DWTS Season 27, Week 8: Who’s Dancing What, And When?

And then there were…still too many.  Six people in the semi-final would normally mean a double elimination this week, but there was discussion they would go into the finale with five couples and whittle them down to three on night one, then those three would be up for the title on night two. Well, now there is no night two, so has the plan changed? Are we still going into the finale with five couples??

Anyway, per the press release:

The First Dance Is a Dedicated Dance to a Meaningful Person in the Celebrity’s Life

The Couples’ Second Dance Will Be Judges’ Choice to Help Determine Who Should Move on to Finale Night

The couples have been rehearsing day and night preparing to perform two stunning numbers. First, each celebrity will perform a dance style not yet danced, dedicated to a meaningful person in their life. The second is a special Judges’ Choice dance, where each couple will be challenged to perform a style of dance they previously danced, but this time with totally new music in this all-important Semi-Finals extravaganza. For the first dance, each couple will perform a waltz, salsa, contemporary or Argentine tango. For the Judges’ Choice dance, each will perform a jive, foxtrot, quick step, salsa or cha cha. The Dedicated Dance scores will be combined with the Judges’ Choice dance scores for a judges’ final tally.

Bobby & Sharna – Salsa (Song: “GDFR” by Flo Rida)
Judges Choice: Jive (Song: “Gimme Some Lovin’” by The Spencer Davis Group) (mentored by Len)

The Washington Post Discusses the DWTS Eliminations for Season 27

I guess I didn’t realize this was really noteworthy…and it seems the Washington Post author reads our blog.  🙂  Anyway, they mention a lot of the possible reasons that only women have been eliminated so far this season. All could be accurate – but adding to those theories, is my opinion that the lower total viewers equates to lower total voters. When that happens, the big fanbases (Bachelor Nation, Potter Nation (I hope)) have more power than they ordinarily would.  Anyway, I’ve put an excerpt below but click the link to read the whole article.

Season 27 of ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” has been airing for six weeks. And so far, only female contestants have been sent home.

First, comedian Nikki Glaser. Then Paralympic skier Danelle Umstead. Then actress Nancy McKeon. Then R&B singer Tinashe. Last week, Olympic gymnast Mary Lou Retton said goodbye.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
While Bachelor Nation might be burning up the DWTS phone lines, the show is skewed toward older viewers — which could explain the votes for Schneider, one of the stars of the 1980s comedy “The Dukes of Hazzard.” Ware, who started off strong, has that big Dallas Cowboys fandom. And athletes, especially football players, are known to go quite far on this show.
Bones has also been ranked consistently in the middle or the lower end of the scoreboard. But he hosts a radio show broadcast to millions every day and has a legion of fiercely loyal fans. He could also easily win the award for most improved dancer, and the show always loves an underdog.
Dancing with the Stars Season 27, Week SEVEN – LIVE BLOG!
Thanks to Monday night football, I’m watching on a stream tonight – one that could go out at any time. So…fingers crossed. 🙂
T-minus 15 minutes to Country night!!
Great. My stream has an out of sync audio…
Oh lord, I just saw where the showmance gets even worse tonight. There’s kissing involved. :::rolls eyes:::
Liking all the costumes so far, although I did look and Jenna’s and try to figure out what was going on there. 🙂
Is that five live performances?? Geez.
Tonight’s a double elimination – no surprise there. You knew one was coming, if you’ve been paying attention at all.
John up first! Dancing to “Thank God I’m a Country Boy”. He’s in TN…which is looking as lovely as usual. 🙂 He’s making me misty talking about his kids.
I think he’s doing a great job, he’s keeping up with the pros….or they’re doing a good job of marking him. Probably both. Emma keeps the choreo relatively simple, and he handles it very well. I like it! Read more..
PureDWTS Season 27, Week 6 – Power Rankings
Last night’s episode of Nightmare on Sesame Street was brought to you by the morbid/nonsensical theme and that “fake-like-you-broke their neck” move that everyone seemed to be doing.  Second week in a row I’m left feeling pretty “meh” on the whole – I think the kids on Juniors put on a far better Halloween show this week, and they taped theirs way back in August. Themes were a bit of a mess, and the only routines I felt knocked it out of the park were Milo & Witney’s contemporary and the pro teaser dance for the tour. Then again, I think there’s only two Halloween week routines in DWTS history that have really wowed me: Hinch & Jenna’s Suicide Squad Viennese waltz, and Frankie & Witney’s stalker-themed contemporary. No worries – not the last time you’ll hear me hold those two dances up for comparison in these rankings 😉
Seeing a lot of comments/concerns about the running order the past two weeks in particular, and I’ll say this: I think TPTB may have finally gotten hip to the fact that the viewers have totally figured out the patterns in running order, and can predict things pretty well based on that; thus, I think they’re scrambling things up a bit more this season, hence some pretty nonsensical running order positions. Funny how DeMarcus went from dancing last, middle of the show, and first (all the key positions) within the first few weeks of the show, but has gotten stuck in doom positions for the past two weeks; Milo also went from dancing in the doom spots the first few weeks, to either opening or closing the show the past two weeks. And I tend not to think their voting numbers have changed drastically in those times, so I doubt it’s necessarily and indicator of their success, and is more just TPTB throwing stuff against the wall to see what sticks.  Likewise, Alexis’ running order has been all over the place, too, and she still seems to end up in jeopardy every week. Long story short: I don’t think the running order means much this season. Read more..
PureDWTS Season 27, Week 7: Who’s Dancing What, And When?
Country week. Um, yes. No. All it means is we’ll have yet another week of dances that don’t go with the assigned song.
Gee, who didn’t know that there were team dances next week, since IT WAS ANNOUNCED ON THE SHOW.  :::rolls eyes:::  Yes, it is a tad annoying when people come on to this site like they have some great intel we didn’t know…and it was something announced on the show. Also spare me the “I figure, based on instagram…”  unless you’re a long time poster here. Newbies doing that just make my eyes roll out of my head.
Anyway, the teams are….scroll……. (my money’s on Milo)
ETA4: Dance order update from Cheryl’s instagram…her team is last also.
Juan Pablo & Cheryl – Charleston (song: “One Shot” by Hunter Hayes)
Evanna & Keo – rumba (song: “Every Little Thing” performed live by Carly Pearce)
1-800-868-3405
Alexis & Alan – samba (song: “Ladies in the ’90s” performed live by Lauren Alaina)
1-800-868-3401
Joe & Jenna – tango (song: “Burning Man” by Dierks Bentley feat. Brothers Osbourne)
Dancing last
1-800-868-3402
ETA: Well, just to show you that they like to switch things up, it’s team captain Bobby Bones, ya’ll. And Team JoeDown, which I think someone mentioned in comments but I’m too lazy to go back and look. Entertainment Tonight clarified the team names for us…but I don’t think there is any other new information in there. You can click the link to see some photos though.
ETA2: Got one of the songs.  I heart Dolly. Don’t bungle this, Bones. -Court-
ETA3: All songs & dances up.  If John’s headed home come Monday, I think he’ll at least be going out on a high note with that song/dance. DeMarcus hit the jackpot with his song – everyone seems just bonkers over Chris Stapleton these days.  -Court-
Team HayNow (song: “9 to 5” by Dolly Parton)
Milo and Witney
Evanna and Keo
Bobby and Sharna
John and Emma
Team Joe Down (song: “Country Girl” by Luke Bryan) Dancing Last
Dancing with the Stars Season 27, Week SIX – LIVE BLOG!
So, will they do a double tonight to make up for the lack of an elimination last week?? That would be a trick…or a treat, depending on who it is that goes home. 🙂
T-minus 15 minutes.
This is a pretty cute opening number, I must say. Very long though – wonder how many takes it took. 🙂
Going right into the show with Milo and Witney…he’s cute. Is Witney’s hair gray?   Looks like it in spots. Looks good though.
Funny story about ghost hunter shows.  Me and my sis watched a couple a couple christmases ago. We spent the next several days going “Did ya hear that??” every time we saw each other 🙂
Milo looks creepy. Wasn’t sure about the choreo at first, too frantic, but it improved after he broke her back.  All in all, an excellent dance. Read more..
PureDWTS Season 27, Week 6: Who’s Dancing What, And When?
Looks like we’re getting a number from the Tour cast, the Jabawockees are going to be on….this is from the press release. I’ll spare you the very bad puns.  We also get tWitch!
Stephen “tWitch” Boss, will choreograph and dance to a delightfully eerie number based on a music video from Freeform’s “31 Nights of Halloween,” with his spectacular dancers, including his wife and former “Dancing with the Stars” pro, Allison Holker.
Moulin Rouge???  Um. Okay.  Ordinarily a tango to that would be awesome, but Halloween and JOE??  Lord save us. 🙂
ETA: Here’s the running order….and it’s total crap. :::rolls eyes:::
Dancing 1st
PureDWTS Season 27, Week 5 – Power Rankings
Weird things happen when Disney comes to town. Wonky scoring, a fake-out jeopardy and almost-elimination…I guess we should unpack what all went down and see what can be inferred from it. Generally, I think the judges were out to give out as many points as they could reasonably get away with last night, to everyone except Joe; this accomplishes two things: it makes the voting margins very small (due to the larger number of total points), and also makes it harder for Joe to try and make up ground and potentially oust a better dancer. Given that we’re now on the hook for (2) double elims (and one of them is on night 1 of finale week), and we didn’t eliminate anyone this week, I’m thinking next week we cut (2) couples, when we’ve got the best odds of Joe at the very least falling into the bottom two.  He doesn’t have to be the lowest on the totem pole; if they can just get him second-lowest, they can flush him out.  As for the psych-out almost-elim – my little bird told me the couples were told by producers (after the fact, of course) that the two couples in jeopardy “were only picked for shock value, it wasn’t a ‘real’ jeopardy”. Be that as it may, I think that faux jeopardy will only have the effect of boosting votes for DeMarcus and Alexis – I think the former is doing fine, vote-wise, but I think the latter probably could use whatever boost they can give her.  I think it’s interesting that they went more for “shock value”, when they could have actually utilized this jeopardy to boost someone that maybe needed help – Mary Lou comes to mind, as I have yet to find any super-passionate Mary Lou voters (except maybe Bill – I know you’re reading this, bruh) and there seems to be a lot of viewers that tend to forget about her by the end of the night. Then again, with 5 weeks down and 4 to go, they’ve gotta start lining things up for their ideal finale…
…which brings  me to my next point: given that last night was the midpoint of the season, it’s time to take inventory of who I think is headed to the finale and who is probably not.  I’ve been told by several people that Carrie Ann apparently said in her Instagram live that (5) couples go to night 1 of the finale (meaning we get five freestyles) and then there’s a double elim at the end of the night, and only the final (3) dance on night 2 of the finale. So somewhere in weeks 6, 7, and 8, we’ve gotta shed (4) more couples…meaning there’s a double elim at some point BEFORE the finale, and my guess is that it’s next week.  My gut says they don’t let Joe anywhere near the finale, if they can help it – and Bobby’s probably not far behind him. Mary Lou just seems to be fading into the background, so I doubt she’s long for this show, either; I think the last cut is probably a toss-up between John and Juan Pablo – I think John’s actually connecting better with the audience, but I get the feeling TPTB are going to do whatever they can to ensure that the better dancer (Juan Pablo) makes it over the decent-dancing everyman. So that leaves us with Milo, DeMarcus, Alexis, Evanna, and either Juan Pablo or John headed to night 1 of the finale; of those, I think the final three SHOULD be DeMarcus, Milo, and Evanna. But given the sudden showmance angle with Alexis & Alan, and the fact that they seem to think Juan Pablo is the greatest thing since sliced bread, who knows what will happen.
Things I enjoyed from last night? Loved that they found ways to work in the junior pros and contestants, and that opener was the most unique one we’ve had in awhile – loved how may Disney Easter eggs they managed to throw in the background (loved Hayley trying to jam Cinderella’s slipper on Britt’s foot in the hallway 😛 ).  As far as I’m concerned, Jason Maybaum can cohost with Berge anytime – that kid is a riot 🙂 Read more..
