if she had trained with my generation of dancers. Back in my day of dancing the women were quite strong and powerful in their legs and sensual in movement. She had that earthy quality to her movement, which is not easily learned. I was impressed. Mark Ballas provided some great choreography as well. I thought the movements were truly beautiful and flowed with power and grace and emotion.

Next, we must discuss Charlie White and Sharna Burgess. WOW! Okay, he’s a beautiful performer, so soft and tender while being strong. I am enjoying the almost reversal of roles with this partnership. She is the fire and he is the water, the Yin and Yang. After he danced, Julianne Hough who was sitting to my right and I looked at each other and both our mouths were agape in awe; it was funny.

More at Parade.com.

And speaking of Julianne….in case you haven’t heard yet, she and Derek announced that they will be touring this summer. You can read all about it at Pure Derek Hough including how you can obtain tickets which went on sale today. Also, check out this new promo for it…. Dies

DWTS Season 18, Week 1 – Let’s Recap Tonight’s Show! (Spoilers)

Well, as I said on twitter, if I wanted to see non-DWTS professional dancers, I would watch SYTYCD. Come on – last season’s opener was so fantastic, this one was just a FAIL on all accounts.

NeNe as surprising entertaining!  And the bit with James and Peta was entertaining – and he surprised me with his dancing.  But, the thing to remember is that they’ve had two weeks on this first dance – only the ringers will be really able to sustain that level in weeks 2 and 3, I think.

Danica may be a super ringer, but she’s also super annoying, but in a different way from her partner. 😀

Well…Billy Dee is older. This is the season they go harsh out of the gate??

I liked how they didn’t ignore Derek’s role in Meryl and charlie’s recent past. In Fact, Erin showed she’s not going to go too easy on Maks 🙂 But they were as fabulous as they were expected to be. Now I’m curious for Charlie.

Candace is also fantastic, and I liked Mark’s choreography. But his hair is out-of-control ridiculous. 🙂 Candace has to be careful to not get too annoying with the religious stuff.

Jaysus, Maks and Val have massive ringers and I’m seeing shit from their fans about Amy on twitter. Apparently, giving Amy to Derek and Meryl to Maks means they favor Derek and are rigging it in his favor.  Yeah, it sounds extremely stupid to me too. 🙂

I don’t think Charlie was that much better than Meryl, although I think he’s cute as hell. 🙂

I also love that Cheryl’s “OldManProblems” was trending on twitter. 🙂

All in all, I’m extremely disappointed in the opening number, but the show overall was very good. I’d like to see Candice outlast Danica.  I do think the judges were scoring a bit to make sure that those good dancers or great stories outlast potential voting powerhouses like Billy Dee. But that’s nothing new for this show.

DWTS Season 18, Week 1: Who’s Dancing What…and When??

I can’t believe Season 18 is here – seems like 17 just ended, to be honest. But only because I’ve been working my fingers to the bone. 🙂  And now I’m sick, to top it all off.

Anyway. Let’s see…what do we know so far? That Maks loves Meryl and he calls her “Princess”. For real – not condescendingly, but genuinely. We heard it through the grapevine. 😉  It appears they are getting along very well – he is pleased that she’s hard working and she seems to respond well to his style of teaching. What we also know is that both Meryl and Charlie’s routines are looking REALLY GOOD – but I guess none of you are shocked by that, are ya??

We heard one other thing but I’ll save that for another time. Ahem. Nothing for you all to worry about.  I’ll let Courtney share that one when she feels like it. 😀

So, who’s dancing what? Well, since I’ve been getting killed at work and have managed to get sick, I’m going by Wiki and by DWTSGossip on the dances – I haven’t been able to keep up and Vogue is already doing so much for me that I didn’t want to bug her with this too.  🙂 The order shown below is my GUESS and until you see a dance order and phone number near the names, it’s not official. Spots 6 and 7 are likely the top of the 9 o’clock hour and is a good spot. Least good spot? Historically it’s been 3rd and 2nd – I believe in that order. Of course, there is no real pimp spot anymore since they end every show except the first one with an elimination. But it’s still the best place to be, IMO. Until we get past the halfway point in the season, these things seem to be true. Once we get past the halfway point, the order doesn’t really matter as much.

ETA: I was off by a bit with James. He gave his voting number and TYPICALLY this matches the dance order. Not always. Sometimes they switch people around on Monday for one reason or another. I’m leaving my guess number in there just to see how I do. 🙂

ETA2: As you can see, I’m sucking a bit at my first guess of the season. 🙂

ETA3: Hey, I was really close on Candace!!

ETA4: Just a reminder – every season except the last one, the phone number has been a sign of the dance order on the first night. So, while it’s likely that these are the dance numbers in addition to the phone numbers, it’s entirely possible it could get screwed up between now and tomorrow night. Think muppets. 🙂

ETA5: So if Meryl is really 6th…who is going last? Charlie? Cheryl straight up said that she and Drew are dancing 9th, so there’s that.

ETA6: Court hopping in to update Amy & Derek and Billy & Emma’s voting #s/positions.  Should be interesting to see who gets the pimp spot – at this point, I’m leaning towards Charlie & Sharna.  Also looks like the first hour has been loaded up with most of the “weaker” couples – the second hour looks to be pretty competitive. By the way, Happy Saint Patty’s Day and Happy DWTS Premiere Day, errebody 🙂

ETA7: Heidi here with Charlie’s dance number. Seems I had Charlie and Meryl pretty much reversed in my guesses. I guess Charlie beats Maks. LOL.

ETA8: List is complete as Cody’s mom tweets his voting #.  I would assume that Candace & Mark are dancing 7th, as that’s the last spot left.

5. NeNe And Tony – Cha Cha Cha
Dancing 1st (this makes more sense, as they always seem to lead with a Cha cha. Pun intended :-))

12. Meryl and Maks – Cha Cha Cha
Dancing 6th
1-800-868-3406

2. Candace and Mark – Contemporary
Dancing 7th (process of elimination)
1-800-868-3407

1. Cody and Witney – Cha Cha Cha
Dancing 8th
1-800-868-3408

6. Drew and Cheryl – Foxtrot

ETA: a few photos. One is from Derek’s publicist, so I’m thinking that’s Derek and Amy. The other is Cody and Whitney.

Counting Down To DWTS18 Premiere, Media Updates (Pics, Video, And More)

Two More Days until Dancing With The Stars and counting. You ready? In a few updates….if you head to the Daily Mail, you can view some of the cast arriving for rehearsals yesterday!! They look in fine form and ready to go. I like Sharna’s furry boots. I hope she saves them for when and if she comes to Wyoming again. She may need them if it’s anything like the last time! Snow shovel

Danica McKeller has also written a short blog at her official site talking of what rehearsals have been like so far. Below is a little take….

It’s been awesome – really hard work but fun. It’s a little strange to have cameras with us the whole time, but I’m getting used to it. 🙂 And after all this rehearsing, I am so sore! I actually took an ice bath yesterday, which really helped (not sure I recommend it unless necessary because, um, BRRR!). Apparently athletes do this all the time – more power to ’em, haha.

Also, Steve Cochran of WGN Radio interviewed Diana Nyad. She talks about her upcoming dance on “Dancing With the Stars”. She says the Fox trot is challenging and dancing is harder to learn than she thought. She also praises the pros for the “great athletes” that they are. I love what she says about Henry’s “strength and beauty” when he moves.

Lastly, don’t miss heading over to Pure Derek Hough for some updates with Amy Purdy and Derek Hough. Derek has written a new Dancing With The Stars blog. Also, Derek is helping with a Nike show tonight and Pure Derek Hough has some rehearsal coverage. For a sneak peek, below is a video Derek posted last night. Is this not hot?!!!

Ok, that is all for now. Vogue over and out! 😉 x
