PureDWTS Season 29, Week 3 – Power Rankings

What can I say about Disney night that I haven’t already said in season 28, season 27, season 25, etc.? Not much. It’s the same 2-hour long Disney commercial that it has always been, with dances (usually poorly) shoehorned to fit (overused) songs, and costumes that feel like plagiarized essays – “yeah, you can copy mine from last season, but change a few things so it’s not so obvious.” That much I kind of expected – but I’m also dealing with the added complication this season of still having TOO. DAMN. MANY. COUPLES. It’s enough of a mental load to remember them all at the end of the night, and on top of that, we’re still getting really truncated dances – which is beneficial to some (marginal dancers like Chrishell) while detrimental to others (decent dancers like Skai, who seems to take a few bars to really hit a stride). With 13 couples remaining, next week will basically feel like a regular premiere night, and we’re already in week 4. We’re gonna have to start trimming some fat (and quickly) if we want to get whittled down to a 4-couple finale before Thanksgiving.

Tyrant was still up to her usual “look at meeeeee!” claptrap with her Minnie Mouse ballgown and absurdly long wig, but dare I say she may have dialed things back a just teensy bit this week? At the very least, the judges seemed to get more time to critique, while we seemingly only had to endure one dumb Tyrant question posed to each couple instead of multiple, increasingly painful ones that the celebs struggled to answer eloquently (or diplomatically). Don’t get it twisted – this show is still much harder to endure than necessary, owing to Tyrant’s presence (and Bergeron’s absence); but this week felt fractionally less painful.  Think someone pulled rank and told her to pipe down after last week’s sh*tshow?

So “that b***h Carole Baskin” got sent packing this week, and I hope that means I don’t have to hear any more bitching about how upset some of you were that “Derek saved her!” last week. You guys do realize the judges collude on who to save/ditch, right? So even though it appeared that Derek “got the deciding vote”, the three of them had already decided who was staying and who was going, and it was just a matter of what order they revealed their votes in to maximize suspense. And Carole had to have more than one vote to stay, yet nobody seemed as upset with Carrie Ann as they were with Derek.  My god, I worry about the intelligence quotient of the voting public these days *facepalm*. Anywho, it was her time to go – and I think that’s why they handed her samba as her style this week to ensure it, as nearly no one nails that dance and even the good ones usually just barely flirt with proper technique.  Carole basically tiptoed carefully through her dance – no bounce, not much rhythm, but I will credit her with generally keeping in step with Pasha. And I think Carole may have been saved from complete embarassment when Tyrant hit her with this gem of a question: “So how does Pasha compare with the cats?” That’s like someone asking me how Mama Spence compares to the spreadsheets I use to make budgets at my 9-5. I dunno – I worry about both of them making dollars and sense? Da fuq. Is anyone rehearsing these questions with Tyrant before the show, or is she just improvising them on the fly???

PureDWTS Season 28: New EP Andrew Llinares Talks Live Voting & Disney Night at the D23 Expo

So I’m not sure how exactly this is supposed to help prevent a repeat of Bones, but apparently all the voting is going to be live this year, per EP Andrew Llinares at the D23 Expo earlier today:

“I think, first of all, we’ve been off-air now for a year, so we want to make this season really, really special,” he hinted during the panel, which was moderated by Ginger Zee and featured host Tom Bergeron and former Mirrorball champions Rashad Jennings and Jordan Fisher. “Bigger, more exciting, and more fun than it’s ever been, which is hard.”

“One thing we are going to do, we’re going to introduce live voting throughout the season, which is something we haven’t done before,” he continued. “You’ll see a show, so you might see the Disney show, and then you’ll see the result at the end of that show, based on what happened that night. So, we get the immediacy of the results.”

Within seconds of his reveal, one fan in the crowd yelled out “West Coast!,” which prompted Bergeron to ask Llinares how the live voting element will affect viewers in the Pacific time zone.

“The West Coast can still vote, but it will be voting when the show goes on for the first time,” Llinares clarified. “What we love about it is, if someone comes and does a great dance that night, but say they didn’t have a great dance the week before, they can come back, they can redeem themselves… We’re voting based on these dances that actual night.”

Gee…there’s no possible way this could go wrong! Strong sarcasm there – as we’ve seen every other time they’ve attempted a live vote, it seems like 1 in 3 people can’t seem to get it to work properly for them, voting crashes about 30% of the time, and as a heckler from the crowd pointed out, it kind of screws over anyone that doesn’t live in the eastern time zone. Sure, they can still vote – but they’re kinda voting blind, since the show won’t air for at least another hour or two for them. I could see this disadvantaging some contestants while helping others – someone like Nashville-based Lauren Alaina, whose fanbase fits pretty nicely within the eastern time zone, will probably do well; but someone like Lamar Odom, who played for a sports team in California, will likely miss out on some votes from the Pacific time zone.

Llinares also revealed when we can expect Disney night:

Earlier in the panel, while discussing the unique tie-in DWTS has with Disney, Llinares also revealed the date of this season’s Disney night. The magic-themed episode will officially take place Monday, Oct. 14, and he said fans should expect plenty of “surprises.”

What’s the surprise, Llinares? Disney songs that people have actually heard of? Songs that actually fit the dances they’re meant to go with?

And then he gloated about knowing the pairings:

“Well, we wanted to do something a little different this year… We want to keep it fresh for you guys,” he explained. “No one knows their partner but they’ll find out within the next few days because they start training soon.”

“I know [the pairings],” he added, “but we’ll reveal it on premiere night. Everyone keeps coming up to me trying to trick me.”

Anyone else getting an awfully schmucky vibe from this guy? Discuss.

PureDWTS Season 27, Week 7: Who’s Dancing What, And When?

Country week. Um, yes. No. All it means is we’ll have yet another week of dances that don’t go with the assigned song.

Gee, who didn’t know that there were team dances next week, since IT WAS ANNOUNCED ON THE SHOW.  :::rolls eyes:::  Yes, it is a tad annoying when people come on to this site like they have some great intel we didn’t know…and it was something announced on the show. Also spare me the “I figure, based on instagram…”  unless you’re a long time poster here. Newbies doing that just make my eyes roll out of my head.

Anyway, the teams are….scroll……. (my money’s on Milo)

ETA4: Dance order update from Cheryl’s instagram…her team is last also.

ETA: Well, just to show you that they like to switch things up, it’s team captain Bobby Bones, ya’ll. And Team JoeDown, which I think someone mentioned in comments but I’m too lazy to go back and look. Entertainment Tonight clarified the team names for us…but I don’t think there is any other new information in there. You can click the link to see some photos though.

ETA2: Got one of the songs.  I heart Dolly. Don’t bungle this, Bones. -Court-

ETA3: All songs & dances up.  If John’s headed home come Monday, I think he’ll at least be going out on a high note with that song/dance. DeMarcus hit the jackpot with his song – everyone seems just bonkers over Chris Stapleton these days.  -Court-

Team HayNow (song: “9 to 5” by Dolly Parton)
Milo and Witney
Evanna and Keo
Bobby and Sharna
John and Emma

PureDWTS Season 27, Week 6: Who’s Dancing What, And When?

Looks like we’re getting a number from the Tour cast, the Jabawockees are going to be on….this is from the press release. I’ll spare you the very bad puns.  We also get tWitch!

Stephen “tWitch” Boss, will choreograph and dance to a delightfully eerie number based on a music video from Freeform’s “31 Nights of Halloween,” with his spectacular dancers, including his wife and former “Dancing with the Stars” pro, Allison Holker.

Moulin Rouge???  Um. Okay.  Ordinarily a tango to that would be awesome, but Halloween and JOE??  Lord save us. 🙂

ETA: Here’s the running order….and it’s total crap. :::rolls eyes:::

Milo & Witney – Contemporary  (Song: “Toxic” by 2WEI)
Dancing 1st
1-800-868-3410

John & Emma – Paso Doblé  (Song: “Main Titles” from “Beetlejuice,” by Ray Chew Live)

PureDWTS DWTS Juniors, Season 1 – Week 3 Live(ish) Blog!!!

It’s night 1 of the “two night Disney event” on Juniors & regular DWTS 😛 I’m expecting there to be some fairly heavy-handed marketing ploys on both shows, but at the very least, on Juniors the kids’ excitement about dancing to Disney songs is a bit more sincere and fun to see. Also crossing fingers that our technical difficulties here at Pure last week are behind us, as it didn’t seem like I got much conversation on the live blog thread last Sunday. Womp womp womp. Song and dance list here, spoiler post here. If you want a recap/rundown of last week’s episode, week 2 live blog here and week 2 postmortem here.

Things to keep in mind headed into tonight’s show: this episode was taped on August 3rd, which was the first week where the kids had to learn (2) dances in basically three days (basic schedule this season was rehearse M-Tu-W, camera block Thur, tape Fri/Sat, mandatory law-required day off on Sun); we might start to see the signs of fatigue a bit more tonight. In light of last week’s semi-shocking elim, keep in mind that it may not necessarily be the lowest-scoring couple headed home…it may be more likely to be a decent scoring couple that maybe just didn’t “pop” so much. Oh, also – Kim Kardashian is apparently on tonight’s episode, to *snicker* give Sophia & Jake tips on their performance.  Oh, that’s rich…coming from the woman who went home in week 3 of her season (after a very underwhelming performance) and was also once kicked offstage at a Prince concert for not dancing. Can’t wait to see what kind of wisdom she has to impart on the kids 😛

Kids look so darn cute in their costumes 🙂 Alana looks very pretty and mature in her Belle costume. Read more..

PureDWTS Season 27, Week 5: Who’s Dancing What, And When?

Disney Night. :::sigh:::  Who will likely do well?? Alexis, Milo, Evanna are the three who I can see really doing well with their dances and corresponding themes. DeMarcus likely will, but a charleston could be interesting. Will they continue to lowball the hell out of him?  JP…question is, can Cheryl finally make him happen??  Bobby will be interesting to watch. Can he harness all that energy into a beautiful waltz??

ETA: Updated with running order.  Right off the bat, good to see Milo closing the show – I think that’s a good sign for him. Juan Pablo going 2nd is concerning – especially since he went first last week and was a bit of a non-event. Joe likely dancing at the top of the 2nd hour makes me think he’s probably not headed home. -Court-

Alexis & Alan – Foxtrot  (Song: “Just Around the Riverbend” from Pocahontas)
1-800-868-3401
Dancing 1st

Juan Pablo & Cheryl – V. Waltz  (Song: “Gaston” from Beauty and the Beast)
1-800-868-3408
Dancing 2nd

DeMarcus & Lindsay –  Charleston  (Song: “A Star is Born” from Hercules)
1-800-868-3404
Dancing 3rd

Evanna & Keo –  Jazz (Song: “When Will My Life Begin” from Tangled)
1-800-868-3405
Dancing 4th

Joe & Jenna – Jive  (Song: “Zero” from Ralph Breaks the Internet)
1-800-868-3406
Dancing 5th

Mary Lou & Sasha – Contemporary (Song: “Reflection” from Mulan)
1-800-868-3409
Dancing 6th

John & Emma – Quickstep  (Song: “I Wan’na Be Like You” from The Jungle Book (seriously?))
1-800-868-3407
Dancing 7th

Bobby & Sharna – Waltz  (Song: “Part of Your World” from “The Little Mermaid”)
1-800-868-3402
Dancing 8th

Milo & Witney –  Quickstep (Song: “Incredits 2” from Incredibles 2)
1-800-868-3410
Dancing 9th

PureDWTS DWTS Juniors, Season 1, Week 3 – Who’s Dancing What?

It’s Disney week on both Juniors & regular DWTS! Judging from pix I’ve seen from Juniors, looks like they might start utilizing the junior troupe in the dances a bit more this week. As always, go here for spoilers on who the high scorers were for Disney night.

Akash & Kamri (mentored by Witney) – jive (song: “Zero to Hero” from Hercules)

Ariana & Artyon (mentored by Brandon) – samba (song: “Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride” from Lilo & Stitch)

Alana & Tristan (mentored by Artem) – foxtrot (song: “Something There” from Beauty and The Beast)

Jason & Elliana (mentored by Emma) – foxtrot (song: “You’ve Got a Friend In Me” from Toy Story)

Kenzie & Sage (mentored by Gleb) – contemporary (song: “Colors of the Wind” from Pocahontas)

Mandla & Brightyn (mentored by Cheryl) – jazz (song: “Un Poco Loco” from Coco)

Miles & Rylee (mentored by Lindsay) – Charleston (song: “One Jump Ahead” from Aladdin)

Sky & JT (mentored by Alan) – contemporary (song: “How Far I’ll Go” from Moana)

Sophia & Jake (mentored by Sasha) – samba (song: “Poor Unfortunate Souls” from The Little Mermaid)

Thoughts: kinda pleased to see some new songs thrown into the mix – they don’t seem to be going with old standbys like “Friend Like Me” or “I Wanna Be Like You”.  I’m sure there’s going to be cries of “cultural appropriation!!!” for some of these, but given that these are kids and Disney kind of has a history of cultural appropriation, I’m willing to cut some slack…although I think using anything from Pocahontas is just cringe-y, regardless of how old the person dancing is. Miles & Rylee’s Charleston is probably going to SLAY, given that nobody choreographs a Charleston like Lindsay (bonus: I’m about 95% sure she & DeMarcus have a Charleston to “A Star is Born” from Hercules next week – so double-dose of #Linsanity Charlestons!).

PureDWTS DWTS Junior Season 1 – The “What To Look Forward To” Spoiler Thread **SPOILERS AHEAD**

So I was struggling with the whole spoiler situation, relative to DWTS Junior – since it’s being pre-taped, for the first time, we have spoilers that could potentially reveal the outcome of a show that’s not due to air for 2 more months…and I’m not really cool with that, since I want people to tune in and actually watch the show; plus I’m not really looking to get into any Reality Steve vs. The Bachelor-style legal brouhaha’s. So if you’re looking for who got eliminated – look elsewhere, I promise there are people on Twitter who are more than willing to share that info with you if you just know where to look. What we’re going to be sharing here is the good stuff – stuff you can look forward to watching once the show starts airing in October 🙂 What we share may vary week to week, based on what we hear from sources and people fortunate enough to attend the taping…I’m leaving this a bit open-ended, until I figure out the right format for it. I’ll update as I hear more, so stay tuned. Now if you’re just looking for pro/celeb/mentor/etc. spoilers, go here; if you are looking for an explanation of how scoring/voting will work, go here.  Be warned – spoiler-y stuff after the jump… Read more..
