DWTS Season 12, Week 6 – Hines Ward Defends Carrie Ann Inaba’s Comments

Below is a take from a new interview with Hines at theLA Times. Like Kym in her new blog, he defends Carrie Ann’s comments where she said he looked like he was thinking about the dance instead of feeling it (I still think she was off for saying that). Hines also mentions about staying focused on dancing and not letting any football issues getting in the way currently. He also answers a question about Romeo and if he was offended on his “MVP” comment (I didn’t take Romeo’s comment too seriously. I thought it was all in fun, did you? Or did Romeo go too far?). More below and at the link.

Q: Carrie Ann said for the first time it looked like you were thinking about the dance instead of just feeling it. True?
I really don’t think so. I prepared for this dance just as hard as I have all the others and I didn’t feel as though I was thinking any differently about this one. I was comfortable with it and didn’t think I was overthinking anything but I guess Carrie Ann saw something from her perspective and I will take her comments to heart when I do my next dance.

Q: Does all the lockout news distract you during the week, or are you able to stay focused on the competition?
I really don’t think about the lockout situation at all. I am too busy during my week preparing for my next dance and setting my sights on the Mirror Ball trophy. So this show has not only been an amazing experience but it has also been a great distraction during this stressful off-season.

Q: Chelsea stepped up her game, and Romeo said he wants to be the real MVP of the show, which sounds like a playful jab at you. Do you feel like the gloves are off and it’s a competition now?
I have felt like this was a friendly competition from day one. I really like everybody who is competing but at the end of the day we all have one goal in mind and that’s to win this thing. Since there can only be one winner we all know that we have to give it our best week in and week out. But we all get along great so we can still keep our friendships even in the midst of the competition. Since we are coming down to the wire now we all are concerned about stepping it up and bringing our A game every week. And right now, it’s anybody’s game to win.

Oh, and here is a close-up of the detail on Kym’s dress this past week. Isn’t it gorgeous? More close-ups of the other dresses worn this past week at the Dancing With The Stars Make-up Facebook page.

DWTS 12, Week 7 – Nicki Minaj, James Blunt, Shirley Ballas, Val Chmerkovskiy & More On “Ballroom Greats Week”

The theme for week 7 is “Ballroom Greats”. Lots on tap!! The entertainment includes Nicki Minaj, James Blunt, Wayne Brady, and the Macy’s Stars of Dance. Former Ballroom Champions Shirley Ballas (Mark’s Mother) and Luca Baricchi will make special appearances to help teach the couples. Donnie Burns MBE (the most decorated Latin dancer of all time) will be a guest judge. Val Chmerkovskiy (Maks’ brother) and his professional partner, Daria Chesnokova, will dance on the Results show (see a new fun video of them dancing and Val talking with he and Maks’ Dad here.). More below and at ABC Medianet.

“Episode 1207” – “Dancing with the Stars” celebrates “Ballroom Greats” week, MONDAY, MAY 2 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET/PT), on The ABC Television Network. Serving as guest judge, alongside Carrie Ann, Len and Bruno, is Donnie Burns MBE, the most decorated Latin dancer of all time and head of the World Dance Council. Each couple, who will dance a style they have yet to perform, will have received a “master class” from one of ballroom’s best, either former Latin World Champion Shirley Ballas or Luca Baricchi, former Ballroom World Champ.

Monday is also the first time that the couples perform two dances, the second, the Team Cha Cha Competition. Captains Hines Ward and Chelsea Kane lead their teams, Kirstie Alley & Kendra Wilkinson and Ralph Macchio & Romeo, respectively, each to be scored as a group by the judges.

On TUESDAY, MAY 3 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET), the evening begins with “Dancing with the Stars: The Encore,” which will show highlights from the previous night’s performances. Then on “Dancing with the Stars the Results Show: Episode 1207A” (9:00-10:01 p.m., ET), another couple will be eliminated from the competition, and musical guests James Blunt and Nicki Minaj perform. James Blunt will sing “I’ll Be Your Man” and, in honor of “Ballroom Greats” week, Amateur U.S. Latin champions Val Chmerkovskiy and his partner, Daria Chesnokova, will dance. Nicki Minaj performs “Moment 4 Life” — Lacey Schwimmer, Chelsie Hightower, Kiki Nyemchek and Sonny Pederson dance.

This week’s “Macy’s Stars of Dance” is a special tribute to the Godfather of Soul, James Brown, in celebration of his birthday. The multitalented Wayne Brady stars in the number and is choreographed by creative directors Kevin and Marcel Wilson.

In the first “Spotlight Segment” of the season, the spotlight shines on 17-year-old ballerina Patricia Zhou. Patricia currently studies at the prestigious Kirov Academy of Ballet and has just been accepted at the Royal Ballet. In the weeks to come, “Spotlight Segments” will feature people whose lives have been changed by dance.

This is going to be fun. I can’t wait to see Val dance again! Who’s with me on this? 🙂

He says he and Karina have a lot to show yet and he hopes he can make it to the finale. Lots more below. (note: my boss thinks this couple will be the two to go home next. I hope not. I hope its Kendra and Louis still)

DWTS Season 12, Week 6 – Hines Ward And Kym Johnson Getting Ready To Tango and More

Kym writes that she thought her and Hines’ Waltz was “beautiful” this week in her new blog at OK Magazine. They would “love to get a 10”, but their goal “was to always stay as contenders and be in the top three”. She also writes that she didn’t think Hines was “thinking too much” like Carrie Ann said. I have to question that as well. Sometimes I don’t understand how Carrie Ann judges or scores? From the 3 judges, she annoys me the most. More below on this topic and how Kym and Hines are readying for their new dance (the Tango) and the Team Cha Cha too. I love these two!

Although Carrie Ann Inaba said she thought he was thinking too much last night, I didn’t see that at all. The story was: I left him, he was begging for me to come back — beforehand he told me his acting skills aren’t that great, so he was thinking, “I want you back,” in his head. He says his acting skills aren’t great, but I felt the emotion and I felt that he was really into the dance so I didn’t see that myself. I think he did an amazing job.

If we get through we’ll have the Tango next week, which I’m very excited about. I think that’ll be a good one for Hines. I’ll get to work on that tonight. If we get through we also have a team dance, the first time we all dance together as a team. Which is really good fun, so I’m looking forward to that as well. We’ll have six left after tonight, so three on each time and we all do a dance together, which is always really good fun.

From now on in, we do two dances a week, so the pressure starts to pick up. This is when the competition really starts.

This week, we’re going to the Race to Erase MS Ball. I’ll be walking in the parade, which will be really fun. We’re doing that on Friday. So we’ll still get a bit of time to have some fun. The show that I was in on Broadway is here at the moment at the Pantages Theater. It’s called Burn the Floor, so I’m going to take Hines to see that as well, a bit of research for him!

Dancing With The Stars 12 – Mark Ballas Can’t Remember When He Was This Excited

And his foot has never been this cold! 😯

Mark has a new blog up at USA Today. He gives us a hint of what’s to come of the team dance and he and Chelsea’s new dance coming up where they get to choose the music (uh oh, watch out!). More below. Be sure to read the link too if interested for he details what happened with his injury this past week as well. He’s been icing his foot and will continue to do so. Picture above from his twitter.

….I was thrilled with our scores this week. I feel like Team Kanenball is really hitting a groove. In fact, we’ve been scored first twice in the last three weeks, and came in second by only one point. We’ve been at the top of the leader board, and we have no plans to leave. Hopefully the judges and the fans feel the same way.

I’m looking forward to this week because we have two dances, one being a group dance. That’s means there will be additional stress on Chelsea to learn more choreography but we also have to work as a team and be at the mercy of our teammates. I can’t remember the last time I was this excited to dance to our song for the week. I can’t tell you what it is, but just know that I’m really pumped about it. As pro dancers and choreographers, we get to suggest music that we want to dance to and when our wish gets granted, it’s both exciting and inspiring. I can’t wait!

As you saw this week, I’m a very competitive person. Being able to pull out the competitive side in Chelsea has been a challenge, but she definitely stepped it up this week and showed that she wants to win. Tonight’s our first group rehearsal and in order to make it through all the grueling rehearsals this week on a lame ankle, I need to keep up with my icing schedule.

DWTS 12 – Derek Hough Remains A TV Draw

Did any of you watch Derek Hough on “Better With You” Monday night? This was one of the first things my Dad asked me last night when I called to see if he was ok after Cheryl and Chris’ elimination. He loved seeing Derek again and so did I. It filled a little “void” if not for one night for us Derek fans. Not only can the man dance, he can act. He’s a born natural. In case you missed Derek and the show, check out Pure Derek Hough as Heidi has the videos up. What’s more, with Derek’s appearance on the show and according to TV Line, “Better With You” increased their viewers this week by 220%!! Is that not amazing or what?!!!! GO DEREK!!! It’s obvious he’s a TV draw. If the ratings for Dancing With The Stars are down a little this Season, I’d say it’s because of Derek’s absense, would you? They better get him back next Season at any cost.

ABC bubble comedy Better With You made the most of its special Monday aprés-Dancing With the Stars showcase, holding onto 11.7 million of the reality hit’s audience. That’s a 37 percent larger crowd than Cougar Town netted a week ago in the same primo perch, while BWU‘s demo rating (2.6) was 13 percent higher.

Special thanks to Dee/Upclose22 for sending us this news. xxx

Dancing With The Stars 2011 – Saying Good-bye To Chris Jericho (Videos)

It seems every Season I am pleasantly surprised by the celebrity contestants they pick to do the show and how much I end up liking them and Chris Jericho was one of them. I, like many of you have expressed here and at twitter, am sorry to see him go. He took this dancing challenge seriously and with the same fierceness and intensity he did for the wrestling ring. But, most of all, he had such a genuine, fun-loving, light, and refreshing spirit that we all embraced. So, here’s to Chris Jericho!! Below are some videos of he and Cheryl talking about their journey on Jimmy Kimmel Live and Good Morning America. Such a class act with the loss and just thankful for the experience.
